The Tower Fish Bar in Dumfries & Galloway

Well what can I say! I have in all my years never had such a poor quality fish supper - the taste was absolutely disgusting even my dog wouldnt eat it - . I only had Fish and chips here because Starfish was closed - they are amazing always consistent good food and great value for money - This Tower fish bar was very expensive for something that went in the bin. NEVER AGAIN.

Visited here as The Starfish(THE BEST CHIPPY IN LOCKERBIE) was closed due to family holiday. I can honestly say this is the worst fish and chips ever .... along with the Commonwealth chippy that has just recently opened. Go to the Starfish ..... don't waste your money on the tower fish bar or commonwealth chippies,

Called and ordered 2 fish suppers this evening, they were being freshly cooked when I arrived and were quite simply…..DELICIOUS 😊 Fresh fish perfectly cooked with wonderful chips ….. BEST fish supper for a very long while - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED ✅🙏

I am currently visiting Lockerbie for work and thought i'd treat myself to a local chippy. I wish I hadn't! I got a pizza supper with a tub of curry sauce. The grease was dripping all over my hands and the toppings were falling off the pizza. I have never had a supper like it! I did ask for garlic mushrooms but after checking the freezer he said there were none. Obviously not made fresh then. Even the curry sauce was in the fridge and heated in the microwave! A total waste of money. I would NOT recommend.

We were looking forward to a fish and chip treat but wanting keep the calories down if possible. Solution, half size chip and at a reduced price. Brill. The freshly cooked food was piping hot, crispy and tasty. Thank you.

I fully agree with the review left by stevepF9667SD below. The Fish & Chips here are the worst I've ever had (and I couldn't stomach eating more than a quarter of mine!) The fish was very small, in places it was browner than the batter. I've no idea what they cook with but the fish we had smelled odd. I'm not even sure what it was but it didn't look like Cod or Haddock. The management/staff need to take a trip to Moore's in Castle Douglas ; to find out what Fish & Chips should smell, taste and look like!! In summary expensive small portion of 'fish', not sure what fish it was, chips and batter undercooked. Truly awful waste of money. Dog ate most of the 'fish'. Should've taken a picture.

Great local chippy, huge portions great prices, can get some bang on Scottish delicacies, easy to find, would recommend

Always call here on the way up/down to/from Scotland,had the grandkids & daughter with me this time,I had a fish supper which was superb & the daughter had gravy & chips which probably was the nicest gravy I’ve ever tasted ..be calling again in august

AT 65 years of age I can honestly hand on heart say "Truly the most awful fish and chips EVER" Two fish suppers with little change from £20 for, wrapped rapidly so as to hide what we were getting , meanly dusted with salt and a splash of vinegar. On unwrapping back in the car we found the fish batter to be dry, good start we naively thought. The fish had been reheated, that way the batter was dry, the fish itself , yellow in colour , srunk back from the batter with that oh so delicious taste of DRY CARDBOARD. Discarding the fish ( about £7;worth each) we moved hungrily to the chips, greasy, cold and FIRM in the middle, over the whole meal despite being asked if we wanted salt and vinegar it was absent, not even the meanest hint of it Total waste of £18.70 So please, if you're thinking about buying from here If you want fish and chips DON'T just DON'T - buy from here a total waste of money ! The cardboard and uncooked cold greasy potatoe sticks come highly recommended!

We showed up (unwittingly) right at closing time and ordered four full meals, haggis, fish and chips (mine), chicken, mozzarella sticks, and a pasty. Just casually looking for something to occupy stomach space until we got back on the road. This was the GREATEST food either of us had eaten (again we’re Americans) in a very long time and are all still talking about it nearly a week later. We were about to return to the store to share our appreciation with the staff when we noticed them locking up and leaving for the day. It’s depressing to think that I an likely to never experience this restaurant again as we return home in two days.

Went here for a fish supper and a single fish for my neighbour. i vomited all night after it. My friend phoned me. she had vomited too. as she did not have the chips, it just had to be the fish! Never again!

Awful chippy, I had a sausage supper and the husband had a fish supper. Tasted musty, struggled to eat 1 of the sausages and about 5 chips, husband said the fish batter was soggy. Unwelcoming staff. Save your money and go to the chippy at the town nearby beginning with ‘M’! Actually, I’ll even write them a 5 star review right now!

