We dined here as a large group and we all had good meals and there was a lot of food served. Seems to be a theme in Newcastleton, it was like eating in America! I had the haggis stuffed chicken which was tasty.

Staff are friendly but food is average/poor I paid £7.95 x2 for two garlic mushroom starters. They were just the cheap frozen mushrooms served with a side salad. My son asked for an omelette and it was burnt. I had chicken burger and that was lovely but o my overage. In my opinion the good is overpriced for the quality. I don’t mind paying if the quality is of a high standard.

We were staying nearby for a few nights and ate here twice it was that good! Lovely home made food . We had curry and pie both delicious. Puddings we’re even better, sticky toffee pudding and apple tart. Would return every week if we didn’t live 4 hours away !! For traditional pub food at reasonable prices it’s a must if your in the area.

We stopped for dinner with our dog. You can go in the bar area with dogs so no issue. Good portion size and staff attentive. Well done. Reasonable prices and good cocktails!

We came here the last time we visited this area. We were pleased last time and felt like old friends. The food was all freshly prepared and made to your satisfaction . I do not .like a big meal in the Evening, But it was not a problem that I only had a soup and sweet. . The young waitress who served us was very friendly and the Locals in the bar made us feel welcome, A very Pleasant experience and a good varied Menu.

We were staying in the area and arrived in Newcastleton late. We dropped in on spec just grateful to find something to eat in the local area. What a great surprise to stumble across. Nice friendly service, great steak and at a really good price. My daughter's chicken pieces were succulent homemade and tasty. Just a shame we did not have more time to enjoy the beverages.

As guests of the Grapes Hotel we have been tormented by the lovely smells escaping the kitchens. So we decided to give it try. Restaurant is very clean and fresh, appears to have recently been refurbished. Tables are well spaced out so you are not sat on each other. Great food god sized portions all very well presented. Prices are good, cheaper than the only real evening competition in the village. Food arrived quickly, though there was a bit of a delay in our main course plates being cleared. The staff are welcoming and friendly. Highly recommend.

Staying in Newcastleton for some mountain biking and wanted to watch Andy in the semi at Wimbledon. Staff couldn't have been more friendly, put us and the the three kids in the back function room with a TV to ourselves! Even served us food and drinks through there. The food was extremely good. I had the sausage and black pudding thing and it was absolutely delicious. My wife really enjoyed her steak pie too. Highly recommended!

Visited this hotel 1st in August 2014 and the food was very good and service was good, 2nd visit in Sep 2014 and it was really quite poor, service was terrible after waiting for 10 mins at the bar we asked for a table in the restaurant but were told we would have dine in the bar, we ordered our food then 10 mins later we were approached by the man who told us our choise was not available and we would have to choose something else, no apology! while there was a few table dinning we then waited a further 40 mins for our food, when it arrived it was certainly not as good as our previous meal, just very average. Maybe this was just a bad night but have not been back since.

Good choice of mains at reasonable prices ranging from £9 - £18, starters are a little pricey at £7. They do a good early special of 2 steaks and a bottle of wine for £25 till 6:30pm.

Following a recommendation by the Flatt's farm Farm B and B we ventured into the attractive square in the middle of Newcastleton for supper at the Vine restaurant in the Grapes hotel. Whilst the restaurant is not in a starred class , the fare provided was fulsome, colourful and tasty, served well by a hard working and smiling waitress. The menu was all one could wish for, with a full variety of meat , fish and vegetables on offer. The fact that it was busy on a Monday speaks well for its quality. I would not have called it a celebratory meal but a satisfying one, certainly.

We had a quick lunch here while out exploring. Very casual, but a nice varied menu and very reasonably priced. The food was fresh and well-prepared. Barely had enough will-power to leave without sampling any of the very temping treats in the display case, but will have to come back again someday!

Presentation and produce of the highest class, if you had this class in a big city you would have a long wait for a table and pay through your nose, yet here it is in a small borders village, try it you won't be disappointed.

This was a return tripfor dinner to the Vine Restaurant in the Grapes Hotel at Newcastleton. The menu has such a great selection, something to suit everyone, including vegetarians. The portions are generous, many dishes usinglocal produce and Scottish produce. If you can manage a dessert, you are in for a treat, they are stunning to look at and very very tasty. Excellent service from the waiting staff and superb chefs. Enjoy!

Stopped in for some lunch today. Friendly service with a good and varied choice of menu. Offers half portions of meals if more suitable. Brilliant value. Hot and cold options available. Felt like the teapot was bottomless, think it was 3 cupfuls in total!

Wonderful food and so nicely presented and the young man serving was so polite and professional. Only negative was the disappointing vegetarian options for my sister. Macaroni cheese is more suited to a cafe menu. But a lovely evening none the less.

Got to say, I’ve never had a bad meal or experience in here. The ham hock and lentil soup as amazing, the steak and mushroom pie was outstanding. It was packed with lean steak in a lush, beefy broth type gravy. Great fies, a la dente peas and everything was piping hot and cooked to order. Even the plates were warm, which I always appreciate. The staff were great and the owner is a real friendly guy. If yer heading North or South on the A68, make sure this is yer pit stop, even for a coffee and cake. Made me smile today whilst I was eating, it was that good. It looks like a greasy spoon if you pass it on the road, but it’s not! It’s on a par with very good pub grub, and it’s really clean inside, as is the kitchen which I passed on the way to use the bathroom.

Go here now before everyone else figures out what amazing value this place is! The drive through the Scottish countryside is stunning (a half-hour drive from the railway stop at Galashiels). The owners have created something special that I simultaneously want to keep to myself and share with the world. Oxana's hosting (and baking and wine-pairing) skills mean you are welcomed with friendly service, clear explanations of the wine pairings and amazing, sweet treats. We have been twice - once in September and once in November - and from beginning to end, our glasses were never empty, and we were treated to amazing service. Now, the food is really something to talk about. Bryn is doing something special here. The food is fresh and innovative while remaining down to earth and approachable. A simple parsnip soup sent our table to heaven with its perfect spice. We had pork belly with the crunchiest crackling and lentils with vegetables that were flavoured so beautifully I couldn't tell what was in them. Blue cheese with truffled honey had all of us begging for more. Every bite is a delight, and some of it was items I wouldn't normally order. This food, this place, is truly something special, reflecting our Borders community and some of the best food in Scotland. Go now!
