The food at Toucan is always excellent. There is nowhere better in Minehead for delicious healthy food, which is why I am a regular customer. However, just recently they have taken to playing music with a pounding beat and a little bit too loudly, which rather takes the pleasure out of sitting there trying to enjoy a chilled out break. Given that the cafe is part of a wholefood shop and a therapy centre promoting calmness and wellbeing, i find the choice of music at odds with the overall 'vibe' of the place. certainly it did nothing to help me enjoy my coffee this morning and the persistent banging beat had me leaving as quickly as possible.

We were visiting Minehead and booked the Toucan cafe for lunch on Friday. I tried a blackboard special, a curry, and the other main was a green salad bowl. Both were excellent as was a portion of cake we shared. So delighted, we visited on Saturday and had different warm quiches with salads. The prices were most reasonable. The staff were helpful and professional. A really lovely, homely place for a good vegetarian meal prepared by people who care. (Note access by stairs to first floor).

visited Minehead specifically to have a meal in Toucans. What a excellent meal, such good quality and a reinstatement of the condiment tray. Good portions all home made and friendly staff. can't wait to return. Highly recommended

Been here several times. Classic vegetarian food done very well and good size servings. Highly recommend, easily the best food in Minehead, light airy rooms with cool tunes.

I was staying in butlins and there wasn’t a massive vegan selection of restaurants. However this cafe is a 15min walk from butlins and the food is amazing. I had the salad one lunch time and then the tofu burger the next lunch time both meals were delicious. We have family in Taunton so we will definitely be coming back ❤️

My fiancé Paul and myself had a very enjoyable lunch in Toucan, as part of our day trip to Minehead. Paul, a staunch meat eater, opted for the 3 bean chilli with sweet potato fries with cheese plus caramel latte. Myself, a long time vegetarian, opted for the lentil soup with sausage with caramelised onion sandwich plus breakfast tea. Food and drinks both arrived promptly after friendly and relaxed service. Temperature of food and presentation were both lovely. I think it’s also worth mentioning that self-service chilled water is available free if so desired. We both thoroughly enjoyed our Toucan lunch today. Paul had to finish my sandwich as I was so full! Toilets up slightly steep staircase but were spacious and clean with plenty of toilet paper, soap and hot water. I also liked the fact that we were given a loyalty card for hot drinks as it all adds up. Price wise, I’d say middle of the road but fair when you consider the portion size and food quality. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our lunch today in Toucans. We will certainly return!

Visited here a few weeks ago. The minestrone soup was the best I've ever had, the coffee was great, really relaxing environment to sit in, friendly service. If I'm ever in the area will definitely be visiting again.

Passing through Minehead, we stopped for morning break. Superb cheese scone, almond tart, tea and coffee were greatly enjoyed. The other food looked so good, was sorry not to be around for lunch. Wish it was nearer to home!

Great veggie lunch. Kind of Moroccan soup with tomato, chickpeas, onion, sweet potato, courgettes and spicy soup base. Friendly people . Salads and quiches look really good too.

A friend introduced me to Toucan last week. I'm not vegetarian/vegan but I love all food. Had a slice of delicious flan with butternut squash in it and a very good salad on the side. wonderful! the coffee was very good too. Toucan is at the top of my good places to have lunch in minehead now. i will be back.

Called into Toucans, after a recommendation. Wow! The food is amazing! The mixed salad that came with my quiche, was full of so many delicious things, I didn’t know where to start. Delicious food. Very reasonably priced.

We had a delicious lunch here - I recommend the spinach flan which came with a good varied salad, lovely dressings, and a pot of spiced seeds to sprinkle. I was pleased to be able to eat quite a low-carb lunch (diabetes control) and really enjoyed it. Friendly staff, too.

Ordered a cheese and onion toastie for lunch. Very busy at that time but the service, speed and quality of the food were all first class. I think their food gets better all the time.

We stopped off here for breakfast on our way home from holiday. Two of us are veggie/vegan and one not. There were loads of veggie and vegan options with a really nice varied menu for drinks and food. Not badly priced and nice seating. Free parking for an hour on the road outside (if you can get a space!) We got there when they opened at 10am, by 11am it was very busy. The two ladies who served us were really lovely. Definitely visit if you can - vegan/veggie or not!

really lovely place. Love the range of products in the shop and the staff are really friendly and helpful.

