The best Fish and Chips in the City by far. Plus they always treat my mother well when she goes in and orders Fish! Very friendly owners!

Naz and the staff at the Viking were great. We asked the guys if they could supply food for a large gathering of over 60 people. Communication was clear, super friendly and the food was great. Delivered hot and ready and right on time. Thanks guys for helping to set what ended as a great night. Much appreciated. 👍

Went there on strength of reviews to pick up fish and chips and sadly was very disappointed, I can only assume some major changes have been made since the positive reviews. Food: chips were incredibly greasy and tasted stale (I would assume oil was not hot enough when cooked and they were sitting for a while). Fish was slightly better but still very greasy. Battered sausage was ok. Price: May be a nit-pick but for the price I assumed fish and chips were billed together but no, fish is without chips (which cost extra) or any sauces. Would not go again.

One of the best takeaways in Cambridge. Have been here a few times lately and it’s always spotless and has lovely friendly staff. The food is tasty and portions generous. Absolutely will be coming back!

I went here on a whim after trick or treating with the kids. The place is spotless, the service with a smile, and the cod and scampi is as excellent, which means fresh tasting and not at all greasy, which is a problem with other local alternatives. And they don’t skimp on the portion sizes.

Rude service by Naz, over cooked fish and drowning in oil!!!!! I will never come back again and I would never recommend this shop to anyone.

Absolutely loved our fresh fried Cod fish with chips. The owner and server were courteous and made our stay a pleasant one.

Really super fish and chips yesterday. We were a party of 7 and the fish was cooked impeccably and the chips were perfect. It's not cheap but you get what you pay for and I would highly recommend the shop. They have plenty of seating and even provided cups for the lemonade that we bought. The meal was lovely and highly recommend a visit. I'm still now even finishing off the doggy bag of cod and chips as there was too much in the end ! 😅. Thanks guys 🙏

Hadn't been to the Viking since it changed hands. Large haddock for us both with a large chips. Perfectly prepared and cooked. Both staff were nice and friendly. Now one of the best fish and chips shop around now. Back soon.

Amazing value for money and great food!

I wanted to take my German friend to an authentic fish and chip shop while we were visiting Cambridge. My instinct said go here instead of one of the restaurants in town. After a 20-minute walk from the centre we were rewarded with very generous portion sizes, great-tasting cod and real chip-shop chips - it was clear the oil was fresh. No over-the-top airs and graces, just good, traditional fish and chips. What topped it off was the friendly and welcoming nature of the staff. This is how it should be. Thank you and keep up the great work. (And when I told you this before I left, I joked I wouldn’t leave a review…I lied ☺️).

Chicken nuggets have changed since being taken over , like Maccys nuggets. Shall not be going back sadly

Such a massive shame! Since the new management the quality of food has been significantly comprised. In all my years, I’ve never had worse chips from Vikings. It used to be the best Chippy chips in town! My daughter threw most of of the chips in the bin, they were old, crusty and solid! I couldn’t eat the fish cake either, it smells funny and taste horrible.

I had an overseas guest and they wanted to 'eat local'. It did not disappoint, the service was also friendly and efficient. Thanks for helping me show my friend something typically English cuisine done right!

So normally we love this place the fish and chips are the best in the area, however just on Thursday gone we unfortunately couldn't say the same thing. Once getting home and tucking into our food we both noticed wrapped around a few different chip the first of 3 hairs which where also fried and fairly long, finding one wouldn't have put me off but three is no excuse. All I want to say to the guys is please practice good hygiene we’ve never had this happen before and hope it wont happen again, wearing your hair nets if you have longer hair.

I love the fish and chips at Vikings and must say the quality is always top and is fresh. People working there are super friendly and always give the best service! Highly recommend!

Staff are very rude pulled up outside and as I got out the Car they said I need to move as I was blocking the side way (I was not). The staff member then said you are going to do what you bloody want anyway. Will not be go back there again

Been going to this chippy for most of my life, it being just over the road from my Nan's and in all that time it has never once disappointed. Easily one of the best chippies in Cambridge.

I always have fish and chips from here when I am in Cambridge. However, under the new management it is still good but not as good as it was. Fish was excellent but the batter was less crispy than it was under the previous team. Chips were not as good as they were. Portion size is still huge. It used to be five stars all the way but has now dropped a star for me.

Excellent chips, cooked just right and not too greasy. Sausage/Saveloy was both excellent, chicken burger decent also. Keep up the good work, we will be back!

Over the years I've been here many times, but not for many months (probably sometime last year). I went in today (02.06.23) and bought £4 of chips. Unfortunately, they were extremely disappointing. I like my chips crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside; today the chips I was served were completely under cooked - white, really soft on the outside, not a single chip was crispy. I won't be visiting here again.

Huge portion of not so delicious chips, a rather nice but oily fish, some pricey sausages. Never feel very well after eating here to be honest though.

