The Thai House in Plymouth

I really not sure what has happened to this place over the last year or so and can’t quite put my finger on it. Whether it’s under new management I do not know, but most definitely not as slick service and quality wise as it used to be. I still go occasionally but has lost its edge which is a shame

Quite a small restaurant just off Plymouth Town centre. The service was excellent, and the food is very authentic Thai. I had the mixed seafood Thom Yum to start, and it was flavourful with an excellent balance of hot and sour. My main was the beef short rib massaman curry, deliciously rich flavour, spicy without being overpowering, and beef so tender you could cut it by looking at it! Absolutely first-class restaurant and I will definitely be back again soon. Very highly recommended. P.s. the only proper Satay in Plymouth... you must try it, thank me later!

It's been a year since I last visited this Thai restaurant, which used to be good. The menu seems to have changed and is different, kind of simplified but not as good. It's certainly a lot more expensive than it used to be with less food on your plate. For a Friday night, there was hardly anyone in, suggesting others think similar to my thoughts now. Service and food were mediocre. it's just not the place it used to be, and next time I visit Plymouth, I'll go somewhere else. We thought the mixed starter, in particular, was expensive and poor value. Looking at the list of recommendations, I can't find anything in particular that stands out anymore, which is sad.

Lovely food and very helpful staff. My daughter is vegan with some allergies and they were very good and telling her what was in the various dishes.

Lovely atmosphere, attentive happy staff, lovely authentic food. Tables facing the barbican so can see the hassle n bussle outside whilst enjoying a romantic meal.

Ordered. Pad Thai. The taste was over seasoned. Had no individual flavours. Have eaten this in many places . Not authentic at all For a Thai Restaurant Will not go back. Suphas is the place to go . Never fails to disappoint

Tonight's experience was terrible. The curry was very salty and had no sauce. It was a very dry curry. I had to return the curry and wait 20 minutes for it to be ready. Their stir-fry veg and pineapple rice were “stone cold”. No wonder we were the only customers in there.

5 adults ate, had starters and main courses, soft drinks and 2 bottles of wine £150. Service was excellent with very friendly staff. Every person agreed the food was excellent will definitely be back

Popped in for a meal, after seeing a matinee at the theatre yesterday. I would thoroughly recommend this restaurant. The two ladies, front of house were excellent in taking our orders and delivering our food. The food was beautiful, full of flavour, light and fresh. We will definitely be returning. Thanks for some tasty dishes.

Came to visit Plymouth from the US and went to The Thai House for dinner one night. This restaurant is a gem! Delicious, spicy food and friendly service. Exactly what we needed on a cold, rainy night. Highly recommend the green curry with mixed seafood and the Basil Stir Fry. Absolutely delicious!

Good staff Food is awful. The sea food curry was more like a soup. All 4 had bad meals. Much better available.

Very good indeed, tasty and flavourful. Have been many times over the years and I'm never disappointed. Thought it was time I left a review! Delicious and reasonably priced.

When fish and chips diet starts to get too repetitive, head to Thai food! Try a spicy stir-fried pork basil with rice topped with a fried egg, and there you’ll have a moment of satisfying Thai taste. The portion is generous. I left the restaurant full and happy. Also props to the server lady! She’s fantastic

Good place for Thai food in Plymouth

I lived in London for 23 years and frequently went out and tried different thai places, this is still somehow easily the best thai food I've had, I had the Chicken Pad Thai and Chicken Satay.

OK but not keen on the monkfish with skin on.

Eaten here a few time and always found the food to be good. This visit, the food was more tasty than normal. Presentation better, portion size better. Service was really good. Great job

We visited this restaurant whilst staying in Plymouth for the weekend, I can honestly say it was absolutely delicious- I had the red Thai curry, my husband and friends had the massaman with beef, and chicken, the food was absolutely perfect as was the excellent customer service - we all felt very looked after by lovely friendly staff and will definitely be back! Thank you all!