From the outside, it doesn't look much and one could easily pass by this place and not give it a second look. Above a whole food store, was a surprisingly great cafe, a proper hidden gem. A few rooms which make it really easy to keep social distance. Not a huge menu but that's what we prefer as you know then more care is likely to be taken. We had falafels and the butternut squash quiche. Plenty of well dressed salad and really nice veggie meals. We are not veggie and if all veggie food is like this, I would be happy! Even my 11 year old who doesn't like salad, said the salad was nice. A real hidden gem which makes a real difference to your usual sandwich and predictable food in a cafe.

We discovered this place on a previous visit and we're looking forward to returning. Fabulous home made food, most of which veggie or vegan. Generous portions and you feel good eating it. Healthy stuff. Cracking fresh salads and hearty quiches. I love it! If you get a window seat you can watch the world go by below you.

After many years of the Toucan being the best place to get a decent coffee in Minehead, a the new owners have built on these years of success. What is new and lovely is the amazing environment Amy has created. It’s bold. It’s fresh and it’s a lovely place to sit and have coffee in Mineahead.

Review written by my 10 year old daughter: I visited here to treat my mum, sister and my great aunt. We went up to the first floor and then had a great view of the town. The atmosphere was lovely and everyone there calm and chatting nicely to each other. When the food was served, almost immediately, it was brilliant! Me and my sister had the lemon drizzle cake and my mum's fruit scone with no sugar was delicious. That's why I would like to recommend the Toucan Cafe for it's food, atmosphere and amazing service.

For over a decade we enjoyed this cosiest and friendliest of cafes with great vegan food (my omnivorous relations didn't even realise it was a vegetarian café). However, we gave it a wide berth after unpleasantness with some new owners. Now has a new new owner... but sadly still not the Toucan of old. Pros: vegan coleslaw, several vegan dishes, lovely old building. Cons: burnt and over-peppered burger, undercooked pastry, bare walls, hints of chain-store-supplements over hearty wholefood. We really want to love you again!

Return visit. Been a few times but saw the negative views a while back and made special trip to check out.All good now. Excellent meal - really tasty pie, interesting sides, very good value.Nice warm haven in winter. Friendly staff.Such a good choice of meals - always difficult to make mind up - and tempts you to come back time and again.Only shame is it’s so far away for me. As an overall package, I can’t think of a better cafe I’ve ever come across.

I had mushroom & eggs benedict this mornin and it was lovely. Then went to the shop and bought lots of goodies, so nice to good to have such a variety with vegetarian food.

Slowservice when not busy and two out of the three dishes we ordered forlunch were well below standard. Pity considering the shop itself excels in every way.

Toucan is a total joy the minute you step through the door ,in every way, from the people who work there ,to the fabulous shop ,and the cafe which is a real pleasure with excellent service and great food , and such a lovely warm atmosphere ,as locals we are very lucky to have this very special place in Minehead .

One of my go-tos when in EXmoor. Imaginative vegetarain food, and friendly service. The soups are especially good, and warming. Check opening times though as they aren't open Sundays (from memory)

We had first visited this café 8 years ago, and were so pleased to return finally on a family holiday. The ground floor is a health food shop, whilst the café is on the first floor, with health treatments on the floor above.We were really pleased, when the café made ordering so easy when having gluten and lactose intolerances, with many choices on offer. Even allowing some swapping of items on the set menu to accommodate the dietary requirements.All of the food and drinks were full of flavour, and really well cooked/prepared with great friendly service. The atmosphere is really relaxed, with really lovely decorations, made even better by the delicious smells of freshly baked muffins and cakes.The whole family (2 adults and one 3 year old) would thoroughly recommend a visit, and we will be back (sooner than last time hopefully!)

Great piece of quiche, lovely salad, helpful new staff. Toucan is getting back to its former excellence now that previous people's nine month unhappy ownership is over. Well done all, we look forward to many more happy times with you. Live fresh flowers next time please - we've been spoilt. It is very soon for the new management, no doubt things will grow, develop and diversify. A VERY GOOD START.

This was our second visit and it was equally as delicious as the first. The menu is interesting and varied and everyone in our large group enjoyed their food immensely. Toucan is colourful, friendly and very good value and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

We like the Toucan Cafe. There are three distinct rooms upstairs, each with its own vibe. Meals are around £8, so not cheap for a lunch, but are quite hearty for those who like a big lunch. Personally we prefer a lighter lunch, but the food was so tasty we both finished off our meals, though Phocea struggled with her's and left most. There is a sense of early Seventies hippyness in the food, and a hint of that hippy ambiance in the surroundings, though the music played is more modern and mainstream. We'd like a wider range of price and portion sizes in the menu. If there were more smaller, cheaper options available I could see us eating here everyday.

