Had the loaded chips tonight, the one with haggis and peppercorn sauce. OMG! AMAZING!!!

Always go to moored when travelling through castle Douglas. Went on 28th October ordered online. COD in breadcrumbs really good. However should have stuck to FISH and CHIPS !! Got a Doner meat in tray.. have had quite a lot of Doner kebabs from different places.. God dam this dinner from Moores was so bad even I could not eat. Put it in the bin . like Rubber, no taste covered in what was suppose to be chilli sauce… so disappointed So be warned… cod in bread crumbs great if you don’t like batter but please steer clear of the dinner!!!!

Great chippy in Castle Douglas. Good selection of food and always busy. Well worth the wait. Yet to try any of the ice creams on offer

Overcooked and burnt to death such an overrated chippy id honestly go as far to say its the worst chippy i have ever tried by a mile it was like eating red hot wood chips ive been here twice before due to recommendations but i had the exact same experience both times before, only reason was i was starving today and quick stop in from a75 while on way home but i wont be wasting anymore money here again its really quite terrible to be honest i dont know how it is so highly rated but other pictures look ok but every time i have been its red hot crispy burnt chips that stab and burn your mouth and barely any salt and vinegar, the time before they didnt put any on at all even though i asked for it.

Well organised good menu and excellent food

We waited for a wee while, I was given a flashing box which ended up vibrating in my hand. It was worth the waiting and the price. We chatted to some lovely people outside and the staff inside were amazing. Anyway we got the food back to Airds farm The Dairy and Boom the food was the best I've ever tasted from a Fish and chip shop my partner and my daughter all agreed. Moore's be proud of yourselves. 10/10

Great experience today; our first time eating here as we are just passing through - we were served by Abby who was very friendly and helpful. My partner had the large fish and chips (with extra vinegar) and I had the loaded fries with haggis. Delicious and good value.

I thought we had left a review previously . This place is the best take away for Fish and Chips and ice cream in the area. It is always best to order ahead via the web as it can get busy and parking in the area can be restrictive at those times.

Best Haggis supper I've had in years and I cannot recommend this place highly enough. The chips were fantastic, the haggis not too spicy/peppery and the fish Cooked in a light crispy batter. If you are in the area, go there for your dinner. You won't regret it. I'm getting a bigger portion next time and I'll try out the ice cream counter as well. Stoating.

Phoned an order at 6.55pm Sunday night, said I would pay when I got to the shop 10 mins later, stood in the shop for ages, waited till 7.30 pm to ask what has happened to my order, the people serving found it in the top part of the oven, no explanation! Everything stuck to the paper and only warm by the time I got home, 5 mins away by car to the Bridge of Dee! Needless to say ended up in the bin! Waste of £16.30!

Lovely breaded haddock and chips. Maybe a bit more salt n vinegar would be nice. Very well cooked, crispy, fresh fish and delicious chips. Gravy very tasty too. Will deffo visit again!

Absolutely brilliant fish and chips bought from here. Perfect white boneless fish, crispy batter, and very tasty chips. Topped this of with a Sir Walter Scott sundae for dessert. Will definitely visit when I'm in the area again.

We had breaded fish chips and peas tonight(25/06/2024) It was excellent the best we have ever had, highly recommend.

Terrible experience, chips where overcooked or just reheated, curry sauce was bland and my burger was ordered with all the veg but honestly hardly anything on it! Thought this was one of the best chippy's in the area but it's one of the worst, daylight robbery will not be back!

Called in with my partner Saturday lunchtime there was a queue and had to wait for our food but didn’t mind as we knew it was being cooked fresh. Fish was very nice but a little on the small side but the chips were awful very pale hard and undercooked. Such a shame won’t be returning as it was pricey too

