Food was delicious staff were friendly and welcoming glad to see food being served here again

Had many a meal at the Torbay and always been lovely..today we had Sunday lunch under new management,at 15 pounds per person we thought it would be something really special,how wrong we were!! 3 small roasties,small bowl of veg,between four of us,barely enough for one..had to ask for another, meat was ok but gravy wasn’t home made and the Yorkshire pudding tasted burnt,no mashed potato or cauliflower cheese, charge top end but food was nothing like a restaurant should be!!!

Very disappointing. The place was crowded when we arrived and we were asked to get our own drinks order before we were taken to our table. We specifically went on a steak night and had booked in advance only to be told that most of the steak options were unavailable. We ordered from.what we were told was available. Some of that turned our not to be available. We ordered again. We were told that the food we had chosen came with chips and salad. We then didn't see anyone for around an hour and a half, we had to fetch ourselves our own second round of drinks from the bar. The food finally arrived, two steaks were apparently quite nice, one that was ordered medium rare was so well done it was dry tough and inedible and was returned to the kitchen uneaten. The salad was 6 rocket leaves and half a cherry tomato... really. The chips were skin on, some.were undercooked, all were cold. By this time we were starving so we ate what we could. The chicken parmigiani was tasteless and barely came with enough tomato and mozzarella sauce to cover a cracker. The ribs also tasteless, I couldn't be bothered to eat half of my chicken and that went into a chap who had had to share a steak with his wife. The pudding menu was likewise mostly unavailable. We felt we had to 'book' our desert when the food arrived so we would actually get some. The puddings that did turn up were small but adequate. We were not told at the start of the evening that the place is two separate businesses so you are presented with two bills at the end of the evening which came as a surprise. I got a bag stomach from the chicken parmigiani that I did eat, the chap who had the other half didn't, so I'm putting this down to my own sensitivity. On the whole.... not great which is so disappointing as I really wanted to love this place. It would be so lovely to have a good steak house in the area and at the moment this isn't it. They have just opened up so I'm prepared to believe that these are maybe teething problems but I will not go back willingly for quite some.time. Sorry to the waitress who was really trying her best but .. no. Sorry. A very very disappointing birthday 'treat' (the inedible steak) for our lovely friend.

It was newly opened for food, so we popped in for a try. It was amazing. Lovely atmosphere with a log fire 🔥 Already going back for more. Thank you so much for making us feel welcome. Can't wait.

After the complete renovation by new owners, it looks great. It serves two good real ales, and has Sky sport. Unfortunately, problems finding a chef means that food is limited to certain days.Check before going. This review is not 2024 it is from years ago. However it has just started serving food again.

Stopped making dinner so sadly disappointed. We did have a ok drink but disappointed about the food .

Lovely cosy atmosphere, staff second to none, couldnt do enough to help and advise. Great choice of beers and wines well presented and served. Will definately be calling again. Looking forward to food being served there again.

Lovely local need to bring back food

Read the reviews and checked the online menu and everything looked Bless! 💯 Was in the area so thought why not! Dated but traditional quirky gastro pub kinda vibe from outside and inside. Can't really knock it, and we just wanted to eat tbh and tbf so I ain't gonna digress! 1st off, the menu online is NOT the menu when you land (Something about new owners blah blah blah) so having already picked what we wanted beforehand at home, we had to now go through another menu, again..Minor, I know, but it's a review! Behave!... Anyway we managed to order some dishes we thought would be winners, but nahhhh to be honest they were Not!!👎🏽 No Mash available with a Pie! A Pie! No mash! Like seriously!? 🙄🤣 A pie that was proper tasty don't get me wrong, but the pastry was pastie (As in, needed some colour) and the veg were some frozen bag stuff mostly! Chips! Dead! Floppy n greesy! Dead!💀 Garlic bread! Dead! 💀Obviously some frozen stuff but it tasted odd! Mad! Chicken Curry! Generic from the jar vibe, aswell as the naan! Dead!💀 Lasagna! Dead!💀Basic with no real rich flavour you would expect from a "Homemade" dish! Mad! Satay Chicken starter! Mate! Dead!💀 Mad! Glass of sauvignon! Real cheap n yucky! Sparkling water and Salmon! Couldn't tell you as they were not avaiable!🙈 Out of the 5 dishes we ordered, we rated just ONE a winner, even though they bought it out with chips, when we asked for sweet potatoe fries! 🙈🤷‍♂️ I really wanted to give them 4 stars because the service and hospitality were spot on (almost) BUT when basic food is flopping sooo bad, at them prices 👀 too, it can't be done! Truss me! Disappointed we haven't managed to have decent meal since visiting this area and have no clue where these reviews came from but it is what it is and everyone has their own tastes and opinions🎯 Would I come back? Bun that! 💀 Would I recommend it? Only to the locals!😐

