I would usually give 5 stars as I always enjoy the food. The new menu is great and the ambience is usually fantastic however when I witnessed Nick scream at one of your bar staff last night who was simply completing my drinks order It ruined it for me, very unprofessional and totally unnecessary.

Menu had changed since we had looked on line, not as much choice and probably wouldn’t have gone if we had seen the new one. Asked the chef what was in the no meat chilli. Even when prompted as whether it was beans or a meat substitute could only say he would need to check the specification. Place is nicely decorated, staff pleasant but service slow. Had to ask someone to take our order after sitting with drinks for ages. Food ok, nothing special. Steaks were cooked well. Didn’t bother with desserts. Wouldn’t go again.

The Wheatsheaf is an absolute must, be it for food or drink. We came here with our parents for Sunday Dinner and i can say its the best we've ever had, and we do eat out a lot! Mark Sarah and the team complete the Wheatsheaf perfectly, very friendly and welcoming, and nothing is too much trouble. Piping hot fresh food and cooked to perfection. The meat is so tender along with the best roast potatoes ever! Little touches like the extra jug of gravy which we didn't ask for and the parsnip crisps to compliment the meal. Lovely girls who served us couldn't have had a better service. Will be a regular visit each week!

Got to say what a lovely outdoor area they have created at the Wheatsheaf. I love the way they have built an outside ordering point where you can just go and place your order, pay for it and then before you know it the drinks are there. This is a far better system than trying to flag a server down to take the initial order and then trying to pay for it which is what happens in the majority of other places if they don't have an app. The fact that the servers are just delivering Drinks and Food and not having to take orders or payments means the service is far faster and the ordering process is fair as far as servers not just servicing regulars or friends which does happen in other Venues.

Was very busy but guy called Mark found us soc distanced table. Ordered food and drink... took around 15mins as per other review however we got our drinks delivered in 5mins and despite being told food would be 45mins ours arrived in 30. Food good value and quality... I shared a pizza with side of chips and guys had steaks... Ordered more drinks...again took a while maybe 10mins which is to be expected when as busy but again no long wait to get them to table. Great atmosphere, the Scottish family that run it have put so much effort into gardens fabulous place to visit. This will be a regular spot for us and our friends.....well done the Wheatsheaf!!!

O dear dear, they certainly haven’t got this right. We don’t understand there system. Went for a a nice chill out drink and ended up being stressed out. Unfortunately won’t be returning for some time unless they change the system. Be prepared for a very long wait for your drink and food. You will have to queue at an open hatch outside to place your order expect about 15 mins queuing Then they give you a ticket, then about 30mins later you get your drink. Don’t understand why the bar staff just don’t take your order then bring you your drink..Simple! A pub just up the road was the complete opposite, extremely organised, they check you in straight away they take your order then within a few minutes it’s on your table Job Done!! Come on Wheatsheaf you have a good outside area use it well, change that silly system so people will want to return

Where to start! Came here on a recommendation and judging by reviews was expecting a really good experience. My partner ordered steak pie and I ordered the burger. No one was in the restaurant eating. I was given my burger and cut it on half to find raw mince all the way through it. I can understand sometimes people cook burgers medium or medium rare but this was raw!! I have it to the lady behind bar and she mumbled a sorry and took it into the kitchen. It then came out a few minutes later the same burger that I had cut in half with same bun!!! Burnt round the edges, chips cold as they were sat waiting whilst they recooked it. Unbelievable! You would have thought at least get a fresh burger bun and fresh chips. No one came over to see if it was ok or anything. Really poor customer service. We will not be returning. I hadn’t actually eaten anything off the plate so this picture shows you the portion size too. The first time I have ever not paid for a meal, we did pay for my partners though even though that was not much better. On a positive the refurb looks good! That’s about it!

