This place is a guilty pleasure and I really don’t want to write a review in fear of it becoming more popular and difficult to book. The food is of a very high quality, made from locally sourced produce. The food has a distinct Welsh theme which is outstanding. The menu, whilst small, has everything you would want. The staff are friendly, attentive and always delivers on your needs. Very highly recommended

The Welsh House is meant to be the "Go To" place in Neath. Top Food, Top Service etc but tonight the service was not were it should have been. I'm not sure who is managing the place, but we barely got served the whole night. The host kept checking in on us and taking our order if we wanted something as we'd not seen any waitress or waiter actually until we ordered dessert. Even with him stepping in, we had to ask for steak knives with the Chateaubriand we reserved (but they still had to check there was any left) On the plus side, food overall was very nice. Well presented etc. The macaroni cheese was a little bland and no salt or pepper on the tables. On top of this, there weren't any running taps in the Female Toilets. So no one was able to wash their hands. We saw other tables talking about this. Mens toilets were equally as confusing. One urinal had a bin bag over it, one other had Out Of Order nailed to the wall above it. Come on Welsh House!! We WANT you to do better. Genuinely, we want to love it there...but who's managing these things?? Sorry to say but, today, you were pretty disappointing overall.

Our second visit. It was slightly odd a year ago with stuff arriving in the wrong order (such as a main before a starter or side), but we decided to give it another go. There’s a warning on arrival about it being winter and not a full menu being available. Serving staff are friendly and helpful, as before. Don’t be fooled by the commercial pizza oven which would do a great job with fresh dough. The bases are obviously bought-in frozen, meaning the outside is crisp enough but the middle gets very wet, such that toppings slide off. As an Anglo-Italian, I’m embarrassed by the quality, I checked out the pizza area and there’s no dough or flour in sight! At least Prezzo has a traditional charcoal oven with fresh dough, as you can see it in action and I’m no fan of chain restaurants either.

I had a fantastic stay at The Welsh House! The highlight of my visit was the lovely breakfast—everything was fresh, delicious, and beautifully presented. A special shout-out to James, who served me with such warmth and professionalism. He was absolutely fab, making sure I had everything I needed and adding a friendly touch to the experience. The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, making it the perfect place to start my day. I would highly recommend The Welsh House to anyone looking for great food and excellent service!

Been here through minimal choice three times now in last two months and every time it’s been the same. Half decent food but the service is terrible due to either generally bad service or expecting one guy to greet people, seat them, take orders, make drinks, deliver food and settle bills. Absolutely ridiculous

We attended a Fawlty Towers dining experience. It was amazing. We were a bit confused where to go on entrance, but once the actors arrived, wow! Food was sensational, great atmosphere and the staff were fantastic. Please do more of this! This place would not have boon on our radar if this event wasn’t on.

Ordered 2 pizzas, one came incorrect, phoned Welsh House and they said ‘the chef has forgot to put the correct ingredients in’ informed I could drive to the restaurant and replace the pizza, not good enough.

Lovely roomy restaurant with good accessible facilities for wheelchairs. Excellent food. Very good service from James, who took particularly good care of my mother on the occasion of her 96th birthday.

Came across this lovely restaurant this evening. Was lucky enough to be seated as it was fairly busy already and there was parties arriving throughout our time there. The staff were friendly and swift with service and the food was beautifully cooked. I had a lovely Rump stake with a red wine sauce and a side of Garlic mushroom. Everything was presented well and I enjoyed it immensely. Beautifully decorated throughout and already recommend it to a work mate for a date night with his wife as I was sat looking at the menu. Will definitely come back again.

Superb sunday lunch yet again, had the sharing platter, loads of meat, lovely vegetables, the leek in sauce was outstanding, You wont leave here hungry, the quality of the food is exceptional, lovely staff and warm and cosy, Been coming here for sunday lunch for a few weeks now, and never fails to deliver quality,, Highly reccomended

Other food brought out but 2 meals short, no apology. The 2 meals brought 20mins later (not fresh or hot) after the first sitting finished and when pizzas eventually did arrive not cooked properly. When paying told discount given - no discount given for the disastrous meal/service only standard discount given to everyone. Certainly will not be visiting again or recommend to anyone. A complete shambles and not even busy. Food: 2/5 | Service: 1/5 | Atmosphere: 2/5

Food was lovely and Angel our server was great so patient and helpful. Bar staff were friendly and nothing was too much trouble! Will definately be returning 🙂

Lovely place to go for drinks or food . staff were very friendly and helpful and very accommodating. Wheelchair accessible . Meals presented nicely. Would recommend leg lamb dinner as meat was sliced ready and very tasty. Just ask for extra gravy.