Ordered spring rolls, fried noodles & chicken pad thai. After about 40 minutes, had to ask what was the hold up? When it did eventually come, chicken was burnt and hard, noodles were chewy, par-boiled and salty. Servers never once asked if we were ok, or showed any interest in service. Poor all round.

The food is out of the world. 100% you must go here. Great restaurant, great staff & affordable. I would have given you 10 stars if possible ✨️

Prawn Tom yum (hot) was as good as any I have tasted in Thailand. Penang chicken was really fresh and well presented. And Singha on draught!!! Great service front of house and great to see a Thai chef in the kitchen. The whole experience was fantastic!

Really authentic Thai meal in a friendly restaurant the Tom Yum soup was absolutely delicious I will certainly visit again when I’m next in Plymouth also very good value for money so definitely worth a visit

Popped in on an off-chance after a day out on the Barbican. Fantastic food as always and reasonably priced.

The massaman short rib of beef was sublime. Fish was so so fresh. Definitely will be back.

We ate Panang Curry and Red Curry with fish. Both dishes were amazing! We went again the next evening as the taste of the dishes was so good. We can highly recommend this thai restaurant! It is very authentic and the food tastes heavenly. Wir waren schon in einigen Thai restaurants und haben auch schon Urlaub in Thailand gemacht! Das Essen hier war unglaublich lecker und sehr authentisch! Wir können es jedem empfehlen dort essen zu gehen! Die Gerichte sind außergewöhnlich und vor allem die Fischgerichte haben uns begeistert!

It takes a lot for me to give a 5 star review because I like things to be very good. I have had a lot of take aways from this restaurant which have all been delicious however the dining experience was even better as you get to see the beautiful presentation of the food on a plate and perhaps order dishes which you wouldn’t have on a take away. As an example we had the seafood platter which was not only cooked to perfection but with a delicious sauce you could dip perfectly cooked scallops, king prawns and mussels into! The deconstructed monkfish patang curry was an utter delight ….beautiful perfect fillets of monkfish wrapped in a banana leaf parcel of deliciousness with the pouring sauce next to it. It’s nice to experience a dish presented slightly different to what we would expect. The vegetarian starter platter was also fabulous, I am not vegetarian but one of my fellow diners was, mushroom skewers with a peanut sauce and homemade vegetable spring rolls….I can’t wait to order this myself! Nice champagne served in a good glass….so important! Lovely smiley staff who were kind and you could tell genuinely wanted to look after you! Every table was full with a nice atmosphere. Cant wait to go back.

Absolutely gorgeous Thai food. Very authentic and extremely tasty. The dishes are traditional but with modern twists using good produce and flavours. The staff and chef made us feel very welcome thank you for a fabulous evening and wonderfully delicious Thai food!

What a beautiful welcome to Plymouth (despite the heavy rain). The food was mouthwateringly good. The salmon pangang curry made the tastebuds dance as did the homemade spring rolls and cake. The staff were extremely friendly, knowledgeable about their food and did not rush the meal. Thank goodness the service charge was not automatic. They deserved (and received) more than the standard 12 percent. Highly recommend this restaurant.

We had a reunion meal at the Thai House in June (2023), a large group of us getting together to remember our trips to SE Asia. The cuisine at the Thai House was fantastic, truly authentic. Great, lively atmosphere and excellent service from the staff, indeed really engaging folk. Highly recommend the Thai House.

We had dinner at this place and ordered quite a few things to eat. It was the bank holiday weekend and the restaurant was packed. The chicken satay was tasty and delicious. Tried the prawns and squid but it was more like a deep fried kfc coated squid which I did not expect. The Tom yum soup was not bad except that it was too tangy but the spice level was good. Talking about the main course - the Thai green curry was too thick and felt like coconut paste coated with veggies. A bit of a curry style would have been better. The sea bass was well made with crispy vegetables. I really liked that !! Overall I would recommend a few things to try here but some of the dishes requires a bit of tweaks to make it more authentic. The service was taking way too long as only 1 or 2 people were serving, cleaning and taking orders.