Been here twice now and wont be back both times same girl serving who just cant be bothered to even really speak to you looks and acts like she doesnt want to be there. We went with my sister and her family who were up from england for the weekend we travelled through from dumfries went a walk round the park with the kids thinking we will get dinner from here afterwards. We didnt make a complicated order, i ordered 2 × half pizza crunch suppers, my sister a single half pizza crunch a haggis supper a kids fish meal ( no vinegar on any f the 2 kids meals as they ask you this at the point of ordering but then salt and vinegar were both added so whats the point of asking in the 1st place)a kids burger meal after she was told they couldnt do a cheeseburger meal just a burger( not hard to put the burger on a roll and slap some cheese on it even for an extra cost) and a chips mushy peas and gravy with a buttered roll. We waited and waited and waited(we were the only ones there when we arrived no other customers) lost count of the people who came ordered got their food and left while we still waited staff talk amongst themselves whispering and laughing making us feel a bit like erm wheres our food? Are we missing something here? Eventually the girl that served us made up one of the kids meals then decided to leave the rest and make up an order that was clearly for a delivery that order was made up and the driver left with said order and us- well we still waited. Twice my sister asked will it be much longer to be told no wont be long sorry about this.... she then asked about sweet chilli sauce told it was 50p so when she went to pay was charged 1.20 😩 again another delivery goes out the door she starts making up some more of our order someone else comes round they start whispering about gravy checking the order then shout can we have some gravy asap. Another 5 mins passss and another girl.comes and whispering away there seems to be an issue with the blooming gravy shes telling her to put cold water in it or something again my sister asks is this going to be much longer the kids are hungry, the reply we are waiting on gravy so sorry😩 surely when the orders are placed they show on a screen there must be something in the kitchen side that shows what needs to be cooked and prepared so she asks for the kids meals so she can take them out to them and meanwhile the rest of the stuff is bagged up and handed to me. Giving my sister her food she asks is everything there i says i assume so she checks and no sweet chilli sauce so back again to ask for the sweet chilli sauce she paid for. In this time her boyfriend had been in and out to find out what was taking so long my husband had been in he thought there was a place we could sit in to eat and had left them out in the cars. We spent £40 odd pounds between the 2 of us and waited nearly 35 minutes for 2 very simple orders really terrible service and with castle douglas being a very touristy town i really think this will leave a bad impression as this is the 2nd time we have visited with the same stony i couldnt care less about anything i dont really want to be here attitude 😩

Went up there, food was made fast and to say it was perfect would be an understatement, the burger was nice and moist, salad was amazing, chips where also amazing.

Im not even sure how its possible for any human to cook chips SO badly!! Let alone a chip shop! Once or twice a year i try again hoping there will be new staff or that management act on bad reviews here... No such luck. Complete waste of £40 on inedible food!! Chips rock hard or have that manky green potato flavour, only thing edible was a sausage. Made even worse by the worse customer service you will ever experience prepare to feel like an inconvenience even though its customer based job! (just trying to get served , no i didnt bother returning disgusting food)

Enjoyed a large haddock and chips supper with a side of (veggie) gravy. Perfectly cooked with crisp batter. Very popular when we visited with a decent queue, which is a good sign, but we were served quickly. You can also purchase a large range of ice cream too.

It was okay. A bit too much salt used on my cod and chips for my tastes and not enough vinegar. Portion was a decent size. Batter on fish was lovely. Chips were just alright.

Visited 1st time as has outstanding reviews... cooked to order ,friendly server, .... but I must concur with other , recent reviews ... it was OK... not "outstanding"... chips were crispy ( poss. double cooked ..) , but a small portion really .. fish ( Haddock ) was decent size , and really nice ( as it should be..! ) .. but the batter on the fish , although crispy , was quite greasy . The chips , were also a little greasy.... In reality , the food was OK... as you would expect / hope from a good fish & chip shop... but that is about it ... I wouldn't rave about it , as others have ... I live out of Castle Douglas ( the "foodie town") ... so travelled to experience this highly rated take-away... It was ok - as far as fish & chips go... but I don't think I would travel to Castle Douglas just to get the fish & chips... If I am in town , and fancy fish and chips...OK... but wouldn't make a special trip ... but as we all know , nothing satisfies like fish & chips , when you are in the mood !

The young girl who took the order at the till spoke very quietly and didn't seem to know much about price list on the price boards . In Fact don't think she wanted to be there at all. Another member of staff helped out . Portion has gotten smaller and so have the boxes they are served up in. . The chips I got could of been cooked a few minutes longer as tasted like paperish.

