The New Inn in South Derbyshire

We love the food, atmosphere and friendly welcome at the New Inn. The food is always piping hot and consistently good, never a long wait. Lovely canal side location.

Came here a few years ago for a drink and a bite to eat spending mother and daughter time sat out watching the boats go by on the canal it was lovely the food was amazing the service was brilliant

Couldn't get served in there today. It wasn't particularly busy either. Disinterested bar staff who dont look up and just serve whoever elbows their way to the front. Went to the Malt Shovel instead. Much friendlier atmosphere.

Good food and service. Well worth a visit!

burger was just a small burger with a tiny bit of cheese on top for £16 and a MASSIVE LARGE BUN when you do that you can just taste bread but just a burger and tiny bit of cheese (rude ) had to rip the bun apart so wasn’t like just eating bread🙄 did complain they asked what they can do i said you need to change bun, they said what can i do i said well what can you do? and was just left as that. 🤷‍♀️ think i should of been offered a refund really? postive - chips were nice

Came for an 18th birthday meal today, staff were lovely, food was cooked by Martin I believe, the food was gorgeous and huge portions. Will definitely be returning, worth the money!

We have just had a couple of wonderful salad bowls at the New Inn. I couldn't finish my cajun chicken bowl, but hubby polished mine off after finishing his prawn in marie rose sauce bowl...but his stomach is bottomless! Lovely fresh salad ingredients, generous portion of chicken or prawns, nice sized dish of home made coleslaw and warm new potatoes. Can't wait to do it again. Price was well under£30 with a pint of lager and large coke.

Called at The New Inn today whilst out walking and had lunch. The food, a ham cob and chips was absolutely delicious, staff very friendly and great attitude to all customers observed . Shame we didn't have room for a desert but might share a portion of chips next time so we have . Thank you for a lovely experience, we'll definitely be back.

A little disappointed. After hearing many good things about the pub and it's food we finally thought we'd try it out ourselves. The menu has a nice range and is reasonable priced. My partners and sons meal was good but I ordered the pie myself and the pastry was under cooked. But the most disappointing thing was after ordering and eating our main courses (there's no table service offered here) I went back up to the bar to order some desserts only to be told there would be an hour and a half wait. Wait we did not. All in all very mediocre experience which could of been a lot better.

Popped in for a spot of lunch during a 14 mile walk. Team at pub were extremely friendly. Food was lovely, and it was nice to stop for some refreshment.

One of my family’s favourite pubs around! Food is always excellent, staff are always polite and friendly and the atmosphere is definitely inviting. I must recommend the homemade lasagne! Absolutely spot on every time! This place is a must visit for anyone looking for a beautifully cooked lunch or dinner when visiting Derbyshire!

Amazing pub with a great selection of well kept ales, everything you want, lots of guest ales so something from a light beer across the always excellent pedigree and darker porters. Great food. Dog friendly. Defo recommend booking as it's so popular. Camra club friendly

Great canal side pub and they do a brilliant steak.

We Visited few weeks ago first visit was well impressed meal was lovely had hunters chicken. It was a Monday early evening so not very busy when we was there found the barman bit of a character 😀 we throughly enjoyed it.

A group of four senior friends decided to go somewhere different, so we went back to the New Inn after a long absence. We reserved a table over the phone and purchased our drinks, we sat down and went through the menu. I personally didn’t fancy a big meal so went for the light bites Stilton chicken stack, I found it well presented, hot and enough for my appetite. The others had fish and chips, large Stilton chicken and cheesy chicken all found it enjoyable.

Lovely canal pub with a great atmosphere. Dog friendly. Food was a solid 5/5 and it arrived quicky considering the amount of diners they had. It arrived piping hot and was exactly what it stated on the menu. Plenty of options for drinks especially if you are a real ale drinker. Couldn't fault the staff it was really busy and yet they were still attentive to every need of every customer.

So disappointing went out for a nice dinner but that’s not what we got!!! What we did get was a landlady who was snappy and seemed drunk 🥴 the lad behind the bar needed a good shower because his BO was overpowering my chips were cold and my stake was well done when I asked for medium I tried to talk to the young ladies who were supposed to be serving but they were more interested in chatting up the young lads at the bar we left never to return

had Sunday lunch there no complaints,staff were pleasant will be going back again.

I visited the New Inn recently and I highly recommend if you’re looking for some great food! Service was brilliant. I had a lasagne which was delicious! The food is really great value for money. Will definitley be returning here.

Visited The New Inn many times now and I always have the best experience. Great service from all colleagues with the staff being lovely and friendly. There’s an excellent selection of drinks and the food is always delicious, no matter what time of day you choose to eat here. Great value for money, great atmosphere and great food, I will definitely be returning soon!

Went for an early evening meal and drink. Nice atmosphere and welcoming staff. Good selection of beers at middle of the road prices. Good selection of classic pub food, including home made pies. There were four of us, three having prawn cocktail first course and I had the combo for one which consisted of chicken bites, mozzarella bites,onion rings, three dips, some garlic bread and a salad garnish; great value for money at £6.95. Main course we had one stilton chicken stack, one home made meat pie one fish and chips and one chicken ceaser salad. All the food was well presented, big portions and tasty. The only negative was the fish in batter was overcooked and so dry and the batter wasn't the best; everything else excellent. Will definitely go back.

I go here regularly to either have a lovely meal surrounded by amazing staff that are always attentive, or to have drinks with friends/family. I have never ever had a bad experience at this pub, and always feel so comfortable coming in due to how friendly the staff& owners are! The food is so yummy, and the quality is so consistently good!

