Very friendly local pub with nice footpaths along the canal and river nearby, carvery looked and smelled amazing proper home cooked food.

Really good carvery and friendly staff

We stayed in Lower Hartshay in October. Our visit would not have been complete without a few visits to The George Inn. A very warm and friendly welcome. Sunday lunch is spot on. Also worth knowing that dogs are more than welcome inside the pub, apart from dining times. Which I feel is totally acceptable. However there is a garden area where you can eat your food with you're four legged friends. Which was ideal for us. Can't wait to go back

A fabulous Sunday carvery served in a proper English pub. Really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. The staff were very friendly. I can't fault this place at all!

We will definitely be going there again. The Sunday Carvery is cooked like your own and with thick gravy made from juices of the meat. Roast Potatoes are excellent. We could go on but just try it. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Home from Home. Delish!

Fantastic home-cooked Sunday lunch in a lovely, friendly country pub. The meats were beautifully cooked and you get loads on your plate. The veg is freshly cooked and plenty of it too. 2 carveries, a beer and a gin for £26, fab value these days. Highly recommended 👌 👍

Excellent pub, Sunday lunches are perfect.

Myself & my large extended family went for Sunday lunch whilst we were on a family holiday in the local area. We booked because the reviews were so good. Well, we were not disappointed. The proprietors, Lynn & Phil, were so accommodating and helpful, especially as we were a large group of 9 adults, 4 children & a baby. The pub was very clean, parking was easy & there were 3 swings in their pub garden that the children enjoyed using. The Sunday carvery meal was fab and tasty. We enjoyed our meal & time there so much, that we returned later in that same week. We are returning to the local area next Summer & will be booking in with Lynn and Phil- if they’ll have us! 😆👍

Had 2 lovely carverys here, Lynn was extremely welcoming and helpful even supplying my 7yo with salad cream for her roast and then remembering it the 2nd time. The meat was lovely and you got such a lot of it. Would definitely recommend, and if we go back next year this is definitely our Sunday lunch booking.

Very good quality and excellent value for money. 5 big stars............. Left this review last year been back again today Sunday 16th August food and beer fantastic. Bought home an extra dinner for tomorrow. Eaten far too much food. Proper stuffed with good food. Highly recommended. Five huge stars

I have visited this pub previously and it was good food and beer. Visited several times at differing times no signs to suggest when and if it ever opens. A strange way to run a business.

Visited for a friends birthday Sunday Lunch. This place is a gem. Don't expect your food on slates, your drinks with neon lights attached or uber trendy people serving you when they think you deserve it. This is a genuine proper pub. Lovely people will attend to your drinks and food needs. The drinks are as you would want in a real pub and the food is excellent. Proper food, cooked properly by real people. I cannot wait to go back

Sunday carvery was absolutely delicious, roast beef melted in the mouth, vegetables cooked to perfection. Toffee crunch dessert was a great way to end a fabulous Sunday lunchtime.

Yo estaba con un grupo del ciclo de Motor Club Vintage y llamamos esta tarde después de un paseo por el distrito Peak.El propietario y la dueña era muy agradable y nos hizo sentir muy bienvenidos.Sin duda volveremos y pssibly vienen de asados del domingo que he oído son muy bonitas.

Después de buscar por un verdadero asados, este fue uno de los pocos bares que ofrecían, y por suerte, recibe excelentes críticas en Tripadvisor.Bien, rebotaba en los comentarios anteriores, llegamos a 1. 30 Un almuerzo el domingo, esperaba que estuviera demasiado ocupado para nosotros (un grupo de cuatro), pero no es así. Una mesa fue encontrado rápido para nosotros, y nos dijeron que podíamos ir a la rotisería tan pronto como estábamos listos. Una breve digresión aquí, el personal era muy acogedor y amable, el pub en sí estaba limpio, ordenado, acogedor y un fantástico ambiente. Para probar cervezas amorosa que son nuevos para mí fui enseguida por el que fue para mí -newe excelente. El carvery era justo eso, justo lo que queríamos, como selección de asados, ternera, pavo y cerdo, dos de nosotros tuvimos la carne, dos, el de Turquía. Mi esposa dejó algunas de sus carne como ella no podía cortar, la mía era sabrosa, pero un poco duro, nada que me quejaría. El supuestamente bueno. turquía Las zanahorias eran un poco exageradas, la col era perfecto y la tía Betties eran yorkshires, la salsa excelente. El precio fue excelente. En general, yo volvería.

