Lovely place, staff really good, quality food at good prices, good selection of drinks. Great beer garden with children’s play area.

It’s not a carvery, it’s a plated dinner. Don’t advertise it as a carvery. The Turkey was dry, the beef was raw and the teaspoon of mash you put on my plate was cold. That’s before we get to the black hair on the cabbage. Very disappointing. If there had been a member of staff visible I would have given feedback in person but sadly the service was also non existent.

Four of us had Sunday carvery here today. The whole experience exceeded our expectations in terms of food quality, portion size and service. The price was reasonable too. The young staff were amazing and the pub is so attractive with a large beer garden. We’d travelled from South Yorkshire and Worcester and we will be back. Excellent all round. Phil Kirk.

Was up this way on business and picked here to stay. Such an amazing choice that was too! Amazing service at check in, great size room with fab amenities and a restaurant with a huge choice of food that is great quality. Highly recommended to stay here above others in the area for sure.

My husband and I experienced the most warm and friendly hospitality at The Tap House today. We popped in for a carvery and local ale. We were welcomed as soon as we walked in. The staff that looked after us (two ladies behind the bar) are so friendly, so helpful. The food was like nothing else. Freshly cooked, vibrant fresh veg. So incredibly tasty. We both said that if we were at home, we'd have licked the plates clean! We had dessert too, apple and rhubarb crumble with custard. Again, absolutely gorgeous! We 100% recommend The Tap House. Food, atmosphere, staff, local ale. What more could you ask for. Tempted to move to Smisby to have this gem as our local. There are a lot of restaurants and gastro pubs that could learn a lot from this incredible place. Cannot wait to return!

So lucky to have this gem nearby, always welcoming, delicious food, never had a bad meal here. Pie night is incredible as is the roast dinner! Homely too, cannot fault.

Excellent lunchtime carvery, service was excellent as was the taphouse. Went for the lunchtime carvery deal £16.95 for a carvery meal and a desert, supported by some of the ale from the onsite Leatherbritches brewery, had a pint of "whole lot of rosey". Carvery was one of the best I've tasted with ample amount of veg, roast and mash potatoes with a nut roast and goals cheese. Not usually a fan of carverys but if they were like this I would definitely have more! Finished off with some Barwell tart and a good sized jug of custard. Would highly recommend the taphouse and the staff and will return, especially when having another order of the 5 litre barrel of Leatherbritches lemongrass and ginger ale

Good home cooked Sunday lunch. Can't fault it. Excellent service. Went in seated in moments. Hardly any wait drinks and food served.

The whole atmosphere of the room and the pub/restaurant was fabulous. The staff were friendly and accommodating. The restaurant had a great ambience, great staff, and great food with a good selection at reasonable prices. The room was comfortable and clean. There was also a Bible in the room, which meant a great deal to us, especially since our stay was over the Easter weekend. We met the owner by chance on the day that we were leaving, and he was very friendly and genuine, and you could tell that he was very proud of his business, which is reflected in the exceptional service and accommodation. Thank you to all!

I had the Gammon with pineapple, best I've had. Setting is nice. Our server was lovely. Candle lit table was a nice touch. Dog friendly

Went there today 24th March 2024 for Sunday carvery. Big plates full of food. Gets busy on Sunday. Lovely location & a micro brewery as well.

Just had a meal and it was delicious thank you to the. Staff for being so kind and friendly.will be going back again soon the outing was for my wife’s. 92years birthday thank you very much again

Would like it better if they did smaller portions for adults,not everyone can eat large meals

A fantastic lunch and service on new years day for our last minute booking. The staff were so welcoming and accommodating, amazing service! Food was superb too! We'll definitely be back. :)

Greeted with a smile by the owner and all the staff followed by a top quality Sunday Roast. One of the best meals I have had in a long time.

