The Trident Fish Bar in Swindon

Stopped for a first time experience, usually avoid fish and chip shops that do kebab as well as I prefer full attention on quality of the prime product. Big portions of both fish and chips but sadly the batter was not cooked properly all the way through and was all squidgy inside both portions where it met the fish.

The chips were like thin and crispy couldn’t even eat them . I have ordered many of times from trident defo gone down hill . And won’t be ordering again not impressed at all

Thank you to the Trident for offering gluten free fish and chips two nights a week. For our son, this has brought a welcome addition to what would otherwise have never been a food he could enjoy. THANK YOU!

I used to go to this place for ages now. But now it's under new staff management. To be brutally honest, the new staff were not the best. There were constant arguments between the two; some were just talking too much and not focusing on their work. Fortunately, the food was still very good. Fish still crispy as usual. But despite it, the service is no longer that great. They are new here so I hope they improve in the future, otherwise I either hope the original staff members will return to working at the fish bar, otherwise this may be one of my last times coming here. Which will be a shame because this was my go-to place on a fish-n-chip Friday.

Very disappointed, I have been going to tridents for years now. It’s now under new management staff We’re not friendly not able to ring and pre-order so left outside in the cold. Chips were cold chewy and overcooked fish was flavourless chicken burger was also cold And dry. As a say I’ve been using them for years since being gluten-free and not had a problem. Fingers crossed the new people back up their ideas but I will not be rushing back disappointed waste of money.

Best chip shop in town! Huge cod! Always freshly cooked, fish battered whilst you wait, always have to wait for food to be cooked but most definitely not complaining as food is always amazing!

Perfect made to order fish and chips. The guys serving were really friendly and even gave us a couple of extras too for free. The food was delicious and we highly recommend you try this place out.

So, we visited this venue as the choice of fish & chip shop on the Sunday afternoon ,was somewhat limited. We was greeted by a friendly guy who assured me that the food was excellent….. and I have to say he wasn’t wrong! The meal was freshly cooked, the batter was crispy ( even after the car journey home) and the chips, defiantly will defeat you!

I've had a lot of terrible fish and chips on the south coast and somehow these guys far exceed the quality of F&C I've had there. You'll feel like Capt. Ahab as you wrestle with their huge fish. They're cooked to order. The place is spotless and the service is great. The guys always look pleased to see you and you always feel like a valued customer. No - they haven't paid me to give this review.

Myself ,my husband and teenage son just had a lovely home delivery from this place. Tasty food. Battered sausages yummy chips nice. Kabab nice so.worth a try.

Portions were very generous. Food was cooked when we ordered it so fresh and hot. The gents working were lovely, polite and friendly. Anywhere we could see was spotless so not surprised on the 5 star food rating. Obviously I was happy.

This is one of my favourite take aways. Tonight I had Haddock and chips. Chips were cooked just right and plenty off them. The Haddock was a good size chunky moist and covered in a crispy crunchy batter. 100% recommend this place.

October 15th, a Thursday, gluten free day, hooray! BUT none of the staff were wearing masks. How on earth are we ever going to be safe if food outlets, restaurants or take aways, are not insisting on staff wearing 'face coverings'? It's very sad to see people doing things wrong... It's OK for you to put yourself at risk. It's NOT OK to put ME at risk. I voted with my feet and went to a safer place for food.

Anyone that weites bad reviews on here should be banned from using TripAdvisor as they clearly have no idea of quality and great service. We will continue to be your customers for as long as it may continue. In fact we struggle not to come to you all the time. Everytime I drive past in my White Honda you notice us and wave and you are the kindest, friendliest people we have ever known from a takeaway restaurant. It's been a few years since we visited the Trident Fish Bar, and they have changed management since then. It used to be the only chippy we used, up until the previous owner left. We both ordered a large cod and chips - the large cod is cooked fresh to order, so there was a bit of a wait. Good stuff: they still use the cardboard boxes for fish & chips, although they do serve kebabs etc. in those awful, non-recyclable, non-biodegradeable trays. Well done for using cardboard and paper for fish & chips, though! There's still a large, varied menu, and we were asked if we wanted a fresh lemon wedge with our fish, which is a very nice touch. Our pieces of fish were a decent size, and they gave us plenty of chips.Not-so-good stuff: Unfortunately, the thick batter on the underside of the fish was very undercooked, soggy and sticky. This caused the fish to glue itself to the chips underneath, making it very messy and awkward to eat. We had to leave a lot of the batter because it was too sticky and gungy. Most of the fish was cooked through, although the thickest part of mine was still slightly raw so I had to leave that bit. Chips were chunky and plentiful, but some were a bit chewy - almost rubbery.It was OK, but could have been much better. It may have just been an "off night"; they were busy when we visited (early evening). We may have given it another try if we lived closer, but unfortunately the Trident isn't worth the 6-mile drive for us any more.

Stayed in Swindon for the night after a trip to Mcarthur Glen. We visited this chip shop because of its reviews and we wasnt disappointed. The chips was really nice and fresh. The Fish cake & Sausage was also cooked fresh. Highly recommend this place. Nice friendly staff

We live in Wootton Bassett about 5 miles away, but when we're in Swindon on a Wednesday or Thursday night and in the mood for fish & chips we make a visit - especially because my other half suffers from coeliac disease and must have hers gluten free.The food is always lovely and the (gluten free) curry sauce is fantastic!