I’d heard that Viking had new owners and became curious to see if the previous superb standards were still in place. I’m so pleased to say the food was just as good as always with great portions! It can’t have been easy to take over such a well ran and established fish and chip shop but they new guys are doing great! Keep it going chaps! I’ll be back!

First time to eat proper fish and chips in 3 years and I’m glad I discovered The Viking Chippy! I treated myself to the sausage in batter, regular cod and small chips (which were large!) Great, classic chip shop flavour and really friendly and attentive service - thank you!

Despite some of the negative reviews previously posted, I haven’t noticed any change in quality since the new owners took over. The chips are still pretty good, the pineapple fritters were enjoyable. Service was friendly and accommodating. Prices are quite reasonable compared to a lot of chip shops these days.

Ordered large plus regular cod and small chips. After waiting for maybe 5 minutes, what we got was enough chips for 3 people and fish which was battered to perfection, meaning that the batter was thin and crisp rather than half inch thick and soggy with no fish in the middle like some places. Could have dinne with a bit more salt and vinegar but was excellent nonetheless.

After working here for 22 years, after reading some recent reviews I felt compelled to comment. Yes the shop has new owners. Nothing in the shop has changed. Food is still as good as ever and I still go there for my fish and chips. And the sausages are simply amazing. New owners are polite friendly and welcoming. Had people comment on price increases, unfortunately with the high price of fish, oil and of course energy prices. Prices need to be increased in order to make any type of profit. We all need to earn a living. The new owners are continuing to run the shop the same way as it always was. I will continue to buy my food from there. Well done to the new owners for continuing to keep the high standards set by the previous owners.

I feel the need to write a comment as 1 of the partners at The Viking until recently. Yes there are New owners but I want to let customers know that nothing has changed, my business partner is still working there/frying most shifts as are some of the staff I help out if needed. The price increase is on the fish which has increased considerably over the last few months. The owners are still purchasing the same stock from the same suppliers. The owners are accommodating and friendly.

As many other people, since new owners it’s gone downhill. Smaller portions, more expensive, greasy, undercooked. Unpleasant. Such a huge shame and loss to the area. Unlikely that we’ll return after many years of being customers.

Unfortunately under new ownership. Unable to cook what I wanted as it was 6 minutes until closing time. Far enough I suppose. Wouldn’t have been a problem under the community minded previous owners

Was a regular with a weekly visit. No longer. Now under new management the portions have been reduced and the prices have gone up. The food was fine, but no longer decent value. Disappointing.

A very good take-away establishment.

I regularly use this chip shop but the last time I went there were different owners the chips were perfectly cooked and tasty and a good amount. I have recently visited again and new owners I ordered the same amount of chips that I always have and this time I didn't even get half the amount for the same price and I have to be honest they were horrible! Very greasy, I would say over cooked as crispy greasy and not enjoyable. I threw them away. I don't think I will visit again.

I was rather pleased with the cod and chips I got. They were about fifteen minutes from closing and had already started cleaning up, but my food was fresh and hot, even after walking 25 minutes back to my hotel. I’d happily return next time I’m in the neighborhood.

The only downside to this place is that they ar closed Sunday and Monday. Absolutely brilliant chippy, the chicken nuggets are better than any other ones I've had. Very much recommended!

What’s happened? I have not used the Viking for a while but I remember their chips as great. I just picked some up and had to throw them away. The oil on them tasted strange and had a nasty after taste. I couldn’t taste chip/ potato at all. Battered sausage was not too bad though. 3/5 for the sausage. Don’t think I will ever go back sadly.

A very good chippie all around. I always seem to arrive when they're out of the thing I wanted but in 5-10 min they it up fresh so I can't complain. The batter stays nice and crisp, the fish tastes fresh, the chips are good, and for what you pay you get a ton of food.

This place used to be nice but now not so much as its all just oily everything is swimming in it, fish doesn't look nice and chips don't have a nice taste, it's not cheap yet the quality is poor!

The quality of fish is very good but it is completely let down by the cooking. Everything was saturated in oil as the fryers weren’t hot enough. It’s the first time I’ve ever binned half a meal. I appreciate that when I went it was quite busy but when every other chippy can manage not to run cold fryers I don’t think it’s an acceptable excuse. Curry sauce was good and chips unfortunately suffered the same fate as the fish. I would be open to returning but just not a Friday night. But in the immediate future I will be going elsewhere.

I ordered a medium chips large fish, medium cod & curry sauce the fish & curry sauce are hot and good size position. I’m a regular customer but when I opened my chips I was not impressed I ordered enough food to go around my two daughters and my partner but the portion is so small iv had to cook more chips at home to be able to feed us all I do recommend this chip shop to a lot of people I’m just rather disappointed that this time my chips was not to there normal standards of what this chip shop offers. I will still resume my custom and hope next time I won’t come across this issue again.
