Just back from a flying visit to london. Always make it my business to visit the wellington when in London. I love sitting outside people watching drinking magnificent pints of madri. Was served by the lovely Aoife last friday and had a great bit of banter and craic with her about my birthday. Simple things like this add to the overall ambience of the Wellington. BIG shout out to Aoife and all her colleagues. Looking forward to my next visit already.

We had a musical booked nearby (Tina Turner) and decided to eat first before the show. Why we chose The Wellington from all the others was simply: It had a wide ranging menu and the character of the building made it stand out from the rest. We pre-booked a table and pleased we did, as it is a very popular pub, either for eating or just popping in for a drink. Our table was booked for 5.00pm, we had arrived a little early but that wasn’t a problem and we were seated on the first floor by a window, just what we had asked for when we booked. (I think the main restaurant is on the first floor and the pub with light snacks is on the ground floor. The toilets are a further floor up on the second floor) We ordered a chicken and mushroom pie with oyster sauce and a fish and chips, both were cooked to perfection (and yes I did thank the chef!!!) Deserts were delicious too. The staff, all friendly and knowledgeable and it was a pleasure to briefly chat to them. Would definitely return to The Wellington when in this area again, as the atmosphere and decor was very welcoming, the food was excellent too. I have added some pictures to showcase the first floor restaurant and I asked if I could take some pictures before other customers came it, hence the lake of people, because I wanted to show off some of the features. The pub was happy for me to do so.

We were in London for our last day. We were tired of Fish and Chips and wanted something different. Since the Wellington was right around the corner from our hotel (Waldorf Hilton), we stopped in. We were very happy that they seated us even without a reservation. They advertised that they specialty were their meat pies. We ordered the SLOW-COOKED BEEF RIB, SHIN & PULLED BRISKET PIE - Cooked in a rich red wine sauce, topped with light pastry. Served with roasted carrots, rich gravy and Cornish clotted cream mash. IT WAS AMAZING! Rich gravy with the lightest flakey crust on top. We would definitely go back.

Last night we chose the beef pie and the lamb shank shepherd's pie, followed by the fruit crumble - all absolutely delicious, generous helpings, piping hot and attractively presented; what more could you possibly ask?! We would both highly recommend this historic pub for its great food and close proximity to theatres (we saw Alfie Boe last night, who was excellent; as were Michael Ball and Jamie Oliver, making unexpected guest appearances - bravo!)

Pros It’s a nice pub, nice interior outside seating and location. Not really many similar options nearby tk the courtauld for example. Cons/areas of improvement/ service, both at the venue and also when attempting to book before. I tried to book prior to the day due to being disabled (and google says disabled friendly) however a phone call on the day of my booking, did make this seem that actually this isn’t suitable. I do query that it should say disabled friendly online when it doesn’t seem this way. For example, the toliets are only located down stairs and the seating arrangements I couldn’t see a disabled or a lift, and neither was I made aware of one when I asked. When speaking to someone on the day, I asked for a seat that was high, and was made aware they are all high. On the phone I was told there is a dining room however, the person I spoke to didn’t seem to want to offer this. I did directly ask “what do you suggest as I have never been” after I did my best to explain my disabilities, they kind of chuckled and I generally didn’t feel like they were being as helpful as prehaps they could be. I did feel a bit like i was just being awkward and they weren’t thag willing to try and understand. I had I had just said to cancel the booking and there didn’t seem To be a solution to accommodate for me. On the day we popped in there was seats to see if suitable, we tried the inside seats with the idea of going outside if I couldn’t manage. Therefore we ended up going even without the booking. Another issue was the food. I had a burger. The chips were stale and the plate was swimming in water. So much so that the burger bun was soaking. I don’t think it was burger juice as it was quite clear. I was with friends and honestly; didn’t want to complain. We weren’t asked how our food was or checked on at any point.

The Wellington pub in London sounds like a quintessential English experience. It's great to hear that the ambiance is authentic and welcoming, perfect for winding down after work or enjoying a cozy dinner. Your rave review of the food, especially the boar and chorizo pie and the sausage and potatoes, makes it clear that they know how to do traditional English fare justice. Sounds like a must-visit spot for anyone craving hearty, delicious meals in a classic pub setting!

We chose a sharing platter today from the card menu, which was quite tasty, thought the Halloumi fries were very tasty😋 I didn't know that there was extra choices on the board inside the Pub, as our friends platter dish was different to ours! So take a look on the inside board and get a better selection👍 Also enjoyed a couple of bottled Berry ciders in the sun😎 Quite a nice place to stop, people watch in the busy streets and enjoy your time there.