I visited the Trident on several occasions when working in SwindonDo not be taken in by the lack of size the Trident serves up really great fish and chips. If you visit the fish is always cooked fresh while you wait and not served from a hot shelf. Chips are also cooked in small batches so chances are these are freshly cooked as well.Portion sizes are large and you need a monster appetite to eat a portion of chips. The batter is crisp and not overly oily and the chips are thick, crisp on the outside and soft in the centre. Absolute perfection.Staff are friendly and offer generous quantities of salt and vinegar without any prompting. The offer a wide range of kebabs, burgers and the usual chippie fare but I only ever had cod and chips. Why change a winning formula?They also sell a wide range of soft drinks at reasonable prices. While I waited there was a steady stream of Just Eat orders going out which indicates the popularity of this “chippie”I will definitely visit again as the fare is first class and very good value for money.

Have used the fish and chip shop a few times now, and every time, we have had fish and chips from there found them to be really good value. Found that the large is a bit to large, so have cut down to the normal size fish and chips. You can see all the fish and chips being cooked as you wait, excellent value.

Hemos pedido de Trident varias veces usando el servicio deliveroo, que ha sido excelente, rápido y amable (dentro de 30 a 40 minutos de pedir). No tener que encontrar estacionamiento es sobre faff una ventaja y hace demasiado práctico! Cada vez que ha sido entregado caliente y fresco y sencillamente deliciosa. La salsa tártara es mi favorita, resplandor justo lo suficiente para ir con el pescado. El bateador es ligero y fresco - no se siente grasosa. Buenas porciones. Sin duda será nuestra "fish and chips" de ahora.

Treated ourselves to fish & chips tonight and used Deliveroo. Can't fault it, still the great taste and amount, and now hassle free with home delivery. Arrived hot and well wrapped, forks included, what more do you need! One son had scampi, he says it is the best he has had and the other son had the chicken burger. Second son really happy with his choice and didn't complain of the mayo that was on his burger that's progress. Keep up the great work.

Both myself and my hubby are on a gluten free diet. I had been told by a colleague about the Thursday night gluten free at Trident so decided to give it a go tonight. We had large cod and chips and it was delicious. Tasty well cooked chips and lovely fish in a nice crispy batter. Will definitely order again and would definitely recommend it.

This meal was wonderful. The chips were just like we liked them to be as we don't like them brown and hard. Due to the owner frying your order while I waited, the tastiness of this experience, was mouth wateringly delicious. He told me about the gluten free night when he fries the fish without any gluten in it. My word, the taste, and the crispness and non-oily, it was divine. Don't bother about any other fish and chip restaurants, this is THE BEST ONE BY FAR.

We were in Swindon for theatre and on this bitterly cold night we went looking for Fish and Chips. We came across The Trident Fish Bar and asked we could stand inside to eat. The staff were fabulous and agreed to us standing at the counter in the corner. the food was freshly cooked, hot and tasty. This review is in a way a thank you to Trident Fish Bar on their food and customer service. Will go again when in Swindon.

Good quality Fish and Chips. Being cooked to order meant a 6-7 minute wait which in my opinion is time well spent knowing it's all fresh.

Have to admit, fish and chips is a downfall for me. The batter here is stunning, not greasy and very crispy whilst the fish remains tasty and moist. The best thing, they do gluten free on a Wednesday and Thursday - my normally 'I would know the difference' husband didn't have a clue. Served in boxes and wooden forks included - you could almost be at the seaside minus the seagulls. Keep up the excellent service, a great find.

Love this place, I have never had a bad meal from here and all available on Wednesday and Thursday Gluten free. The batter is crispy and the chips not at all oily. If you like curry sauce try their GF version, it's very tasty. While you are waiting for your freshly cooked to order food chat to the owner he is very friendly and always has a smile. The best ever f and c served with a smile - always. Before I was Coeliac I didn't find fish and chips worth eating but these are scrumptious. I took my son there not long ago he was over here from Germany and agreed they are the best!!

If you are looking for gastro fish and chips to eat at home then this is the place. the food quality is great for a takeaway , shame they don`t deliver as I would use a lot more so they need to pull there finger out there ! parking near there is a pain ! I watched as the food is prepped and cooked and it showed in the end result! I have only had the standard fish and chips which I think is very good quality and tasty.

We visit trident frequently either for chips for something we have made at home or to try the fish the chap in store is always friendly and all the food is cooked fresh in front of you it's rather yummy too !!

My boyfriend and I decided to try somewhere new after getting a mediocre fish and chips at our usual place when we last went.After seeing other positive Trip Advisor reviews, we decided to go to The Trident. We were not disappointed! The chips were the biggest chips we have ever seen, and were perfectly crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The cod was lovely and light, again with a perfectly crisp batter and was not at all greasy. The tartare sauce with delicious and the curry sauce got a thumbs up from my other half.We will definitely be back!

Diagnosed Coeliac in November 2015. So relieved to find a take out that does Gluten Free Thursday's, especially chips!! Love the food, service and price and always a warm welcome. Happy to travel from North Swindon to collect! Having a chuckle to myself reading the 'terrible' reviews especially the one slagging off Gluten Free. They clearly don't have a clue!! Would recommend Trident to everyone. Definitely a worthwhile visit. Can all week be gf please? Would anyone notice??!! :-)

Visiting friends in the area and wanted a quick bite. The fish was perfect, light crispy batter and fish tasted fresh. Chunky chips of equally excellent quality. Look forward to returning again.

My favourite place to eat fish and chips. My girlfriend is gluten intolerant and we eat here every week. At first didn't expect it to be anything special, because it's gluten free, but the fish is lush and the chips are cooked fresh. 10/10

Stopping over in Swindon we fancied a fish supper and having read other reviews we chose this little gem! Friendly welcome and food freshly cooked. The chips are chunky and fluffy and my daughter described the sausage as delicious. We opted for the small cod (not sure I'd call it small, in my local chippie this would be a large!) and fish bites (thinking they'd be small but were about a third of the size of the cod each!). The fish was perfectly cooked, and the batter was crisp and not too thick. The best fish & chips I've had in a long time, I thoroughly recommend the Trident fish bar!
