The service and staff made this place. Friendly cosy feel. Locals welcoming. If I am honest food is ok, average to slightly better but it's the service that takes this pub to go from a 3 to a 4 star.

What a joke, went for a family Sunday roast.. Well it was not worth any where near the £16.50 they charge..A medley of vegetables is listed on the menu,a spoonful of carrots & some raw red cabbage, which we heard the other tables moaning about.A cauliflower cheese I’d ordered as an extra got given as a complimentary dish to another table as they hadn’t ordered one.But when I asked were mine was they were just going to cook it.Actually wanted it with the roast..2 tiny slices of beef & an undercooked Yorkshire pudding. All in all shocking.. £8 for a glass of wine.. Honestly give this place a wide berth as the other tables in there were moaning about the same things & one table was trying to get the email of the owner to moan,at least she got my cauliflower cheese 🤣🤣 Makes you want to cook at home when your being ripped of for bad food.. Bad service, terrible food & feel totally ripped off..

We checked the previous comments on the Inn before we booked. They seemed very complimentary. We booked. From the outside it didn’t look too bad. Inside it was dark, unwelcoming and cold. The menu was limited and if you didn’t particularly like a roast or vegetarian tart you could have been stuck. A burger was an option. I have to say three roasts later and my fellow guests weren’t impressed. The food was not I am sure homemade and seemed like Brakes bros food. You can see in the kitchen through a door in the corridor by the toilets. We won’t be going back. The only benefit was the waitress who was very nice and her colleague. Prices were good.

Accidentally turned up here instead of The Vine in Barfield with our elderly mother. The proprietor Nicky was very accommodating and we were seated alone at the opposite end of the bar. Sadly the fire wasn’t working, so a little chilly for a 90 year old. The food whilst limited was very nice. We chose the roast beef. It would have stayed warmer though if the plates had been heated first. The mulled wine was warm and pleasant. Unable to make a cappuccino, their normal coffee was very nice. The crumble ordered for our mum was boiling hot. We returned it and asked that it be placed in a cooler bowl so could be eaten. The hand dryer in the ladies toilet was broken and no option for any hand towels or alternatives. Nicky tried her hardest to make our visit pleasant and went out of her way to make sure we got her back safely to our car on the busy road/path covered in snow. Just feel the whole pub was tired and in need of updating.

This was our first trip to the Vine Inn. The food was good, although its a shame the specials board was bear which reduced our options but the service was excellent and friendly. Prices were also reasonable. The only reason I mark as a 4 is the venue itself could do with a bit of updating. It was a little sparce and there was little atmosphere. I would definitely go back with my husband but it's not somewhere I would take friends for a special evening out. Many thanks 😊

The price I feel was very reasonable. We will certainly be returning. Thank you .

The Vine is a fantastic local pub and I'm lucky to have it on my doorstep. Took advantage of the extended 'eat out to help out' scheme and had a great evening with friends at a bargain price! They have lots of safety measures in place so felt 100% comfortable in there. The pub was very accommodating with our fussy menu choices and all the food was delicious (steak and vegetarian pie). My friend accidentally paid way too much (her fault!) and they were quick to tell her and correct it. Thanks for a fantastic night and hope everyone will continue to support our local village pub.

Having moved to the area The Vine Inn started appearing in my FB feed so we decided to give it a try. Our initial visit was on a Sunday (no booking) so arrived to find 1 space to park in the rather small car park. On entering we were greeted by one of the staff who seated us, severed us drinks, and advised us as it’s extra busy there’d be a 30 minute wait for our meal. We ordered a chicken dinner & beef roast, which was served within the promised 30 minutes. Food was good and plentiful, with friendly service.Following a busy day we returned on the Tuesday to try the burgers which were on. 2 for 1 offer. We tried a chicken burger and a beef burger, again both meals were good, as was the service. If you’re in the area a visit is worthwhile especially as week evenings there’s also an offer to be had.

My wife and I visited The Vine Inn for lunch on what was a very quiet day for them. We were waited on efficiently by Teal, who was very friendly and attentive.Food is reasonably priced, and the standard is very high for a village pub.We had a very nice three course lunch, which didn't break the bank, and found the old building, with its low ceilings and timber beams, a very warm and cosy setting for lunch on a cold Autumn day. All the old traditional classic dishes can be found, some with a little modern twist, and all expertly cooked and presented.A bit of a hidden gem!

We did a Sunday walk from the nearby Playing Fields. As usual we had lunch in a nearby pub. To be honest the Vine Inn being a garish blue did not inspire confidence. However, we tried it. Those who had roasts commented on the quality of the meat saying it was the best roast they had eaten for a long time. I had the veggie pie which was outstanding, served with creamy mash and beautifully cooked vegetables. Others had the chicken or steak and kidney pies. All agreed the home made pies were absolutely delicious. The landlady? was friendly and helpful. The young waitress smiled a lot and looked happy in her work. We sent compliments to the chef. There is a separate Vegan/vegetarian menu plus as a vegetarian I was offered another veggie dish from the weekly menu. I was spoilt for choice, very rare! All in all, so glad we went and will definitely go again..

