My husbands haddock & chips was lovely as were the prawn cocktail starters however my lobster and king prawn linguine left a lot to be desired. It came in a thick brown sauce that was unrecognisable and the lobster and prawns were only just warm. What a total waste of £27.00 such a disappointment.

We have now been coming here about once as month since early summer. Never really been disappointed with either the food or the service. That's the reason we return. We ate early on a Friday evening and it was nice and quiet. Different from 3 weeks ago on a Saturday night, large party with a very young child screaming its head off!! So Friday nights for us. When we were having our meal we noticed people with dogs sitting outside and allowing one of the dogs to walk around on the table. Absolutely disgusting.

We were recommended to visit, and the service was extremely poor, in fact it was non existent. We arrived for lunch at 12.40 and were greeted by a very cheerful lady who took our drink order, which was delivered promptly. However this was as far as the service went! We ordered 2 very simple lunches, Hunters chicken for me and salt and pepper squid for my wife. We finished our drinks and despite several other tables receiving their meals, ours had still not arrived. At 13.25 I asked where our meal was and how much longer were we having to wait, and was told that as the other diners lunches were “easier” meals ours would soon be ready. I then asked how much more simple was Chicken and squid, but was again told that owing to only having one chef, the “easier” meals were served first. It was at this point we decided to end the discussion there and simply paid for our drinks and left. Had the staff admitted that our meal had been forgotten and they would be straight onto it, I might have felt inclined to accept the apology and stay. I have never before been given the answer that “easier” meals were given priority and will never return to this overpriced establishment.

Food was terrible. We all had the Christmas set menu and were completely disappointed. Budget ingredients, tasteless. My turkey actually looked like a giant witchity grub and was dry as sticks. 2 friends had the beef Which left us speechless, not a vegetable in sight, although another friend had cod which she said was nice and it did look well presented. All in all a terrible experience never to be repeated.

Booked to eat here with friends for Christmas. The menu looked really good and had high hopes! Arrived to a brightly lit dining area and shown to our table. The waiter was very polite and friendly. We had pre ordered so no waiting around. The starters all round seemed ok. I had prawn cocktail so can’t go wrong really. For main I had ordered beef bourguignon. When it arrived it was served with cubes potatoes and no vegetables. I asked to see if I would please have some. This was not a problem and the veg arrived. Unfortunately the sprouts were very hard but the rest were fine. The beef however was so so dry and so was my friends so we presumed this was how it came so didn’t complain. It wasn’t cubes of beef it was one piece of beef steak! It has no real flavour. I did eat it I was starving as I hadn’t eaten lunch. The dessert wasnt much better This was a roulade and didn’t come with the coulis. It was soggy almost slimy. My Friends chocolate orange cheesecake had a jelly like texture and didn’t come with the lemon curd ice cream as advertised. The whole meal was a disappointment really. It’s the first visit to here and I don’t think I’ll return sadly. The ambience was all wrong. The lighting the music. It’s a no from me.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

We were tired having walked all the way from Kessingland in warm weather having struggled through many roadworks to get to the restaurant. However, tired also summed up what we thought of the place. The curtains looked tired and many of the overhead lights had failed and not been replaced, contributing to this impression. We arrived during the afternoon and decided to sit inside. The only other people in the room when we arrived were members of staff. It being described as a fish restaurant we'd hoped for a wide choice of freshly locally caught fish on the menu, but in that we were disappointed. There was the option of a whole or a half lobster and we were intrigued by a Lobster and King prawn open lasagne with rocket and parmesan salad and garlic bread so we both chose that. While we were waiting we asked for olives to share. We were brought quite a large quantity of two types of pitted olives, green and black. They were small, uninteresting and we left most of them. Fewer olives of a better quality and taste would have been preferable. The main course tasted good and we did enjoy it. We found the reference to open lasagne was a couple of sheets of lasagne floating in the sauce. Our disappointment with the main course was, however, in the meagre quantity of lobster in each of our dishes, leaving us both wishing we'd chosen instead a half lobster thermidor. There were plenty of succulent king prawns in the dish but in stark contrast, a very small amount of lobster pieces. A more accurate description would have been 'King prawn open lasagne with some lobster, rocket and parmesan salad and garlic bread'.The service that we received from the friendly and cheerful waitresses was fine.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

