So glad that we saw The Sycamore Tree was open today (Sunday) as we had used their catering services a few years ago when staying nearby and were very impressed. The cafe was very busy with Sunday Lunch service and the smells were mmmm. Just a flying stop for us today for a takeaway as we were on our journey home. Tasty panini and lovely fresh sandwich - just the job. Good value and friendly efficient service too. Would definitely recommend for anyone travelling through Longtown. Thank you!

Brilliant customer service! We had the good fortune to stumble across this place whilst riding the Reivers Route on our bikes. That we were close to closing time was no issue and we were soon tucking into home made cherry and almond scones and fresh filter coffee. That we’d not got our food strategy right for the evening was no problem, our hosts offered home made beef stew and mashed potatoes to ‘take away’… superb - and beyond very welcome! They do a take away service on a Wednesday- we were fortunate are that some hand been frozen. Very friendly, very accommodating and some good banter too- visit - you’ll not be disappointed!

Had a great couple nights staying here while road tripping. Johnny was a fantastic, friendly host and the breakfast was lovely. Bed was very comfy too.

5* experience with wide choice of foods and people with GF requirements well catered for with good knowledge from friendly staff. Rustic interior in quite small cafe and food served freshly made and hot at reasonable prices, Chilli and African stew could be a bit more spiceier as lacked a bit of kick and maybe bland taste for some but nevertheless very tasty

Have used sycamore tree cafe for 15 years and can say. I cannae put one wrong say about these folks. I am a local tour guide and absolutely love bringing visitors here. Food is good as is the service. 5 star all the way.

You cannot fault The Sycamore Tree for its friendly hospitality and reasonably priced local food. Whether you are after a light lunch or a cooked breakfast this is great place to spend time in.

Lovely little spot for a meet-up. Nice range on the menu. Food is of a good standard. Light and airy space. The service received was middle-of-the- road. The staff are nice enough, and the level of service wouldn't put me off going again, but it wasn't great or outstanding. It was just 'ok'.

Great food. Really fresh salad and the sandwiches were lovely and freshly made. My husband had a full English breakfast which he really enjoyed. Will certainly go again. The waitress was cheerful and the service was very good. I would recommend this cafe for a toasted teacake, a meal or just a sandwich.

Dropped in for something to eat on our way up north. Food was delicious and very friendly service. We were also treated to two free bowls of beetroot. Don’t stop at an overpriced motorway service station - stop here instead. Highly recommended!

What a lovely find. We came across this place when looking for accommodation as we were attending a wedding nearby. We phoned the day before and spoke to a lovely lady who agreed we could pick up the key on our way to the wedding prior to the check in time, so we didn't have to worry about checking in later in the day. The room was beautiful, spacious, cosy and very clean. Everything was catered for and it was a shame we were only staying for one night. Breakfast the next morning was lovely with plenty of choice and the staff/owner were friendly and welcoming. If we are ever coming up this way again we will definitely look to book into this gem of a find.

Large bedroom & bathroom with lots of natural light (room 2), quiet surroundings, lovely breakfast and excellent value for money.

If you're travelling to or from Scotland on the A7, I'd recommend The Sycamore Tree to stop for a reasonably priced meal with free parking outside. I had a really nice scrambled egg and bacon muffin with a small salad and a large coffee for around £8. Full meals are available for £9-10 if you have more time to spare and The Sycamore Tree doubles up as a bed and breakfast. Staff are friendly, the place is spotless and a local said she has been a regular for years, so I would recommend a stop at this cafe.

We stayed in one of the two rooms they have available above the cafe. Nice large room, clean, and with nice amenities. Bit warm (being on the second floor in June), and some road noise, but otherwise a wonderful stay. The included breakfast in the cafe each morning was delicious, and the host (John) was very nice.

We loved our stay here. The owner was friendly and helpful. Good breakfast. And although he didn't have oat milk, he was more than willing to nip across the road to buy some (which I refused).

Stayed for the weekend as we had a wedding down the road. It was a great place to stay. Very clean, good breakfast and very friendly staff. Only thing I would recommend is providing an air freshener as the smell from the cafe gets on your clothes very quickly.

We stayed here for 2 nights as we were quests at a wedding nearby. We had a perfect stay The rooms were impeccably clean, warm and comfortable and the little extras made it really special. From individual toiletry packs and slippers on each bed, to gowns in the wardrobe. There was even a pack of baby wipes in the bathroom. The breakfast in the cafe downstairs was delicious, choices of fruit juices and cereals on the table, then a hot breakfast menu to choose from. The full breakfast was well cooked, using local produce and was delicious. All the staff were lovely, friendly and couldn't have been more helpful. I would highly recommend this little gem of a place and wouldn't hesitate to stay again if I was in the area

Couldn’t fault it, very friendly welcome, big clean comfortable room and, judging by that breakfast,John is an excellent chef. My background is in hospitality and I reckon you can’t beat this place for value!