Loverly food and a great little pub. We were there with the family for diner on Saturday. There was a great selection of ales and a very friendly atmosphere.

BOATERS BEWARE!!! LANDLADY WILL BAR YOU FOR COMPLAINING ABOUT A PINT OF VINEGAR THAT SHOULD BE ALE.... actually will come from home and follow you to the next pub to do so (Loudly)Moored in Shardlow for a little while. These guys were great at first but then all of a sudden money went missing and staff got shifty, landlady can't sort anything other than her next glass of wine... BEWARE IF YOU WANT TO SAY YOUR UNHAPPY YOU'LL BE ASKED TO LEAVE

Nice old fashioned pub with friendly staff

Don’t order the Scampi, it’s not hing but fishy mush in breadcrumbs. Very disappointing as past experience of the pub has been really good.

Lovely old fashioned pub on the canal path, plenty of parking. Food is home cooked and really good with large portions, the homemade chips are fabulous. It's dog friendly and has a lovely outdoor seating area.

Excellent food and service, parking right outside the door and access for wheelchair but a bit tight as it is an old building. Plenty of vegetarian options.

Popped in today after a walk with our dogs. My dogs bark a bit around other dogs but plenty of space to move around outside. The full English breakfast is superb, eggs cooked to perfection and everything spot on. Just wanted to leave a review. The girls that work there are lovely. Thanks peeps we'll be back! 👍👌

Everytime me and my partner come in no matter how quiet the staff always make it a fun evening plus by the canal it is a nice setting.

Popped in on the off chance they had a table free on Saturday early evening. They sorted a table for us, food was beautiful, we both had gammon and all the things that come with it 😂, it was the best gammon meal we have had in a long time, decided to take on pud so we could have it a bit later, that was lovely as well, would definately recommend it. 😊😊😊

We were a group of 8,table had been pre booked. Very busy place, but nice atmosphere. Food came very quickly,considering the amount of diners. Couldn't fault the food, portion were large,and was piping hot. I highly recommend the steak and mushroom pie.... delicious 😋

It's OK, food acceptable, coffee had a little bit of rubber ,looked like from coffee machine ,at bottom of cup ,I didn't bother to mention this so can't comment if they would have responded positively or not . The outdoor area with the seating could have done with a Sweep but nothing major, it's OK and I would likely visit again,nice after a walk along the canal path.

We didn't eat, but it was a lovely spot by the canal and the staff were friendly and attentive.

Really nice, proper home cooked meals which we're fantastic and lot's of it

We booked a table here for 5.30 pm knowing from experience how busy this gem of a pub gets ! Arrived about 5pm and ordered drinks and we were seated at our requested table . ( Other establishments please take note … if a customer requests a certain table then they should expect to be seated there , not somewhere nearby.) We were served our drinks by a very nice , polite young lady ,Evie who reminded us that we couldn’t order food til 5.30pm Creatures of habit we ordered cheesy chicken from the lite bites menu … having pestered Jeremy , another excellent member of staff to take our order . The pub was filling up fast , many people were sitting outside enjoying the delightful view of the canal and barges . We didn’t wait long and soon the meals were in front of us , piping hot as usual. The kitchen staff must be working their socks off ! We would definitely recommend the New Inn to anyone in the area

Great staff, welcoming and friendly

I actually had the Ham n cheese salad! A decent plate of salad, 2 slices of processed ham (disappointing) but overall, very nice. Best of all the young waitress didn't look at me like I was a Martian when I asked if they had salad cream & positively beamed when she said yes!! Will deffo come back!!!

Best fish and chips I've had anywhere! Came here for a quiet drink the other night with my wife and decided to have some food here. Jeremy behind the bar was exceptional; a young lad with impeccable customer service. Professional and courteous. We then ordered fish and chips and the service was A1. No long wait times and the food was hot and fresh. The fish and chips were 10/10. The young lad that came out with the food has got to be mentioned too. Again, exceptional service. Just wonderful to see this kind of thing, as it's a dying art. We spoke to the chef on his way out as it was near the end of the night when we were leaving (Monday 07/08/2023) and commended him on the lovely food. We'll definitely be coming here again and again. A lovely pub with great service. Eat and drink here, and I strongly recommend the fish and chips!

The new in is a old traditional pub with friendly atmosphere , .I had cheesy chicken .with mushrooms and bacon and cheese on top.and salad, The food was excellent. If there was a pattern on the plate I would of scraped it off it was morish. Excellent food 😋 my compliments to the chef 😋. I was enjoying my meal and me and my partner. Sat on table 4 inside where the window was looking out of the window, And I felt a hand brush across my right knee.!!!! my partner was sitting opposite me and I said has I looked under the table, Ive just felt something like a hand brush across my right knee. There was nobody else around table no 4 and nobody on table no 3. Next to us. My partner said has he looked at me , wonder if it's got past history. What ever or who ever it was was friendly. And was letting me know there was a presence. It was strange but didn't scare me. This is when I started to find out the history of the New Inn at shardlow.. I am wondering if there is spirits or ghost present. If anybody else has felt a presence would be interested to get some feed back. Excellent customer service by the young lad. who was serving the food to each table,he had a very pleasant personality.and fantastic smile very helpful and pleasant. Will be back for more food and drinks. New Inn Shardlow. 100per cent worth a visit for food friendly atmosphere. Well done to all the staff excellent. Team work. And food and drinks 🍸 😋 😌 🤗

Went to the new Inn and had a full English breakfast very nice food well presented and freshly cooked included tea or coffee and fresh orange juice and a round of toast too,friendly staff and helpful all in all a great start to the day