Warm friendly traditional pub, serving a lovely wholesome Sunday lunch. Well worth a visit but would advise you book as they seem to get very busy.

Visited today with family including three children. The carvery was delicious... 3 choices of meats and generous servings... Limited choice of veg and trimmings but had everything I would've chosen anyway! Staff very attentive and excellent value for money. Would definitely visit again.

Great little carvery on Sunday lunch times. The staff are friendly and you get a good old lunch for a fair price. Look out though as last time I went it was cash only so be prepared.

Es un año y medio desde que visitamos la George Inn y el asador domingo almuerzo como excelente ahora como lo fue entonces. Una selección de carne de cerdo o de pavo asado, servido con budín de Yorkshire, relleno, asado y patatas, col, zanahorias, guisantes y una salsa muy sabrosa hecha por el jugo de los asados. Todo es fresco y muy bien cocinado. Una buena selección de postres si tienes espacio para uno. Altamente recomendado para un delicioso almuerzo de domingo. El propietario y el personal es muy amable y el servicio es excelente. Es porque debe este es un popular lugar para comer.

Mientras viaja a través de la zona decidimos desviar fuera de la carretera principal para visitar el George Inn.

En resumen ... pub tradicional encantador con un asador casero fantástica. Pequeño pero perfecto. Reserva es recomendable y sólo pueden llevar dinero en efectivo.

This is a real traditional British pub. lovely friendly people. The carvery is really good. The pub is tucked away so some people will miss it but once you have found it and tried the food you will go back.

Its not a bad little carvery, really diddy infact sqeezed into a corner of the pub. tasted great tbf. 3 choice of meats etc only thing that lets it down was only 2 veg. Carrots and cabbage. definately needs more veg. Its ok if ur just looking for somewhere local as it saved us the trip towards matlock where there are a number of carverys scatterd about. Need to book as gets busy and not sure how big the second room is. May visit again

What a great find. Fish and chips cooked to perfection. Have to taste to understand how nice. Well worth a visit. Wow.

Being local to the area we are always on the lookout for new places to dine. We have two fabulous pubs with The Excavator at Buckland Hollow and The Black Boy at Heage close to where we live. So pleased we saw the sign board on the A610 recently advertising the George Inn at Lower Hartsay. A lovely little pub in a quiet location that is well worth seeking out. The Sunday carvery is excellent. Three choices of meat, beef, turkey and pork, everything perfectly home cooked and presented... roast potatoes, new potatoes, carrots, cabbage, stuffing and Yorkshire puddings. Oh and a fabulously tasty gravy. Extensive desserts board too. They do two sittings, one at 12 noon and the other at 2.30 pm. Booking advisable. We now have three excellent pubs on our list of places to have a lovely Sunday roast dinner. Highly recommended and we will certainly visit again.

The George is hidden just off the a610 close to the Excavator but unlike this rival, the George offers real food in a real atmosphere. Well run with lovely fresh hot food. Big thumbs up from me!

The George Inn never disappoints! I have been going here for years and the food is always lovely! The cozy atmospheric pub offers a beautiful carvery with a range of freshly cooked meats! Also on offer is home cooked stuffing, perfectly cooked fresh vegetables! The roast potatoes are to die for! (Also home cooked). On top of this there are tasty new potatoes and yorkshire puddings! The best part for me is the gravy! The service is excellent and we are always feel at home! They cater for all needs including vegetarians! I would recommend booking as it often very busy, however walk-ins are welcome! A lovely little little pub! Would highly recommend to anyone who wants good food!

Late on bank holiday Sunday visited George's. restaurant had been busy from bank holiday but we has good service and the food was consistently good. Been a few times at quiet times in the week,
