Stopped off for dinner when passing through. Staff were helpful food was excellent. I will definitely eat there again. Have eaten here a number of times. The good is tasty and the service were great.

There were plenty of seats in the bar area (which you could still order food from), but the restaurant area was full, so it's probably best to book. Nice atmosphere, with good decor. There are some tables outside, but it is close to the main thoroughfare in the town.

Staff attitude very poor. Six covers missed staff unable to put two tables together on beer garden as it may have caused an obstruction so we left went to another establishment who were fantastic

Fab afternoon sitting in the sun.

We stayed in the stables which is offsite but only a very short walk away. Location wise its lovely, plenty of shops to nosey round. Can be tricky for parking but that is already mentioned so it doesn't come as a surprise. The rooms were clean and modern, and the included breakfast is spot on, very nice!

Just had a Sunday roast, had great reviews so thought we would try it out. Great venue and atmosphere, but unfortunately the food was a huge disappointment on all fronts. Every element of the roast, from the meat being tough, roast potatoes tasted stale, gravy was thin and oily with no flavour and the side veg was laughable (looked like scraps of veg covered in water). Completely disappointed and will not be returning and it looked like a few other tables complained about the food as well and won’t be returning. Bad day from the chef and probably the worst roast I’ve had other than Toby carvery.

Just went for drinks here to refresh on our Barnard Castle trip. Nice place to sit and have a drink. Quiet location yet central.

Beautifully maintained traditional hotel / pub in a central location. Highest quality room ( we were in room 10) Great food and staff very pleasant. We only stayed one night to break a long journey but on the basis of what we received we intend to return and stay for longer. The only very small niggle was slightly slow service at breakfast, possibly staff shortages, but the food more than made up for that.

Exceeded expectations. We checked a few food venues out on Google before settling on the Three Horseshoes for a Sunday roast. Food arrived quickly. Very well presented. A little bit of style about it too. Lovely stuffing and red cabbage. Good portion of chicken and well cooked. As we arrived the Black Sheep went off but there were 3 pale ale/golden ales on offer. Friendly and attentive staff. Will go back.

What can we say,we had a £50 voucher given as a Christmas present for my Wife and I.We kept putting off and putting off until recently when we got to dine and have drinks.All we can say is Wow Wow Wow our whole evening was fantastic.Thankyou so much to the wonderful smiling staff who made us feel very welcome.We had drinks before we were seated and chose starters to share of garlic cheese bread,Tempura King prawns,Cajun potatoe skins and onion rings.Everything cooked fresh and everything delicious and so very tasty.All we kept repeating was mmm this is so good,it realy was.We were given perfect resting time to let our starters settle,we never felt rushed and we couldn't wait for the main courses.I had the chicken parmo cooked to perfection and replaced the fries with chunky chips,one of the best parmos I've ever had.Would love to see creamy cabbage as an option,a must with a parmo.My wife had fish and chips,again cooked to perfection.Propper chips not frozen the whole meal was so fresh.Would highly reccommend to any visitors.Compliments to the chef,our food was amazing.Two very very happy customers.5 star

Visited here last weekend to celebrate my birthday. There were 16 of us and the service was excellent. The staff who served us were very pleasant and helpful. The meals were both hot and delicious. Well worth a visit. Highly recommended.

The atmosphere was lovely. The staff were friendly and helpful. We visited on a Sunday so not the menu posted on their website. The food was delicious. My husband had the roast beef Sunday lunch, extra gravy no problem. I had the Pan fried coley which was delicious. If we are in the area again would definitely visit.

Excellent hotel , comfortable rooms in good condition. Dined in first night resteraunt was full so that tells you it's good quality. Breakfast we went for full English it didn't disappoint 👍

Lovely beef roast for me and a pan fried Coley with mussels for my better half both of us really enjoyed the meal and atmosphere of the place backed up with great service from the staff we interacted with certainly recommended

We visited this hotel many times during our stay in Barnard castle the food is very good and not too expensive, the beer garden in the back was a lovely place for a glass of wine and very nice staff

Well what can I say ….. this is a little gem directly in the town of Barnard Castle! This was our first visit and will definitely return! Firstly the room was immaculate and cleaned to a very high standard, the food was second to none and the staff worked their backsides off from morning until night!

We've ate at this place a number of times and its been fine. However, we booked in for Sunday Lunch yesterday and left very disappointed. The food was luke warm, the veg undercooked and the meat was sliced untra thin, with half of it consisting of fat. The Cauliflower was so hard we struggled to put a knife through it. At just under £16 per head, I think value for money is non existent. We won't be back.

Really third rate: reheated chips, hard scampi and the croutons in the Caesar Salad were huge uncooked cubes of bread nestling in great lumps of iceberg lettuce. Very disappointing.