Unfortunately had not read the reviews - and were just passing through. Next time we will pass by. Were hopeful as waited for a fry to finish and the place looks fine. However batter soggy and chips dry :(

Went in a couple of month ago and the fish and chips were just awful. The fish was just greasy and soggy and just tasted awful. The chips tasted as if they were sitting around all day. However I did eat some of it and so did my little girl and the next day we both were ill for a few days because of this. Tried again a couple of weeks ago, again fish and chips were awful. Took one taste and look of them and threw them away and made my own dinner. Waste of £15. Honestly listen to the bad reviews for this place because they are 100% honest. I won’t go back here again! Even when I was in the queue waiting there was a couple passing by and even he started ranting about how can this place still be open, I can certainly see his point now.

Bought 2 fish suppers & mushy peas. Very tasty but could be better served-especially when you have peas in a tub and all in a small box... only other criticism-I’m not 5... so a decent sized fork would be appreciated 👍🏻

Went here has my husband and I were wanting a battered fish. We went and ordered a single fish each. We were asked if we wanted them salted and vinegar, yes was the answer we gave and the littlest amount was put into them. When we ate them we couldn't taste the salt or the vinegar. The batter wasn't crispy it was soggy and was like cardboard. My husband pulled at least 6 bones out of the fish and almost choked in one of them. Everyone rants about this fish shop but I would rather travel 4 hours to get a decent one than go here just to satisfy a craving.

stopped here for a quite dinner as it was open till 10pm this was 9ish , easy to find on the corner , I got chips and honking cheese partner got hamburger supper , partner didn't eat hamburger it looked horrible and tasted it too ... the chips were good not many of them , but the cheese was stinking, it was sat on the worktop (wonder how long for) honestly the cheese smelt and tasted of vomit !!! prices were ok , staff polite but slow

This was the most terrible fish and chips we have ever eaten. The fish was soggy, mushy and tasteless and the batter was pale and limp. Avoid at ALL costs.

I used to work in chippy when working through college and was taught to fry by a Greek Cypriot who had 5 chippies so I know my fish n chips ....need I say more? Avoid, and avert disaster and extreme dissapoment.

I went here recently to treat my nana to a fish super, I got two fish, black pudding and a small sausage. The fish was awful, it was greasy and soggy ( I think it had been sitting in the cabinet for a bit too long) and just was not nice at all. I wasn't entirely sure that I had actually received the black pudding, i thought it was perhaps haggis which i don't eat, but i "think" it was actually black pudding,it wasn't great either. None of it was , not even the chips!! Sadly most of this dinner went in the bin which was a shame as this chip shop used to be so good.Very disappointing and for the price I wouldn't go back again as it would just be throwing my money away!

I was just off the train and rather hungry so went in for a bite to eat at the I felt fine very very greasy but once I returned home I felt quite sick and for the remainder of my evening I was vomiting which is unusual of myself and the only thing I can really put it on was my portion of chips. WILL NOT BE BACK.

Having read several reviews that rate this place highly, we persevered and tried it several times, sadly disappointed each time. Had fish suppers on several occasions only to get soggy fish and greasy chips every time. Wont be back.

Called in and ordered dish & chips and sausage and chips, but had to wait for the chips which we didn’t mind.Fish was crispy and tasty, as was the sausage, chips were better than expected.Portion size were not big, but were just right.First time we have called in, and it won’t be the last as it was better than expected.

I heard haddock and chips as a takeaway and the chips were very good the haddock batter was fine as was the fish but I have scored it down because the fish was a little dried out probably because it had been standing rather than coming straight out of the fryer

Have used this chippie for years and it used yo be quite good however not on my last visit. The fish was tasteless and when cut disintegrated into small pieces. The chips were greasy and not nice. Don't think I'll be back.

My Partner and I visited this chippy on Friday 25th August 2017. My partner had steak pie supper and I had a fish supper and they were both cooked to perfection. The young lady who served us was very pleasant and mannerely as was the man who was doing the frying. If you are ever in Lockerbie this Chippy is a must to visit , you certainly won't be disappointed thats for sure. The place was absolutely spotless and had excellent menu to choose from , all very reasonably priced, they were fresh chips opposed to frozen ones . This is a 5 star chippy, we certainly will be returning in the near future.

Acabamos de terminar de comer el pescado y patatas fritas y estamos muy decepcionados! Pedimos 2 grandes peces cenas a ser compartido entre mi marido y yo, con nuestros dos hijos. Había un montón de patatas fritas, pero muy grasienta y sólo había una pequeña pieza de pescado en cada una, el pescado no era de una gran calidad y también era grasiento! No es lo que estamos acostumbrados.

