Great place for meeting family. Loads of parking nearby, free on street on Sundays. Free in nearby car parks any day. Had the set breakfast, two eggs, two sausage, two bacon, beans and a soft roll. £6.00 with a pot of tea or a glass of orange. Staff are really friendly and helpful, some have been there from previous visits, so must be a good boss. Also has rooms but never stayed as we are locals.

We won't be returning, there were just too many things that have put us off. Very unfriendly welcome, to being seated right next to the lift where hotel guests were coming in and out (yes, we should have said something, but there should never have been a table put there). As for the food, who thought it would be a good idea to smother the loaded fries in loads and loads of cheese sauce (was supposed to be cheese) that was the most awful thing to keep eating. As for the Townhouse salad, how can they even call it a salad and charge those prices. Was literally small portions spooned on the plate of what ever was in the fridge with chips and your chosen salad (my child is far more creative with food). Then there's the scampi, where they put the chips and the barely cooked bullet peas in separate dishes, but all it did was make it look like very little and certainly wasn't worth the money paid. My teenaged child ordered a reduced portion as they wanted to get a pudding. However, they were so disappointed in their meal where a lot of it was left and they were then never going to order anything else. It costs a lot of money going out for a meal and we will happily pay a bit more if we know we're going to enjoy our meal. The Townhouse was a huge disappointment, not recommended.

Well, actually we never got to go. Booked a table via their partner OpenTable. Gave us options for times to go and we chose 8:30pm as this suited the party due to work commitments. We have family up from Wales for the weekend and we have heard good things about the restaurant. We booked this on the 31st May. 9 days ago. Got a text and email on Friday, 7th June, asking us to confirm the booking (for 8 people and a baby). We replied to both saying we are going there. An hour and half before we are due to leave/sit down at the restaurant we get a phone call saying there is some confusion with the booking and that they don't do food after 8pm. So why accept the booking? And why leave it until Saturday evening to make contact with the customer?! That is absolutely shocking customer service. How have they NOT noticed this booking until now? How/Why are they only letting us know now?! Was really looking forward to the night out. But one phone call has really ruined my families weekend due to lacklustre service.

Couple of small things let it down The room we were in the Wi-Fi was poor. Couldn’t run fire stick possibly tv was too old to process no glasses but easily got from the bar. Location is very good near car park and other pubs bars and shops. Would definitely go back

Stopped here overnight as there isn't a lot of choice for accomodation in the town. The first piece of disappointment on arrival was the hotel had no parking. Outside on the street was limited to 30 minutes during the day and as it is a one way system you can go round in circles looking for somewhere to leave your car.My second irritation came when I was approach by member of staff to say that the credit card that I had used to book the room with through a 3rd party vendor wasn't taken at the hotel and I would have to go get another card to leave details for security. The inference being that I might leave without paying. I ignored it and didn't provide an alternative. They got their payment when we left. The room was tiny, double bed, wardrobe dressing table with stool below and a television. Not much room for anything else, not even a chair. It did have an ensuite. The room itself was very warm and had no air conditioning. The furniture was also tired. Ring marks and chips. We had a chuckle when found packets of ear defenders provided and a note to say they were having problems with noisy gulls. The chuckles soon faded when they started squawking around 3am and didn't stop. We're talking a whole colony of them. You couldn't sleep through it and it went on for hours. The excessively warm room didn't help as we'd left the windows open hoping for some cool sea air. No cool air to be had just an aural assault in the middle of the night. There was no sleep to be had due to the heat discomfort and noise pollution.Breakfast was also a bit disappointing. There were 2 cereals, some form of cornflakes and another we couldn't identify. The orange juice had run out and had to ask for refill. There was no butter left for toast and had to ask for resupply. I understand the things run out but this was only 20 minutes into breakfast and there were only 10 other people in the restaurant. The cooked breakfast choices were varied so there should be something there for most people. My wife asked for porridge, which they didn't do. This is Scotland, porridge is a national staple. A chef could easily make some from oatmeal in 5 minutes. The cooked breakfast we had was fine. Nothing wrong with it, but nothing to write home about either.I don't like like being completely negative in a review but I struggle to find anything to commend at this establishment, apart from maybe some of the staff. At just shy of £100 for bed and breakfast it was overpriced and certainly not value for money.I have stayed at hotels and B&B's all over the country and usually strive to leave a fair unbiased review. On occasion I have put counter positive comments if I felt a review was unfair, this however has been my worst experience to date and I have nothing positive to say, sorry.

