Worst chicken in batter supper have ever had. Chips were reheated and not appetizing looking , no salt and vinegar added. Avoid at all cost.

Visited 1st time as has outstanding reviews... cooked to order ,friendly server, .... but I must concur with other , recent reviews ... it was OK... not "outstanding"... chips were crispy ( poss. double cooked ..) , but a small portion really .. fish ( Haddock ) was decent size , and really nice ( as it should be..! ) .. but the batter on the fish , although crispy , was quite greasy . The chips , were also a little greasy.... In reality , the food was OK... as you would expect / hope from a good fish & chip shop... but that is about it ... I wouldn't rave about it , as others have ... I live out of Castle Douglas ( the "foodie town") ... so travelled to experience this highly rated take-away... It was ok - as far as fish & chips go... but I don't think I would travel to Castle Douglas just to get the fish & chips... If I am in town , and fancy fish and chips...OK... but wouldn't make a special trip ... but as we all know , nothing satisfies like fish & chips , when you are in the mood !

The young girl who took the order at the till spoke very quietly and didn't seem to know much about price list on the price boards . In Fact don't think she wanted to be there at all. Another member of staff helped out . Portion has gotten smaller and so have the boxes they are served up in. . The chips I got could of been cooked a few minutes longer as tasted like paperish.

The chips were totally inedible ~ as dry as hell ~ like they had been sitting round for ages. If it wasn’t so far to come back for a refund (Kirkcudbright) we would have brought the fish and sausage suppers back for a refund totally dissatisfied ~ first and last time we ever purchase from here again

Honestly really disappointed came in to collect our order to the staff behind the counter (Abby) in particular slagging off Irish names and calling a previous customer a “ pikey” in Abby’s words just due to being Irish which is nothing but slander , unaware of customers with Irish names in the shop not that it matters Irish names or not to hear staff go on in that manner is really disappointing and quite frankly rude

Order a cheeseburger comes with no cheese over pre over cooked reheat burger limp lettuce and one strand of lettuce.

A spankingly fresh haddock encased in a perfectly crisp batter. As should always be the case, you order and wait while they cook. Infinitely superior to all that American fast food pap. Buy local. Buy independent. Buy better.

I don’t know how this place ever makes any awards because it’s incredibly below average. Chips - portions are usually small, they lack decent texture, they have very little flavour, and are not great. Salt and vinegar - never ever seem to add this, even though the cost is not a significant business outlay Fish - fish, under the stodgy batter, is not bad Batter - consistency isn’t right. If you make it a better mix, it won’t have the 2nd part near the fish still uncooked. The batter should be crisp and even. Delivery - we tipped him but in hindsight we shouldn’t have. Why? Because he drove over the driveway and half way up the lawn, leaving tire marks on the grass *The food was cold when it arrived* Missing items - paid for salt and vinegar sauce, knowing they skimp on it. They forgot to put this with the delivery. When I called I was put on hold and then told it could come out with the next delivery. Not acceptable so asked for a refund. Refund - refund the bottle not apply a credit to my account please. When i pay money I expect money back, not a store credit. Staff - clear communication always helps foster good relationships with the customer Overall experience - flat. The only reason i used them is because there is such a lack of food options in the ironically named “food town” of the area.

I have ordered a few times from Moores. This will be my last. Chips were cold. The batter on the fish was undercooked and horrible. It would seem they never add any salt and vinegar, even though it’s an option. I don’t know why they skimp on this, but they do. The chips didn’t seem to have any salt and vinegar, as per usual. The delivery driver drove into the driveway and over our lawn, leaving tire marks. I ordered a bottle of salt and vinegar sauce, knowing how tight they are with it. They forgot this in the order. I called and was told it could be sent with the next delivery. Not acceptable. The driver called to say he couldn’t find the place (although a pin point was added to the map). I asked for a refund on the sauce and received an email to say a quid has been added to my account for the next order. I asked for a refund from being in non-receipt of goods. I did not ask for a credit to my account. A few times, when ordering online for collection, they don’t have the food ready and it’s a sizeable wait. Chips are below average, hardly any in a portion, tasteless and lack salt and vinegar flavour. Overall, do not recommend. Only use them because there is a lack of choice in the area for decent takeaway.

