Great pub. Proper old fashioned boozer. Serves fantastic pub grub and delicious real ale.

Small, cosy traditional pub with good selection of ales and beer and a few well chosen wines. Traditional pub food and a small set of tables out the front. Not child friendly although this isn't that sort of venue. Great for a drink before walking around the green.

Had a choice of two pubs to stop in. Picked the best one by a country mile. Friendly locals

I had my first pint in this pub 52 years ago today! It has remained my favourite. A proper English pub! The absolute definition of what a pub should be. The current land lady is an absolute gem! The bars are both small but very welcoming with a good range of real ales served with excellent traditional pub food.

Small traditional pub, one small bar (which for bizarre reason most of customers use that door) makes it very uncomfortable. And a (Larger) bar that can accommodate with more comfort. Although certain types traverse from to exit via small bar to smoking area. Almost £5 a pint (Ale) though (jan 2024) No parking and difficult to park locally although this is location and not pubs fault. Dogs allowed.

We love this little traditional pub in Writtle. Unfortunately though they have stopped providing lunches, hasn't stopped us popping in occasionally for a good selection of ales and friendly service.

Best pub in Writtle! And at the moment doing a pizza and a pint for £10. Best pizza I've ever had much better than Domino's. You can also do takeaway too

Very small traditional English pub, didn't order food but only pizzas were available...

Pizzas on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday night which is absolutely delicious. The staff are lovely as well as the owner, they make you feel really welcome.

Fantastically cosy pub with nice range of real ales, expanded outdoor seating, and great service. I'm told the food is awesome, especially the traditional English breakfasts. Also an amazing atmosphere with the friendly locals on live music nights.

Gem of a pub, small but good selection of ales

Really lovely local pub. Great range of beers at great prices, lively and fun. Folk band playing when we were there, and when we missed the last bus, the landlord phoned around and found us a taxi. Looking forward to more visits whenever we are in the area.

Found the Wheatsheaf by accident, visiting from out of town and was drawn in by what looked like a nice boozer with an outdoor area. Quickly became apparent that this was a proper boozer with sensible processes in place for Covid, and far more importantly, great beer and good staff. I’m particular, Leah was an absolute legend and looked after us very well. Thoroughly enjoyable beers in a nice pub

Matt has done wonders since taking over and has really made the most of a difficult situation with covid 19 restrictions. Real ale quality is consistently high and the lunchtime food is good pub fayre at very decent prices. Glad to be back.

The whole environment is so friendly and welcoming. The locals are lovely, as are the staff. Would highly recommend for a casual drink, and the drinks are always fresh! I've never had a bad drink from here.

Classic traditional Writtle pub. You can normally find me wondering my way through on a Sunday afternoon after a good hike round the Essex County side. Almost enough room to swing a squirrel, but a catchup might be pushing it. Keep up the good work guys. 👍😎🍻

this is areal pub serving a great selection of real ales. it is recognised by camera for the quality of its beer. if you are looking for a an English pub this is the best. it attracts interesting people.