Todos estábamos hambrientos y se salió de la autopista para llegar pescado y patatas fritas. Había un montón de gente entrando y saliendo que normalmente es una buena señal. Porciones no eran grandes y con trocitos de pasta de pescado no estaba crujiente. Mi esposa disfrutamos de ella, pero que no considero en absoluto.

Solía ALARDEAR acerca de la torre, varias veces he vuelto en negación, pero los hechos son, el pescado se programan asquerosa y las patatas fritas son correosos. El sitio quiere comprender su bajado el pan en calidad y enviar su personal en un curso. Escriba un gran enfermo encantado crítica si el sitio mejora. La cantidad de gente que intentó avisarme así pero me pareció una apreciación justa estaba en orden (todo el mundo tiene una noche que sale mal, pero es más que coincidencia varios). Yo personalmente no me puedo quejar el haggis en sí (el televisor) pero es como un golden trufas servido con proporcionar restos.

Great fish and chips but the haggis balls are must try great feed homemade soup in the winter is a great tasty warm up

i ordered fish & chips the fish was full of bones which was really off putting, I went for the fish supper, and thought it was expensive. I wouldn't recommend to eat here.

We decided to have fish and chips on our last night in Lockerbie, and as the tower has been there for years we decided to get our supper from there NEVER AGAIN we got a taxi from right outside immediately and traveled a mile to where we were staying by the time we got back it was all cold and tasted as if we were served food reheated from the lunch time session it was truly awful

i dont know if this has been taken over but i was there on saturday just got chips but actually had to bin what i didnt throw up

Gran "fish and chips". De primera clase y muy sabroso. Mejor cena haggis que he tenido. Empanada crujiente y sabroso haggis. Las patatas fritas eran frescas y muy sabrosas. El personal era muy agradable. Volveremos más la próxima vez que esté en Lochmaben. Altamente recomendado.

Called in for a couple of fish suppers and were not disappointed. The food was piping hot and generous portions. Very reasonably priced.

After finding Annandale Water Services only had McDonalds we went on to Lockerbie. Fish supper - the traditional way - sat in the car. But heaps better than McDonalds. Plenty for us so good value

I had a 38 minute break between trains in Lockerbie yesterday evening. Standing on the station platform, I could smell fish and chips and so I walked a short distance and found this wonderful shop.I ordered a standard piece of fish together with a half portion of chips and this was more than enough for me. The fish was hot and fresh tasting and was cut in that particular way which they do in Scotland which is like a double fillet, thinner but wider than is normally served in England. The chips were hot and freshly fried and just as I like them – not crisp but properly cooked.I returned to the station platform and sat eating my meal enjoying every mouthful. I still had time for a quick pint in a nearby bar before my onward train.I read numerous reviews of restaurants and takeaways and it always amazes me how people rate places based upon the portion sizes. Quite honestly, it does not worry me in the slightest what the portion size is as long as the food itself is of good quality. In this case, the portion size was perfectly adequate and in fact the half portion of chips was rather generous.I would not hesitate to recommend this shop. I only wish I didn't live so far away!

My son loved it here...after getting back from my other sons wedding he was still hungry ( seventeen and 6'5'' got a lot to fill), after eating here he manage to fill up.

Food is mediocre, on the pricey side which you dont mind if you get a decent portion but you dont, you get very stingey portions. They also dont have chip and pin facilities which is very annoying when they point out that you need to run across the street to the cash machine. Please....in this day and age. Avoid!

Food was expensive and portion sizes very small. Chips were very greasy and undercooked. This is the 2nd time have bought food here wont be trying a 3rd time.

Very nice fish and chips but very small portions. Only go here as a treat. The other chip shops are faster as well 10 minute wait

I have been stopping in Lockerbie on trips home to Scotland for over 40 years. I have fond memories of this chip shop and the Italian Cafe across the road. My fish supper was really poor, the fish was old and smelly and I didn't eat it. You need to improve on this or you will lose customers. I will never come back, will stop in Moffat now for my fish supper.

Tried the Tower Fish Bar on the hop when staying near Lockerbie as an overnighter on our journey upto the HIghlands. Whilst it's always pot luck when visiting a chippy you don't know, we were very pleasantly surprised with our food. The "fish supper" contained a lovely piece of tasty haddock whilst the chicken portion was actually half a chicken. Whilst not the cheapest takeway around (fish supper over £5) the quality was not lacking. Service was quick and very pleasant with a lovely Scottish lady explaining Scotch pies to us when we asked. We liked the food so much, we stopped here again on our way back from the Highlands!What would make it 5 stars? Just a few more chips per serving.