So, after his very aggressive behaviour, showed us to a table and said he had “Solved my problem”! However, I was so perturbed by his attitude.. it continued..he ruined our evening.. we stayed, only because we had a theatre appointment in 1 hours time. Was in for breakfast on a Saturday morning. Only had 45mins as our daughter was in a dancing class. Went in didn't seem busy at all only 2 tables with customers that we could see and there was also a table with customers down the back. 2 waiting staff should cope easily! Waited more than you would expect to place an order and when we did order it was two breakfasts and two lattes. Nothing complicated. Bfast's came and both had finished and they were nice enough bar the haggis which was terrible! Which should never be the case in Scotland in my opinion.that being said not bad enough to leave a bad review.this review was left because of the service went up to pay with a really dry mouth due to the lack of drinks.we we're sat in the restaurant for over 35mins and that wasn't enough time to make two lattes apparently. The excuse that was given was there was a table of 7 in! Lol the kitchen staff were coping fine. A table of 3 came in after us and left because of the service before receiving anything. The woman that seemed to be the manager in my opinion was the route of the problem so didn't even ask to speak to the manager.

We liked the sound of that so went in sat down, ordered drinks and said we'd like the fajitas offer to be told it doesn't start til 4.30pm. Why have the board outside at lunchtime then? Felt awkward as we already had drinks so ordered them at full price but felt very misled. I have given The Town House five stars, not because it is a place of gastronomic excellence, but because it offers a good choice ‘non-traditional’ food in an area not renowned for it. It does not matter how long that you have been away from Arbroath, whenever you return you will find that you have never seemingly left it – for it is still 1978 - restaurants with tartan carpets/curtains/table cloths and with the atmosphere of a funeral parlour, serving mince & tatties/steak pie & chips/scampi & chips/chips & chips, perhaps with tattie soup, and for the more exotically minded – prawn cocktail. The meat and vegetables of course being cooked to within a millimetre of their existence. The menu has a modern twist, however still contains elements which will appeal to the more traditional Scottish palates. My chicken dish was cooked perfectly, being lovely and moist. The service was good, and there was a warm atmospheric buzz to it associated with it being very busy early on a Friday evening, with diners of all ages. Usually when I leave a restaurant locally I am disappointed by the food, general atmosphere and or service, however, in the case of The Town House, I left thinking that I had had an enjoyable experience. I will be back.

It's family friendly and has a varied kids menu however it's pretty expensive. The food is very good and the portions are a really good size. The toilets aren't the most practical as they are up steep stairs although there is 1 rather small disabled one on the restuarant level. Our waiter was very friendly but some staff were bordering on rude as children and big parties do generate noise. Prices and some practicality aside its a good location very clean and well kept and all in all a mostly pleasant experience.

I had the vegetable stroganoff, my husband had the chicken curry and my son had cheese and tomato pizza. All were tasty and well presented. Service was also good and our waitress was very friendly. Overall all we were happy with the quality of food on offer and would have no hesitation in returning.

First visit to the Town House. Décor is modern. Service prompt. Food okay but meat + vegetables lukewarm. Once served no follow up to ask if meal was okay. Disappointed.

