PEOPLE WITH ALLERGIES DO NOT GO HERE. This place poisoned my boyfriend on his 25th birthday. I booked this place as he’s always wanted to go here, on booking the place I notified them of his peanut allergy twice, and on entering the restaurant I reminded them AGAIN, and when we sat down and then again when he ordered. The waiter advised which food to order and we set about the meal. A minute into eating his mouth started to tingle, a few minutes later he had to leave to throw up. We had to immediately leave in order to make sure he’s safe and to take him to the hospital if needed. They denied any wrongdoing and any peanuts and offered no refund. They ruined my partners birthday and literally POISONED HIM. We had to cancel our reservations for drinks and activities after. Regardless of this the food just tasted really salty, and there were only two other couples in the restaurant. The ambience was off because it was so empty, I do NOT recommend.

Walked in as a solo diner and ordered one fish, the baby octopus. Food: dish was very salty and overly done. Service: the first waiter gave me the water and did not pour it, second waiter poured it after, contrasting the first waiter’s non-representative behavior. Ambiance: good level of music noice, nice lighting, beautiful decor, not too crowded.

Kitchen counter experience with entertaining up and down intensity in front of us. The various bites carried a great sense of combined texture and flavour. Starting light(er) and accelerating into savory, British influenced courses, storytelling made absolute sense. The lamb variations were exceptional, Eccles cake fantastic, only the petit fours unfortunately came short in my opinion. [visited in April 2024, restaurant owned no Michelin stars at this time]

Amazing evening for my fiancés 50th birthday, we had the tasting menu at the chef’s counter. Such a good experience watching them cook and prep the dishes. The food was fantastic too. Highly recommend! The beef tartare was our favourite, with the waffle. I would never order this from a menu but it was simply amazing so would recommend ordering from the main menu if visiting for dinner!

Looking for a pre-theatre restaurant we chose this one: what a lovely surprise. The service, atmosphere, and the food were all superb. In particular, the food was incredibly flavoursome with superbly balanced sauces. Wine was a bit spendy but what was on offer were good wines. We will certainly be back as this was a memorable dining experience.

Service was fairly slow and unattentive. Food was ok but disappointing for the price and the renowned chefs name- I expected much better quality. The steak we had was tasty but incredibly fatty. Enjoyed their set menu on a Tuesday lunch time. Great value for money, with two courses for £32. We added on a bottle of Resiling for £50. I went for the ceviche starter (pictured) and hake for the main. The hake was nice, although I thought the sauce could have had slightly more flavour, but the ceviche stole the show for me. Service was excellent and staff were attentive. It was extremely quiet (we were one of two tables) but imagine it would be much busier during peak times!

Our first time at Social Eating House having been to all the other Jason Atherton establishments. Casual setting and very lively and a real buzz with a full restaurant. In the evening it is a short A La Carte menu(there is a fixed price at lunch and pre theatre) with inventive food as might be expected. Our prawn mousse and white asparagus salad were excellent. We then had a long wait for our mains - chef was not satisfied with one of the dishes- but when they came, cornish wild ream and monkfish they too were excellent. Portion sizes are generous and we had room to share a dessert, black forest mousse, which was also very good. The wine list is very well chosen and if you look carefully can be good value for money if you avoid French classics. Overall it is not cheap but quality is excellent. Because of the long wait they kindly made a reduction to the final bill which was a nice gesture. We would certainly go back.

As we were in the area, and having been to this restaurant a couple of times before, my girlfriend and I thought we'd see if a table happened to be free. The front of house guy (he appears to work at the front bar of the restaurant) told us in no certain terms that there was no table available, after all, this was Soho and a Saturday evening (his default assumption seeming to be that we were tourists - we are not). This was despite the fact that the restaurant was half-empty. This was 7:25pm. We wondered outside for a couple of minutes, before I went onto the restaurant's website on my phone and booked a table for 7:30pm. We headed back in and told the guy that we'd just made a reservation online (no doubt he was surprised to see us again so soon). He went to check it and then informed us that we had until 9pm (despite my confirmation email saying the booking was 7:30 - 9:15pm) And, he added, were we aware that this was to eat, and not merely for drinks? Well yes, of course we were aware of this. The food was nice - we both enjoyed the fillet steak. 4 stars for the food, minus 1 for the poor reception.