The restaurant is in an unusual location (in an industrial estate) but that adds to the charm. We liked the layout, decor and ambience upon entering. However, the quality in terms of service and food does not match the price tag. Some of this is due to the obvious lack of experience of the Head Chef but mainly it is due to poor staff training - which is so frustrating as many of the issues could be solved so easily!Firstly, I have never paid £40 for a bottle of wine and had the experience I had here:-1. Not asked if we wanted to try the wine.2. Not poured any of the wine.3. The wine was presented to us in an ‘Ice cooler’ with no ice or water.Personally, I have always found the first two points as pretentious theatre therefore I have to confess that this didn’t bother me at all. However, when paying £40 for a bottle of wine, I do expect it to be kept cool which was impossible in the wine cooler given to us. At that price, ice and water is an absolute must. By the end of the bottle, the wine was close to room temperature. We also ordered drinks prior to ordering food (and drank them before the starters arrived) where the empty glasses were not collected until we had finished our main courses, and that was only upon our prompting. The food was well presented, the chef clearly knew how to cookFish or steak to a good standard but the food lacked flavour overall. For instance the Caprese Salad was literally Tomato, Mozarella and balsamic vinegar. There was no seasoning at all. Maybe this would have been fine if the ingredients were of such high quality that they spoke for themselves I.e. homegrown tomato but this was not the case, leading to a very average dish. The skin on the pan fried cod was underdone, soggy rather than crispy. Although, the actual fillet was tender and well cooked. The sautéed potatoes on both the cod and lemon sole were effectively thickly sliced new potatoes. They were cut too thick, under seasoned and not sautéed for long enough. Both the cod and lemon sole were served in a flavourless tomato sauce that almost resembled a tomato soup and detracted from, rather than adding to the dish.My wife had the Cola chocolate cake for dessert which was excellent.I had the cheese and biscuits. The portion sizes were generous but the cardinal sin of Brie being served cold rather than at room temperature was committed - again pointing towards lack of training.Overall, we enjoyed our night, and to be frank it doesn’t have much to compete with locally. However, we left feeling frustrated. The staff, whilst hardworking and eager to please, are clearly not well trained. The chef is at the moment limited but is hopefully on an upward trajectory. Anybody that dines out regularly and lives in a City will know numerous places that are to a far higher Standard than this. However, this is near the top of the list for Lowestoft and with a small amount of fine tuning it could easily put its local rivals in the shade - I look forward to seeing how it develops over the next year or two.

When you have a mariner friend for company then you must pick carefully when it comes to choosing a place for dinner. The Third Cross was no disappointment . If you head for the Haven Marina in School Road - just off the main Victoria Road into Lowestoft you will find it. My tip is if you think you are in the wrong place then keep going right through the high gates of the marina. Tables overlook the boatyard where boats are in a variety of state of repair. Look further and you will find some gems to look at in the water. This one of the few places during our visit to the area that offered Lobster and two of us tried the Lobster and King Prawn linguine bound in shellfish bisque and garlic bread. Popped in for breakfast during Eat out Help Out. Covid safe and the breakfast was very good and well worth the full price. Needed to book in advance and tried to book for an evening meal but was fully booked due to deal.

We were keen to visit the Third Crossing due to a recommendation we had received. Our first thought was that the Marina was more of a boat yard, something commented on previously. We had thought it would have been nice to walk around it, however, this isn't possible. This in itself is not the fault of the restaurant.I took advantage of the East Out to Help Out scheme and ordered lobster, which I had been invited to select myself from a clear tank within the restaurant, and my partner ordered the lobster and prawn linguine. I was generally satisfied with my lobster dish, although felt it was a little light on flavour, however, my partner felt hers was on the chewy side, perhaps as it may have been cooked differently or longer for her meal.We had asked the waitress about available drinks / wine, however, she appeared to have little knowledge of what was available, or what to recommend, however, she was otherwise accommodating and polite.Overall, it was pleasant enough, though we felt a little rushed after we had finished our meal. We would have preferred to have rated this 3.5 stars, as felt neither 3 or 4 stars represented our experience.

A last minute dinner booking was the best choice under the Covid-19 restrictions service and staff were so friendly & polite. But the food was amazing the lobster was so fresh, prawn cocktail had a homemade touch to it and my hubby loved the prawn & lobster linguine! An enjoyable evening thanks!

No vegan option of good healthy food for my daughter. We had to have nachos for a meal option. Lack of knowledge of vegan food. Offered mushrooms then told they were cooked in butter. Sea bass served with almonds which is a strange combination usually serviced with trout. My order was, pesto and cod; which was ok but I expected it to be green pesto. It turned out to be a tomato soup with cod on the top. My husbands order of a steak burger was perfect.Staff were friendly and attentive. Limited healthy options for desert. Nice restaurant but not really a marina setting, more a boat yard.

Lowestoft doesn’t have much it seems when it comes to dining out. This restaurant is right on the marina so was nice to sit outside and enjoy the views before heading inside to eat.The staff were really pleasant and professional.I enjoyed my meal but I’ve had better steaks elsewhere.

Tucked away at the end of a marina, this is a real gem. The service was great and the food clearly fresh and very tasty. Although there was no children’s menu, they adapted around their existing menu with size and minor tweaks and have a generous price reduction to reflect the portion size. An excellent choice.