Have visited here in the past and loved it. Everything used to be amazing but not anymore based on this visit. Falafel salad hummus and pizza and chips. All tasted like it had come from the supermarket. £27 wasted. I think there has maybe been a change of ownership as last time we visited a sale was mentioned.

Called in for lunch. Initially impressed by its simplistic charm, but this was soon shattered! Firstly we were savaged by a very rude assistant. We ordered an omelette and a quiche.sounds simple ! But sadly very disappointed!

We used to visit every 6 weeks or so while travelling through.

OK, let me start by saying that as a Farmers son, a part time Gamekeeper and avid lover of meat, choosing to dine at a Vegan/Vegetarian restaurant probably wasn't my best ever choice, but I'd agreed to take my wife out to lunch and this was her choice so, not wishing to be churlish, I agreed to give it a 'bash'.

Toucan came up as the top result when I searched for "gluten free Minehead". Being "that person" with dietary requirements we've learnt to just go to the first place Google suggests. Toucan did not disappoint. Clearly labeled varied menu, wholesome tasty food. My husband had quiche and I had the risotto which we both enjoyed. My only criticism would be that the side salad was not needed with such a generous plate of risotto. Would definitely visit if passing through Minehead again.

The meal was tasty customers very talkative.this sort of area suits me it’s nearly all flat no sort of steep hills .very good area for people with walking difficulty.

Not been to Toucan since late last summer, it’s changed quite a bit since then.

Visited Toucans having not been there for about 5 months and was very disappointed. The food was ok, but no atmosphere and the enticing board detailing the delicious specials on offer was no longer there and I was disappointed not to be able to choose from the usual amazing menu I was expecting. Instead of its warm cosy interior that was alive with chatter it was pretty quiet and its new look was muted and bland. Drinks were served in mis-matched cups and saucers, my husbands was so mismatched that the handle did not allow it to sit in the saucer and so its contents slopped everywhere.

I have loved Toucans for many years, the staff were always so friendly, chatty when they were not busy (but that wasn’t often as they were always busy), very helpful and informative regarding the health care and food downstairs and the food was always delicious. Sorry to say that since it’s been taken over it’s gone downhill, the owners never say hello and completely ignore me every time I go in, no one seems to know the products anymore and little by little I’ve gone completely of the place. Why would I go to a place that’s not friendly and not helpful. So sad as it was my go to place for my diet and my lifestyle.

Took my Daughter for a glass of milk and some cake and I enjoyed a lovely creamy latte, the staff couldn't do enough for me.

In recent weeks, the food quality and service has dropped. Some favourite lines in the shop are also missing now and the atmosphere has changed. Very sad as the Minehead institution and winning formula that has been Toucan since the 1980's has been broken.

We visit Toucan regularly as the food and drinks here are excellent for vegans and special diets. It is always busy and has a friendly atmosphere. There are lots of choices and portions are generous. It is usually only open during the day and not Sundays, but does do some special events, so check their website for details.

Was told when we arrived there was a wait but was well worth it. The two young girls kept apologising but we mind. My wife had tofu burger and l had aubergine and tomato curry and there was so much on the plate, we needed take away boxes. Great service

A lovely, friendly place that serves delicious food. We were on holiday and enjoyed our meals so much that we went back two days later. Fabulous food, fabulous friendly staff. If you are vegetarian or vegan ( or even if you aren't ) we would highly recommend lunch here.

If you are a vegetarian or not go to the Toucan. We had another great meal. Seems to be under new management but the quality is maintained.

We all planned to come here for our first lunch together on the week end and have really looked forward to the scrumptious nourishing food this lovely little wholegoods cafe serves up. We went for the tofu burgers which were unfortunately off the menu this day but had the delicious bean burger and gorgeous vegan cheese instead while our guests had the sweet corn and squash chowder and falafals with mixed salads. The whole meal was as usual top quality fresh and deliciously wholesome...the girls working here are so friendly and attentive too. We have never had second rate food here! It's superior wholegoods deliciously seasoned and spiced. It's cosy and welcoming if a little busy and a bit short of seats some lunchtime..but so worth a visit! It's a cosy haven of a cafe in winter especially warming!

An amazing little cafe/health store. Great food and very healthy. The only down side was that there is no lift and the cafe is upstairs. Didn’t bother me but some people could miss out.