Dinner with a friend last night. Great buzzy atmosphere which was great! Food options are not extensive but the quality of the food was nice. The pork belly sliders and the chicken and mushroom ravioli standout dishes. We had the banana parfait for dessert and that was heavenly! The only downside was the service. We felt so completely rushed - we had barely sat down before the waiter came over to ask if we were ready to order. A minute later a different waiter came to ask the same question. We were eating our starters and had not even started eating one of the shared dishes when our main arrived and the starter was pushed to the side to make room for it…. Such a shame as the vibe and food is great. Generally love JA restaurants having eaten at Pollen street and little social - so was looking forwards to this first visit. Not sure we would come again sadly

My family and I decided to visit here for a special 60th birthday for my dad, and we were not disappointed!! We sat at the chefs table which was such an incredible experience, watching the kitchen in action was phenomenal and was impressive to see how organised and calm such a busy kitchen was! The tasting menu was brilliant, with such a variety of flavours and textures all presented immaculately. I opted for the vegetarian menu which certainly did not disappoint! My favourite courses were the desserts - particularly the rhubarb stood out for me. My family and I enjoyed dining at Michelin starred restaurants, and some of the courses we ate here were better than 2 and 3 Michelin starred dishes we have eaten in the past!! Executive chef Alex and Sous chef Dan took the time to speak to us throughout service and at the end, which we thought was a lovely touch. Somelier Andrea careful explained excellent wine choices suited to our pallets (all delicious!), and it was a joy to be served by Andrea who put a smile on all of our faces! We will definitely be returning to Social Eating House and highly recommend the chefs table for anyone looking for a spectacular dining experiences!

We made a reservation for dinner via the website however it was a bit unclear and accidentally reserved the Bar upstairs. Having told them our mistake the hostess was extremely unhelpful in accommodating us despite the fact that there were multiple tables open. We ended up going to the bar for a drink and reserving a table for the restaurant in 30 minutes so we ended up eating at the restaurant any ways. Despite this the food was pretty good and we were able enjoy the meal. The next morning however it bugged me enough to write my first ever negative review of a restaurant.

We chose Social Eating House after lots of research on other tasting menu options in London for a special occasion. We have eaten in Jason Artherton's Little Social previously and had a great meal. We are so glad we chose Social eating House...the food was interesting, creative, tasted really delicious, and the presentation was fantastic. All executed impressively well down to the food, skill on view (really great to be able to sit just next to the kitchen and see the amazing coordination and skill of the staff) , service and wine flight with a really sweet and knowledgeable sommelier with an interesting choice of wines. We didn't chose it for the price but the cost of this compared to others in London is extremely reasonable for the standard and creativity if you are lucky to be able to have this kind of meal for a treat. Our waiter pitched it all just right, this place is not stuffy and manages to achieve a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. We were really lucky it was a quiet night at the Chef's Table and we were able to have a good chat with the exec chef Alex which was really interesting and added to our lovely and memorable experience. My husband who is a chef was able to pick his brains a it! The level of work, skill, taste combinations and time taken is amazing. I cannot recommend this highly enough, we love our food, and had such a memorable and special evening with every aspect of the experience outstanding. Treat yourself and chose this over other maybe more high profile options, it won't disappoint.