Visited today for a friends birthday. Waited for 40 minutes for food order to be taken. When spoke to a staff member she thought we were waiting for another person to join us although I told the staff member that served the drinks that the other person wasn't coming. Starters were lovely. However the main course was awful, haddock and chips. The fish was the size of a tiddler and fried within an inch of its life. There was a handful of chips and some peas. I really don't know why a qualified chef would let this leave their kitchen. Embarrassment! When I eventually caught the servers attention she was very apologetic and asked if I would like something else, which I didn't take as my friends had almost finished their meals . for the main course alone it was priced between £8- £10, which I did not pay for. I have visited this place many times but this visit has certainly put me off. Didn't appear to be enough staff, there was a large party for a wedding anniversary in, although they were expecting us as we had booked the table a week before this visit.

Booked a table for 12 for a birthday celebration then upped it to 16. On the day we were told we could not be seated together and would be at two separate tables. It's a pity we hadn't been informed of this when we upped our booking as this was not very convenient and would have booked elsewhere.Service started off well enough but as the night progressed the waitress was struggling. Drinks and food ordered were forgotten on a couple of occasions. On a plus side the food was very nice.

Very good quality hotel and restaurant. Very pleasant staff. Warm comfortable rooms with free wi-fi throughout. Great breakfast and good range of food on the menu. Only wish they had a better selection of beers on tap. Limited parking on street at front of hotel.

Went for a carvery meal (roast beef). Waitress was very pleasant and didn't take long to be served. The roast beef and trimmings was of a good portion but most of it was just luke warm except the roasters and gravy. The meal was ok and I scoffed the lot.I was slightly surprised at the Bill though £12..95 for the carvery and £2.80 for a glass of coke.(although I believe you can get refills ...but we were never asked if we wanted a refill)Never were we asked if the meal was ok either.

The food was good, the waiter is great but the 2 lady's behind the bar.... full arrogant and never smail... avoid them!! The steak was OK... starter acceptable but all my meal was ruined by the ladies behind the bar... you lost a client and I suggest to do not go here if they are working!! Again my compliment to the table staff and go for James he is nice and caring person...

Stayed a few times at this lovely hotel. Always Brilliant!! Nothing ever too much trouble. Only sad don't stay anymore as my son now lives in Arbroath, however, a visit is always a must to their wonderful restaurant. Extensive menu & great quality food served with friendly staff. Won't break the bank either!! Can't wait to visit again.

We popped in for my birthday and had dinner which was just great. You always get a warm welcome and the staff are great! The variety on the menu is very good with some really good dishes. The Thursday fajita night is perfect and we will continue to go to this restaurant.

The Townhouse restaurant, unlike some other local eating places, seems to have struck the right level of consistency with their service and the standard of food.I have tasted about 30% of their menu and have not been disappointed. It is not "a la carte", but good food, well presented and of a high standard.

food OK and a nice place to meet up. Ambiance good but food doesn't hold any surprises and thought overpriced for what we had.

Terrible, don't go unless you don't mind it being dirty and leaving smelling like a chip pan. The picnic table, bench, floor, skirting boards were filthy and there was a blue haze around open plan kitchen. Extractor fans were not in use, we left reeking of fat. Our meals were terrible and the server looked like she'd just walked in off the streets, leggings in socks, trainers and a black hoody. When it originally opened,2020, it had so much promise.

Packed on the day of our visit and we had probably the last table. Food was excellent quality and service was very friendly if s we’d bit haphazard at times. Part of meal arrived late and incomplete but overall very good

Never have we been to a hotel with such friendly welcoming staff. Everyone we met showed us the greatest hospitality. Nothing was too much trouble. We ate in the restaurant on both nights of our stay and enjoyed the food and again the friendly attitude of the staff. Breakfast was varied with a choice of hot dishes including Arbroath smokies. Our room was spacious and warm with a view over the green. We will certainly return if we visit Montrose again. The birdwatching was good too!

Great, understated restaurant. The soup was a very generous portion and very tasty. Also lived the lemon and blueberry sponge.