Main meals and desserts were very good, so why the 3 stars? Two of us were served the wrong drinks, however mistakes sometimes happen and the young staff member was very apologetic. There was a large chip in one of the dinner plates....careless, but not the end of the world. However, what happened next shouldn`t happen in the hospitality industry. The mains were brought to the table, and one of us asked if the sauces were coming separately........asked in a respectful and matter-of-fact way. The staff member, a man in his 50s/60s, snapped back, "I`ve only got one pair of hands". If he did this to humiliate her in front of her friends and to spoil the vibe, he succeeded. Don`t know your name, but what were you thinking????

We were four friends who met up for Sunday Lunch, celebrating a retirement. It was really lovely and the atmosphere was really chilled, the staff were helpful, polite and the food was excellent, the dessert was to die for and we are planning to return for another meal with lovely surroundings.

Warm welcome and delicious coffee, many thanks to the lovely manager James. Menu looks great too but sadly we couldn’t stay for dinner!

I visited Welsh House in Neath last night, and I have to say, it was an outstanding experience! Despite the venue being busy, James did an incredible job managing everything with such professionalism and a friendly attitude. His hard work and attention to detail really stood out, making us feel well taken care of throughout our visit. The food was absolutely delicious—each dish was cooked to perfection, full of flavor, and beautifully presented. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and you could tell that the team takes great pride in providing excellent service. Highly recommend Welsh House for both the great food and exceptional service!

Shocking experience. Worst service I've ever known. Food average at best (when it finally arrived). Pre paid for everything as a group and left without having desserts as fed of of waiting. I think we'd have ended up having them for breakfast if we'd waited. Needless to say won't be rushing back

Awful from start to finish .Party of 7 booked for xmas yesterday evening .We booked out table for 7.30 .eventually got our food at 9.45...2 hrs 15 mins later..Even pre ordered food days before Tables were overbooked.All tables were waiting hours for food. One party walked out as couldn't wait any longer.Food arrived was OK ish nothing g special. We did have a discount for long wait .So short staffed a shocking experience spoilt our night and will never return

We hired the lower room for a charity event, staff couldn't have been more helpful. We needed to move furniture as well as bring tables and chairs down for the event, they helped us with everything. The event went really smoothly. Cocktails were delicious too ❤️ diolch

1st est 18:40, then changed a few times eventually arriving after 19:50 with pizzas arriving barely luke warm. Had to microwave to heat so crusts overdone and virtually inedible. Similar last week (currenlty restrictive mobility, hence weekly orders last 2 weeks) Extremely disappointing so definitely won't be reordering and will try elsewhere.

The service was really slow They served a vegetarian.. a stake and ale pie when they had ordered the feta and vegetable pie and they served the smallest fillet steak I have ever seen and want to charge us 32 quid But did reduce to 22 quid After all the other issues and the management didn't want to know made the waiters sort it so no apology when we payed

They never seem to get it quite right here, I really want to like the place as the food is ok if a little expensive and let’s face it there’s not a lot of choice of places to go in Neath but I always come away disappointed here!! The staff always seem disinterested and uninformed… ‘I’ve got all the gins’ and mentioning a couple of colours is not good! There’s no friendliness when taking the order or dropping food off, it’s a bit like a ‘caff’. It’s also very noisy, they turned the music up at one point when we were eating, felt like I was shouting at my husband, so much for a romantic meal out. But by far the worse thing is since taking over they’ve tried to pack in more tables and they are far, far too close, my husband had a waiter’s backside in his face whilst he was eating, now some people may enjoy this but not our cup of tea!! Such a shame, could be so much more!!

The booking process was easy and I was sent emails to pay a deposit and create a pre order before the day. when we arrived, the table had been dressed beautifully and we were able to add finishing touches. the Mezanae area was perfect for a group meal (16 people) and felt private but still with a great atmosphere. Staff checked the pre-order with us on arrival and made sure there were no errors, being very attentive to any changes that needed to be made. Food was served on time and the meals we received were delicious. I would definitely recommend The Welsh House Neath and can't wait to try their other venues.