Not one to write reviews but fell there was a need. A mix up with our booking was eventually resolved and we were shown to a rather cramp table for 6 people. My chair was collapsing and downright dangerous and replaced at my request. 6 roast meals arrived as ordered, luke warm and with no apple, cranberry or bread sauce offer. The food was tasteless, veg a little raw particularly the cabbage which was served in large pieces of leaf. For £16 plus a meal they really need to up their game. My disappointment was given to the waitress in charge who kindly took it on board and told the kitchen staff but that was it. Definitely poor value and disappointing for the £85 plus we spent of food alone. We didn’t stay for deserts and I definitely won’t be back. A reluctant one star🤷‍♀️

Dropped in for a bite to eat Saturday afternoon at 4pm. Lovely log fire and friendly bar staff. Waited until 5 for the evening food service and ordered the venison (£23) and two other meals. The venison was totally over cooked and had no seasoning or flavour at all. Small portion but wouldn’t have been an issue if what I had eaten was reflected in the price. Fish and chips and children’s chicken were in a very strange batter that was over cooked and had a burnt taste. The fish was dry and again over cooked. Chips were lovely with the fish and chips, the only saving Grace. Addressed the issue with the waitress who might I add was fantastic with our son and a lovely girl but had no idea how to handle complaints. The atmosphere changed drastically when the landlady/owner came in to sit down.. the staff appeared very on edge. Such a nice pub but felt as if they were charging city gastro prices. Presentation was lovely but they need to deliver on quality before we will return. Such a shame.

Carvery was really nice, would recommend. Their crumble was very odd, more like a sponge. Mentioned to waiter but don't think it was taken on board. Service was efficient and friendly.

Fantastic value on the Pie night. You'll have to go a long way to find a better pie. Only grouse is I ordered 2 scoops of ice cream... don't expect the usual scoop of ice cream, think more of a scoop using a melon baller. For the cost of ice cream the portions served were miserable. Everything else excellent!!

Staff are very friendly and welcoming, nothing is too much trouble for them. We ate in the pub both nights of our stay and we weren’t disappointed, food is fantastic! Overall, I will certainly recommend the Taphouse and if we find ourselves in the area again I will definitely look at staying here.

Taco Tuesday!!!! Incredible food, we shared the promotional Mexican food and drink specials between 5 friends and were blown away with the quality and taste of the food! Amazing value, I’ll be back for that corn, tostadas and tacos!

Lovely pub for a drink in the country

Arrived on time and shown to our table by courteous staff member. We ordered drinks while waiting for food to arrive. Food was quickly brought to table; myself and my daughter had the Steak & Ale pie from the carvery menu while my wife had the turkey and granddaughter had the same but without meat. I have to say the meat in the pie was very well cooked indeed but oh, my, we all agreed the gravy tasted disgusting. We skipped desserts as I wanted a VERY strong coffee to take away the taste. We all agreed the food was possibly the worst we had ever tasted. Happy Fathers Day to me!!! We won’t be returning anytime soon.

Chose to stay here rather than premier inn to support smaller businesses. Travelled for work. The food was exceptional as was the staff and the room was nice and tidy. A little air noise from east Midlands but that doesn't bother me.

The food was excellent, the atmosphere good... but what amazed me was watching a waitress clear a table of 6 and wipe all the spilled food that was left on the table, peas and gravy etc onto the chairs and floor.. This let the place down.

Great campervan stopover with friendly staff and great beer! 👍 We never ate but the carvery looked lovely! There's plenty of seating areas inside and out, so don't worry about room! We booked last minute on the same night, our room was small and basic but clean and comfortable - and the room rate is very good value. The pub/restaurant is very homely with a nice atmosphere and we found the food to be lovely home cooked pub grub. Staff very friendly too. We’re passing through but if we’re back in the area, The Taphouse will be our go to, we liked it a lot here.

We went along for a quiet breakfast this week. The food was amazing, and the quality matches their dinner and lunch menu, well worth a visit. All of the food is fresh and locally sourced produce and the service is always met with a smile.

The roast with steak & ale pie was one of the best (if not the best) roast dinner I've ever had! The malt ale went down wonderfully with it. I want to go back now! :)

Very nice old public house with a modern twist. The staff were excellent and nothing was too much trouble. The menu was extensive and caters for most requirements. I will be returning again in the future as i thought it was a nice pub in a lovely setting. I would recommend a visit if you are in the area.

My wife and I stayed here for one night. It was a great choice. The bed was comfortable, everything was clean. We had an excellent stay.

My wife is disabled and uses a wheelchair. There is no disabled toilet and the cubicles in the ordinary toilet are too narrow for a wheelchair. As a man I should not have to take my wife into the ladies toilet. There was no paper towel and the electric drier was too high for a wheelchair user. The food was excellent and we would like to go again but cannot as things stand. I have made a complaint to the council.

