The Triton Inn in East Riding of Yorkshire

Despite the artefacts and decor around the restaurant, the meals were very poor. 4 of our party had steaks which were tasteless, accompanied by a watery 'sauce'. The smoked haddock was also swimming in a watery liquid. Very poor value.

Went with a group of 5 for Sunday lunch which was absolutely delicious. My only critique is that it’s a shame the Sunday lunches don’t come with cauliflower cheese. Whilst the service was good, they forgot to serve bread and we had to ask a couple of times for sauces. The portions are food value for money.

Quality, value and an experience. I think that's all anyone wants when they eat out. The Triton Inn has a traditional interior which reminded me of yesterday's almost forgotten...the suit of armour, the willow pattern plates, the porcelain napoleonic figurines...but don't let this homage to a bygone era fool you. The food is exceptional, magnificently presented and full of flavour and body. We had a bottle of wine, 2 starters, 2 mains and one dessert which came to £84....worth every penny. Superb is bandied about as a description all too often but if you are in the area I would wholeheartedly recommend a visit to The Triton. Make sure you book!!

Excellent food, great quality and generous portions. Attentive, friendly service that wasn’t too obtrusive. Really good value for money too. Can highly recommend this pub restaurant.

We had lunch here today. Can't compliment highly enough the service, quality of ingredients, prices, and portion sizes. When we first walked in, we thought they must have a 2-4-1 deal. It was packed. Was concerned what the quality would be like? We only had starters and a drink, we are not big eaters but this was such good food. A challenge to eat it all. The price for the quality- and top up coffee? Friendly and unbeatable.

Simply outstanding! Generous portions, lovely service, lovely atmosphere, a wide and varied menu, all in all eleven out of ten! (And my request for super runny custard was accommodated without question. And done to perfection ).

This is a lovely spot for a meal. Pre booked a table. As always quality food and good sized portions. The staff are welcoming and friendly . Will be back.

Not where you want to go for a drink, if you aren’t in for food the landlord makes it very clear you are not welcome to the point of being downright rude and offensive, I have eaten there in the past but never again, obnoxious

Had a great Sunday lunch at The Triton Inn, the food was delicious and the staff were very friendly. We enjoyed the banter with Lance and he provided excellent service. We will definitely return.

We popped in after a day at sledmere house. We hadn't booked so we were pleased when they found us a table. The staff were so friendly and welcoming. The food was delicious, proper portions, and piping hot. We had heard good things about this place before we went and it certainly did not disappoint. So glad we visited, we would definitely recommend it but probably best to book as it does seem to get busy.

We had an excellent Sunday lunch at the Triton yesterday as part of a party celebrating my brothers 70th birthday. My wife is in a wheel chair, and the disabled access to the main bar / restaurant at the Triton is excellent. Yesterdays meal however was in a function room at the front of the building which is accessed by a corridor including two steps. Initially this looked as if it may be a problem but the staff came up with the idea of opening the front door so we could go round and enter the building that way thus avoiding the steps. The table settings were quickly changed to facilitate my wife's wheelchair and nothing was too much hassle for the staff. The food at the Triton Inn and the staff are excellent. Highly recommended

Amazing pub, the most friendly welcoming atmosphere and the Sunday lunch was terrific. We visited with our puppy and had such a lovely time. If you’re in the area I couldn’t recommend this pub more!!

Brilliant pub, really good service quality food. We had chicken Kiev which was beautiful, home made and well cooked. The burger was the best I've ever had. Great desserts too.

A great pub. almost from a past age (its splendid motto is 'Unspoilt by progress') with a lot of variety on the menu, which is a long way from modern standard 'pub fare.' I had a very good Pork Diane, and my wife an equally good Smoked Haddock Mornay. The portions were very generous, the beer good and the welcome excellent.

As promised by family a friendly and welcoming pub/restaurant with an exceptional varied menu. Chose te pork medallions Diane and crème brûlée. wow.