Called over to neath and tried a meal here at lunch time, food was hot, tasty and price was reasonable. Will be going again to try another dish soon.

Well, where to start... firstly we paid a deposit of £5 per person which was fine with our party of 6. But when we added a further 3 people 3 days before our meal date , they had no record or our booking, so lucky we had added 3 more people or we would have turned up and maybe not had a table... and I have to add 7 of the party came from as far as Bargoed and Llangadog (so a far way). Then when we got there, there was no table set up for us. So, while we waited for them to do that, we just stood there in everyone's way. Finally had our meal, which was nothing to write home about . Wasn't worth what it cost. Then the final straw was when we went to pay the bill, they hadn't taken the deposit off.... what a shambles. Mickey mouse outfit comes to mind...... Will we go there again? That would be a NO

Fantastic place to eat and hang out with friends. Food was excellent either generous portions and the overall feel and atmosphere was great. Can highly recommend.

Special event at The Welsh House to celebrate Hallowe’en. Great idea - ticketed event to include a £10 cocktail. Quiz, music & ghost walk all for £5, with the option of adding food from a special menu. The food was decent, the staff were clearly working very hard to manage food and drink orders as well as participating in the activities. Good blueprint for future events

Went as a couple, it is local for us and we only want the best for this place. As it was Halloween there were some special menu additions and an organised ‘ghost walk.’ The latter seemed strange as it took a horde of paying customers and even some serving staff out of the restaurant during peak purchasing time and just as the live band started? Leaving the band playing to a handful of people.. There was also a long quiz which had obviously taken a lot of compilation. As ever, the tech savvy younger table won that by quite a margin. My main input here is around structure. There were 4 menus on the table- normal, pizza, weekly specials and Halloween specials. Nobody introduced or explained them at all e.g. the combination of courses. During the meal nobody approaches the table to ask about more drinks or end of meal coffees- or how is your meal - you always have to hail them/catch their attention.. Lost opportunities all over. The staff are pleasant but not coordinated or sales focussed. A small detail, there was no salt and pepper on the table. We went to retrieve it from a bar counter… as did another nearby table. No allergy question asked. Moving to the food that was good/ some very good. The venue has an excellent specialist pizza chef with a proper oven.. As said, overall, good food but uncoordinated staff who you have to ‘chase’ for service.. this means loss of income for the house. Also, you can’t fault the entertainment but all taken together it was an odd non -stop combination. A plea would be- please get an experienced front of houser in so you stay in the Town. It could be, and at times was previously so good in here.

Poor Service, one poor member of staff on her own, while rest of team take paying customers for a ghost walk. Shout out to Kimmy for doing an excellent job on her own, even when some customers were shouting at her. Poor management leaving a young lady on her own

Went for a Halloween Night. Absolutely brilliant value for money. A fantastic ghost walk (even if it almost gave me a heart attack), great quiz in a warm and inviting venue, a free Halloween style cocktail and incredibly friendly and prompt service from Eva, Laura, James and Alex. A privilege to have such a venue in Neath.

Very nicely done out, comfortable atmosphere, some of the dishes were a little disappointing. The staff were friendly and helpful, but very slow as whilst first course arrived in good time, unfortunately main course took forever to arrive, no apologies or explanation. The restaurant wasn't busy. But overall a nice experience.

Wouldn't recommend this place to anyone unless they fancied wasting their money on a poor experience with unprofessional staff

Sunday dinner is the best I e had in along time, would recommend to anyone also have live music on a Friday night can't really fault it I would recommend booking a table.

First visit here. Lovely Sunday roast, vegetarian and beef option, along with a Bara Brith and custard for dessert. Will definitely re-visit to try meals from their main menu.

Our first time here this evening and we were a party of 15 mixture of adults and children. Staff were amazing and the food was delicious. Nothing was too much trouble at all. Staff were all lovely, and the steak which I had was cooked to my liking and tasted so good. I would definitely recommend you visiting and booking a party here. We will be back.

