The Tam O'Shanter Inn in South Ayrshire

A funny little place of a Saturday evening , we went after having a meal at a local restaurant . Aesthetically, it feels like a country pub inside . the range of drinks are good , the staff are nice , and the people in there are nice people . The strange thing which I didn't expect was the music choices in there , they were playing classic rock which my partner loved but it wasn't to my taste. I suppose it felt strange because it was aesthetically one thing, and the environment was different to that vastly, not in an intimidating way or anything was just quirky, I suppose , that said we shall return .

Had a meal in the bar today , we opted for the fish and chips @ £14.95and a ham cheese and chicken salad @ £13.95 , fish was soggy and anemic looking served with a small amount of peas and chips , the salad was diabolical with 2 thin slices of cooked ham and a scattering of cheese and a couple of pieces of small diced chicken , baby portion of pale undercooked chips , , certainly went downhill since my last visit and I will not back , rip off

A mighty fine auld pub. Boss venue, great beer, great atmosphere. Always call in when working in the area.

Very lovely place, staff so helpful. Good food, allow dogs in the pub side, restaurant just next door. Cosy atmosphere too.

Great wee place ,run by a lovely family they also sell food but unfortunately me and friends had already eaten but will go back some other time and have a meal .

On our holidays from Ireland for a few well earned days away with our girls got 2 drinks for myself and husband. Paid sat down to then about to take a drink and the bar lady came over who served us said we can't drink in there with kids but can if we order food . What is the difference I would like to know such bad hospitality we left and got our money back and the drinks were left sitting there . Silly rules maybe look at this again. Don't mind following rules but be clear in the first place .

Catered for all our family needs. Special note to the chef loved the Haggis , Neeps and Tatties.

A very old world pub, steeped in tradition. Cold beers, great staff with the added bonus of Rabbie Burns poems and prose capture on the walls everywhere. No food was consumed, so I can not offer an opinion on that.

It was very busy, but atmosphere was nice. I had macaroni it was ok. But the person I was with had steak pie they said the gravy was over salted, but didnot want to moan because they were as busy.. Would be good if you could get a Mocca...

3 of us went in for lunch, ordered food and waited 35 minutes for mince and tatties which came out like slop, mac n cheese came out in a bath of grease, and cajuin burger came out like charcoal. Was my 1st time there and certainly won't be back. 2 of us had bad stomachs today because of this food. We sent the mince n tatties back as it was brought out cold. Was brought back few minutes later, it had been microwaved, when u could have made a fresh plate quicker.

For years I always nipped in for a drink...never again. Lady behind the bar was dealing with a leak over the till and clearly did not want to be 'bothered' with customers buying over priced drink.

The oldest pub in Ayr. So don't expect luxury. It's the atmosphere, staff and patrons that make this place great.

Haggis pakora + side salad was nice starter. Delicious steak pie, piping hot, fresh vegetables. 10/10

It was a cold wet Sunday when we wandered into the Tam O'Shanter Inn, the chef and staff made us feel so welcome. The food was delicious especially the Tam O'Shanter burger - you'll need a big appetite. Would certainly return as we had value and taste for our money.

Atmosphere and the food are amazing. Staff very friendly and it's service with a smile.

Service with a smile! A great opportunity to experience what felt to me like authentic Scottish food at a reasonable price. I recommend the steak pie - uses good, locally sourced beef :)

Waited 1 half hours for food I overheard the chef say I don’t care if they ever come back just after we complained we won’t eat there anymore 6 months ago

Unfortunately kitchen was closed,but menu was in view,great selection of food and all for £7-95 Haddock chips and peas was one of the many choices,very friendly staff and customers,great atmosphere, thank you.

We popped in on a Friday evening. It was nice and busy. The one real ale was not on, which was a shame. They have their own Tam O Shanter bottled beer which I will try next time, as didn’t see it until after ordering a very good pint of Guinness.

My husband and I Love The Tam O'Shanter pup and Restaurant. We Drive Down from Coatbridge as The Food is Lovely. Staff are really Helpful and polite 5stars will be back again Really Recommended it..

Dropped in for a few drinks after the Air show didn't order food but the food looked great and big portion staff were very friendly

Lovely traditional bar, smallish inside, however our group of ten were accommodated together. Staff were attentive but not overbearing. The food comes from another building next door (with a lane between them) therefore soup and teas and coffee are not carried between the buildings. Steak pie, macaroni, fish and burgers were all fantastic.

Been many times before was always really good but this time only 2 tables and still waited over half an hour when got food it was cold very disappointed to say the least

Good food, friendly staff. Even let mum who couldn't finish all of her steak pie take the rest of her meal home in a wee tray. Seats aren't the best though and it's a little cramped but that's just how the building is. Both the steak pie and chicken and leek pies were good, nice chunks of meat. Will definitely come back again.

It's an old worldy pub with loads of character.

Had Cullen slink for the first time. Loved it. I have a very fuzzy daughter and she loved the haggis. Good prices aswell. Probably would have had more atmosphere if we were in the bar rather than the restaurant.

Loved and lived in ayr, had to bring momma back. She did a proper pub tour and her favourite was The Tam. She even got a Scottish whiskey and she is a wine girlie. 10/10 pub. Not a straight line in sight, fun angles and no flat floors. Authentic and perfect.

Amazing looking pub and sad we never had a chance to eat there as their menu looked amazing...

Had a ham salad, this consisted of 2 pieces of ham, small amount of coleslaw and a handful of chips, with a side of dodgy salad all for the grand cost of £7.95. Complained to the chef and her attitude was atrocious, told me no one else has complained about it, never to get an apology basically just shrugged her shoulders and said she would pass it on. Never had service like that ever, most certainly won't be back.

Walked in and walked out. The smell of body odour from the 2 guys at the bar was grim.

Waiting time for meal was over 20 minutes and the portion size was too small for the price.

Popped in for a quick pint last Tuesday afternoon. Great to see a locally brewed real ale available. Love the interior and the atmosphere. And top marks to the young barman who was so friendly and welcoming

Had a new chef on when my wife and I visited on Saturday waited over an hour and more for our eats...rememberd me of the rangers defence 😎👍

When asked for a coffee was told don't do coffee despite advertising coffee and a machine behind the bar barmaid just didn't want to make coffee food lying on the floor shame

Great traditional Scottish food probably the best in the area. Brilliant service with friendly staff who will happily chat and tell you all about the pub and town’s history.

Great old pub - sadly found the bar staff experience to be poor. Witnessed an elderly gentleman thank them for the service and apologise for not finishing the beer. Only for them to excuse them loudly of being a strange guy as he walked out. Then at 20:40 had to listen to muttering of I want to go home as last orders were called and felt pushed out by 20:45 - wouldn't return sadly