Been to many Thai restaurants all over uk and this one food and service was exceptional , been to Thai house few years ago and I think now it’s new owners but was amazed on quality of food and service, will certainly be returning

Amazing experience with food as great as Thailand itself. A highlight of the Plymouth dining scene, don't expect 5 star glitz and glamour with a red carpet laid out for you type of treatment, but you will get 5 star authentic Thai food which for me is the most important thing, hats off to the chefs at The Thai House!

Nice little restaurant, helpful staff and friendly

Used to regularly eat or have takeaway here years ago, had a bad experience a year or so ago and have not eaten there since. Ordered takeaway this evening, not anywhere near the quality standard it used to be but still as relatively expensive as it used tio be. Garlic beef was not good, rest of the food tasty but nowhere near as wonderful as it used to be, prawn crackers portion was tiny. Overall wouldn't recommend.

I was visiting Plymouth, have not been here for years! New owners, o think they said that they have owned for 2 years plus. Food was tasty, recommend the prawn pad Thai!

The Thai green beef curry was cooked as the Thai people would cook it and I really really really enjoyed. I have found another favourite restaurant.

Fantastisches Essen, alles war hervorragend zubereitet, frisch und lecker. Hat mich kurz nach Thailand versetzt. Die Bedienung ist sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend. Die Preise gehen gerade für britische Verhältnisse absolut in Ordnung, habe noch einen ordentlichen Rabatt für Take away bekommen. Gerne wieder.

Great Thai restaurant and very friendly and welcoming staff. We had chicken satay to start (a classic and this was delicious) and then I had the jumbo prawns in chilli and lime. Spicy but absolutely fantastic. Really well flavoured and great with a bowl of plain rice. Had some veg in the dish as well, but honestly the prawns were incredibly plump in their skins and tasted great. Straightforward drinks menu and I would definitely come back again. Thanks!

Really nice restaurant. Prices alright and food was amazing. I haven't tried a lot of stuff on the menu but noodles and rice I highly recommend. Also Thai food never as spicy as Indian so food full of flavour. Downside: it's tiny

When you ask for hot you get hot! I love spicy curry, I had the Red Thai curry with pineapple and chicken, It was really nice! We also had vegetable fried rice, very fresh nicely bronzed fresh grilled tomatoes! Followed by king prawn with ginger and spring onion with rice noodles dish costing over £12 and only had 4 prawns I think it should be a standard of 6 prawns at least for the extra cost. Non the less this was a very nice meal, very fresh and tasty.

Amazing food! Dropped in as a large group at short notice earlier this week..everyone liked it so much that we booked to return and had another delicious meal! The one vegetarian in our midst was impressed at the choice for them. Very friendly welcome, very obliging about splitting the bill. Thank you so much and look forward to next time!

The 5 star review stand true. Extremely friendly host, nice atmosphere (really modernly decorated). The food was extremely fast to be delivered, ordered King Prawns as starters and Pad Thai as a main. Hands down one of the best Thai food that I have had, definitely rivals other Thai places in Plymouth (Mr Wok). Left very satisfied with the quality and portion of food given. I left feeling extremely full. Would highly recommend to anyone interested in trying a new restaurant or a lover of Thai food.

A highly recommended Thai restaurant, their dishes are very strongly Thai, whether it's the Tom Yum Kung soup or the curry, they are very much in line with all perceptions of Thai food. It’s worth mentioning that their fried river rice noodles are excellent. I think it is the best among the main dishes.

Great food and service. We were a party of 9 and the upstairs room was superb and gave us our own private dining experience.

Excellent food. Had the Satay chicken skewers for a starter. Sweet and Sour King prawns and Fried rice. Staff was friendly and attentive.

Superb Thai restaurant! My personal favourites were the Thai fish cakes and the fantastic coconut rice with my prawn and pineapple curry. We’ll definitely come again!

Travelling alone for work so always wary of loud places. This little restaurant was perfect with just enough choice on the menu, food cooked perfectly and great service. I went early, mid-week and it soon got busy so booking is probably needed for peak times. Will definitely return.