54 questions. 5 months of planning. 3 birthday cakes. 1 FANTASTIC venue. I cannot begin to express how incredible Craig and the staff at The Cellar Bar were in helping me plan a surprise party, from my first query, to 54 questions later (possibly even more). The catering was drool-worthy, the set up was fantastic and overall, they made the party an absolute success and stress free - could NOT have done it without them!! Excellent food in the busy comfortable restaurant at this centrally placed hotel. Some superb vegetarian options, can thoroughly recommend the Chickpea Falafel, my wife also enjoyed the King Prawns. Highly recommended.

Not sure where to start as the whole experience at the 3 horseshoes has been fantastic. Amazing helpful staff. Wonderful food , simply sublime. We shared tempura prawns and lamb kofta and they accidently brought tempura vegetables, this was quickly resolved and the veg were left at no charge. They were all devine. Presentation and taste amazing. I had a carrot and pumpkin risotto and added chicken .... the flavours were stunning. My friend had the tagliatelle ragu. Wow wow wow. Gluten free pasta available and to die for. To note there was so much choice for people needing gluten free diet. What a refreshing pleasing change to have such wonderful helpful professional staff in this day and age. The three horseshoes are definitely to be recommended... do not miss out when in charming Barnard castle

We had a really delicious meal. I have coeliac disease and there was no problem checking gluten free dishes for me and my steak was perfect. The creme brulée was excellent. Friendly efficient staff.

My wife had the fish and chips which were terrible. The batter was so hard that the fish inside had stuck to it. It was so hard to chew that it was almost inedible. It was a special treat so my wife didn’t tell me till we got home otherwise I would have refused to pay.

Me & my wife came for a an Incredible Meal last night!!! Staff were fantastic!! A* Service, but wait the Food, Blew us out the park, 2 Breaded Brie....Crispy...Gooey.. Melt in the mouth And Both Filet Steaks were cooked to absolute Perfection like butter, cooked to the perfect Medium Rare....Chips were gorgeous!!!! And to finish it off The Creme Brulee Wow oh wow, The head chef even came out to talk through some thing for us and explained what the micro herb was on our desserts 10/10 all round!!!

Ordered 4 meals, 3 had parts overcooked. For 1 of the kids meals we returned the sausages (they were literally black), chips on another were so dark it was hit and miss if 1 would taste nice, and the pasta was borderline mushy on the third meal. Starters however were amazing. It was early in the evening before it got busy so hopefully the chef was just having an off day. It really was a disappointing for my birthday meal though

Review for the Cellar Bar at the Three Horseshoes Hotel - I held a surprise 30th birthday for my husband in the Cellar Bar this weekend and I cannot fault it. The service and communication from start to finish was perfect, and the attention to detail was incredible! Craig made sure the party was personal to my husband, asking what colors he likes and his favourite drink etc and the result was brilliant. The room on the night has balloons in the colour scheme we discussed, there were personalized signs in the room and even personalized paper toppers for drinks. All at no extra cost! The buffet food was incredible, loads of guests commented on how nice it was, and we were given takeaway boxes at the end of the night to take food home with us. All in all we had a brilliant experience. Craig kept in touch on the weeks leading up to the party to ensure it was a surprise for my husband and that the room and food were too notch. I would highly recommend it to anyone thinking of planning a party!

We asked a lady in the st to recommend us some good food for lunch and she did a great job… had a lovely lunch posh fish finger sandwich chunky chips and salad and a shredded ham sandwich skinny fries and a salad. All fresh and tasty. Service was great defo go if you are in the area.

Very comfortable hotel with really friendly staff. Excellent breakfasts. We had one evening meal which was excellent and really good value. All in all an excellent hotel. Barnard Castle is a lovely market town too, with some really good local produce to take home.

The Threes is always a lovely place to go for lunch. The service is great and it’s always busy! We had steak and Stilton sandwich with chips and a side of onion rings. Fantastic food!

Disgusting abusive behaviour from who I have been informed is the landlord of the vunue' who we witnessed threatening to "beat up" the young lad who was part of the evenings entertartainment because he didn't like the volume' such a shame for such a fantastic...

We were SO disappointed. We were a party of 12 but, with one dog, had to sit outside and not able to pre-book tables. Having looked at the Sunday lunch menu for 27 August, and this was only two weeks later, we felt we knew...

Tasty reasonably priced dinner on the terrace. Fair choice of mains. I had the chicken burger whilst my husband had a burger. Only downside, dogs are not allowed indoors and you can’t book a table outside.

Stayed overnight in the annexe which was nearly new and well presented. The hotel staff were very helpful and their service appreciated. The food was of lesser quality and quite expensive for the portion size. Would stay again.