Popped in her , thinking I would not have to book , well unlucky for us we should have booked . On walking in it was a full house , but lucky for us they had a no show ,.The pub was cosy , tables set out nicely , not too close to each other . I ordered the gammon , my husband ordered the pork , all I can say is the food was served hot & it was so very tasty , i know your thinking it was only gammon and Pork but it was all cooked to perfection and it tasted amazing ! Thank you so so much we will be back with friends ! This was the best bar meal we have ever had , & believe me we have had a lot of bar meals over the years . Thank you for the amazing service & wonderful chef !

My daughter had booked a table here for a family Sunday lunch which happened to be st Patrick’s day - we were greeted by friendly staff and shown to our table in the bar an drinks order was taken - after our food order was taken we weren’t waiting very long before we were brought our meals with separate vegetables and jugs of gravy - all our meals were absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection with not a single complaint :) puddings were scrumptious too - fantastic little pub - super friendly staff and the most delicious food what more do you want :D

My husband and I called in today just in the off chance after driving through the village. We didn’t think we would get a table as it was a lovely Sunday afternoon so we knew it would be busy. The second we walked through the door we were made so welcome, it was full but the staff found us a little table. Great menu, food came very fast and was absolutely delicious and very hot, they provided extra veg and gravy without us asking which seems rare these days so that was great. Drinks great. Pub was done out beautifully. We were so impressed and will definitely be back again with the kids too! How pubs used to be and how they should be. The two men at the bar were really accommodating and so helpful and has a great personality.

We went for our anniversary meal on Saturday lunchtime, the food was delicious, hot and beautifully presented. The staff were attentive and well informed of allergies as I’m coeliac. Our table was booked for 12.00 and by the time we left at 1.15 the place was full. Can not fault, we will be back

My husband and I had a fabulous lunch at this wonderful old pub in beautiful Sledmere in the heart of the Yorkshire Wolds. We enjoyed starters of black pudding stack and also garlic mushrooms. My better half then had a scrumptious steak and kidney pie and chips, which was truly Desperate Dan style. He was very happy. I enjoyed a lovely chicken breast stuffed with leeks, wrapped in bacon and with a beurre blanc sauce and with fab Jersey Royals. We shared a gorgeous plate of fresh vegetables. Good wine to accompany it all. Not cheap, but not extortionate at all and worth every penny. Highly recommended.

We have visited The Triton many times over the years and have always enjoyed ourselves. This is a lovely old inn with a welcoming feeling , your staff are kind and helpful. The menu is well varied , the food beautifully presented and always a pleasure to eat. The chef and kitchen staff are able to cater for dietary issues providing the diner with confidence. Thank you to you all for yet another delightful lunch!

we do call here for meals quite frequently, but never left a review, after today when four of us went we had to say what a fantastic place this is , food , service , ambience, all top notch , highly recommend

We were staying Sledmere to celebrate my husband’s birthday and booked for the two nights we were there. We were not disappointed. The food is really good, with very generous portions and is matched by the excellent, friendly service. My only gripe would be being charged £5.80 for a pint of lime and soda, more than a pint of beer.

We’ve been coming here years with family and it is always excellent. A wonderful team led by Tony, always providing great customer service and a friendly chat. The food is great and they are always accommodating with lots of gluten free choices which is usually hard to find in classic pubs. Definitely worth a visit Dog friendly in the bar area too :)

We have been visiting The Triton in Sledmere regularly for several years, but this time of the year is incredibly special. The whole of the interior is decked out with Christmas decorations. Clearly the Triton team have taken a lot of time and made heroic...

What a lovely experience, right from the start from lovely waiting on staff to the delicious Sunday lunch. The dressed crab starter was gorgeous as were the king prawn skewers, and the lovely thick slices of roast turkey and tasty beef accompanied by magnificent Yorkshire puddings and perfectly cooked veg. This is by far, the best Sunday Lunch we have had in a very long time. I rang up to book on Saturday evening (just before 11pm thinking the pub would still be open serving drinks), and the Landlord had to go back into the bar, could hear him switching alarms off etc and still never made to feel like I had rung at an inopportune moment (which clearly I had !).Anyway, booking was made for the very next day for 4 of us at 2pm.Offered a special main course of Steak & Ale Pie, which had obviously been very popular as they had run out by the time we got to order, but hey that's the nature of the 'Specials', so all 4 of us opted for Roast Beef Dinners - we were not disappointed. 2 thick slices of very tasty beef, plenty of veg, new and roast potatoes (a couple of us swapped the new potatoes for an extra Yorkshire Pudding - no problem), loads of gravy.Waitresses lovely and friendly, All in all, a very pleasant experience - highly recommended.

