I stayed here for 2 nights and it was lovely - bedroom was good, bed very comfy. Food was really nice. Staff that I met were lovely too

Stopped here mid-walk for a light lunch. I had a pint of refreshing IPA and the small plate spicy chicken wings which were amazing! My wife had a pint of Guinness and lamb koftas which were also excellent, both beautifully presented!

This is for anyone looking to work here. Don’t. I worked here for a bit and left after burning out. Never have I had a bad experience working anywhere else and I’ve always had a high work morale. The general manager has poisoned the work environment and the owners are covering up for her. The manager is a bully, and possibly a racist. When I started my job and I yet hadn’t met any members of the staff, the general manager started speaking down on each member one by one by name. As well I was screamed at by the manager in front of everyone for doing my job, she never said sorry, instead said that I was being rude (for doing my job). And that’s just one occasion of many. She as well constantly made me feel like an outsider and unwanted e.g. throwed parties and would invite everyone else but me. She was massively double faced and would act like your best friend in front of customers and turn around and talk bad behind your back or be rude to you once no customers where close. I was left crying in the bathroom several times by her. She would as well constantly remind you that she can sack you at anytime she wants. As well I was told to ”not make any friends” when I arrived. As a whole it just felt like the restaurant was and is been operated by a woman who didn’t have any knowledge or possibly education on how to manage staff and as well she had a bad temper and just frankly seemed like a terrible and sad person managing like she would be a bully in highschool throwing fits and tantrums. After leaving I tried contacting the owners who didn’t feel like taking accountability on the situation. All that I’m telling is just scraping the surface so I hope this helps anyone to not go and have a similar experience working here. The world has so much more places where to work where they actually appreciate their members of staff. Cheers!

Travelled down from Edinburgh and stayed here while attending a family wedding. Everything at The White Horse was excellent. The rooms were extremely comfortable, the decor was brilliant. The two breakfasts we had while staying there were excellent. The staff were very friendly, and Debbie especially went out of her way to help us. We would certainly go.back there again.

I've DJ'd a couple of Weddings at this beautiful venue and when I've arrived I've always seen a few plates of food being served, that have looked lovely! I always said to myself that I'll come back at some point to give the food a go (I live 2hrs away in Suffolk). With another Wedding today in Hitchin - I had the opportunity to pop in and I'm so pleased I did! To start I had the CRISPY JUMBO KOREAN FRIED WINGS which were really nice and packed with flavour. As a main I had the JOSPER CHARRED CORNISH LAMB BELLY which was absolutley incredible. I'm very fortunate to be able to eat some of the most incredible food in the industry I'm in but, this was another level and I highly recommend it! I've tucked myself away in the corner of the venue so I can focus on a few work projects before I need to leave and it's been lovely listening to the staff chatting, laughing and singing. I was going to say, if you're passing by then pop in but, to be honest.... It's absolutely worth the trip if you're coming from further afield. Even if i'm not back for work - I'll certainly be back with the family. Incredible Food - Incredible Service!

We went to steak.night. what a dissappintment. Steak was burnt to a crisp even though we asked for it medium to well. Unlimited chips means you get a few with your dinner. Hatte was great re, service but the guy with the beard was rude. Won't be going back anytime soon.

We had a wonderful Sunday lunch on Fathers’ Day. We were a party of 8 family .The food was all first class, the service attentive and friendly. None of could fault the whole experience. They didn’t rush us. We came at 1 PM and left just before 4. I was a bit nervous as we hadn’t been there since the revamp but I had absolutely nothing to worry about. Will go again!

Met up with friends for lunch on our way to Lowestoft. The staff were great as was the food we had, 2no doorstop sandwiches and 2no steak sandwiches; absolutely no complaints. Most impressed that when I booked, by email, I said that we were driving up from Poole area and could not guarantee the time we would arrive. Lady in the dining room had obviously read my email as she mentioned it when we went to sit down. We will definitely be going there again, when in the area. might even stay the night and explore the area.

I booked a stay here for Monday night through Click Travel. Imagine my surprise when I received an email on Sunday night with a combination for my room key and a friendly reminder that the hotel isn't open on Mondays. Somehow, this crucial detail was conveniently left out of the hotel's description. I contacted Click Travel to cancel the room, but despite their best efforts, the hotel's response was a resounding "no." interesting to get this email after my cancellation rights have expired My company generously gives me a £25 allowance for evening meals, which can be claimed back by the hotel from the booking credit card. I thought it was reasonable to ask if the hotel could leave some money in the room for a takeaway. Silly me! They bluntly refused, saying, "we don’t do things like that." Because being considerate is just too much to ask, right? I consoled myself with the thought that at least it would be nice and quiet since the pub would be closed. Wrong again! When I arrived, three men were sitting on a bench, drinking beer, and having a grand time. They watched me wander around looking for the entrance until one finally pointed it out with a grunt. Charming! The pub might argue they don’t control the information on Click Travel, but they still have a duty of care to their customers. How about putting it out there that you're closed on Mondays? Just a thought. And breakfast on Tuesday? Of course, they don’t serve breakfast on Tuesdays either. Because why would they want to do something as customer-friendly as that? This whole experience was a masterclass in disappointment and inconvenience.