Numerous reviews recognise dreadful services and issues with quality of food. We stood at bar for too long simply trying to get served and were reluctantly shown to table. Stupid waitress then walked off without giving us menu. When we eventually got one it took the an age to take our order. Throughout the meal we couldn't get waitress attention because their tactic is too deliberately look at the floor to avoid work. Had to getbout of seat to ask for service. Badly trained waiting staff is only ever about very weak management. Time to move on those in charge of this sloppy place.Management love an aggressive lieing response to reviews... over to you 'gloss over team'!!!

Stopped here on a cold wet February Saturday morning. Though fairly early it was quite busy and soon filled up completely. We were greeted and served by friendly and efficient staff. The food arrived within ten minutes and was just right, not too much, not too little and nice and hot.

As we were attending a wedding at Lartington Hall on Monday we booked into the Three Horseshoes Hotel for the night. Hotel had great reviews and we were all looking forward to it. Seamless start during check in, everything seemed great... Until the next morning! We had rooms on the ground floor. And opposite my particular room was the back of the pub/bar. And at exactly 7:30am two men began to load into the beer cellar the kegs. The monumental noise must've woken up the whole Street! It was horrendous. The odd bang wouldn't have been so bad but this noise continued, non stop for 25 minutes! No chance of getting back to sleep and after a full day and night at a wedding we were not best pleased to say the least. If you know the beer kegs are delivered on a Tuesday morning and that those rooms are right opposite therefore will be woken up early, it is your duty to let guests know this! £90 per room per night for that?! Awful.

Bad chips and no heater. Poor service from blonde waitress called Katie (apparently) usually the service from a young G called Sam is quite delightful but word on the street is that this young thug does not have the pumpeee and is now on the street. (Hold tight asnee)

Husband, 3 year old and myself travelled here for the Christmas fayre meal. The atmosphere and decor were brilliant a real cosy feel, although the staff were understandbly extremelly busy.

Durante il nostro soggiorno a Barnard abbiamo cenato per ben 4 volte in questo pub, ottimo il locale, il cibo e la birra; il personale è sempre molto carino e disponibile e ci hanno sempre trovato un tavolo per cenare nonostante l'ora un po' tarda (7.00pm). Consigliatissimo.

It was gorgeous and also a little more than we could eat.. looking around at what everyone else was eating, that also looked amazing. The staff were extremely friendly..i will certainly be taking that 45 min ride again !

Been a few time's for Sunday lunch !! But got too say it is very very boring, some meat and veg every time we have been . Come on get a grip and move with the time and the seasons . Une happy customer.

Having been in Wales and England for nearly two weeks, we were stunned by the rudeness of one of the employees of this hotel. We stopped in to ask for help with directions to a B and B that was located outside Barnard Castle. One worker, male with dark hair and a beard, replied to my sister when she explained what we needed, that they had rooms available there and he couldn't help us with directions to anywhere else. Now, we are two older ladies who haven't been refused help by anyone in two weeks. Having made arrangements ahead of time we were only interested in finding our way. But this employee did himself and your establishment a disservice. We will make sure to steer anyone away from the Three Horseshoes Hotel, Pub and Restaurant every chance we get.

Food ok , we sat at table 5 and the trouble smell coming from the toilets was very off putting. Not a place to go and have a nice meal as the noise from the bar put our friend off . Not the best off nights

We visited this pub for lunch despite reading mixed reviews. The customer service was very poor and we almost felt uncomfortable on entering the pub. When we finally had our orders taken, our meals were both cold and well below average for pub lunches. We definitely will not be returning. Very disappointed.

We have been a few times and a couple of times the food had been good and a few more times its not been as good. The service was really good and the place is very nice.

This was my first meal in the hotel restaurant and it won't be my last. I had the three course lunch, which was excellent and reasonably priced. There was plenty of choice, the portions were quite sufficient and the food was very well cooked and presented. The staff were friendly, helpful and attentive and the standard of service was excellent. I will definitely be going back, and recommending it to my friends and family.

The Three Horseshoes has been acquired by new ownership and transformed internally and in the rear gardens. It is not the rough pub that many of us knew and avoided years ago. The beers are good as well.I had the seared scallops which were melt in the mouth delicious. This I followed with pork three ways. The rillette was worth the visit by itself.There was also an excellent dab of a sauce based , I think, on black pudding. I finished off with a chocolate brownie which was surprisingly light and very chocolatey.Minor criticisms of the meal, which were listened to carefully, are a couple of extra scallops and bit more of the pickled raisins; more vegetables on the main course and more of the excellent sauce mentioned above; and finally, more raspberries - they were delicious.They also need to do some retraining on the espresso machine. This is a failing with many restaurants, unfortunately. Improve the coffee and sell-up with a brandy or liqueur.However, don't let this put you off. It was the best meal I've had in Barnard Castle for many a long year and is well worth a visit. I will be going back.
