The Taj Cottage Restaurant in Doncaster

We have been going to the taj for the last 3yrs rather than the one in our village in blyth . This is because the quality of meat and flavours mixed with the quality of service, ambience and consistency sets it out in front for us as we must go at least 3 times a month and never let down. Well done mo and the staff keep up the excellent work.👍

I cannot recommend Taj enough. Sal and the team are amazing and really look after you. Food is excellent every time.

First time I AV ad a takeaway not same quality as sitting in the restaurant also the meal woz cold disappointed as I AV eat in the restaurant restaurant & been more than satisfied with the food ☹️

Excellent environment and service

Came here on a recommendation from a friend. The food is not good at all. All the currys were powdery, bitter, lacked seasoning and not very hot temperature wise. The staff were apologetic and struck of the worst of the dishes. Very expensive for the quality. Definitely wouldn't recommend, especially when Zaras is just down the road and the food there is delicious.

Best Indian restaurant in Doncaster area. The most delicious Indian meals we’ve had for quite some time. The menu is quite extensive and the flavours were superb. What added to the ambience within the restaurant as well the professionalism and friendless of the waiters and other staff.

Had a wonderful evening celebrating my husbands birthday. Food was lovely, service was excellent and nothing was too much trouble. We were a big party (14) but all the food was served at the same time, everything was piping hot and staff were extremely organised and efficient. Have been here a few times now and it’s now our go to for a good curry.

Called in yesterday to try the food on offer. We both love Indian food and were not disappointed here. We walked in off the street ,with no booking, hoping that, it being a weekday, we'd get a table. The staff were lovely, friendly and efficient and our food was delicious. We'll definitely be back to try out more of the menu.

What a cosy restaurant that was. And the food. You have to try the Onion Baji and the Duncan Special. Delicious.

Was at taj cottage rest on for a birthday meal can I just say it was the best Indian meal me and my family have ever had , no complaints from us.

First time for me, we are a curry club in memory of my dad who loved his curries. We go to different venues around the area and came to the Taj on my youngest son's recomendation....We were not disapointed and we will be back....definately on the list for " Grandad Ken's Curry Club"...

Nice thick curry, quality pieces of lamb, good pilau rice, tasty poppadom and fruity chutney. Very satisfying thank you! Worth the travel to collect. This is appreciated after being let down so many times with watered down curry and white tastless pilau rice.

7 of us ate here Christmas Eve, nice atmosphere, friendly staff, great service and great food. All of us agreed it was some of the best Indian food we had eaten. Would definitely return.

Lack of proper customer service. I arranged for 18 people to dine in November 2022. You would have thought the amount of money spent would have warranted some free coffee or something else. The total bill was a hassle trying to calculate what we all had. Deposits were put on wrong separate sections of the party and in the end we were at a £20 loss somewhere. Totally confusing and was not communicated very well to how the bill was divided up. The food was great but very very expensive. I’d say about £8 more per person just on the food than anywhere else. I wouldn’t go again as they are unorganised.

The management’s attitude leaves a lot to be desired. Not impressed with this place.

Went for my birthday meal. Never been before so wanted to try it. Lovely meal apart from us being the only take one's in the building.

First time visit lat night I must say the chef’s special Bhuna was outstanding all the food was superb will be back to try other dishes

Wonderful food, Best Indian for miles. Very good staff

The food was delicious amd reasonably priced, however the pushy service became very frustrating. The restaurant wasn't full but I felt as though we were constantly being rushed to order, then rushed to have the mains. We asked 3 times to wait until we had finished eating before pushing us have our mains but in the end relented as it was becoming embarrassing. Great food but service needs some work.

One of the best meals (Indian or other) we've had in months. Very tasty. Friendly service.

Everything lovely, but had lamb madras the amount of oil leaked and stained work surfaces tough to get off. Part from that nice sheek starter and egg rice, curry and garlic bread. Thanks

Fantastic food. Fantastic quality and presentation. The food is always excellent and so is the service. The staff are so friendly and knowledgeable. This is a must visit place. They cater for Vegan and vegetarian and nothing is too much for them. The best food and service.