I have eaten at the Toucan many times over the past few years and always been very impressed. Today was slightly different. Not possible to view the dishes of food. Smaller portions. Less vegetables in salad. More expensive. I prefer how it was before

I've been going to this restaurant for several years now, and the food is always very good and plentiful. I'm so glad it's there, in Minehead - the jewel in its culinary crown!

Visiting Minehead again for a couple of days. Decided we would visit for lunch, as we enjoyed it so much, earlier this year. Once again, we were not disappointed. This restaurant could really turn us into vegetarians, as the food is so tasty. Fresh, home made food, lovingly presented. You would be crazy to miss this place.

We stumbled across the cafe, on a quick visit to the town with dog in tow - cafe staff were welcoming and the seating was comfy and relaxed. Good coffee and cakes!

Nice little areas to sit so you don’t feel on top of other people, gives toucan a lovely character.

My husband and I (Health Enthusiast and a confident Cook here) visited Toucan for lunch and was very impressed with the quality of food that was offered. My husband had the Mousakka and for me the sweet potato feta cheese quiche, both were absolutely delicious. Now for us this is a very rare compliment as we normally only prefer the food that I cook at home. The food was similar that I could have cooked it myself. My husband eats a lot but even he was satisfied with the generous size of portions given to us. We also had coffee which is made from organic coffee beans and organic milk, although plant base milk options are also available for vegans. The food served was just simply nutritious and amazing. We will certainly return every time we are in the Minehead area. Highly recommended!

We went to Toucan for lunch yesterday with my daughter and grandson and we all had a fantastic meal, the children’s menu is great and the specials board made choosing difficult because all the choices were delicious.

A great place to meet and have a coffee, snack, or lunch in lovely relaxed atmosphere with a good range of food too. I'm 'paleo' biased - there's no meat on the menu of course - but often organically sourced food which ticks my book and the staff are always friendly and intelligent. I've met some interesting folk here! I visit Toucan regularly.

The Toucan Cafe is a popular place to eat as they make their food daily and use as much organic ingredients as they can, the portions are large and all taste excellent, today I had the homemade soup of vegetables and chickpeas and it was delicious, the only problem is the cafe is above the Toucan shop, so if you can’t do stairs then getting to the cafe will be a major problem problem, but that is the only problem, other than that this place is well worth a visit.

Couldn’t quite give it 100% rating just because their were 8 lamps and a row of fairy lights on in the dinning room during the hottest and brightest day of the year....not eco friendly. A small criticism on an otherwise fabulous experience, enhanced by the wonderful and hard working staff......we will be back

Our family visited the Toucan Cafe on a recent trip to Minehead. It is situated above the Whole Foods shop in a Victorian building but the meal was well worth the climb. It has a quirky atmosphere and a friendliness that extends from the staff to the customers.

Went out of their way to provide us with great cake and coffee. We will be back for sure. Lovely setting too.

Being vegetarian and gluten free, t's usually very difficult to find even one tasty meal in a cafe. Here they have a huge variety of vegetarian and gluten free foods. Really tasty, large portions, very reasonably priced. Dog Friendly too! We travel for over an hour to visit here; Its definitely worth it

You can have Take always in the cafe .most of the food is organic always loverly and hot or cold foods .loads of organic items from the shop ..a bit difficult for wheelchair people .but I'm sure they will help out for food to takeaway

I've been here twice now and each time I've loved it. This first floor café is above a wholefood shop in the main street. There is always a wide range of salads and flans but on my most recent trip I had the falafel and hummus, which was very good. Very reasonably priced, and friendly staff, there are some nice touches like a plate of salad dressings and seeds and croutons for you to take as you please.

Had lunch here with my girlfriend 25/4. I did not realise it was a vegetarian café until I looked at the menu. But the food was excellent, staff were excellent, the price was excellent, the choice was all vegetarian but excellent and they also sell alcohol which is very excellent (I know, very before a superlative).It does get busy and rightly so.

At last what an amazing well stocked shop with so much choice and sugar free cakes what a bonus. well worth a visit.

Passed here many times over the years, finally popped in for a light breakfast and we were not disappointed, the toast was the chunkiest we have ever had, the home made marmalade was tasty and plenty of butter to accompany the toast, also lovely pot of tea and a mug of coffee, all topped off with good service...and not over priced.

The salads were very fresh & tasty & the scone pronounced very good too. Unfortunately we had parked in a 1 hour slot close to Toucan, thinking this would be plenty of time for a 1 course lunch, but the food took a long time to arrive & so had to be gulped down, which didn't do it justice.
