The Wavendon in Sunderland

Very annoyed today. Management of this pub not masters of wine. I have attached pictures of wine. £18 a bottle. 10% proof. Shocking!! This pubs menu food is beautiful. But they need to get choices of wine right. To be fair bar staff took my husbands complaint to management. On my next visit. Would hope they take this review on bored

Booked ahead for a family (of 15) birthday meal. Gave menu in advance so all meals came out together. Pub was very busy due to euro quarter finals and staff where rushed off their feet but still made an extra effort to make our visit special. Especially Emma who came out singing happy birthday and playing the tamborine. This was our 2nd visit to the Wavendon and will certainly be back as food was amazing and very reasonably priced

New menu is a knock out make sure you ask if you have any dietary requirements the team are very accommodating I had the steak cooked perfection but did get a little food envy when I saw the shawarma 🥙 come out

Been here several times and the food is always amazing. Staff are so lovely and special mention to Fran who really looked after me and my family. I would 100% recommend and ask for Fran also

Just leaving a review for a recent wake I organized for my late father. We took the medium package at 10.99 a head for 50 people with coffee at £1 a head for unlimited drinks. When we turned up the buffet was out ready for the party to turn up. To be fair it looked Good well presented but considering the hill was close to £560 pounds the buffet was poor for quality and quantity on display. The deserts had a jam tart cut into 4/6 pieces overall I though was poor as did most of the guests. The manager came to me and asked if everything was OK so said was OK in which he said just OK as was a wake for my late father it wast worth speaking my mind as felt wasn't appropriate. My late father would have turned in his grave at the buffet on show for his family at this time I know it's a chain pub but i was expecting a little more if I'm honest. I do like to pick up positive points aswell and I have to say all the staff were really good and James was really helpful and a credit to the premises.

Absolutely AMAZING! the food starter and main was top notch 5⭐️ hats off to the chef cos their food was outstanding all round, our waitress was Amilia was fantastic and the manager Mark went above and beyond on all aspect. Will definitely be going back in he future. If you havnt been the your missing out. 5 stars all round

Absolutely unbelievable. Food was next level. Mark the manager a great help, gave great recommendations. Amelia couldn’t do enough to help. First time here since reopening and so impressed

This was absolutely appalling! I booked a table on the morning for Sunday Lunch. Arrived and and was told there was no food left but they could do us a hot beef sandwich or we could go somewhere else. We accepted the sandwich to then be told there was no beef. Accepted the pork sandwich to then watch as a member of staff had their family come in, sit at another table, be served Sunday lunch with extra helpings of Yorkshire puddings and meat so much so they packaged up what they had left to take home. We weren’t offered a dessert so paid our bill and left!

Been a few times now, the corned beef pie is amazing, partner said his food was beautiful too, would definitely recommend mark and his team are great

Famous steak baguette....3 strips of tough quick fry steak for £13.95. Complained immediately, didn't eat any, took said "steak" home for dog. Owner gave 20% off so a bargain at £11.95 for 3 strips of tough steak for the dog. 2nd time we've eaten here since New management, 1st time Sunday lunch, which was tasty but barely warm. Shame such an iconic pub doesn't take customer complaints seriously and rectify. I wouldn't recommend.

An absolute joke this place, 5 of us here for Sunday dinner, portions of meat is ridiculous, and I MEAN ridiculous, you couldn’t make a decent sandwich with it,,, roast potatoes missing on 3 dinners, no stuffing on the chicken , no stuffing or crackling on the pork, Yorkshire pudding missing on one plate, not very hot, Yorkshire puddings cold,,,,, a bit of a car crash,,,,, lovely gravy though. Doubt we’ll be back 🤔

Fantastic place! Met up with some friends here for a catch-up, was a great night! The staff are amazing & friendly, the food is delicious and very reasonably priced, with hefty portion sizes! The live music on a Saturday is great, sets the atmosphere, gives smaller musicians a chance too! Great place, would recommend popping in if you’re in the area like us.

To be honest we were greeted on arrival by the manager (Mark Carter) on arrival as we were there to remember the passing of our great uncle Jimmy. The attention to the family was so lovely. We were impressed with the friendliness of the staff and the quality of the food. Thank you for the warm welcome from you all.

Lovely Sunday lunch. Me and my partner came for lunch & had a chicken & beef dinner. Food was delicious, service was super friendly and atmosphere welcoming - much improved service than it used to be. All staff were attentive & chatty which was nice especially the manager who checked up on us - think he was called Mark. Will defo be popping back.

Popped in twice since new owner took over . 1st just for drinks and then went back for food . Landlord is a great bloke very welcoming and will do what he can for you . On 2nd visit we got a fillet steak and a parmo . Being a smoggie im fussy with the parmo but i can say its by far the best in sunderland! The fillet was better than what we have had at miller and carter . My Mrs is hard to please with food being a chef but she loved it ! Quality food and great service combined with good value!! Looking forward to our next visit.

Food not the best , we got a Sunday lunch roast potatoes hard and food just Luke warm , when asked later how food was I was told off like child I should have mentioned it earlier , but as I was in a group of 10 did not hear when asked how food was. Server was more interested in jokes and terrible banter than hospitality. Would not return on all of above basis

Glad to see our local back open again came here with a couple of friends. Had service by mark the manager which was second to none ! food was beautiful and great Saturday night entertainment! Will definitely be back.

We have been a few times since the new owners took over and have to say it’s like chalk and cheese to the last ones. Plenty of people in who are drinking and eating and as yet not seen anyone doing anything that they shouldn’t. Friendly staff and the manager is very helpful. We were at the stage where we would not have returned if the prior regime was in place and turning a blind eye to what was going on. This is a great pub and deserves owners that are willing to look after the locals as they are. From a few short weeks ago to now I would definitely recommend this place. And look forward to trying the food as have heard good things about it.

We visited the Wavendon last night for dinner. There was 5 of us and our dog so we sat in the lounge / bar area. Lovely warm welcome and great service from the manager. We ordered pizzas, pasta, potato skins, garlic mushrooms, garlic bread and onion rings. All of the food was beautiful, authentic and fresh. Great value for money too. We'll definitely be returning soon. Treats for the dog too so he was happy. Well done to the new management.