We were in the private room which was a really beautiful and relaxing place for a family gathering. The food was first rate with generous portions. The beer (wold top) was lovely and service friendly. It was a really enjoyable afternoon.

Having cycled around the Wolds all morning and found the locals pubs shut at lunchtime we decided to try here. We got the last free table. Absolutely no complaints from us. The staff were really pleasant and helpful and we had no trouble in deciding what to eat. What’s more the food was nicely presented and tasted great!

Where to start! You know you are onto a winner when you can actually call the place you are booking for and they answer in a cheery manner. Then you mention that you are a party of six, same day at very short notice and it is not a problem. From the minute we entered the Triton Inn we were greeted with a marvellous welcome by Sue. Lovely restaurant, lovely table, drinks served straight away (Taylors Landlord among others, fantastic!). We are already having banter with both Sue and Tony who along with John were brilliant fun all night. Service was impeccable and professional, and having one gluten intolerant among us, Sue went through every single element of the menu to explain which dishes were gluten free, which had traces and which could be made GF. Now to the food - dressed crab from Bridlington the best I have ever tasted – ever! Fish and chips, with fish so fresh and beautifully battered, all the other dishes freshly prepared and home made from scratch were all wonderful – they don’t do small, so make sure when you visit that you are good and hungry and you can look forward to a great experience from a team that clearly enjoys what they do, offering brilliant food, drink and hospitality – thank you all so much for a wonderful evening.

My parents booked a table for 8 of us to celebrate their joint 80th birthday and all I can say is - can we go again!?Even during these hard times the restaurant was buzzing and the service was friendly and efficient BUT the food................what can I say, every dish ordered was gobbled down and thoroughly enjoyed - all meals were beautifully and skillfully cooked and presented. I had the mozzarella and sun dried tomato stuffed chicken wrapped in streaky bacon with the best chips I've ever had. Very memorable indeed!As a person who is constantly watching the pennies - I will most certainly visit again and can highly recommend a visit if you are ever in the locality.

It’s a long time since I’ve been to The Triton Inn, however we weren’t disappointed, the food was excellent and very good value. I had the half duck which was lovely, off the bone with a lovely Cherry sauce . My wife had steak which was equally as good. The service was friendly and efficient.We will be back.

The menu was just right focussed on quality rather than quantity. The portions were a good size and the seafood salad big! Staff very pleasant and service prompt.

Food here isn't cheap ( based on the Sunday Menu ) but the portions were exceedingly generous, and the quality of the food was excellent. Very, very good value for money. The service was prompt, very attentive, but never intrusive, especially under Covid compliant conditions. We will most definitely be returning here in the future.

Me and my partner went for an early father's day meal with my dad and all three of us couldn't of been happier. My partner had the t-bone steak special and it was cooked perfectly, the sides where plentiful and lovely. I had the lamb shank which just fell off the bone it was so tender and juicy! The sauce was great and again lovely sides. My dad had the burger and luckily got the last one and I can see why it is so popular, it was juicy, tasty and he couldn't fault it at all! Then the desserts weren't just beautiful to look at but tasty as well! My dad said the coconut and pineapple cheesecake was the best he had ever had. The pavlova was great and the brownie too and not a tiny portion unlike so many other places. Will definitely be back

When we contacted the Triton Inn Sledmere at short notice to ask them if they could give us afternoon tea for friends and family following our mother’s funeral they immediately agreed even though it was outside their normal opening hours. When I called to see if all was OK they told me not to worry as everything would be OK and indeed it was. They gave us a room to ourselves with just the right kind of food and drink with discreet but helpful, efficient and friendly service. The whole experience helped to make an otherwise stressful day into a memorable one. We fully recommend The Triton Inn to anyone using the nearby Crematorium.