I had already dined in another pub in the Nicholson's chain, with a positive rating, and this time too I am enthusiastic. The atmosphere at the Wellington is very warm, the staff are really friendly, the food is excellent, I tried the pie with beef rib and shank cooked in a red wine sauce, it's absolutely mouth-watering, served with mashed potatoes and carrots boiled, the chips and beer are also excellent. The restaurant room is upstairs, much quieter than the room downstairs which is only used for drinking and chatting. I love this place, one afternoon I even stopped for a beer at one of the tables outside. The restaurant service is served, for the bar service (lower floor) you have to go to the counter to order and sit at the first free table. On the website of the Nicholson's chain, in addition to photos and a detailed menu, there is also the possibility of booking a table.

After having a lovely lunch here in February with my son, I decided to return with a friend. The meal, again, did not disappoint, but I cannot say the same of the service. Jose was definitely lacking in charm. We had booked days previously and had the booking confirmed. On arrival I mentioned I had a reservation....the reply I received was a blunt NO! I proceeded to show my email, whilst he asked for my name and conceded, with no apology that he had crossed my name out....we had arrived 5 minutes early I might add. I turned to check my friend was behind me and the impolite Jose barked 'are you coming or not'. Shocked to say the least! Needless to say, we did not leave a tip as the experience tainted what should have been a pleasant lunch date.

Over the years we have been to this establishment a few times when in town and always had a reasonable meal. It was recently refurbished and it seems to me the chef has changed because the food was not good. We had tomato soup to start which was tasteless and watery tasted like it had come out a tin and watered down. Had steak and ale pie which was reasonable my wife had lamb shank pie which was completely drowned and had a lamb bone in the middle, we should have sent it back. For dessert we had apple and blackberry crumble the crumble had been thrown onto the apple and blackberry . My wife had ice cream and you could hardly see it my custard was the smallest portion i have ever seen. My wife asked for a Jamesons whisky not a double and they charged an extortionate £9.05 a ridiculous amount. The service was ok but we will not be returning.

A Nicholson's pub, The Wellington on the corner of Strand and Wellinginton St is ideally situated between Trafalgar Square and Fleet St. This established food and beverage haven has been a stalwart for many thousands of locals as well as international custom. Once you walk in to this pub, you're greeted by the Neo gothic architecture and an atmosphere only a Nicholson's venue can ever create: a warming, atmospheric, with mouth-watering food and beverages. The staff always provide you with a, "Hello!" and ask you how your day has been, and if there is anything else, never to heaitate to ask. Despite us being strangers, we certainly felt like we were part of something greater, and the positivity the staff exude can only rub off on to you! At the bar, we ordered the Nicholson's Steak & Ale Pie and their Fish & Chips and a Nicholson's Ale and a Nicholson's Gin Mule. We tried what they're known for, as their branding suggests, and they certainly did not disappoint! We were asked about food allergies (which we had none,) but it's reassuring that such a busy and vibrant establishment does take the time required to ask about the tiny little things. Their suggestions on beer, ales and wines including spirits was diverse and had yardage. We sampled different ales as well as some of their Bar Snacks, which were on offer for 3 or 5 for a set price. The portions of food are fantastic, yet we made the space available to eat everything. Jack, Mac, Beth, and Aoife (I had to check the spelling here (forgive us if we're wrong) went the extra mile not only for us, but the entire pub. The Wellington was busy early evening with after work customers and diners alike, yet they had everything handled seamlessly. Our several hours and our 1 for the road stoppages were the best thing we'd experienced that day in London. Thank you for making us all feel welcome, and thank you to the great chef and their team for providing us such delicious and delectable food. We'll be back here on our next visit for sure. Oh! Don't miss out on their Friday night musician - we couldn't stay in town for this, but from what we were told, this night brings another string to the bow of The Wellington.

The Wellington is lovely and spacious however despite booking a table for drinks only, it was upstairs in the dining area, and the waitress continuously treated us rudely explaining that we need to dine or go downstairs. In the end we only had two drinks each and the Polish waiter was lovely. That rude waitress however needs to be taught some customer service. It's not a customer's issue where a table gets booked and then be made to feel bad about not wanting to eat pub food. It's Covent Garden. Move on!

Being upstairs, the restaurant isn’t very accessible for pushchairs or anyone unable to walk/ climb. For those who can get there, the decor is traditional English style and with many seats. Menu was good including “puddings”. Service was quick and friendly. Prices were reasonable. My stuffing balls were overcooked and dry, maybe microwaved too much. Gravy was not generous enough. As a Greek who eats a lot I have to say that the portions were huge and the taste was fantastic! I loved it!

We first came here in 2005 with a group of teenagers and have been back over the years. Today's visit was as good as ever! Jose provided us with great service and the food was delicious! The smoked Scottish salmon appetizer was really good. We each got a pie: my wife got the chicken and truffle oyster mushroom pie, which she loved; I got the British steak and Nicholson's pale ale pie! Great flavour! We each got a bramley apple and blackberry crumble. (It didn't taste like North American blackberries but it was really good!)

Quiza was a very attentive server and we had a lovely & relaxing lunch. Food & ambience were top notch. A very convenient location for exploring the theatre district or the galleries at Somerset House.