Fantastic food when it finally arrived. Service was horrendous and painfully slow so I wouldn’t recommend a visit, especially with children. Starters were ordered incorrectly and then forgotten. In the 4 hours we were in the restaurant, no one checked if we wanted any drinks, cleared glasses and plates etc without us repeatedly prompting them. Apparently due to being busy but not all the tables were full so I would dread to think what the service is like when you are full. Alerted the manager that we were not happy with the service and still our table was not cleared and service charge was still applied to the bill! Such a shame as food is lovely but the service really lets the whole experience down.

The restaurant team at The White Horse were really warm and welcoming our party of 14(!) We'd pre-ordered our mains - a mix of roasts and grills - to give them a heads up and added some starters and desserts either side, and all of the food came through tasting great and in good time! Great portions, tasty food, thumbs up all around.

A charming character pub restaurant with a good basic menu of well cooked well presented meals by and a good range of beers, wines and spirits with hot beverages also available. Friendly and efficient staff. A well heated covered outside dining area compliments the cosy internal restaurant. Limited nearby parking. Advance booking advisable but not always necessary.

Came her for a work Xmas lunch. Food was great, especially the Jacobs ladder and the turkey. Cosy, clean and well staffed. Desperately needs public wifi though. Don't come here if you need a phone signal!🤳🏼

Lovely roast dinner!!! Excellent beef and lamb, cooked beautifully!!! The only thing i would say is order extra roast potatoes, as you only get 3x on the plate.

Steaks we're perfect. Stroganoff was dry and unbeatable. Took it home for our friend's dog. Nothing taken off our bill even though 2 meals uneatable

Went for a roast on August 27th with my family as we have just moved to the area and have heard good things. Had a fabulous time! Was greeted with open arms and got a nice bit of roast lamb. Had some lovely food but was super impressed with the staff. We were served by two lovely young brunette ladies who made us feel looked after and were super helpful as well as the lovely young man on the bar. Would definitely return due to the amazing service and food!

Good Sunday lunch and friendly, attentive staff.

Firstly, a big thank you to the kitchen for producing the meals in a timely manner. Everyone commented on the standard of the food and what an excellent choice we had, but I must mention the feedback on two items in particular, firstly the steaks were excellent and the other was for the Brownies – wow they were amazing!! The waiting staff were organised and attentive throughout the meal, and nothing was too much trouble. The private room was ideal for our party and having the doors open to the courtyard was perfect on a warm day and for the children to have a run around. Thank you all for making my father-in-law’s 90th Birthday meal one to remember for all the right reasons.

The shallot tart with goats cheese and chunky chips was superb. Dairy free but without any of the nice things removed. Well done to the Chef. We will definitely return soon. Wish more restaurants think further than just marking food unavailable to allergies etc. This ends up limited to a couple of dishes only.

Myself and my auntie decided to go for a birthday lunch as the pub is round the corner from where we live and we have never had lunch there before. To say i am disappointed with the service and food is an understatement. On walking in there were three staff members standing around who clearly saw us and didn't offer us a table so I had to ask to be seated (not a massive biggy). We sat down for five minutes and nobody gave us a menu so I just got one myself from the main desk (bear in mind there were only x4 other customers at this point). We ordered x2 chicken and bacon club sandwiches (£13 each) and this is what we got (see photo). The bread was untoasted which made it so soggy and wet from the contents - i am pretty sure a club sandwich should be toasted! And the whole thing just fell apart. On telling the waitress it was inedible, all i got was a very abrupt 'sorry and they will take it off the bill', they then walked off and left it in front of me. I am not one to moan if a restaurant is super busy and the service is a bit slack but it was empty. And how you can get a club sandwich wrong is just not on. In total we paid £22.55 for x1 club sandwich, a diet coke, a latte and x2 packets of crisps. Its really upsetting that this is local pub and they really don't seem to care about their customers. Safe to say i won't be going back.