We recently stayed in Sledmere village and visited the Triton for two of the nights for dinner. The inn has taken all COVID precautions and feels safe and secure. The food, well it’s delicious and great homely meals. The portions are very generous indeed!!!The staff we friendly and attentive - both Tony & Sue were especially welcoming when we visited and obviously wanted their guest to feel welcome and enjoy the stay.Would recommend the Triton to anyone in the area! Booked ahead and found the Triton to be very well organised re covid, felt totally safe in the bar and restaurant. The food was beautiful, well cooked and very tasty, the staff are very friendly and efficient working very hard to make sure all the diners are looked after. My partner and I couldn't resist the desserts, creme brulee and ice cream and again they were very good. I recommend the Triton Inn and can't wait till our next visit.

We visited on a Sunday with some friends. We had 3 beef and 1 pork and the food was fantastic - great wines and dog friendly as well. Only downside is service is a bit poor (2nd time experiencing this)

Modest food in dull surroundings . V average food and not worth the long drive fr Bridlington . Clientele mostly aged couples and uninspiring menu . Distinctly spooky head sized Toby jugs stare at you . It recommended despite loads of positive reviews .

I worked in 5 * hotels and 3 rosette restaurants and this place takes over, quality, consistent, friendly, recognision, caring for your needs, personal touch, just mind blowing, been coming here for years and introducing my friends and family to the quality of food and service can be met in East Riding of Yorkshire, generous portions too!!regular, passing or just try out definatelly recommend to all, family friendly feels like home made food but with 5* quality

Knowing we were going to be a late back from a family visit we booked a table at the Triton for 6pm bank holiday Monday. I had both my children and although the pub was busy people were coming and going and being served. However, we waited and waited....after an hour we asked where the food was and an apologetic waiter explained it wasn’t ready. It’s was so disappointing as the children were hungry and had looked forward to a nice meal out. After watching several people get served who had arrived quite a bit later than us we decided it was better we left. On the way out the landlord had no apology and was aggressive towards me when I spoke to him about it. He left the waiting staff to apologise and exhibited a very laissez faire attitude towards it and just said what do you want me to do only book for two people. He then broke the conversation to speak to someone else! I can only assume not only is he a bad manager but has bad manners also. It’s a great shame as we have frequented the pub many times and have always enjoyed the meals there. An apology would have made all the difference.

The staff at The Triton Inn were so friendly. Unfortunately we got held up on the way to the pub and ended up arriving 45 minutes later than planned, and when we phoned them up to let them know they were so kind and understanding, and when we arrived we were very apologetic but they kept telling us not to worry. We had a lovely big table reserved for the 6 of us and the staff had left us space for the pram we had brought along.The precautions taken around coronavirus were exemplary. There were hand sanitising stations all throughout the restaurant, the staff left any cutlery/drinks at the end of the table for us to collect, and social distancing was easy to maintain.The food was absolutely delicious. I ordered a Stake and Ale pie and the meat was beautiful. The chips were probably the best chips I have ever eaten in my life.The menu is fairly limited but that is because it is an independent business and everything is home cooked, and there are specials available too. Absolutely brilliant and had we been staying near Driffield got longer we would definitely have visited again.

Arrived at 1.55pm with food closing at 2pm. A table was very kindly found for the three of us. Great food, great value what more could you want? Very highly recommended.

My family and I have been to Triton this afternoon for Sunday lunch.We have been several times before and this was our chosen place after restrictions were lifted and my parents could go out.The food and service was outstanding, we ordered starters and a Sunday dinner each and we were all stuffed afterwards.The staff were really friendly and attentive and the quality of our food was beautiful.We will be going back and will continue to support this pub/restaurant.

Went tonight for our 1st meal out after lock down. The food was lovely and the service was excellent. Good social distancing and all rules were kept to. Definitely would recommend. Well done.

The food was superb we all for starters , dressed crab, fry mushrooms , egg with prawns and goats cheese with beetroot which was all fab and tastes great , then we all got berf and Yorkshire puds which was all so fanstacic tasted really nice and the portions where huge you won't come out hungry then our little girl got strawberry pavola which was lovely, the service was ✔, every body was happy and the atmosphere was nice and relaxing and welcoming, Thank you

My first visit today. Had a lovely Sunday lunch. A warm welcome when we arrived. Shown promptly to our table. Food was served very swiftly. I had the roast beef. Well it was more like two steaks to be honest but was cooked just how I like it. The Yorkshire pud was hug and the veg perfect too. All served piping hot. The staff were all very pleasant and friendly. To my shame I forgot to tip so will have to return soon to address that. Well done Team Triton.