Really disappointed with the experience we had for Valentine's Day here. First off, I'm not here to blame the servers who were there that night. They were massively understaffed with around what looked to be only 3 people to serve a packed restaurant. They were polite, apologetic and clearly out of their depth that night. This feels more like mismanagement higher up. We waited over half an hour to even be served bread initially which came out burnt, and well over an hour before we even got our starters. The couple next to us said they had been there almost 3 hours and were only just finishing their mains. When their desserts turned up, the ice cream was already melted on the plate... Considering this is a highly rated Michelin Guide restaurant, with the price tag that comes with it, we had anything but a fine dining experience. If there had been an adequate number of staff members instead of upper management skimping on one of the busiest evenings of the year for dining, this could've been a great experience. But alas, that did not happen. Instead, we decided to leave after our starters as there was no way we were going to finish before 12am. The server comped our starters, with us paying for only the wine plus the 12.5% service charge, which was appreciated. We spent the rest of the night hunched over a table in McDonalds at 11pm with my partner wearing a formal dress and me in a suit, the juxtaposition was quite funny. My partner travelled 2 hours into London for some McDonalds fries... On the plus side, at least we received our order within 10 minutes...

Had some tasty food here but a couple of bits let it down so left feeling a bit underwhelmed. We went for lunch on a Thursday. It wasn’t particularly busy so would expect great service, yet they were fairly sporadic and not the friendliest. The other odd thing was portion sizes. Starters were all tiny. I had scallop which was a really tasty dish. For main, I had sea bream (excellently cooked) which was a really generous portion, but served on about a spoonful of the potatoes and a finger sized carrot or two. It just wasn’t enough to pair with the fish. Can’t fault the food quality but wouldn’t race back for the reasons mentioned above.

Don’t eat out in London much and went for the Menu Fixe as we were early. Cocktail option was not wise as it then accompanied the starter at rapid pace. We went for the £15 supplement on the steak as the Cumbrian rib eye sounded amazing. It was too salty and when we were asked by the lovely waitress my wife told her and she brought over the manager. He insisted on getting another one which was good and I finished my main course alone and wife then had hers after. Desert was nice. The worse part was how we were told it was not the steak but us, and the salty glaze was a speciality. Both of us had steak and both felt the same and we do like our rib eye. Just disappointing and no eye contact at end even though we tried not to make a fuss.

My friend chose this restaurant for a pre-Christmas dinner - despite the fact it has one of those annoying deposit taking terms where if you need to cancel within 48 hours you have to pay £40 per person. Also, their phone lines are not open weekdays so you basically can’t cancel! My friends had booked the pig pub upstairs for pre-dinner drinks but decided not to stay upstairs as it was super dark and very loud. As they arrived first at the restaurant downstairs, they were shown to a round booth in a dark corner with a small circular table. They asked if it would be possible to switch as the table was very small for four and one person had no back support because of the way it was constructed. The front of house seemed disgruntled but did move them. Once we were all seated we asked for a couple of glasses of Prosecco and were told that they didn’t have any Prosecco as they had run out. The only alternative was to have champagne which was double the price or we could just have wine. Really poor show considering it was the week before Christmas with festive menus et al and there are supermarkets which sell Prosecco all around…. The set menu was fine - not many choices but the food quality overall was very good and we had a lovely waitress. The only food related issue was the sirloin steak which had lovely flavour and the sauce was delicious but loads of gristle we had to keep spitting out. You really would not expect this in this kind of restaurant. Our booking was quite early so when we arrived the atmosphere was good but as it filled up it got louder and louder and we were sitting by a big group who were talking very loudly and it became impossible to talk to our friends or hear what they were saying. I mentioned this to the manager who said something like ‘what am I supposed to do about it’ in a very offhand manner and I also mentioned I was disappointed about the Prosecco and the steak. He basically had a very dismissive attitude like he couldn’t care so I went back to my table and re countered the conversation to my friends. He was clearly listening and came over, interrupting me to tell us all how wonderful he is and how everyone loves him and what I had told them was rubbish (he clearly hadn’t heard exactly what I said and assumed I had said something else). It was all terribly childish, unprofessional and extremely rude. Needless to say we will not be back.