This is a wonderful little pub that dies restaurant quality food with a warm friendly welcome. The service is professional yet homely. The menu is varied but not too cluttered. A wide variety for all tastes. We love going there and will visit frequently. P.s. the Torbay Chicken is amazing. Creamy cheese and leek sauce on a large chicken breast. The burger is incredible.... its a monster but juicy and tasty. Desert is home made and worth staying for. . Sorry we didn't get chance ti take photos of the mains. They were that good we forgot.

A big thank you to the Torbay for a great lunch yesterday. Not easy catering for a party of 19 of us, from babies to oldies!! (Well not that old) Food was delicious, nothing was too much trouble and we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves - what’s not to like. Highly recommend.

Such a shame. The Torbay inn used to be one of those utter gems that our family would be excited to go to. Unfortunately everything that made the Torbay special is gone. The menu was completely uninspiring and the starters were massive disappointments. The chicken satay starter was bland, like boiled chicken. The salmon was dry like the packet had been left open! So many of our mains had things wrong - the steak was over cooked, we ordered chips and got garlic bread, the chips we did get were undercooked and soggy like they had been left in oil. The lasagne was like it had been soaked in pepper...and why did we not send our food back? Well the waitress was impossible to find and when we could she was too busy flirting with a guy at the bar. Service was appalling! Not once was we checked on throughout our meal or asked if we needed more drinks, our empty glasses were left on the table throughout the meal. The attitude was awful! I sound like I'm picking but honestly we just couldn't wait to leave and this used to be one of my favourite places to go! Overpriced and underwhelming

Just been in there most items on menu not available, i asked for Torbay chicken wasn't very good sauce over cooked, only 3 boiled potatoes and then she said that they had run out of salad and gave me a little pot of peas🤣🤣🤣 AVOID

We found this a very lovely place with a very friendly staff. We had a three coarse dinner for a very reasonable price, which was delicious. Bread with olives, garlic mushrooms, Very good vegetarian lasagna, and beautiful grilled sirloin steak as a main course, apple crumble and vanilla chocolate sponge cake as dessert. I can definitely recommend this place to anyone!

Recently taken over the current management are working hard to give a good service and provide food and drinks after lock-down. As visitors to the area we were very happy to support the local economy. I feel very sure some of the niggles will go and this will become a vibrant place in the town. Be aware that the portions are Welsh Portions!! (large...) The menu is usual for local pubs (meat, burgers, curry)- one very good point is that the menu offered a wide range of vegetarian dishes and also vegan options

Visited this weekend and although the pub was very quiet we were not let down with food. If you are after a quiet meal and with cheaper alcohol that in Llandeilo then this is the place to visit.

Friendly pub, great beer (Gower Gold), really good steak, fair price. Recommended. a very enjoyable visit.

After phoning around the area to discover that most restaurants were not open until wed or thurs through to the weekend. We went to this restaurant and received a very warm welcome. Eve and her mum were exceptional as was the food. Very hot and credit where its due. Thank you.

We had a lovely dinner at Torbay Inn two days ago. The service was polite and warm, the food was amazing! The music from the 90s was super!! Would love to come back for a meal again.

Dissatisfied with my meal, worst steak pie I've had in a restaurant served with an eyeful of soggy chips but my wife was happy with her cod , vastly overpriced and I will not return.

After our appalling experience six months ago, I was reluctant to take the advice that we should give it a second chance, but I'm glad we did. You walk in and immediately feel welcome. Prompt service with a smile and amazing food made this a first class dining experience. My wife and I shared a samosa and sweet chilli dip starter which was excellent. Now I am a glutton for steak and ale pie, and if it's on the menu, there's a better than even chance I'll order it. For that reason, I would consider myself a connoisseur, and can honestly say this was the best I've ever had. The puds were also to die for. Well done the new management to turn this place around and put it the top "must visit" category.