Beautiful drive across a stunning country landscape from the Scarborough road roundabout at Octon crematorium towards SledmereStaff friendly and charming. The Cream cake I had was homemade quality, delicious, Other food looked good. Cosy seating, A lovely intimate space to have drinks or a meal. From the back door in the car park of The Triton a disabled loo with flat access can be reached by turning right into the first room and at the room devide turn left. The door is facing you. The loo can also be accessed by going straight past the bar on the left up a step and turning right.

Lovely old style pub, very warm and welcoming visually although the gentleman that seated us was not the most welcoming on the day i visited, also we can hear in the restaurant when you are raising your voice at the staff (perhaps having a bad day).Food was gorgeous, I had the pie which was more than enough for two people and I have a really good appetite. Plenty of lovely vege. The chips, for me, were not great, very small and bitty and seemed like they had been reheated but I could be wrong. My mother had soup which she said was lovely. The other meals looked really nice.Table staff were very polite and friendly. I would like to come back and try the other meals but think I would want the pie again it was that good. Full of tender steak

Went there for lunch and dinner, both meals excellent. The atmosphere was as I remembered British inns being like when I left England in 1966. to be fair the food is much better now, but to me the atmosphere helps a lot in a restaurant. Being able to relax and enjoy the food and not be hurried because they need your table for the next sitting.

Proper food in a clean and welcoming setting. Portion size is large but of a high standard not the cheapest place to eat, but this is reflected in the quality of the food. Staff are friendly and nothing is too much trouble. 2nd visit in as many weeks will be returning!

Friendly place and a great location with plenty of parking , it’s good for a walk around sledmere gardens , the little dog is a great laugh and owner easy going Enjoy

We booked for Sunday lunch which is advisable as the pub was very busy. The menu simple but the food was tasty and well cooked. Very generous portions and for a reasonable price. The staff were friendly, helpful and attentive. An excellent Sunday lunch.

Been a long time coming and forgot how good this place was. Lovely open fire and great staff. The main course I chose off the special board. Braised beef and mash with loads of fresh veg was amazing and the gravy was to die for. Other half had the fish pie which was huge. We had the Irish liquor cheese cake for dessert but was slightly disappointing as just tasted of vanilla. But still tasted good . So all in all was a lovely night .

Visited as a group of friends and were disappointed with both food and service. Those who ordered roast pork found it tough, as were the Yorkshire puddings which we couldn’t cut through ! Having been earlier in the year and ordered and charged for half portions we did the same again. However, when the bill came we were charged full price. After complaining at the time the landlord was dismissive of our comments about the food saying “no one else here is complaining”, not the nicest response to valid points, nor would he move on the price. Had we not been so shocked we would have asked for the other half of our meals to take home for our dogs. We will not be returning.

The Triton is welcoming and feels like home from home, it has the appearance of a pub that is loved and cared for. It has history and is wonderfully removed from the chain pubs we are surrounded by. I would highly recommend visiting, if you want to restore your faith in our traditional English pubs.

Well again after visiting and visiting places we came to The Triton Inn and what a pleasant surprise the Food was consistently good as was the service the Staff very polite and friendly and very helpful they made us really relaxed and especially Fiona

We came accross this pub while staying in Helperthorpe for a few days. Both my patter and I are strict Vegetarian, we had had a bad experience the day before at a pub in a neighbouring villiage and decided that we would give this pub a chance.

My fathers favourite place to eat, the food is consistently good as is the service. A must try if you are in the area but advisable to book in advance.

We live a few miles from the Triton and frequently walk here. The service and food and drinks are always excellent. Bacon and Brie sandwiches, scampi, and homemade pie are favourite lunch mid walk treats. The local beer from Wold Top Brewery is also excellent.