I’d steer clear of this place. Went here with my partner this evening and ordered the lamb saddle for £38. The portion size was behind a joke. Two tiny pieces of lamb which were just slightly bigger than a two pound coin, a shred of some cabbage, and some blobs of sauce on the side. Never in my life have I been served such a pathetic excuse for a main course. I had half a mind to send it back and get something else, but my partner convinced me to not make a fuss, however we will not be returning. We had bottled water (no alcohol or even soft drinks) shared a snack (not even a starter, a *snack*,) and had one main each and the bill was over £100. Even for london that takes the piss. I have never in my life been served such a tiny ridiculous main course. I will never come back again. The management need to learn the hard way not to cheat customers. They simply rely on people who are having fun with friends and don't want to make a fuss, so better avoid the situation by choosing any other restaurant in the area.

This is a very good restaurant. Set in the middle of Soho, it is well-connected. Inside, the vibe is fairly casual but the atmosphere, at least the first half of our meal (we sat down at 1:15 pm) was pretty vibrant. I enjoyed the abstract art on the walls. The food was superb through-out. We had three courses each - I had the mushroom & chicken raviolo, followed by fillet steak (medium rare), then panna cotta, washed down by a single glass of red wine. The only thing stopping a 5 star review was the service, which was fine instead of brilliant. Rather than taking our client's coat, the waitress simply pointed at the coat hooks on the other side of the room, while it took slightly too long for the main course and desert to arrive, considering the lack of other customers by that point. We struggled to catch a waiter's eye to ask for the bill.

A standout though was the prawn and pickled melon, just delicious. The steak tartare was also excellent but we weren't sure about the accompanying waffle and sour cream - the tartare was amazing just on its own. A great laid-back restaurant. The food is excellent and good value for this type of restaurant. It was our anniversary, and they made it a great night to remember. We also had cocktails in the bar upstairs before, I'd definitely recommend getting there early to experience this too!

Fantastic! I had a Ribeye and a panna cotta, both dishes were a fine tuned explosion of flavors. This was by far the best food I had in London so far!

I arrived 6 minutes before my reservation. I asked to wait inside the door because I was cold and my table was apparently not ready… even though they had an entire restaurant of empty tables which were ready. A member of staff then came over and asked me and my friend to wait outside, I explained I was freezing cold, and I was told it wasn’t allowed, even though there was ample space and I was just told by another member of staff it was ok. The waiter then purposely held the door open, letting all the cold air in. My friend suggested we go to the bar, which the waiter agreed to. We then went to the bathroom, to wash our hands before our reservation. We came back and told the waiter our name to get our table… to which he claimed we weren’t in the system (we were). The restaurant was empty… and there was no need for a reservation whatsoever. The lead waiter was purposely giving us a hard time. This kind of behaviour is unacceptable. I won’t stand for it. And I hope reading this review will help you to choose somewhere else.

Epic meal, the best meal for my most recent quick trip to London. Wine list is superior. All the food was delicious. My significant other has a laundry list of food allergies and the kitchen produced a meal worth remembering. My ribeye was cooked to perfection. Dessert was divine. I will definitely return on my next visit across the pond.

Poor service again in the restaurant as well as the bar upstairs and when I mentioned this to the evening manager on leaving (around 7pm) I was greeted with “yes we know all about it and 3 people will be sacked today” Arrogance at its worst. I suggested slightly better training which was dismissed with “they’re being sacked”. You really need a new management team in asap. On a positive note - the food was delicious. Well done to the kitchen but I’m afraid I won’t be returning. Sorry.

I’ve eaten here on many occasions as it’s very central for SoHo and the food is good at a reasonable price. I usually have a steak which tends to be very good. Also nice wine with helpful staff and prompt service. Really a good restaurant for this part of London serving a good mix of British and Modern European dishes.

The menu was 29,5 for two dishes. We added 15 to replace salmon with steak and 8 to have cheese in stead of dessert. 52,5 GBP for two dishes. What a mistake. The steak was so hard to chew that we gave up and the cheese so small that all three very small pieces could fit on the fork. Drinks (13 pounds) were watery. Social Eating House is milking their good review in Time Out and it was a very poor experience that spoiled our last night in London. When we talked to the waiter he said the manager would comeå, but he nevet did. Probably hiding in shame.

Enz.