Dropped in for our evening meal by chance. So glad we did. I had the special which was venison stew with dumplings served with freshly cooked veg and mashed new potatoes with garlic and my husband had 8oz burger which was served with onion rings salad chips and coleslaw. The venison stew was to die for. The taste was fabulous so much so that i can honestly say if you were full you would still want to finish this meal. The veggies were cooked to perfection. My husband’s burger was perfect and so very tasty. Price for two high quality meals and two alcoholic drinks was very reasonable. All in all fabulous food, great service and a great atmosphere.

Easter Sunday Roast dinner was amazing. Excellent value, friendly staff. Food had so much flavour. Can not recommend highly enough.

Went for a meal here tonight for a friends birthday the food was amazing so tasty and big portions. Good atmosphere and the staff we really friendly and very helpful 👍

I would guess the high ratings gained by this place dated to before it closed for refurbishment under new management. We planned a family celebration for our daughter-in-law's success in landing a new and very challenging job. It was booked for 7.30pm which was the time we arrived. The menu was unexciting, although not low-priced, and looked as if it had come off a photocopier. The first of our party was served at 9pm and the last at 9.45. The food was bland and two burgers had to be sent back as they were raw in the middle. We felt for the young staff struggling to cope with absolutely no sign of any management direction. The new owners have to do better than this, or they will not survive.

Well after few hours drive one gets hungry, so after checking in to our B&B we went straight to the closest pub. Been told there meals will be ready no earlier than in an hour which was fine. While waiting the table next to us left taking back their money cause they waited too long for their meals and never got it. Guess what, after more than 1,5 hr wait we went to check, and the kitchen was already closed. The lady seemed to be so surprised we haven’t got our meal. Oh well. Shall I add that I don’t recommend this place?

Heard a lot of good reviews of this place but found the Sunday lunch today to be fairly ordinary not special. Plates weren't warm & food could have been hotter. Nevertheless it tasted nice. It was also somewhat off-putting as a group on another table complained continuously & loudly throughout as we waited for and then ate our meal. Must have been a bad day in the kitchen.

Ohhh my days! Had the most beautiful tapas food and cheesecake ever. Highly recommend, the food was delicious and not tight on portion sizes. Homemade white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake to die for. Only downside was staff seemed slightly chaotic and long wait times. The food however was well worth the wait.

Looking at the reviews, I think there is a new chef and the food was terrible. The pizza had a very strange taste to it and the burger was average. The only desserts were lemon meringue or chocolate orange cake ( which was delicious). The staff were working really hard and the other guests were very friendly, just don’t come for the food!

You can drink beer all night, but a family with a young child aren't able to eat anything other than crisps after 9pm. Just keep spending all your money on beer.

The night we booked for the pub was extremely busy and the staff appeared to be a little rushed. When we were given the menus, we were told all the things that were unavailable, which amounted to two thirds of the entire menu, but fortunately our choice was still available. Our order was taken 20 minutes after we were given the menus. we wated a further 25 minutes for the food to arrive. When it did eventually arrive, it was not quite what we ordered (sweet potato chips instead of house fries and the onion rings were missing, however, we were very hungry by then and ate what we were given, which turned out to be very tasty. We were then told our bill would be brought over, but had to go to the bar to pay after 10 minutes of waiting. I think that all in all, we hiit a very busy night when the pub was extemely busy and a little short staffed. Even though they were very rushed, the staff were very polite and pleasant.

The pub is back open under new owners. We had Sunday lunch on the first Sunday they were serving. The food was delicious. Keiron was excellent in smoothing over a rocky start to our visit.

We visited The Torbay the first Saturday after the new Chef started and had the best meal in a very long time and told the manageress and staff this. However, we booked for the following Saturday and the food wasn't as good. I had the same starter as previously Taste of Wales so was able to compare that. The second time the chips were greasy and our steaks were just ok. I do hope this is just a glitch because it is a lovely pub with lots of atmosphere and we wish them well. I must say also that the way the male staff are dressed is very smart and all the staff are polite and friendly. Good luck to you all.