This place is your classic fish and chip shop. I hate to say it, however, it can be a hit or miss sometimes. Although, when it's good, it's great. Delivery has been a game changer for the town. I feel I'm forced to reduce my rating due to the problems caused whenever you order to collect in store. It is never ready on time and if you order something like a small chip, you won't get it until the big orders are fulfilled, even when there are chips waiting. Also, not sure if the chips are still freshly made as I have witnessed them come out in flat packed bags. I would still recommend this chippy tho and is better than any other this side of the region.

Fish and pizza crunch were nice, but the chips were well undercooked, and it was an online collection order too, so it's not as if we were standing there putting pressure on them to cook quickly.

Food was OK for a chip ship. Nothing spectacular. Service was insanely slow though, 25 mins for a fish and chips and a curry sauce. Was recommended to try, not all I had been expecting, maybe as they were so busy? Not a great sized portion of either too.

Might be the best fish and chips I've ever had. Slight wait as the fish was cooked to order (which isn't a problem). No seating nearby so we ended up in the park looking out over the Loch. It was the epitome of holiday fish and chips.

Although this is a chippy at heart there is a good variety on offer. I went for a sweet chilli chicken wrap today (£3.30) which was delicious. Fish & chips, pizza's, burgers, kebabs, ice cream & sweets were all available - and I'll be back to try other offerings.

It's very efficient and even with 20+ people waiting in front of us it did not take more than 15 minutes to get our food. Lots of staff and very good system with buzzers for when it is ready. The food was a bit meh, so it's fine. It won't be your worst or best chippy!

What can I say, other than it deserves its awards? The cod and chips are melt-in-your-mouth yummy (according to my partner), and I'm hooked on how delicious their chips and veggie burger are. We'll keep on coming back.

First, I thought, "Oh boy... where have we gone? " It's a takeaway only place. However, I was surprised by the food quality and option size. The chips are absolutely lovely, the fish tastes absolutely amazing!! We had cod and haddock and both tasted really good. Price was good compared to portion size. Fully recommend.

Very good service and great menu. Chips were a bit hard and bland on the day we had food but this could be the batch of potatoes on the day. The curry sauce and gravy are amazing though

Out of all the chip shops I've been to in my life, this was the most underwhelming, overrated and over priced. The portion sizes of a 'large' were more like a small. The 'jumbo' battered sausage was pretty much batter with a hint of sausage... and there was nothing jumbo about it. Asked for salt & vinegar on each supper, either they are stingy with the seasoning or they didn't bother at all. Chips were bland and soggy. And you have to order online and be given a time slot, then wait for your text to say it's ready. We waited for 15 mins over our time slot. So I wouldn't recommend it at all, there are much nicer chippys in D&G!

Had the benefit of this being my local chippie for a bit. Food is consistently good & never usually a long wait. Watch out if you don't get a 'puck' to tell you when your food is ready as someone might have your order away (happens if you have a small order of chips or something). The scoop shack is a great addition and often used to tempt me at the end of the week!

For one fish supper I waited nineteen minutes. There were lots of staff and lots of computerised ordering etc. but 19 minutes for a fish supper in a chipper is ridiculous. It was a bit pricy, but the food was excellent. However, the waiting time for what one presumes is the most common order means I won't be back.

10/10! Soft, succulent, delicious, thick cut cod wrapped in the crispiest, golden batter. Honestly can't fault it! It's definitely the best fish & chips in the Dumfries & Galloway area, by far! The pictures just don't do it justice. Would absolutely recommend. It's become our regular go-to for a cheeky Friday takeaway.

Stopped off for a chippy dinner with my 2 boys, my fish was overcooked and dry, older boys sausage was greasy and unappetising, younger boys pizza crunch was so thick with batter it was pooling grease in his mouth. Yes, it's deep fried pizza but this was excessive. He ate 3 bites and passed on it, I tried it and gave up after 1 bite. Chips were passable. Not worth the money. Won't be back.

We had our dinner from here last night and very much enjoyed our food. Four adults and a 15 y.o. fed for ~£25. A large battered haddock supper, a breadcrumbed haddock supper, chicken nuggets, and a steak pie. The food was lovely and hot, my breadcrumbed fish very tasty, the steak pie was oven baked and delicious, and daughter liked the nuggets which were crispy and not greasy. Enough chips to go between us. Ordering online and picking up was painless. Thank you Moore's!

Called in on a Tuesday lunchtime. No queue. Fish and chips was cooked to order so they gave us a 'buzzer' to take so we could wait in the car. Buzzes us when the food was ready and we collected it from the shop. Really lovely fish and chips. Great overall experience.

