The Thai Classic in Birmingham

Ordered via Uber eats. Honestly you’re better off with a ready meal as this, with the prices they charge, is insanity. May be better in person, but far better Thai places.

This is a gem! Decor is neutral so you know you're paying mainly for the food, as it should be. Everything is prepared fresh. Mine took a few minutes but it was delicious. The portions are very generous! I ordered a soup expecting a starter portion and the bigger curry with a side of rice. Ended up eating what could feed two people - but it was all delicious and the price is very reasonable. Seems to be a family business, it's next to the fresh food market, and full of East Asians. The staff were very friendly in a genuine way.

We ordered deliveroo for this meal, Tomyum soup is missing and the morning glory dish is super tiny but it is charging for £11+, which is not acceptable. We called the restaurant to follow up but they just giving excuse.

Really good authentic Thai kitchen and it's not that expensive. We booked our table over the phone but it wasn't necessary as there was few free tables available. We ordered a pot of tea and few dishes. Food was served the way that we could share and enjoy all the food. Nicely dressed up plates and lovely atmosphere. We loved our food, pad Thai, morning glory and creamy chicken soup which was slightly too salty. We obviously tried mango sticky rice and it was little bit disappointing as mango wasn't very ripe and rice was quite hard and it's texture was strange just like it was mixed with corn flour. We loved it overall and would be back to try other dishes.

Great food at very reasonable prices right in the heart of the China quarter. Great service and really tasty food. Very good value for money.

First up, the stir-fried river noodles with prawns. This is a very authentic stir-fry, with a smokier, chewier texture that some people may not be used to, but that’s the traditional taste. The prawns were perfectly cooked and refreshing. There were also dried chili flakes and crushed peanuts on the side. Remember to squeeze some lime juice and mix it in before eating, it adds more layers of flavor. The slightly sweet taste is also well-suited to local preferences. I really care about the freshness of the ingredients, as this greatly impacts the overall impression of the dish. Next, my green curry with chicken arrived. The coconut milk was wonderfully fragrant and it came with Thai eggplant, but the chicken was a little overcooked. Next time, I’d like to try it with prawns instead. The green curry was delicious and went perfectly with rice, with just the right portion size. The Tom Yum Goong soup with rice noodles had a nice flavor. I’d suggest eating it with rice noodles as they soak up the soup really well. It could have been a bit more aromatic and spicy though. The mango sticky rice looked great, with the sticky rice infused with pandan, giving it a light pandan fragrance. However, there wasn’t enough coconut milk, so the sweetness was a bit lacking. Since mangoes are out of season, the fruit wasn’t as sweet, which made the dessert a bit disappointing.

Food was bland with no spice or seasoning. I’ve eaten Panang cooked by a Thai person loads of times. The flavour of the curry was there but as stated there was no spice or seasoning.

This Thai restaurant is amazing! The Pad Kra Pao was full of flavor, with just the right amount of spice. The Tom Yum Goong was fresh and tangy, with juicy prawns. I previously put a good review but have had to change it after the last disastrous meal. The food came out cold, with cold plates. The beef was fatty and all the main course was cold. I am very disappointed after how down hill this place has gone. The staff were not very friendly.

Llegué temprano y estaba nervioso cuando vi la puerta de entrada de vidrio agrietado y un cartel que decía solo efectivo. El personal era amable y servicial en todo y los precios eran razonables para la ciudad central. Pedí el plato de anacardo que pagas £ 2 extra por la carne de tu elección. Pensé que el pollo era una apuesta segura pero me equivoqué. Era desagradable. No es fresco y no tengo ni idea de en qué se cocina o cómo se cocina, pero lo dejé todo aparte de las dos piezas que probé. Mi amiga dijo que su tailandés estaba bien pero grasiento. Los visitantes no se quejaron de su tofu. Me decepcionó ya que me encanta la comida tailandesa - nunca he probado pollo así!

Great find! We love Thai food and pick one place to visit each time we travel. We liked the pictures on google and the reviews were good. We ordered the pineapple rice and pad Thai and my goodness they were amazing ! If you are in Birmingham you must pop in and try! We also got the beef Bao bun which was delicious! Price was really good to! They take cash or transfer only. So make sure you are prepared.

Authentic Thai food and a lovely team of staff. Particularly love the papaya salad. Thoroughly enjoyed our meal there though would rank it on the pricier end of the scale. However, would 10/10 return to sample other items on the menu.

Ordered a curry, got a soup (which apparently was the curry). Left the rice because I got a soup! Air conditioning was on very cold full blast pointed directly down on the customer. Cash only.

A really nice local Thai food place with plenty of inexpensive options including excellent curries. The service is really good and fast, and the general decor is neat. In particular I'd commend the waitresses Wisy, Wawa, and Natalie for the great service the restaurant provides.

Bao bun was delicious, and the Silken Tofu in the stir fry was beautifully cooked, packed with flavour, excellent. Side note, I know it's not traditional but would love the curries to be vegan.

Had a quick lunch here, shared a platter and had a veg green curry. My friend had a spicy beef dish with rice which looked great. Definitely recommend. Cash only but theres plenty of cash points nearby. Lychee juice also was soo fresh and tasty😋

Great little place. Service was friendly, food was great, only thing was the carrot garnish was a bit rotten. Entrance was a bit tight so if disabled or if with movement it might be a struggle to get in the door. Would recommend for everyone

I don't understand why this place has such a high score. I ordered vegan pad Thai and it was absolutely disgusting, tasting and smelling of old oil. Almost only oil, no taste of pad Thai. The "flower" garnish looked so old that If I had to guess they reuse it and put it from one plate to another. No taste, no color, I looked at other tables - everything looked brownish/grayish, just sad. And the tables are sticky.