Wow - struck gold finding this place. Used it as an overnight stop off en route to-from Hampshire/North of Scotland. Cant fault anything about it. Room and facilities are outstanding as was the breakfast, with plenty of different choices available. A few miles off the M6. Petrol station just up the road was cheap for topping up for onward journeys too which was a bonus. Regular bus service to and from Carlisle -Annan if going out and about which runs until 10pm. If youre looking for somewhere around Carlisle or this part of the Scottish Borders, you could do a hell of alot worse for double the price. Highy HIGHLY recommended, and for me to say that, it must be good.

We dropped in for a coffee and stayed for lunch and were well pleased. A good menu, mainly Traditional English-style menu with some exotics. A cosy restaurant with very friendly service. Parking nearby and it's on the historic A7, probably the last restaurant in England

Traveller’s stop for lunch. Convenient (eg parking). Peasant, efficient & swift waitress. Fine cheese & onion toasted sandwich… but marred by the detestable (trying not to write ‘putrid’) taste of one of the salad ingredients: soft leaves well on the way to being ‘past it’ (bagged salad is nice & fresh on opening the bag, but not so a day later). A pity!

Lovely man running the place. Generous hearty breakfast. Fairly priced. Unfortunately the bedding was stained and one of the beds had a mattress that was too big for it making the bed uncomfortable. Also there was a random sock on the floor which was obviously from a previous guest…

Stopped on the way to patterdale for a full English, absolutely brilliant and got 3 breakfasts and drinks for less than £30 👍.

We visited on the way to our holiday and on the way back . Both meals were great value and local tasty food. All day breakfasts and main meals well served in a pleasant spacious cafe . Able to park near by.

We tend to avoid B&B's, often find them overpriced for often mediocre service. But it was one night and location perfect, so we took a chance. I am so glad we did! * A relaxed a friendly welcome from John and his team in the cafe. Took opportunity whilst waiting for room to have a homemade scone... Heaven on a plate. *immaculate room, I mean really really clean. In fact everywhere you looked was clean, you could see into the kitchen from cafe and it was spotless. *large room... We paid £80 for the four poster bed (room 1). There was ample space even with the bed, solid wood furniture and seats. *the fan... In 29degree heat we did have concerns as we correctly guessed there would be no AC. However, there was a large, excellent quality, remote control, powerful fan which cooled room down wonderful. *breakfast... Good choice, made to order and very popular. We would highly recommend The Sycamore Tree as your stopover on way north/South. It is 10min off M74, perfect location for Gretna too.

Food quality and price are exceptional.

An unusual café with definite good and bad points. We had a most enjoyable, huge Ploughman’s Lunch for a very reasonable cost. The waitress was friendly and very apologetic that we had to wait quite a while both to order and for our food.

We had just stopped for a break and found this little cafe by accident. Popped in for a sandwich to go. The sandwiches are very good especially the ham as the slices are so thick and on nice bread. When visiting again will stop and sit in. Also cyclist and motorcycle friendly to. Parking on street.

Convenient location for onward journey. Pleasant stay overall. Fortunately the cooking smells in the bedroom, from downstairs, quickly dissipated with the windows open for a bit. Towels could have been fresher without tumble drier white bits on the dark blue but there were plenty so...

The room was outstanding! Call ahead on the off chance that they had a room available, nothing was too much trouble. Again the room was outstanding for the price, powerful shower, very comfortable bed, a well decorated room. The breakfast was of exceptional quality. I won’t hesitate to stay there again.

A must visit place for Full English Breakfast We had a made a trip Carlisle on a Saturday for an event and reached much earlier than expected and couldn't find a place which was open about 8.30ish for breakfast A quick search on google gave me a couple of options. I called Sycamore to check if they were open which they were. Its about 10 mins from the city centre closer to Gretna Green outlet shopping Ample parking was available on the street. This place had one of the best breakfast I had. They catered for both Veg and Non veg options. My daughter had a full glass of milk too. There are customised breakfast options if need be and an array of drinks The place was tidy and good social distancing. Some of the locals having breakfast who were regulars provided all the small talks and laughter required too Toilets are clean and well maintained. Service was quick and food was sumptuous. Worth a visit.

I did not stay here, just popped in for a coffee and snack between the Lake district and home in Wooler. It was a real gem! Lovely coffee and jam & cream scone in very pleasant, bright coffee shop with homemade cakes and scones, served by lovely, friendly gentleman. A real treat and totally the opposite of motorway services!

A very decent cafe. This is a really great cafe which is on the main road A7. The food is great, helpings are generous, hot where required and a good variety of choices. It is wheelchair friendly, has disabled facilities, good for families, individuals or couples. Well worth a try if you are in the vacinity.
