The food was excellent I couldn’t fault it one bit but what really stood out to me was the staff. Our waiter, Brandon I believe his name is, was the nicest and most down to earth human I’ve ever met. He looked after us so well and deserves all the love in the world. Please visit this great establishment just to get to meet him.

So impressed with the tuck inn, the food was hot and so delicious. We visited on our first night staying in Edzell on our holiday and enjoyed it so much we visited again later that same week! The first time we had the fish supper, the fish was cooked perfectly with the right amount of batter coating the white flaky delight, my youngest son tried the pizza crunch and was extremely impressed with it! The second time I had the haggis supper which was very nice, my son had the mock chop which he really enjoyed too. I wish we lived closer so we could visit more often but coming from Bristol is a tad too far!!

We ordered two breaded fish suppers from home (Brechin) and collected when we got there. Just had to wait a couple of minutes. We took it home to Brechin and we’re delighted with our fish suppers. The fish were both huge and meaty, the chips were just perfection. Cooked to order and fresh as can be. Well done The Tuck Inn please keep the excellent standard up your doing great. We will be returning customers and we will be encouraging friends and family to do the same. Yes yes yes… a good local chippy at last.

Visited the Tuck Inn yesterday evening with my son for a chippy tea on our way through Edzell. The usual entrance up the side lane is now blocked off and there is only the front door for entry & exit - not great for distancing. Waited 20 mins in the queue (only 3 people in front of us), got to the counter and was told it would be a further 40 minute wait for a king rib supper & small fish supper! Don't get me wrong, I get the Covid regulations but this is just nonsense and the solution is surely very simple. Create a one-way system by opening the usual side lane for entry and have customers exit through the main shop front door. If it is really busy customers could be given a ticket with their order number and wait on the street until their order is ready and a member of staff can take it out to them. This is usually a very good chippy but like so many other businesses, attempted Covid protocols are just passed down to the customer as unnecessary delays and frustrations. We went to the chippy in Brechin instead and had our food in our hands within 10 mins of arriving.

A chippy tea from the Tuck Inn has been a great starter to our weekends camping for years but maybe no more. After a long wait (I understand covid restrictions may not help this but we didn't have this problem last year) we received tiny portions and my fish was overcooked and the chips weren't great either. Very disappointing.

Having ordered a fish supper, chicken goujon supper and a single steak pie. £20 seemed steep for a fish that clearly had suffered with Anorexia. The good thing was it came with a free game which was hunt the steak in the steak pie I literally found 3 pieces of “steak like substance” intertwined with gristle and it now adorns the plastic bin at the park where we parked to eat it. In fairness they did adhere to the covid guidelines I ordered from the car outside the shop waited half an hour and left with our “chippy tea”

I have become a regular diner at the Tuck Inn and always satisfied in the fullest sense with the experience. I am very suspicious of some recent low-rating reviews, because they completely contradict the experience of myself and friends who have returned. The "special" offerings have been taken on many occasions now and are just superb. The quality, quantity (you can request smaller portions) and presentation of the varied dishes are just amazing for a small establishment. I would confidently say that this place has the best food in the Angus area, and I have tried most restaurants ! I have no connection with this establishment except as a confirmed enthusiast.

Love coming to this place when I come over to visit and usually enjoy it but this time I was very disappointed in the quality of the food in the take out...my fish was extremely greasy and the chips were double fried. In the eat in area we had a good meal of Mac and cheese but salad was served in A CUP...!!!..we asked for a salad bowl and was told there were none. The atmosphere was blah and the poor waitress was NOT liking working there and I really don't blame her.The prices and ncy ideas with the dishes have really put this place in a bad place for reviews.Change it back to a family type place with normal food and on normal dishes.Prices are a little high as well.

Visited in afternoon for late lunch. New décor and layout is a lift from utilitarian past.Menu also big change from past - less an extension of the chippy and actually a restaurant that would compete with anything else in EdzellI had the soup and pie & chip (salad instead of peas) - absolutely superb. Well cooked and very tasty. Value for money too. At last there's another food outlet in Edzell. Good luck and wish you all the best.

Visited whilst on short holiday break staying in excellent B&B; nearby who recommended it. Food glorious, freshly prepared, well presented by pleasant and efficient staff. Noticed just how popular the take away part was too, and understandable when you saw the fish and chips being served. It is only a small restaurant but extremely good. Went a second time, and ordered a different dish. I thought it was for two, it was so large. I could only get through half of it, so my advice would be to make sure you bring your appetite when you visit as you won’t be disappointed. We would have made two further visits before we left for sure, but they are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays so we won’t have the opportunity. All round excellent service, staff and food!