Good points: The food was outstanding. Couldn't fault it. Everyone was happy with their meals! Compliments to the chef. Unfortunately, there are more bad points than good: We booked for a group of 8 at 5:30pm. When we arrived, there was no table available for us, so we were seated in their function room. We waited for an hour for our food to arrive, which was fine while we were chatting and had drinks, or so we thought.... When we were half way through our meals, the waiter came over to tell us we had to leave within 10 minutes as there was a private party booked at 7pm. We had to rush our food, and were then told we would be seated back in the main restaurant. When we vacated the function room, there was once again no table for us. The staff did arrange one for us, but we felt disappointed that even though we had been asked to leave the function room, that a table wasn't waiting for us.... What would have happened if we were carrying our plates of food....? 🤔 We were then offered a round of complimentary drinks as a way of apology, but unfortunately we waited again for this. Another hour passed. Then finally, we came to pay... Two more hours of waiting. It seemed that the venue/staff/systems were I'll equipped to handle a full restaurant and full function room. To add final insult to injury, when we were leaving, we over heard the manager asking her staff if we had ALL paid.... We were tempted to walk out without paying many times in those two hours, but we waited... And then to hear that was really disappointing!

Absolutely gorgeous pizza, would highly recommend. Staff are friendly as well and there's always a chilled out vibe whenever I visit. Can't wait to visit for our Christmas meal! Da iawn pawb!

Pizza was really good as always. One topping was missing that I paid extra for was missing I asked just eat for refund just for the topping because the rest of the order was fine and they refunded whole amount which I was not expecting.

Had a couple of beers and lunch. Nice atmosphere and good service from the staff but they were really stretched as it was quite busy. Good value 👍👍

Fantastic good and a really great atmosphere, show casing Welsh ingredients cooked perfectly. I had the fish and chips, the fish was light, meaty and steaming hot and perfectly battered. The chips were lovely thick cut with extremely fluffy potato and a glassy crunchy shell. Possibly a bit more expensive than other locations in the town but 100% recommended

A lovely place for a quality meal of welsh ingredients with french cuisine influence. We visited on a Tuesday evening so quiet atmosphere as only four to five tables filled. The service was attentive and relaxed with food arriving at a good pace. The portion sizes are good with attention placed on the presentation of dishes and welsh provenance of ingredients. I understand that there can be a wait of food when the place is full that said would heartily recommend for a good quality meal in central Neath. There is a three course menu for reduced price. Good selection of drinks with three choices of red and white wines by the glass if not splitting a bottle.

James was incredibly attentive without being intrusive. He checked in with us periodically to make sure everything was to our liking and even went out of his way to accommodate a special request we had. His genuine care and professionalism made a significant difference in our dining experience. What stood out the most was how James handled a small issue with our order. He addressed it swiftly and with a smile, turning what could have been a minor inconvenience into a positive part of our meal. His approach made us feel valued and well-cared for.

Brilliant restaurant and cocktail bar in centre of town, very different from the adjoining pubs and fast food outlets. Staff welcoming and accommodating, even making space on a busy night. Food has a local Welsh tilt to well know meals, making it a pleasure. Food was well cooked and presented. A new favourite when I visit next….well done

Visited here on a Saturday Evening and can't praise it enough. Our table was booked for 6:30 and we had pre-ordered as there were 11 of us. We had a table upstairs in the mezzanine area which was perfect - space to ourselves, but could still hear all the other guests downstairs so didn't feel excluded from the atmosphere at all - plus close to the loos when needed. Food was served and majority of us had starters and mains. No desserts were ordered as we were all so full. Food was excellent and portions a really good size too. Everything was spot on the staff were amazing and we will be returning. Already looking at their Christmas menus

The very first thing to notice is the traditional feel, the whole place has. Lots of dark wood, spacious gaps between tables and seating, plenty of room for anyone with mobility issues. The welcoming staff are excellent, Jo and Kamima provided great service, with plenty of smiles, made everyone feel special. The food was exceptional, all from a menu, full of Welsh produce, with every meal, including kids burger, being of the highest quality. Absolutely enjoyed the visit and definitely one place to try.

The Welsh House in Neath offers a delightful dining experience. We enjoyed creamy garlic mushrooms on sourdough toast, which were rich and flavorful. The standout was the Welsh plant-based burger, bursting with taste that lingers pleasantly. The atmosphere was welcoming, making it a memorable evening. Highly recommend!