It's good value for money in city centre. Nice & friendly service. Great portions and lovely food presentation. Would come again!

Cash only written in the door meant we had to search our pockets before coming in and think more than we would have wanted to as when we booked online, we were not made aware of this. However, the food is more than made up for it! I had a delicious pad Thai and my partner a tofu cashew nuts and rice with the lychee juice! The food was fresh, delicious, and authentic and, in my opinion, better than all the Birmingham chains. We will be back to this little gem! Hopefully, we'll be able to get a table!

Went for my birthday on 01/03/24 and what a lovely experience! Food came quickly & was delicious. Servers were smiling the whole time and so friendly. They even surprised me with a birthday dessert and didn’t charge for it! 10/10

Having experienced the Thai cuisine at The Thai Classic, it's safe to say it stands out as one of the best in the UK. We went mid afternoon on a Sunday, lots of free tables. The food was beautiful, the service fantastic and it was a lovely restaurant. There's a car park opposite, £7 for three hours.

Been a couple of times, food is good with good portion sizes and I especially love the green Thai tea! The service is good and quick.

I went there for dinner with my friend and I gotta say that it was a really decent experience. We ordered a set dinner for two which was around £20 per person. The portion of food was beyond generous (we literally took a takeaway box for the leftover green chicken curry!) and we genuinely enjoy the taste of them, the idea of having a taste of a bit of everything is nice too. The service was pretty great, as well as the atmosphere. Would definitely come visit again!

Cash only! If only this restaurant was placed more closer to Birminghams City Centre, it would definitely be more of a hit. It’s quite away from the city centre and the “china town”. However definitely worth the visit! The portions are so generous. I only had a main meal to myself but even that I struggled to finish. Food was so tasty, and worth the price.

Went to this restaurant with friends.The service was great, nice environment and great location. They had some of the best ribs I have ever tried, the only downside for me was the red thai curry wasn't as rich as other thai restaurants I have tried, little bit too spicy and the sauce was thin. It also came out 10 minutes after other dishes. Do give this place a try though.

We went to @the_thai_classic a lovely Thai restaurant in Birmingham. It truly made us feel at home 🇹🇭. I ordered rice noodles with fish curry sauce (ขนมจีนน้ำยาป่า) and my husband tried the Panang chicken with rice (แพนงไก่). The food was absolutely delicious! Also, the staff were polite. Don’t forget to try - butterfly pea lychee soda. Trust me, it's amazing! ❤️🍹 ❤️ highly recommend x

Ate here around 4pm on a weekday. We ordered Green curry chicken, papaya salad, shrimp cake, crispy pork and pork skewers. In hindsight, I wish we had ordered less. The pork skewers were disappointing. The pork was old and chewy. Not soft and juicy as you would expect from meat that had been skewered on a grill. I suspect it was not fresh. The shrimp cakes were also a let down. They weren’t the thin crispy shrimp pancake with a serving of syrup that we were looking forward to. Instead they looked like they had been bought as a packet and cooked from frozen. The green curry chicken did not taste authentic enough. It was spicy which is fine, but it lacked the deep coconut flavour you expect from this dish. Instead it had a small drizzle of coconut milk on the surface of the sauce which seemed to have been put there in an effort to decorate. The crispy pork dish lacked crispiness and the, leaving the papaya salad as the better dish from the lot. Overall, disappointed with the food. The price was reasonable, but if the food’s not right, then none of that matters. I only know 2 other Thai places in Brum, the one on the 1st floor of the Asian food hall market is so far the best.

This is the best Thai restaurant in the city. The food was great and authentic. Staff were professional and friendly. The service was perfect and fast. We had Poh Tak, duck tamarind sauce, holy basil, and durian crepe. Poh Tak is the best we have ever tried in the city.

I went to this tastefully decorated Thai Restaurant in Chinatown last week, and had a really enjoyable and delicious lunch. The seating was spacious and comfortable, and the food was authentic, well-presented and generously portioned. I had the Chicken Skewers to start, which came with a couple of dips that really complemented the chicken. Main course was Beef Massaman Curry with Thai Jasmine Rice, and this again didn't disappoint, with the first bite as tasty as the last. With friendly and helpful servers, and serene music playing in the background, this hidden gem will have me coming back whenever I crave some authentic Thai cuisine. The prices were more than reasonable too. Highly recommended.

Very nice experience here today. The waitress was very efficient 🙂 and the food was lovely we got a set menu a plate of starters, a huge bowl of rice, massive curry and a beer stir fry for £39 we both left full and the food was scrumptious 😋 flavourful and cooked to perfection.

Me and my partner spotted this new Thai restaurant and decided to try it recently. The staff were friendly and the decor was lovely and created a very traditional, calm setting. As we were one of two tables, our food also arrived very quickly. I ordered the thai milk tea and my partner ordered the same but with green tea and both were so nice! We both ordered curry and my partner's was nice but my beef green curry wasn't amazing as the beef pieces were too big and very chewy (I chewed some pieces for so long that I just felt sick and spat it out in the end - apologies for the graphic description). We also ordered the thai pudding with coconut topping for dessert - it wasn't what I was expecting. I'm not a big fan of coconut but the dessert sounded traditional so wanted to try it instead of the mango crepe that we originally thought to order and as it said "coconut topping", I thought it'd just be the top of the pudding that had coconut pieces but the whole pudding tasted of coconut, which I was dissapointed about. All in all, I think this place is worth another try, maybe I just ordered the wrong dishes for my own personal preferences this time around.
