I really enjoy their Dan dan noodles, I could not find them on the menu that was initially brought but when I asked about them, the waitress gave me another menu with more complex dishes that I had never seen before elsewhere. I was really thrilled to try their food as it is not easy to find a Szechuanese restaurant, and I will go back to try more dishes! I gave 4 stars as I had to seat in an awkward position while eating due to the grill set up under the table that did not leave any space for sitting with the legs under the table.

Visiting Loughborough for my Daughter's Graduation and after a long day just wanted to eat. She chose Chinese which I was a bit sad about having become bored of all the Britese food available in our local takeaways. When we walked up to the door from the tired look of the place I wondered what she'd brought us to. But we trust her taste, and am I glad we did. Honestly the best restaurant food I've had in a long time. The steamed buns for starter were sublime and a really good indication of the meal to come. Every single dish had us mooing in pleasure. By the end 4 of us had eaten every bit. £56 for 4 mains 2 starters shared, and drinks and we were stuffed. We will be back. She's doing a Masters!

I was curious about the previous review, given that "special fried rice" isn't on the menu. This restaurant serves Schezuan cuisine, which differs significantly from British-Chinese cuisine, which is based on Cantonese cooking but adapted for what us Brits are supposed to want. All of the other restaurants in Loughborough cater for British tastes, whereas the Schezuan restaurant is frequented almost exclusively by Chinese students. My guess is that the reviewer was looking for something different from what this place serves. Asking for special fried rice here would be like ordering paella in an Indian restaurant. The place looks like a cafe, so if you're after fine dining or somewhere posh for a celebration you need to go elsewhere. Go there for the food. I don't know how close the dishes get to what you would find in Schezuan, never having been there, but the fish-fragrant aubergine, the mapo-tofu and the dandan noodles you'll find at this restaurant are worth travelling to experience. I live in the North East, and the food here is better (i.e. more to my taste) than anything I've found in Newcastle Chinatown.

Had the worst food experience there. Ordered for special fried rice and I got cooked rice with boiled chicken sauce. Will not recommend

Hidden gem that everyone needs to know about. From the outside it doesn't look particular impressive, in fact we very nearly didn't go in thinking it wouldn't be any good. Luckily we did because the food was the most authentic and tasty Chinese food in the area. There's no problem ordering as there's a picture menu. Price was very reasonable (@@£10 per head and we were so full we could hardly walk). There's a good range of dishes and even the most fussy eater daughter of ours could find something she liked. We're going back there again in a few days. I think we'll be there quite often now that we've found this little hidden secret. If you want proper Chinese food, this is the place, spread the word!

Its our favorite place in town, the food is absolutely amazing and very reasonable priced. We usually get 2 mains and one large rice for 3 people. One should know that this is not an ordinary UK Chinese takeaway but rather actual Chinese food. If you don’t feel to adventures I can highly recommend the roasted duck and the twice sauted pork.

The decor is minimal and from a far the restaurant itself looks nothing special at all but the food is fabulous. Every dish we ordered was extremely fresh and tasty, the portions were great and extremely reasonably priced! The drinks menu is limited but for an authentic, casual and delicious meal it was absolutely perfect! Definitely recommend and will be returning!

Have visited the Szechuan several times in the past year. It’s a restaurant that caters to the Asian students etc in Loughborough with the menu in Chinese and with English ‘translations’ plus pictures and it’s not your regular English Chinese menu with plenty of tendon, offal etc on the menu along with the more usual stuff such as chicken fried rice and special noodles etc. Have had various dishes but all have been tasty but be aware that some are spicy and others like the chicken hot pot are made with pieces of chicken on the bone rather than breast as you might expect. Food is tasty and reasonably priced; just don’t go here expecting nice decor or great service - plastic table cloths and a waitress whose grasp of English is minimal are what you’ll find. It’s a more authentic experience than you’ll find in most places in the UK but won’t be to everyone’s taste.