Poor value, £2.90 for a portion of chips that struggled to fill a roll. We hoped to get gluten free fish and chips as my wife has coeliac disease. They only do it Friday and Saturday so it was chips and a battered jumbo sausage for me and chips for my wife. We asked for salt and vinegar which was not added, the portion of chips was way too small and the sausage was not to my liking. Overall a poor experience.

Have been to Moore's before and enjoyed beautiful fish. Unfortunately this week the quality of food served was poor at best. The fish was so overcooked I couldn't cut it. My dogs wouldn't eat it & that says a lot. What a pity, we had looked forward to our holiday treat, but won't risk eating here again.

Fish and chips AMAZING as usual. We go about 5 times a year NO complaints at all. Moving to D&G so be there more often. The chips are gorgeous and the fish so white. 100%every time. Ice cream shack is also out of this world....

A very disappointing experience tonight at Moore’s fish and chip shop. I ordered haddock and chips with lots of salt and vinegar for me and plain sausage and chips with lots of salt for my husband. My fish was absolutely appalling. Strangely it was completely over cooked and dried out at one end and not quite cooked enough with undercooked batter at the other end. I’m not convinced it was cooked fresh despite the 15 minute wait. My husband’s sausage was actually burnt at one end and dry throughout. The serving of chips is now much smaller than it used to be, but the chips were not great either, made worse by the complete lack of salt and vinegar despite asking for lots of both. We threw most of the food away it was so unappetising.

First disappointment was the small piece of fish, felt they’d mistakenly given me a small supper instead of large but no, that was it. Second disappointment, they forgot to add the requested salt and vinegar. The fish was nice with crispy batter but the chips were dry, especially without any vinegar. Poor value for money.

I’ve been in many times good food an extensive menu and great friendly staff if you like good old fish and chips well that’s the place to go in Castle Douglas.

My son was in today around 2pm and got us an wee fish supper and it was the best fish supper I've had in ages, nice crispy batter and fluffy chips also its a nice tidy shop and very polite staff will defo be back!

Very poor food 2 fish suppers 1 batter and 1 breaded, no taste with fish and chips poor 1 sauage supper very poor, sausage was very grey inside and over cooked batter also really greasy ,(even my dog would not eat it) Tartar sauce not great and curry sauce like water with lumps. All at the cost of £28 Used to be the best wee chippy for miles but wont be back and defo would not recomend a visit.

I'll start by saying that I would go back if in the area and desperate for a fish and chips fix. The batter is nice, thin and crispy .. tick The chips are again generally crispy.. tick The fish is ok, but the usual offering locally of far too thin fillets.. I manage to find proper sized haddock relatively locally to cook myself, why can't the fish and chip shops? Staff need a right good shake up. None of them ever look happy to be there and transfer their own misery into poor customer service. This has always been the case with this place. On several occasions I have walked out before I started voicing my opinion of how they deal front of house. No urgency, no awareness of needs from the customer in front of them. Why oh why would a busy fish shop not have fish ready? I understand that you don't want fish sat cooked in the range top for half an hour, but you know you have busy times. Have some product ready. I questioned this once before walking out, but again got nothing back that made sense. Another time I was told I was not allowed to put my own salt and vinegar on. It's tucked away behind the counter. I did get into it that time. "Are you worried I might take too many grains of salt and a splash too much vinegar.. you don't know how I like my food... etc etc" Apparently it is a health and safety issue 🤣. I said "do you think I am going to squirt it in someone's eyes" this was another time I walked out with some customers behind me giving me the thumbs up and some just mortified that this daft Yorkshire man had felt he had to have an opinion 🫣🤣 I did say I wouldn't go back after that (the staff were probably hoping the same) I left it a year or 2... Again the food is definitely more than edible, certainly not brilliant, but the whole set up just niggles me. Staff certainly not any happier or useful. They rest on laurels they believe awards give them. Awards are only won because you bothered to enter. If your product and service is top notch then the only thing you need is happy customers telling everyone else.

Got kids meals for my 2 grandsons who are 3 and 4. They were very disappointed to not get a toy. They don't class a puzzle on the box as a toy.

We had a holiday let close by so choose to order a delivery in advance of our arrival Ordering was easy online , good menu and very reasonable prices - delivery was perfectly on time and food steaming hot. Ordered chips cheese and kabab meat. I got home had 1 bit of that kabab meat and could not eat it what so ever. I love kabab meat first time in having it from here and that was not kabab meat! Never again. Someone suggested it was micro kabab meat absolutely disgusting