We went in for a quick lunch and found it had been taken over again . Nice fresh decoration . I had a bowl of soup which at £4.95 was expensive . The soup was served in large tea cup and was nice but expensive for the amount . If Iam out for a meal Iam out to relax and one of my pet hates is someone taking my dishes away as soon as Iam finished. I had no sooner put down my spoon and it was whipped away and the same with my husband . Coffee and cake was ok . Would not rush back.

Lovely day at the excellent gala, fancied an ice cream so headed for the Tuck Inn as it has a good reputation. However most of the staff seem incapable of serving ice cream. Waited patiently with me grandson to be served by a female member of staff who wiped the counter twice but did not try to serve us. Then a young lady staff member came from the back of the shop and proceeded to serve people who came in well after us. Normally I would have kicked up a storm, but as my grandson was waiting with me I decided to leave quietly.

Booking was recommended, but at 14:45 on a Friday we were the only customers there, which made for a slight lack of atmosphere. That's the only criticism, the food was really tasty and certainly plenty. A nice balance between sweet and savoury and ongoing top ups of tea and coffee. Incredibly good value for under £6 compared to others we have had. Won't be the last one we have!!

Waited ages for ice cream today (which wasn’t a problem, it was a glorious day) and made it to the doorway just after 3.30 ish. There were 3 staff behind the counter serving customers as fast as they could when another older lady member of staff who had obviously just arrived for her shift came through from the cafe area and proceeded to talk to these staff like they were pieces of crap. Now maybe she was the new boss but If she was she needs to go back to boss school and learn how to speak to her staff members. How they didn’t walk out on her I have no idea and I can only congratulate them on holding their tongues. If I was spoken to at work in that way I’d take it to HR and the person responsible would have a reprimand placed on their record. Especially if, as she did, they did it to me in front of a line of customers!

Have been here several times before and always enjoyed the food, which is why I chose it recently for my birthday lunch. Every table was taken and the atmosphere was very jolly, including three old boys sharing crackers and wearing paper hats. The two of us chose from the regular menu rather than the pre-Christmas specials, but that caused no problem. I always go for the steak pie because it's so good, succulent meat and gravy with a piecrust just the right size and consistency for my liking, with beautifully cooked sprouts, carrots and mashed neeps, all very tasty. My companion had gammon steak and enjoyed a sizeable portion of lovely meat, with pineapple, nicely grilled tomato and peas; sadly she couldn't manage all her chips. The portion sizes are rather large for old ladies(!) but I asked for a small Christmas pud with brandy sauce and was given a perfect half-portion. White coffee comes ready-mixed in a metal pot which is not ideal if you want it either weak or strong, but perhaps this could be accommodated if a request was made before it came.

Found The Tuck Inn when travelling home from a holiday in Perthshire, searched for places to eat in Brechin and The Tuck Inn popped up. We could easily of missed the restaurant as the shop front is small and inconspicuious but so glad we didnt. Was an hour before closing time but our family were warmly welcomed by the pleasant staff. Although the premises are small there was a large varied chip shop style menu. My husband ordered steak with trimmings, our 4 yr old twins both had fish, chips and beans. I had scampi, chips and salad. We were delighted with our food, just what we needed to finish off our holidays. We also all had deserts which took us past closing time but our waitress (katie if I remember correctly) was friendly and accommodating and did not make us feel we were holding her back from closing. They also serve home bakes for high teas which we didnt experience this time but the couple (still eating as we left) highly rated too. Take away also available. If we are passing Edzell again we will definately be making a pitt stop at The Tuck Inn!

This is worth going into for the fish and chips and tea super. The meal was just great and cooked to order. The staff was happy and friendly. They had a good menu for a cafe and it was a very busy place.

Have never met less friendly staff in my life, were not greeted in he cafe so decided to leave after sitting waiting for about 10 minutes so decided to get chips to take away instead. The staff were clearly not interested in customers as we're not friendly in take away either. Our suppers had far too much salt on them and fat in fries needed changed as our food was covered in black specks. Decided against going back in for ice cream and went to spar shop instead.