Great food, nice setting. Recommend the Taj special, being from from Midlands originally I grew up spoilt for choice but I've struggled to find a decent curry in Doncaster for years but this is right up there with the best I've had in years!

The meal was delicious and felt very safe

Sat down and realised that there was no lager on draught! Which for an Indian is not the best! If the bottles were reasonably priced then you could accept it a bit more. But it was £4.90 for big bottle of Cobra. Which is very steep. Food was good. Tasty but portion sizes weren't great. Wouldn't recommend sharing a chips, rice or naan. Small. The staff weren't great either, very miserable and didn't make you feel welcome. Young staff that seemed like they didn't want to be there. Food good, everything else average.

Lovely place, great food and good service

Went here for valentines day 2020. Very bland welcome from the bar staff. Food was fantastic but well over priced at £63 for a basic set menu for 2(Which we we're not given, just told what we would get) no desert and one drink each Told there.is no menu only to later hear a group of presumed regulars ordering what ever they.wanted from the menu. Decor was very bland, no atmosphere and far from romantic for a special occasion. We were cold where we were seated upstairs in the window. In summary, no atmosphere, lovely food but over priced. Better Indian restaurants in the area.

Poor, poppadoms were soft, left over from yesterday. Waited 25 mins before we saw a waiter to take our order of food and drinks Starter of mixed kebab was cold and tastless, won't be going again.

First class Indian restaurant, fantastic food & great customer service

Nice quiet night. Staff were a bit elusive. Portions are small no sharing rice and naan bread here. Quality of meal was good though if lacking in the meat department a little. But a meal for 8 including mix starters some puddings and drink each came to around £25 per head so very reasonable.

Had a night out here and the food and service was excellent.

Food stone cold no rice in order chips soggy and cold stale poppadoms 1st and last time!!!

Always enjoy me meal and leave feeling full. Sadly no beer on draft so have to end up drinking Kingfisher out bottle. Price never seems steep and staff couldn't do a better job. Spot on.

Came here tonight for my daughter's 16th birthday from the moment we walk in the staff was very welcoming and friendly . The menu has a good variety of choice .the food was delicious best Indian I've been to .I would highly recommend this place . Give it a try you won't be disappointed

Birthday celebration with family . Service slow waiters arguing and not speaking own language between themselves. Ordered a bottle of whit wine which was brought to the table the wine was room temperature and was not put in an ice bucket. Food very average would not recommend this and would not visit again.

Great friendly curry house, not chased out for table since more upstairs.

A great Indian restaurant whether you eat in or collect and eat at home. Consistently good quality food with plenty of taste. The owner and his staff are really friendly and the place always looks clean and tidy. If you eat in the restaurant it always has a nice atmosphere and has a little car park to the side for customers.

Top quality restaurant visited on New Year’s Eve superb food But they need to change deserve menu it looks like More take away leaflet but desert comes out good I didn’t ordered one simply menu wasn’t attractive Next table ordered one it looked good Bit of advice to owner ; Put actual picture of desserts rather then catalog picture been printed on cheap plastic laminated paper

We went here last night to celebrate a birthday, when we arrived they had no record of the booking (we did have a confirmation email for a table of 9 ). We arrived at 7pm and from the start the service was just poor and very slow. The food once it was served. Was cold and not worth the wait.. another table at the side of ours got up and left without paying due to the same long waits and poor service. There was no management around, we asked several times to speak with the manager and after an hour wait for him we were presented with a kitchen worker?? We will not go back to this place, the whole evening was terrible.. the only thing that was brilliant is that I was surrounded with family.

We came for a meal as a couple. We phoned ahead to book in. The service was polite, quick and efficient. The menu offers lots of choice. We had starters and mains. The food was delicious and served hot. We will be coming here again. Definitely on par with some of the best curry houses in London.
