With so many great reviews I expected more. Food is ok but not amazing. The place is nice in Brixton Village. Service is slow

Our go place to anytime we go out in Brixton. Love the casual vibe, excellent food (seasonal menu which changes regularly) and friendly service. In fact so consistently excellent, The Tapas Room is actually one of my favourite restaurants in London.

Whenever we can’t decide where to eat we fall back on our favourite restaurant in Brixton, The Tapas Room. After seven years of eating here, it’s genuinely the best it’s ever been…incredible energy in the service and Marcello cooking contemporary Basque inspired dishes with British seasonality. Albariño & Crianza, prawn croquetas, padrons and fantastic octopus and potatoes, what’s not to love. Best still to come with an amazing Boquerones pintxo on sourdough topped with sofrito…can’t recommend it more highly. Treat from the kitchen of Picos blue cheese & figs rounded things off to perfection. The passion for seasonal ingredients, supporting small farmers and turning their produce into brilliant dishes. We feel super valued as guests and will continue to go back for more!

We wanted an early, quick meal and booked a table for 5 o’clock. It was quiet enough at that time but it looked as if they were fully booked (or almost) later on, judging by the number of tables with reserved signs on them. The food was really delicious, especially the pan con tomate with jamon, the goat’s cheese and the beef cheek, (so good we ordered a second one). The wine and cava were very good value and the staff were really lovely. Definitely worth a visit, and we will be back.

One girl in the staff (probably floor manager) was so rude and aggressive against some other waitress (I believe being a new trainee) and us (clients). My mom went in to say thanks to the other girl and ahe followed her to ask her out thinking we were trying to sneak in. She was bitter and spiteful in the way she was speaking and shouted at us with a disgusted and irritated face when leaving. I would be embarrassed to have such staff! I get weekends are stressful but if that frustrates staff so much they shouldn’t be in hospitality, which revolves around welcoming people in. Never had a worse experience with staff being rude and controlling.

Went as two couples. This is a tapas bar on high stools, not high end restaurant. But don’t let that stop you. We will be back. Really great and very friendly staff. Food was delicious and not costly. Wine too, £31 for a bottle of red.

Me and my friend wanted a bite as we were hungry but wanted nothing too heavy on the stomach so we came past here and decided to dine here. The staff initially said there was no space and then asked us how long we was gonna be as they’re fully booked. So luckily we managed to sit in. The Octopus tapas was really nice and the octopus was juicy! The mushroom and egg bread was okay. Personally I feel like the portion was tiny ( I understand this is tapas but it’s very expensive and 2 plates was not enough for 2…) They changed their menu the following time I went and I was searching for the octopus but it was not available. Not much of a customer service chit chat environment but is definitely a good spot for friends to have a light bite and to chat!

First time to this Tapas bar and second Tapas venue in a fortnight. The staff are friendly and attentive. If you like salt you will be in seventh heavan here. Pervades dishes like their Padron peppers (an old Martha Stewart recipe) where salt is granted a key part of the dish, but it turns up on others, the fish dishes in particular. The sourdough bread is for the brave. Teeth beware. A real treat is the salt fish croquettes....remember Smash?! This is four smash balls fried in a light crumb. The salt fish appeared to have done a runner. At £30 plus a head for a drink and a modicum of dishes, Tapas still feels like style over substance. Value for money wise it remains elusive. In Brixton one cant but feel a jamaican party and a beer for a fraction of the price would serve just as well.

I always love the vibe in Brixton village and as a lover of tapas had wanted to try The Tapas Room for some time. Although happy with the food regrettably we report that we found the surly and unwelcoming approach from the waiting staff very off putting. On that basis would not revisit.

We visited The Tapas room on a Friday night and had an excellent time. The food and wine selection was spot on and we very much enjoyed the vibrant atmosphere in Brixton village. Thank you also to Robert who looked after us and suggested some fantastic wines, he was very welcoming and friendly and made our night. I will definitely be stopping by again next time I’m near, I thoroughly recommend the Tapas room in Brixton.

Great tapas, not the common style of tapas, the flavours were delicious. The wine was very good too, white, fresh, smooth. Very friendly waiter and chef who took the time to explain the dishes and where they are sourced.

The Tapas Room is, I think, a franchise currently spreading around South London. Its first branches in Deptford and Tooting Broadway Markets, this latest branch on the ground floor of Brixton Village which is, yes, you've guessed it, another market. The next opening promises to...

I had wanted to try Carmen Tapas for such a long time but was very disappointed by the experience. I shared a selection of 3 tapas and the vegetarian paella. The tapas were alright, the manchego croquetas were particularly nice but the patatas bravas were just bland potato’s with a sauce on the side which we felt was strange. Moving on to the paella - it was DISGUSTING. It was completely bland and tasteless and the vegetables used in it looked suspiciously like the cheap vegetable mix of green beans, carrots and peas that you can get it any supermarket. I can’t believe that was £30 for tasteless, frozen mush!!!! The service was also not great as we couldn’t see a member off staff to request the dish be changed and not once were we asked if everything was okay with the food. Additionally, this can’t be very popular as we were one of three tables at 7pm on a Saturday Would not recommend.