The chips were totally inedible ~ as dry as hell ~ like they had been sitting round for ages. If it wasn’t so far to come back for a refund (Kirkcudbright) we would have brought the fish and sausage suppers back for a refund totally dissatisfied ~ first and last time we ever purchase from here again

Got large fish and it was all batter, the fish was that thin and over cooked, was just eating batter, it’s really gid at some times but this occasion definitely not

Honestly really disappointed came in to collect our order to the staff behind the counter (Abby) in particular slagging off Irish names and calling a previous customer a “ pikey” in Abby’s words just due to being Irish which is nothing but slander , unaware of customers with Irish names in the shop not that it matters Irish names or not to hear staff go on in that manner is really disappointing and quite frankly rude

A spankingly fresh haddock encased in a perfectly crisp batter. As should always be the case, you order and wait while they cook. Infinitely superior to all that American fast food pap. Buy local. Buy independent. Buy better.

I have ordered a few times from Moores. This will be my last. Chips were cold. The batter on the fish was undercooked and horrible. It would seem they never add any salt and vinegar, even though it’s an option. I don’t know why they skimp on this, but they do. The chips didn’t seem to have any salt and vinegar, as per usual. The delivery driver drove into the driveway and over our lawn, leaving tire marks. I ordered a bottle of salt and vinegar sauce, knowing how tight they are with it. They forgot this in the order. I called and was told it could be sent with the next delivery. Not acceptable. The driver called to say he couldn’t find the place (although a pin point was added to the map). I asked for a refund on the sauce and received an email to say a quid has been added to my account for the next order. I asked for a refund from being in non-receipt of goods. I did not ask for a credit to my account. A few times, when ordering online for collection, they don’t have the food ready and it’s a sizeable wait. Chips are below average, hardly any in a portion, tasteless and lack salt and vinegar flavour. Overall, do not recommend. Only use them because there is a lack of choice in the area for decent takeaway.

I don’t know how this place ever makes any awards because it’s incredibly below average. Chips - portions are usually small, they lack decent texture, they have very little flavour, and are not great. Salt and vinegar - never ever seem to add this, even though the cost is not a significant business outlay Fish - fish, under the stodgy batter, is not bad Batter - consistency isn’t right. If you make it a better mix, it won’t have the 2nd part near the fish still uncooked. The batter should be crisp and even. Delivery - we tipped him but in hindsight we shouldn’t have. Why? Because he drove over the driveway and half way up the lawn, leaving tire marks on the grass *The food was cold when it arrived* Missing items - paid for salt and vinegar sauce, knowing they skimp on it. They forgot to put this with the delivery. When I called I was put on hold and then told it could come out with the next delivery. Not acceptable so asked for a refund. Refund - refund the bottle not apply a credit to my account please. When i pay money I expect money back, not a store credit. Staff - clear communication always helps foster good relationships with the customer Overall experience - flat. The only reason i used them is because there is such a lack of food options in the ironically named “food town” of the area.

This place is your classic fish and chip shop. I hate to say it, however, it can be a hit or miss sometimes. Although, when it's good, it's great. Delivery has been a game changer for the town. I feel I'm forced to reduce my rating due to the problems caused whenever you order to collect in store. It is never ready on time and if you order something like a small chip, you won't get it until the big orders are fulfilled, even when there are chips waiting. Also, not sure if the chips are still freshly made as I have witnessed them come out in flat packed bags. I would still recommend this chippy tho and is better than any other this side of the region.

Fish and pizza crunch were nice, but the chips were well undercooked, and it was an online collection order too, so it's not as if we were standing there putting pressure on them to cook quickly.

Food was OK for a chip ship. Nothing spectacular. Service was insanely slow though, 25 mins for a fish and chips and a curry sauce. Was recommended to try, not all I had been expecting, maybe as they were so busy? Not a great sized portion of either too.

Might be the best fish and chips I've ever had. Slight wait as the fish was cooked to order (which isn't a problem). No seating nearby so we ended up in the park looking out over the Loch. It was the epitome of holiday fish and chips.

Although this is a chippy at heart there is a good variety on offer. I went for a sweet chilli chicken wrap today (£3.30) which was delicious. Fish & chips, pizza's, burgers, kebabs, ice cream & sweets were all available - and I'll be back to try other offerings.

It's very efficient and even with 20+ people waiting in front of us it did not take more than 15 minutes to get our food. Lots of staff and very good system with buzzers for when it is ready. The food was a bit meh, so it's fine. It won't be your worst or best chippy!

What can I say, other than it deserves its awards? The cod and chips are melt-in-your-mouth yummy (according to my partner), and I'm hooked on how delicious their chips and veggie burger are. We'll keep on coming back.