The Triton Inn is a busy pub in an interesting area of Sledmere. It is advisable to book a table or you may have to wait, or even be disappointed. The food is varied, good quality, well presented and worth the wait.

We have been intending to have a meal at this renowned restaurant for a long time and so were friends of ours so decided to book a lunch for 4 people. On making the reservation, understanding their demands with being so popular, left time up to them and this was agreed for 1230, bearing in mind they had a 10 people reservation at 1300.

Booked the private dining room for my daughters 40th. Food was excellent as is usual for the Triton. The staff are pleasant and helpful. They go out of their way to make sure everything is perfect. The private room is perfect for a smaller party. The decor in this room is vintage with good soft lighting which gives the room a warm welcoming feel. There is a useful hatch to the bar meaning you do not have to walk through the main bar to buy drinks. There are good parking facilities. Been here on other occasions and I cannot fault it.

Invited by friends who have just relocated to the area for Sunday lunch. What a treat, great food served by really friendly staff. One of the best traditional Sunday lunch we have had and great value. Will definitely return.

This was our second visit to the Triton .We came with my sister inlaw as she lives near bye.Lovely welcome.The staff are friendly and cannot do enough for you. The food is excellent.Would recomend to everyone

We called in here for a cheeky Sunday lunch. Enquired to see if they did a gluten free option, and they did. This included home made gluten free Yorkshire puds and gravy. Great portions, beef was lovely and tender. Spoke to a lovely lady who worked there and she said they had lots of gluten free on their menu during the week. We will certainly be returning

We were made to feel uncomfortable when we ordered water. The waitress said “I hope you’re going to order drinks” there were 4 of us, we explained the two on water we’re driving. She said you could order soft drinks. Two of the party did order drinks but the two on water were made to feel guilty as they didn’t want to buy a soft drink. The food was good. We were sat chatting after our desserts and the waitress cleared the table. Our friend said could she have her glass back as she was going to have a drop more water. The waitress wasn’t impressed and didn’t give her the glass back but said we’re closing now as wer’re open again at 5.50 pm. We paid the bill and left.

The ambience at The Titon is warma dn welcoming. The food is first rate and reasonably priced and the staff are friendly and very helpful.

Excellent menu, lovely fresh food,helpful and pleasant staff. Food excellent,well presented and delicious, lovely atmosphere.

Decided to pop in to eat here after our visit to Sledmere House...their cafe was full. We were so glad we did! We experienced great food and fantastic hospitality. We will be back for the Sunday Lunch.

We visited the triton inn for a family meal. We rang to add another person on prior to our visit, they were so accommodating and squeezed the extra person in. We have visited many times and also stayed over, the rooms are lovely. The food never disappoints.

Visited on a midweek evening a couple of months back. Friendly staff. The chips came pre-salted. Awful. I don’t mind some salt, but I do prefer to put it on myself. I’m not sure why they would choose to salt someone’s food so liberally. Don’t think I’ll be back anytime soon.

I have nothing negative to say whatsoever. Food was delicious and great quality, service was fantastic all round. I had been looking forward to coming here for a while as I grew up in the area but my partner had never been - and I knew how good it was. He's a bit difficult to please but he was very very happy. All three courses were great and lovely atmosphere. Can't wait to go back!

A warm welcome and a roaring fire on a wet day in May. The menu is varied and offers good value for money. The service was outstanding.

Dropped in impromptu for a bite to eat after being told at Sledmere House that there was a 40 minute wait for food. The welcome from the landlord was superb. We were served drinks whilst the landlord asked that a table be found for us. Our drinks were then taken through to the restaurant for us - very un-pub like.

The Triton Inn had a good choice on the menu and also a specials board. We chose starters of Pate & black pudding stack both served with a lovely garnish & dressing, mains were Salmon & turkey& leek pie which was on the specials board served with vegetables & a choice of homemade chips or potatoes. The pie was very tasty with a puff pastry lid so was nice and light & my husband said the salmon was delicious. We were too full to sample desert so perhaps our next visit we'll skip starters and try puds instead. The waitress was very pleasant and helpful, food lovely and hot, and is worth a visit.

Booked Sunday lunch for wife and her mum. From arriving at 2pm, to leaving at 4pm the food and service were amazing.