It was 2 for 1 on pies so we thought we would both have the chicken pie - on the menu it says you have to wait 30 minutes for the pies so we got a starter to share as we were hungry. We're a couple of vegetarians who really struggle in the Witham area. So when we saw the sign outside mentioning a vegetarian selection, we had to give it a try. With a completely separate vegetarian menu, we finally had quite a choice, a new phenomenon for us. It was with some relief that the food was really good, way better than the usual token gesture at most restaurants. Our waitress was very welcoming and friendly, answering every question we had about the ingredients and possible cross-contamination. With a regularly changing menu, we will be returning.

My friends and I wanted to go for Sunday Lunch so we looked at your reviews and chose this pub. I can only say I was most upset at what was put in front of us. After a marathon wait we were served prawn cocktails that would only be large enough to give to a two year old child. Then the main event arrived Well all I can say it was rank the veggies were cold. The Yorkshire puddings would be good as cannon balls as they were so hard you couldn’t bite into them. I ordered fish and chips what could go wrong well the fish had been heated up so many times that it was dry and hard and I sent it back After asking to see the manager a young ignorant man whose customer skills were nil. We will not be returning there at any time soon

Some of the reviews of the Vine are poor but this does not reflect the way things are under the new management of Charlie & Martin, who have been running the Vine for about a year. Two of us had starters of homemade Mushroom Soup with truffle oil. This was followed by two choosing the Roast Beef and two the home made Pork & Apple Pie. Gave this place a go for dinner on a Friday night, we were the only people eating (all evening) which was a bit of a worry. Ordered some bread and olives as we didn't like any of the starters. although we moved away some 8years ago to the town centre we still use this as our local pub, its that good... Its not modern, there isnt blaring music so your eardrums thud and there is no annoying TV screens to distract your other half from talking to you. The locals don't bite in fact they are very friendly and if Tony the landlord is not about to pour you a drink we are lucky enough to have the hansom Dave jump behind to pour one for you. Charlie is our budding chef, she cooks a fabulous steak and a mean calamari, the menu is not complicated as its not changed since we have been going, but Tony always puts something on the specials board and its homemade with love. Every 2nd Monday of the month we have a quiz night, its a great giggle with friends, so why not if you passing pop in you are in for a real treat. Oh the Ales, Tony regularly changes and has a great selection and even does his own wine which is actually very good indeed.

We're regulars to this pub for dinners out or family lunches. The food is always freshly cooked to order and is delicious- the lasagne on the specials is my personal favourite.

Really nice little pub in the village of black notley, food is lovely really nice peaceful atmosphere very cosy and traditional. Has a small decked area out the back but too small to get the sun. Lovely pub though.

I have been to the vine inn numerous times and cannot fault it. The drinks are proper ales from proper breweries,The food is good quality fresh homemade pub grub the menu is nice but i do like the specials board theres always something different everytime i go and the staff are kind friendly and welcoming. On my most recent visit we were sat deciding what to eat when the landlord/chef popped his head round the corner to recommend the freshly baked steak and mushroom pie to which he was holding the ceramic tray which was steaming (nothing prepacked about that). I am certain i will be returning very soon.

I can’t see how anyone can knock this excellent little Inn. Having eaten their on several occasions, I find the home cooked foods, excellent and fit for Royalty. For a small Inn, the drinks are varied for everyone’s taste and the real ales are to be recommended. It has a very warm, friendly and welcoming atmosphere and the staffs are very polite and obliging. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.

I have visited the Vine Inn a few times and eaten here recently. The service is always welcoming and the menu has plenty to choose from, whether a small meal or more; always great food and service. It's a lovely, cosy, family friendly pub in a pretty village. The owner and staff are great and I hope to be back soon.

Visited the pub which I thought was going to be lovely sadly I do agree with first comment very over priced for pre packed food that just has been slung in the deep fat fryer. The insides and toilets could do with a very good clean dead flies on the window seal not very nice! I also found who I believed to be the owner have a very odd manner. I won't be going back and wouldn't recommend

The way a local pub should be. The food was top drawer and more important the real ale was superb. Thanks Tony for another superb night out and cheers for the birthday drink.

Had a couple of really great meals at The Vine - good home made food. Great non chain pub, quite unique and individual with a nice selection of wine (the house red is pretty good I have to say). Go for the 'standard fayre' so to speak, or choose from the board one of the specials that Tony has made - it's all good stuff! Well worth a visit :)

After reading the only review I went with an open mind & I had the best homemade soup I have ever had £3.75.The homemade steak & mushroom pie was just like my gran used to make followed by ginger pudding with custard which was excellent. All in all a proper pub selling proper food & proper beer. The only thing i agree with the other review is it looks great on the outside as well as the inside & has a secret garden which can only be reached from inside the pub.

Service was not the best.food was not home cooked as we thought it was going to be. The pub looks gorgeous from the outside. Starters are very over priced for very basic pre packed food.over all would not go back.

We had a wonderful roast dinner with our family of 9. The staff were so friendly and welcoming. The food was amazing. We had starters, main and dessert, pork belly was a great choice, everyone loved their mains and the Oreo Cheesecake was definitely a winner for the children. Thank you again for your hospitality and laughter. We will see you again very soon.

We regularly visit here for breakfast and it is always packed- very popular with the locals. The food is delicious and chefs are happy to adapt to your tastes e.g. crispy bacon. Lots of choice on the menu.