Recently moved to Ashby - first time ordering over the phone, the chap was ace! I said I’d be around 6 or 7 minutes, got there, but daunting for me going in ( suffer from depression and anxiety) but OMG! How nice where the people dinning/drinking there. Greeted with smiles and an old lovely man ask how I am ( didn’t even know me) proceed to the dining area, again greeted with smiles & so polite! Order was ready, paid, and a chap with a baby again , thanked me for coming and said bye, again never been there or met anyone before. The food - Amazing! Just perfect! They have gained 3 new regulars!

Staff were so rude! We asked for a high chair to x3 different members of staff and didn't get one so went and found our own! Took 30 mins just to get a drinks order placed and food plus were told we only had 1 hrs 30 for the table when we booked! Half the food was cold then when asking a staff member for a pot of sauce she slammed it on the table with a face on her.Safe to say we won't be going again and would advise managers to sort their staff out!

Came here after visiting Charnwood Forest. We treated ourselves to the Carvery and a pudding and it was fantastic. The food was perfect and the staff were great. A very cosy and lovely country pub/bar.

A great pub with its own micro brewery, a fab beer festival and good food. Large interior plus plenty of outdoor seating, and a marquee extension to the restaurant area too. Dog friendly and has a small play area outside for kids.

Excellent ale and a welcome warm atmosphere

We live a short distance from The Tap House but have only just got around to trying the place. We've since been on a couple of occasions but it won't alas be a regular haunt for us. On a positive note the pie night can be recommended. It was not exactly refined but for the price it is hard to argue with. Decent mash with a tray style pie with absolutely loads of meat. Again a couple of bits of the stewing steak weren't the best but overall its hard to argue with what you get. Our main issue is the pub itself is in a time warp and is frankly a bit grotty. Its stuck in the 70s and in need of a revamp in every possible way. We also found the staff to be ok but clearly there are regulars who get the attention, on both occasions we were practically ignored. Its just not a place to go and chill out for the night. We ate and left almost immediately. Shame but I'm sure they won't care about our lost custom which is sort of the problem they will face attracting new regulars.

Great place and quite possibly the best pie I have ever eaten!!! Came as a birthday party in the marquee , as opposed to a sit down meal, and the food was help yourself 'big tray' pies held under a warming lamp so I was really just expecting something to fill the gap - as that's all that was needed. Wow! All of the food was well, well above that! Huge great big chunks of pure beef steak, not a single ounce of fat or gristle (which is always a fear with steak pie!). I then tried the chicken and ham and that was equally filled to the brim with top quality meat. Plenty of chips, mash, peas and gravy to go with it. I left seriously impressed (and full!). Thank you The Taphouse!

Has its own brewery. Smart place, cosy inside, plenty of staff and the food was good. Sunday dinner is a carvery delivered to your table. They have a pie night on a Wednesday. Well behaved dogs welcome. Would recommend.

This is a classic country pub. We came off the motorway and went here for lunch. They allow dogs in the bar and the marquee, but not in the restaurant area. The lunch was a very reasonably priced two course carvery, with a choice of having a starter or a pudding with it. The mushroom soup was ace. The mains were huge! Definitely no complaints on portion size! And a bucket of gravy! The steak and ale pie was really good, a slice of proper homemade pie. The lemon meringue roulade was excellent too, nice and light, and a lovely way to finish the meal.

Juat been to the tap house for sunday lunch. Well what can i say food was ok but not very warm. Husbands turkey was cold roast potatoes were that hard you couldnt cut them needless to say we will not be going again

Room small, walls thin. However adequate for one night. Pub and eating area looked nice. However, no food was available and we were not informed before stay. Bar closed by 9pm so unable to sit with friends for a drink after having to find another place to eat. Not really what your led to believe before booking. Its a shame but would not recommend.

No food available and bar closed at 9.00pm despite staying in one of the rooms. No info regarding this prior to arrival. Went elsewhere to eat. Room was small but had everything needed.

No sound proofing in rooms, really noisy. Stayed for 2 days, no food being served at the pub so had to eat elsewhere, came back at 9 pm to have a drink after eating out only to be told the bar was closing. Very poor service all round. Find somewhere else if you can

Visited the tap House for Sunday dinner with my mother.we had the stake and ale pie with all the trimmings.it was absolutely delicious lovely chunks of flavourable beef and pastry.then we had a desert which was absolutely amazing aswell.lovely cosy friendly atmosphere will definitely be coming back in the near future lovely staff.we had amazing night thank you all at the Tap House