This is a very good little restaurant cum cafe which has been on the go for a considerable period of time, testament to the fact that it has a good reputation and a loyal clientelle. It has an extensive and varied set menu, as well as a 'specials' blackboard. There is also a childrens' menu which has several different meals. Today, for a change, I had the chicken fillets with sweet chilli dip and salad, but I also recommend that you try the steak pie, or perhaps the haddock and chips, both excellent fare. The ice cream too is delicious. No, this isn't fine dining, nor does it pretend to be. It is good, hearty, freshly prepared food, served by friendly and welcoming staff. Well worth a visit.

This time on my trip to Scotland, I tried about nine different places for a sticky toffee pudding and there is only one place that tops it all.....The Tuck Inn at Edzell, not only are the staff very friendly and helpful, the food is out of this world, healthy helpings and plenty of choices but the best part is their sticky toffee pudding!!!!!

First of all you need to know that this isn't a fancy dining establishment, but neither is it a 'greasy spoon' - trust me on that, I look out for that sort of place as it's the best place to get a proper cooked breakfast. Well, so is The Tuck Inn. You won't get as much food on your breakfast plate anywhere else around here - well you might at the Stracathro Services but you may get more than you bargained for. We did. We've eaten at Tuck Inn a few times, usually for their breakfast but also for lunch or even takeaway from their chip shop counter out back. We've never been disappointed with the food and always been warmly welcomed there.Opening times are a bit limited compared to what you might be used to in a town, but this is the countryside and trade isn't as busy for these types of place. The chip shop is worth a visit if you can't sit down for a meal (or if they're full or nearly closed). And they seem to be very popular for ice creams on a sunny day - you'll find this place by looking for the queue on the street on a hot weekend.Give it a go for well made British staple meals and enjoy the clean surrounding - just don't expect it to be The Ritz (which is overrated anyway).

Myself and partner were staying in the area and popped in here for a light lunch. I think this is more what I would call a greasy spoon cafe, than a restaurant. We had an all day breakfast - soggy half Cooked bacon, half cooked mushrooms, over cooked egg. I had roast beef, it was overcooked , no pinkness at all and I suspect the roast potatoes were done in the deep fat fryer. We are traveling around Scotland and this place was a disappointment.

The Tuck Inn is a small cafe style restaurant but the atmosphere is family friendly and the food is delicious despite the cost being very generous

Went here on a Friday evening with some friends. Bring your own wine which is a bonus. Hubby and I had the fish and chips which are real fine and friends had the gammon steak and chicken. All the food was tasty. Not a big restaurant but somewhere to go if you want good home cooking.

We always visit The Tuck Inn when we are in that area. We have been on numerous occasions and we have never been disappointed. We went for High Tea on Sunday and once again the food was excellent.I had the Whitby Scampi and my husband had the battered haddock. The scampi was beautiful as was the fish. The chips and were lovely as was the coleslaw and the portion size was large. You pay extra for the high tea, which includes tea or coffee, toast,, a pancake and a cake. The pancake is served with lovely homemade jam which was tasty. In my opinion there was not really a good selection of cakes and certainly not as good as they used to be, we have been going there for years,Don't let the latter put you off as the food is excellent with a large choice of menu. I am a lover of cakes and get a wee bit disappointed if they are not totally yummy. We will be back there.

Food...meh! ok, Coffee...my first thought was stewed water! I think it was the end of a weak pot. At the till there was no "How was everything?" I think they knew, so I didn't say. Don't think I'll be back.

Gorgeous battered chicken fillets and a fresh fillet of fish. The service was superb and the quality of the food was second to none. We even managed to get a portion of scraps. Best fish and chips we’ve both had in a long time and reasonably priced in comparison to Aberdeen.

We arrived mid-afternoon and decided to go to the restaurant first as it would soon close. The restaurant was clean and the staff friendly and welcoming. There was a good selection of hot and cold food - we chose to have quiche and salad followed by a clotted cream scone. The food was delicious and the atmosphere pleasant and unhurried, despite being almost closing time.

When we arrived it was not busy and we were told to just choose a table. Having looked at the menu we waited to have our order taken. We, then, watched as four other tables, all having arrived after us, had their orders taken. After waiting almost 20 minutes and no-one approaching us, we got up and walked out. The staff just stood and watched us leave. We had been looking forward to our meal as have been frequent customers but will now seriously think about going elsewhere. Very disappointing.