I visited The Torbay Inn, for the first time today, after just moving into the area. I had a warm friendly welcome. The service and atmosphere was excellent. I had carvery for family as a take out. Excellent in all ways. Will be visiting more when things get back to normal. Give it a try, you will not be disappointed.

Lovely steak, so tender and tasty. Great pint to go with it. Barman has a great sense of humour too. Highly recommended.

In a world of chain operated establishments and gastropubs the Torbay Inn is a traditional gem. No frills, just solid pub favourites done really well and lovely, welcoming service. A great place to stop for unpretentious food at very fair prices.

The pub is lovely and the atmosphere is lovely but they are missing a few of the basics that make it look nice, e.g. place mats and table numbers look cheap and nasty and the menus are the same. The menu is basic and ordering and service is haphazard however the food is absolutely lovely. The portions are generous, it looks great on the plate and tastes really good. They have a few different offers on during the week which are really good. We visited on the recommendation of a friend, definitely weren't disappointed and absolutely call again

Easy parking friendly staff enjoyable food

I'm a bit disappointed, we were there on Sunday afternoon and they have changed their menu since our last visit a few months prior. They used to have some cracking dishes on the menu, my wife and I were both looking forward to their mixed grill which included ribs, sweetcorn and coldslaw, and family which visits from England every so often were also looking forward to a repeat experience. The menu is now just a list of generic bar meals which all other mediocre bars seem to copy. It's taken away the edge that would make us choose to go there considering the other options in Llandeilo. I've been raving about the Torbay for months and it's dissapointing that they have changed such a great menu. I hope you guys revert to your original more inspiring menu or something similar! I'm not trying to badmouth the place i'm hopefully providing constructive criticism as the Torbay is a nice clean pub, with friendly staff/owners and the food they do cook is good and tasty. It's just a little dull. Please revert to your original menu as I think it was a winning recipe

Wow! Such a wonderful place! We stopped here for refreshments while travelling to Llandeilo, we received such a friendly welcome from the lady running the pub. After choosing drinks from the great selection of beers, real ales, and soft drinks we ordered from the very reasonably priced menu and specials board. The food was fantastic, very tasty, fresh, and well presented. We finished with some their spectacular sundaes and chocolate fudge cake... omg, lush. I would certainly recommend the Torbay Inn, I know for sure, we'll be calling again. Thank you.

The Torbay's always seemed to have struggled bravely against the odds, and its bright orange/yellow exterior is evidence of that determination. It's an old fashioned pub inside, but none the worse for that, and until recently had one outstanding feature: chunks of meat served to your table on hot stones, sizzling, so you could eat them as rare or well cooked as you liked.

Lovely food with brilliant service from the waitresses. We as a family of 4 had the 8oz Sirloin Steak and was lovely! Thank you

Ist wedding event for The Torbay Inn.....lovely relaxed day and really great food......no small portions...can't believe the size of evening buffet!....no one was left hungry....thankyou to all staff. having had lunch there recently I can vouch for the quality and home prepared and cooked food!

The pub is welcoming, well kept and in a great location. Recently taken over the new landlady is enthusiastic and very friendly and the service is second to none. Apart from being a great pub there is also great food; the Greek salad with lamb koftas was better than anything I had in Greece! And it really is great value too. This has become a regular venue for us and we have never been disappointed.

Long waiting for food despite having booked, food mediocre and service to match. Manager does not appriciate you asking how long the food will be.

Hubby and I went there last week. We weren’t sure where to go and looked on here, lucky for us the first place we rang to check availability didn’t answer the phone. How glad we’re we. As soon as we went in, it has a lovely homely feel to the place along with a really friendly and welcoming bar person/owner. She was so attentive to all the customers. We shared the King Prawn starter which was really flavoursome, followed by us both having the rump steak with homemade chips and came with side salad, grilled tomato, peas and onion rings. It was the best steak I’ve had in a meal out for a very long time. It was tasty and cooked exactly how we’d both requested it. Lovely crispy homemade chips, peas were cooked perfectly, everything was just so good. I opted for the cheesecake which I again enjoyed so much. Great food and value for money. Will be back soon.

Called in late on Friday evening - the lamb kofta salad was delicious, well presented with good ingredients. Would definitely call back :)