We arrived at The Third Crossing very excited and expecting a great meal. We ordered Tuna Nicoise, a lobster and the sea bass. What we wanted and what we received was not even close to being nice. The sea bass was okish, it would have been better if the skin was crispy, it's pretty easy to do, but it wasnt and had to be left behind. The new potatoes weren't cooked properly either. The lobster was just terrible. It tasted nothing like the lobster I've had before, it was chewy and had a strange taste. The tuna nicoise was also terrible, the tuna was overcooked (it's supposed to be pink?? ) it was also tasteless and dry. Out of the starters the focaccia was stale but the dipping oil and olives were okay. I would be very surprised if the sea bass, lobster and tuna were cooked fresh. The portions were big though and the prices weren't bad. We did say that the tuna wasnt good and it was taken off the bill.We did want to complain about the rest of the meal but felt bad, however, we should have said something because the whole meal was just a massive disappointment. The only plus to all of this was the waitress who was amazing, she is a real asset to your team.I would also like to mention that staff should not smoke outside in front of the restaurant next to the customers, it doesnt look very professional. But all in all, I would definitely not recommend The Third Crossing

Warm friendly atmosphere staff made you feel welcome. Both fish dishes were amazing tasty and well presented. We would definitely recommend this restaurant. The portions were good and the menu choice was varied but we chose the chefs specials. Service was prompt. We ate early as we guessed this restaurant was popular and being a Friday night we wanted to avoid queuing which is evident at the moment and we were not disappointed.

The owner of our holiday rental recommended the Third Crossing. I suspect they must rely on recommendations as you would never find this place by accident, as it is tucked away in the corner of a marina down a minor road. There are a handful of tables inside and out, with views over the marina. The interior is nicely decorated and during Covid times, good spacing between tables. There is a fixed menu and also a daily specials from which we chose most of our dishes. Fish is to the fore and we had hake, sea bass and trout. Everything came well presented, piping hot and in very large quantities. Flavour combinations were very good and the only improvement IMO would be to reduce cooking times, as meat and fish dishes were all borderline too well done. Service was very friendly and professional, the waitress wore gloves and visor and there was plenty of sanitiser. I would be surprised and delighted to find better dining choices in the area.

We do attend this place for meals quite often - but guess it was a bad day . . . we ordered Cottage Pie - omg - it was not as one would expect - the mince was in very long strands several inches long and stuck together and hard to cut - it looked awful, anyway we returned our plates and ordered a different meal. The staff are very good and said they are going to change that recipe .......... they agreed with us. We like this place and will go again but not for ' cottage pie' sorry, just don't know what had gone wrong.

Don’t let the location put you off! My partner and I visited the Third Crossing mid February and I was completely blown away! The food was amazing and the service was fantastic, the only thing I could comment on which i wasn’t too keen on was the decor, it feels fairly dated which doesn’t represent the modern food they serve. The food is very well priced too, if anything too cheap for the fantastic quality! Unfortunately I didn’t get any photos but I had the Fillet steak which was cooked to perfection and my partner had the sea bass fillet with brown shrimp sauce which she said was incredible. All the food was served with white gloves and big smiles. Left there very happy indeed! 9/10

First visit to this lovely restaurant down school lane and hidden away! A well kept secret in the heart of Lowestoft's yachting community.Menu emphasised fish dishes beautifully cooked. An imaginative and delicious selection of starters followed by equally food mains. We didn't have room for tempting deserts ranging from a light lemon roulade to a winter warmer of apple and cinnamon crumble. Lovely atmosphere, well priced with excellent service. Real value for money. Highly recommend a visit here.

I have been to the Third Crossing over many years and have always found it to be great food, great quality and extremely good.My recent visit was rather disappointing, the starter (Prawn & Crayfish) was mostly potato chunks with very few prawns or Crayfish, it was tasteless. The main course (Skate wing) the potatoes were cold and the beans looked like they were cooked last week, the potatoes and beans had some sort of garnish that was very dried and shrivelled - the Skate wing was excellent although it was served on a cold plate so everything was cold before I had eaten my meal.

Sadly to say was disappointed. Let’s start off with the positives, ordered a burger with a Stilton and spring onion sauce, hand cooked chips onion rings and coleslaw. The coleslaw was really creamy, the chips and onion rings were delicious. And the bun was fine. Bottle of wine was lovely. That’s where it stops, my burger was tough and over done, but I could get over that, it was the Stilton and spring onion sauce. A sludge with no flavour. Not even a smidgeon of Stilton flavour. I did ask the waitress where was the Stilton? She said, bless her, that I can see you have had some (where?) think she meant the sauce, no Stilton or even flavour on my plate. She offered to go and get some more. I was horrified when she came back with this pallid gloopy sauce in a dish (some that had already been thrown over my burger) that tasted of absolutely nothing. Yuk. Surely if Stilton is the first named ingredient in the sauce you should be able to taste something? Got hubby to try, he understood my disappointment .,From my comments you will know I did ask and said I wasn’t happy. Not her fault. The kitchens . So… if you like Stilton don’t go for the burger with Stilton and spring onion sauce. All you get is insipid pale tasteless gloop. Oh and the sauce on the burger made the lettuce go soft and slimy, no crunch, and goodness knows what happened to the tomato. Soft and slimy too. To be honest I am fairly local, but wouldn’t go back.

Bit on the lumpy side. Starter was salmon and prawn. 1st time I came sauce was great. Second none. I'm sure the fish dish is wonderful but the steak I had wasn't so great. Pudding was a delight. Sadly for a Friday it was very quiet