I had a delicious lunch at The White Horse - I decided to order the Caesar salad, It was a really large portion and very nice! The pub has a nice country feel to it, there is an outside seating area and parking onsite. I will definitely go again and would highly recommend!

ordered the baked camebert to share and the crispy squid. Very tasty!! then we had 2 roast beef and 2 roast pork. service was quick (considering they were so busy) and food was delicious. we came here a couple of months ago for a roast and were not that impressed but glad we came back. We visited this pub for the second time today and had a great Sunday lunch with excellent service. I didn't notice until getting home that we were charged less as one of our party had asked for a smaller portion of pudding - only made a small difference to the bill but a nice touch.

We went for a midweek lunch and were not disappointed. Fabulous food and the portions are huge. Gorgeous restaurant and incredible service, friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We haven’t been here for a long time but were blown away by every aspect. Can’t wait to come back

Oh dear - the lovely staff and good atmosphere but food not good. Crispy Squid should be renamed soft rubbery squid as not one crisp was to be found. Two pieces of the small plate were simply inedible and had to be discreetly “discarded” Great beef though and was asked medium rare or well done, asked for medium rare and got well done… not a problem as the beef was lovely quality. Yorkshire was great in size and taste but cold. Roast Parsnips and broccoli were rock hard - and roast potatoes cooked but sadly soft and lacked colour and crisp of a “roast potato” Cauliflower cheese came in a shallow dish with burnt cheese top and very little creamy cheese sauce. Gravy scarce on the plate and no boat for extra came. On the plus side the beef and potatoes in what gravy there was - were very tasty and the beef good quality which means with more focus and effort this dinner could have been great.

Visited this venue last night for my birthday. Two very young servers who were pleasant enough. The burger I had was very dense and as dry as a bone not a drop of "juicyness" about it, and the cheese could of been welded to it. Two others in our party also had the burger and theirs were also dense and dry. The chunky chips were nice. One granddaughter had the jerk burger which she said the sauce was extremely hot and her skinny chips were also covered in the sauce. Others had fish and chips which they said were fine.

We had a top class Sunday roast lunch at this lovely and beautifully decorated pub. Great produce well cooked and presented. Then at the weekend we celebrated our son's marriage at the White Horse. The food was excellent especially my aubergine parmesan starter, fish & chips, and so light cheesecake and raspberry sorbet. The evening was brilliantly organized by Kate and her team. We stayed the night in Room 3 which was imaginatively decorated in bold colours. Bed very comfortable and large. Excellent bathroom. And top class tea & coffee refreshments.

Wow, have just returned home from having the most delicious Sunday lunch. Went with a friend , both of us had a roast and by far the best roast dinner I've had locally. Fantastic service from the staff. All I can say is.... EXCELLENT

Although this is one of our locals in the area, we choose to come here on a regular basis and for special occasions. We have been coming here for years and never had a bad meal or bad service, in fact, we bring people here...

Fantastic pub, gorgeous rooms, all facilities excellent quality,and delicious food, but most of all the fantastic staff who went above and beyond to accommodate us, especially the wonderful lady on front of house. Highly recommended, will be staying here every time we visit our daughter

Very disappointed. 4 page menu, told pizzas were off, that was one page ! No fish n chips. Rest was very basic, chose rump which was good, so called chips poor. Staff pleasant.

Absolutely stunning old English pub with a modern contemporary feel. Hidden away in beautiful hertingfordbury it oozes sophistication and the menu, food and staff are all top tier. All of the food was cooked and prepared beautifully with decent sized portions.The decor is stunning and and the dining area is extremely bright and colourful. Highly recommended for any occasion so we will most definitely be back 😍

Mother’s Day lunch. Set menu, pre order no problem. Chicken wings undercooked - visiting blue blood. Roast beef - chewy and sinewy, couldn’t eat. Yorkshire pudding made with too many eggs as very eggy flavour! No cauliflower cheese! Dessert. Waffle over microwaved and hard underneath....

This is a lovely country pub/hotel. The bar is intimate. The restaurant is ambient with a good standard of food. They have now added pods in the garden which look like fun, hopefully we will try them soon.

Nice pub, food OK, very pretty pods but confused on hire fee? What does £60 hire fee cover? A freind of mine said hers was refunded... Ours wasn't.

We hired a dome for the night, it was great, very comfortable and even though we were outside we were not fogotten about. Great food also

I only popped in for a spot of lunch after a walk around Panshanger Park (which was very good). A very hospitable pub/restaurant, polite and quick service to the table. I will probably go back for a full meal experience, maybe including the outside bubbles.

Well what can I say usually I can say this place was OK, but The White Horse was 10 out of ten. Lovely rooms great food, meal of ribs was very good and the service was friendly and polite. But best of all it was not expensive. One of the places we shall visit again when we are back in the area. Any thanks.

Visited here as part of a group lunch. Was disappointed straight away as they had no pizzas available (a notable part of their menu), which several people had chosen prior to our visit.