The food was excellent - tasteful, delicious, very well presented. The portions instead, they were VERY small. It's not just me being Italian - it is impossible that an adult human being could be fed with starter-main-dessert from this place. And it's not a matter of how much you spend! We spent £196 for 2 starters, 2 mains and 1 dessert (we had already decided to go home and have spaghetti aglio and olio, we didn't want to give away £12 for one pannacotta) and one bottle of wine (priced £50, available on the internet for €13). I would have gladly spent 10%, even 20 more, to go home full. Once you enter you're prepared to spend a lot of money, it wouldn't have made any difference to me, and I bet it would not make any difference to any of the (potential) customers (this is a free piece of advice for the management - you've got my name and surname for next time). Instead, I have spent a lot of money and I have been thinking since then "What if the scallop I had for starter was scallopS". If you really want to have dinner here (food, preparation and presentation are excellent), I would suggest to stop at Pret a Manger before or after - there's one nearby, 30 metres.

An interesting lunch. We were a part of eight and booked for a midweek lunch. As for atmosphere we were a happy and joyous group but other than us it was as quiet as the grave. Very quiet restaurant, only two other tables occupied so staff not exactly rushed off their feet. Despite that we had to get their attention to order aperitifs and also for our food and wine orders to be taken. Food was good but not exceptional. Nothing really stood out other than some of the courses were on the meagre side. A scallop starter must have been a very small example that was sliced very thinly and distributed across the plate with sea herbs and a padron pepper puree. The chef responsible for slicing and dicing is wasted - could be a brain surgeon. A sirloin steak was well cooked and of a decent size, a cod dish was pleasant but on the small side. Desserts were mixed. Lemon verbena pannacotta over a gooseberry puree was ok but the pannacotta was more like a thin custard. The pistachio frangipane tart didn't elicit gasps of delight. As for cost it worked out at £95 a head including two bottles of wine. We've all eaten at several of Jason Atherton's restaurants but this is one which won't get a second visit. One plus that's worth thinking about is the bar upstairs which opened at 3pm. Ideal place for a post lunch "one for the road". Attentive service, great selection of gin and wonderful cocktails.

Social Eating House, unfortunately, provided a rather lackluster and bewildering culinary experience. Despite my initial excitement, the overall impression left much to be desired. The food failed to meet my expectations and left me feeling perplexed and unsure. The dishes at Social Eating House lacked a clear direction and failed to deliver a cohesive flavor profile. The combination of ingredients and flavors seemed confusing and didn't come together harmoniously. It was challenging to discern the intention behind the culinary choices, leaving me questioning the execution of the dishes. Moreover, the dining experience itself lacked the spark and excitement that I look for in a memorable restaurant visit. The atmosphere and service were average at best, failing to elevate the overall experience. The lack of coherence and standout elements made it difficult for the restaurant to leave a lasting impression. While tastes can vary, and others may find merit in Social Eating House, I personally found it to be a mediocre and perplexing culinary experience. The lack of clarity in flavors and overall execution left me wanting more and struggling to understand the restaurant's reputation.

Will not be coming here again ..waitress was rude ..failed to clear the table properly..we could feel she was annoyed with us as we sat at an uncleared table ..she cleared half of it and left ...then didn't bring a menu and went and served someone who had sat down well after we had arrived . Eventually got a menu off the owner ..ordered food and drinks which was very average when it arrived ...asked for another coffee and she practically chucked it at us ...then asked for the bill which didn't arrive .had to ask again and eventually the owner brought it over ..not a good experience at all so will not come here again . And we have been several times in the past ..awful

The food was exactly what we expected, we had a burger and a hippy bowl with chicken added. Both meals were very nice, and as expected for this style of restaurant. Although we expect the food to be good, what I always judge a place by is its customer service and Dan who served us was excellent in every respect. He was welcoming, smiled, served us promptly, checked our order and a little while after we received our meals dropped by our table to check everything was ok, just the perfect amount of service. Although good service is an expectation, you don’t always get it. The young lady who greeted and seated us when we arrived was also very pleasant although we didn’t get her name. We will definitely recommend this place based not just on the food but on the terrific service we received. We will be back.