This was our first visit since it transferred to new management in Feb 2019 and I have to say that I came away with a sense of confusion. We thought the regular '2 meals for GBP 10.00' would be operating on the Saturday (as advertised on this page) but were told that it was not and it was taken away from us. Instead we were guided to the midweek menu. But it was a Saturday and not midweek. We ordered 2 hotpots and were served what looked like 2 pies. Apparently, we should have known that as this particular item was prefixed with the same name as where they source their pies from (which, according to the poster in the dining room, is a butchers' based somewhere in Frodsham), this would likewise have a pastry crust. It simply tasted like a beef pie. Granted, it was full of beef, but there was hardly any of the vegetables and potatoes that give a hot pot it's distinctive taste. The pastry did not stand up well to being microwaved and there was very little gravy to complete that hot pot feel. The menu should have stated that it was actually a pie. Had I wanted a pie, I'd have ordered one off the pie menu. But I wanted a hot pot and was not at all convinced by what I got.

Despite having been shut for a short while while hiring a new chef, I can confirm that the food is as fantastic as it was the first time I visited! If you love great pies this is the place for you - but the menu and quality extends beyond the pies! It's now back open and fully operational with a good range menu, good prices and fantastic staff - I've never felt more welcome at a pub where I'm not a local in my life!

I assume you have to live locally to get accepted, bar staff serve you but that’s it and locals look at you like an alien! Don’t bother unless you want to look out of place and feel uncomfortable!

Approximately 6 weeks ago we went for Sunday lunch as usual only to be met firstly with hardly any choice of beer and we were lucky to be served Sunday lunch. On querying what was going on we were told by the staff that the pub had hit problems and it was to close the following day.

I’m a bit bemused about this place. It is certainly exceptionally good value, has a nice home cooked flavour to the food, was extremely busy - having a turnover of people with presumably only the lunch hour to spare, and everyone seemed to be pleased with their meals. Nor should I bother that there were only two gentlemen (with pony tails) around, because the service was still quick. There was the lack of drinks we requested, so perhaps the bar was a bit under stocked. The room was extremely clean, the atmosphere relaxed and cheerful, and it’s obviously popular, yet I don’t know how quickly I’ll return. (Chips were good though!)

Had a nice meal with my family today. I had a pork Sunday dinner. The pork was a bit fatty, and the portion was quite small, but I did ask for a small portion. I would recommend the burgers looked amazing, the staff are nice and hardworking, and it is a clean and well presented pub. Enjoyed a lot.

Have passed many times but never stopped. Outside and inside is non-fussy (a bit dated if I'm honest) but clean, however the food was traditional British pub food - well cooked and very tasty. The pie was lovely, full to the brim with steak. No gristle or fat on steak and both pastry and steak melted in your mouth. The apple pie was again homemade with melt in the mouth pastry and tasty apple filling (not slushy or bland). The host is a great guy, friendly and efficient. Wasn't very busy on the day we called in (weekday) but I hope it works out for him because he's got a gem there.

We were a large booking so I emailed Gin Alley to book a table. Danielle got back promptly and was very accommodating. Lovely venue for drinks - beers, Prosecco, cocktails. The place was busy with a good vibe. Bar staff were efficient, professional and friendly.

Stayed here for one night. The room was clean, comfy and tidy. We used the restaurant and the food was amazing. Great portions and good value for money. Drinks were also reasonably priced. Would recommend to anyone. We even had an amazing view of the sun setting. Thank you.

Very overpriced and under sized portions meant to be a cafe not a restaurant. 2.50 for a can of Fanta is ridiculous, had finished food when they brought missed item , chucked at us, no apology nothing, worst place in miles just about ripping off not providing quality or value

We had the so called £7 Sunday Lunch. it was told to us that the kitchen was short staffed. So accepted the wait for food but didn't appreciate the cold meals and poorly cooked meat with hard vegetables. Didn't complain at the time as didn't want to spoil the family meal further. Was horrified when the bill arrived and the cost of 'extras' became clear. Cola £6, wine £9.50. what with desserts the meal came to over £140 for 4 of us. OK if you were receiving fine dining but a so called £7 Sunday lunch - just ridiculous. Might have been a bad day but will not be revisiting.
