Would not recommend if you want to know what you are getting or the real cost. Despite living in the village we have never visited the town street tap and thought we would try it for a change. On walking in the prices on the boards displayed stated that a prosseco was £5.75 and large wine £6.75 for a Merlot and £7.80 for the most expensive wine (Malbec). We sat down and were served quickly ordering a glass of Prosecco and a house red (large). On finishing our drinks we asked for the bill - which was a gob smacking £15.35! We queried this and we’re told “the prices on the board are wrong, the tills are the right prices, sorry” we then asked for confirmation of each of the wines we’d had and were told that the prosseco was £6.95 and the house wine £8.40!!! Aghast and frankly disappointed that what was supposed to be a relaxing child free drink has turned into such a negative experience I questioned what wine had been used as the house wine - now, you can guess where this is going; the Malbec; the most expensive one! This practice is unusual to say the least and when queried the only response was “oh I just picked that because it’s the nicest one so thought you’d like it”. Buyer beware of misleading information on outdated pricing. The atmosphere was lacking but we put that down to Sunday late afternoon. Very disappointed.

Last Friday was the night before my friends wedding; some good friends had come over from the Netherlands for the wedding and wanted to experience some real British pubs. After a few different places we ended our night in the Town Street Tap - honestly couldn't have made a luckier or better find. The young man behind the bar (who was christened Beer Jesus in honor of his knowledge) was fantastic, incredibly enthusiastic and knowledgeable - and couldn't have given them a better intro to proper beer and a better impromptu stag night! Thank you for your knowledge, patience and making it an exceptional and memorable night! Highly recommended and will definitely be back :-)

02/09/2022 - Haven’t been in a long while so thought we’d enjoy a pint and some chips from the chippy over the road. First off chip shop was closed (our fault for not checking holidays but no mention locally) and then the first 2 drinks we asked for were not available and once we’d found something we could drink we asked about their scotch egg/snacks to be told again nothing available- It’s Friday night FFS get ready for some customers!!! I won’t be returning and will continue to drink elsewhere in the village.

Attended an Indian Food event which was very disappointing & badly thought out. Arrived an hour before the event & pleased you get the last table as they don’t take bookings. However instead of taking food orders you had to queue outside in the cold for the food. Gave up after half an hour. Great place for beers but feel that the event should have been so much better. One guy joined us at our table to eat his food and he said it was lukewarm with very limp soggy chips.

I had not visited anywhere that works quite the same way as The Town Street Tao before and I have to confess that I was a little wary of the concept. For those that have not visited, you find your seat/table if you can and peruse the beer menu on the wall / beam. The waiter then comes to take your order - hence my initial panic regards how long it could take to get a drink and whether the staff would notice when I was approaching the bottom again. I don't recall the young man's name but he was quite new to the position and was a natural - engaging us in conversation and offering recommendations regards the available beers etc. Also, my fears were quickly abated as the excellent level of service meant that we had soon had 4 drinks rather than the 3 we might have otherwise had - not that there was any form of pressure at any time. All round great experience and well worth multiple return visits. As well as their own ales it was also good to see the local Darley Abbey Cider on sale here.

A fine place to call in for a no frills experience. Choose from a menu of like cal artisan beers, ciders, wines and bar snacks (when available). Not a traditional pub. More like a quick beverage in someone’s front room. Can lack for atmosphere a bit and last visit an arrogant little cal shouted at the friendly bar barmaid for daring to enquire about the age of his companion. But then Duffield does have more than its share of these types.....Interestng culture ncept bar. Not cheap but an interesting alternative to the pub....

Drink selection and staff were great. What let this place down was reading it was table service and arriving on a Weds eve to find all tables taken. Unclear what to do now so spent some time stood in middle of room until served. Lots of customers saving seats with their bags and making no attempts to budge up or make us welcome. Also several customers were eating chips, fish, curry from across the road. Smelt nice but was over powering. A man on crutches came in after us and was also ignored re seating but he left again immediately. Nice place, less nice customers. :(

We arrived 10 minutes before our table was booked and we were shown straight to our table which was lovely. We were given menus and shortly after, asked what we would like to drink. I was very happy, as the prices of the drinks, I believe, were pretty good, as added in the photos. I may add our seats ever very comfy and we had a lovey view. We were served our drinks and asked what we would like for starters and mains. All of the staff were very friendly and attentive. When the starter arrived, along side our child’s meal (as requested ), we were blown away. Delicious. The Han hock croquettes were so moreish. And the child’s meal was so beautiful I could have eaten myself. We then received our mains, of which we can hardly fault. Everything was really lovely and tasty, Our only complaint (and it is very minor)… my husband ordered the beef rib, of which he didn’t get a choice of how it was cooked. Although it was still lovely, there was many plates of food being bought out more to it liking (more rate) his meat was more well done rather than his preferred rare/medium rare). Other people’s meals looked much more pink, which he would have enjoyed much more. We also had desert, which all went down a treat. This place is a real hidden gem. We alll really enjoyed our meals, and will certainly be back again soon
