The Veil restaurant & Bar in Basildon

I was hooked on their grilled fish(with large portions of yam and plantain) till I tasted their asun. Chai. If u need to be properly introduced to asun, try veil restaurant. Whoever is the chef there is very very good

I ordered 4 items on Just Eat, Veils called to say that they couldn't fulfil 2 items. I cancelled and ordered elsewhere. Ihave been fully charged and now they are incommunicado, mobile is cut off and they do not answer the phone. So I am £70 down. Terrible way to do business....dishonest

Been here a few times to try the local Nigerian dishes and they were excellent. The jollof rice, peppersoup, and suya are my wife's addiction. Nice and friendly staff and a cozy place too. Highly recommend!

Needed some place around my house to go for dinner and I found this on google maps, it was a small cozy place, absolutely loved how tender the curry goat was, only downside was the fact that it wasn’t much in quantity compared to the rice. The drinks were chilled, customer service great. However the music was very loud so if you want to talk without shouting this isn’t the place. Kid was crying all through.

There was 6 of us. Friendly welcome, offered to put some beers in freezer to cool them off quicker for us. Waitress had little knowledge of the meals on offer but was very friendly. Unfortunately they didn't have the meal I asked for after waiting 30 minutes. They then suggested an option which they the later didn't have either. The chef came out and apologized and offered a tray of tough grisly beef with strong spice on, which I ate a little if but didn't like very much. He then brought a bowl of Turkey which tasted good but turns out was not full cooked and pink inside. Wasn't charged for my meal, but didn't enjoy either. Mac and cheese was good, as was the curried Goat. Some of the others meals where not full hot either.

It was a wonderful experience!!!! Go there with your eyes closed, the cuisine and the chef are incredible. Coming from Paris, it's difficult to find tasty dishes in England, but here it was a wonderful surprise to eat such tasty cuisine. Thank you for that.

What an incredible experience with you guys today! We came for my sisters 30th birthday and was not disappointed. the food was AMAZING, so tasty, cooked from the heart, the portions were so generous and lots of options. The value for money was just amazing and the staff.......THE STAFF........Soooo friendly, accommodating, attentive and honestly made the whole dining experience! This place is a vibe all of its own, the decor, the music, the food and the staff all together makes for a brilliant venue honestly guys if you've not tried it here before you should! we will be back for sure! thank you for making it so special! xxx

Tried this place for takeaway on Saturday and wow. Food was amazing. The curry goat was tender hot and spicy just the way we like it. Jerk chicken juicy and tasty. Rice and peas light and fluffy. Extra hot sauce to dip the patties in has a nice kick. Service was excellent. Would highly recommend

I gotta say, I tried the new Veil Restaurant & Bar in Basildon and it was da bomb! I ordered the chicken and rice and it was hands down one of the best takeaways I've ever had. The food was fresh and packed with flavour, and it was still hot when I got it home. The owner, Ben, was super cool and welcoming, which made the experience even better. And the restaurant was clean and tidy, so you know they're on top of their game. If you're looking for some authentic West Indian and African grub, you gotta check out The Veil. It's new, so let's show 'em some love and support this local business!

Wonderful food, chef went all out to explain the different dishes and was genuinely pleased when he saw we had enjoyed the food he had recommended - will definitely come back. The only quibble was the annoying radio station playing in the background!

1st time for us tonight. The food was delicious and the goat curry was full of flavour. Lovely laid back atmosphere in a little family run business. The owners are lovely and made us feel so comfortable and had a good laugh too. Wil definately be going back soon. Highly recommend giving it a try

Was quite excited to try out an African themed hair salon as their pictures of cuts were impressive. I went in at the time they assured me they would be available and I had to wait for the barber to finish with his client. After 40 minutes of waiting and no communication, I was offered a burger (a very kind gesture) and declined as it would complicate things for them due to me being vegetarian. The barber then completely went off about my dietary 'needs' and disregarded my opinion as a vegetarian who is qualified in Nutrition and Personal Training. He then felt it was necessary to question the fact that I mentioned I was from Africa, referring to me being white and that white people in Africa do not 'struggle' . Honestly just felt disappointed in the whole experience and ended up walking out before even getting my hair cut. Don't know why the need for the verbal attack when I wanted to support a fellow African in the UK. I won't be returning.

We were visiting the UK and I needed a haircut. Ben gave me the best haircut I have had at a very reasonable price. I have tried to have others duplicate it in the US, without success. I highly recommend him.

I had a weave sewn in and it was the worst hair I’ve ever had! First of all, it’s too pricey and when I complained, I was made to look like I don’t know anything about hair! The hair pulled back after 2 days and I was made to look like I was bald!I should have known when the lady fixing the hair kept telling me to pull while she sewed that it was going to end up a disaster but I was made to know that I was having the best weave on cos of the price! And again, as I was leaving the guy made me look like a cheat as he thought I gave the cashier a wrong figure, he had to walk up and be like let’s see and when he realised I gave the right figure, he felt bad and offered cookies as I was about to leave. The 2 ladies in there were both very nice but I had the worst sewn in ever! I’ve learnt my lesson, never to go back there again!!!!
