This is by far the best steak I've had in a long time...it's knocked socks off Millar and Carter for price and quality. I had a 6oz fillet and my husband had a whopping 14 oz Rump!! Would highly recommend the swan at Whiston for their steak night, shame it's only once a month.

Went on Saturday the food was excellent I had the salmon special it was lovely and very well presented mty husband had lasagne which was also well presented and very tasty 😋

Popped in for a coffee on the way back from a day out. Ordered and paid for it then waited and waited and waited some more. 15 minutes later I asked where the coffee was only to be told they were very busy serving meals and that they were only a small team. I asked to see the manager as I thought this was a very weak excuse, I was told the manager was busy cooking in the kitchen, is this person a manager or a chef? Eventually the assistant manager came through apologised and when I asked why to take an over 15 minutes to make a coffee, turn out with a lot of weak excuses, especially for the time of day. Restaurant wasn’t that busy at this time but the excuse was they were getting desserts out. So if someone orders a coffee which takes all of a minute to make they prioritise theirdiners. Poor service, weak excuses therefore will not be returning as they obviously forgot rather than we’re too busy… had a refund. Oh and one other thing the young girl who did the coffee didn’t even put sprinkles on until I asked… Clueless!

Have been a few times before and there is a reason it gets busy quickly. The bar lady was so helpful and went out of her way to accomodate us. Refreshing to see plenty of staff especially in the lounge area. Been a few times now and never had anything bad to say about it. Ps....the lovely outside tables and kids play area has had a revamp and the chickens at the bottom of the garden is a nice touch for the little ones. Advise to book .......def be back!!! (Again) EDIT: Still good food but when its busy the mistakes happen quite regular ......kitchen over run (1 year from original review)

Great quality well cooked pub food and a great selection of beers and cider. Can't believe it's been so long since our last visit.

Food was very disappointing and tasteless. Service extremely slow and will not be returning. The bar was full of people complaining and the manager was rude.

Just had Sunday lunch with our friends. The meal was fantastic,drinks were great,the staff are also fantastic. Have not been for a while due to illness but will definitely be back . Many thanks ...

Went today to the swan at Whiston the food was brilliant could not fault it. We had steak and ale pie chips and peas, scampi chips and peas and the gammon steak, chips, pineapple, onion rings and tomatoes. The chips were home cooked the scampi tasted fresh and the pie was delicious. We also had dessert x 2 berry crumbles and bakewell cheesecake all with ice cream. All I can say is keep the greene king, macdonalds, KFC and the like I'd rather dine here. The staff go above and beyond to help the customers and they are friendly. Good old fashioned banter that you would expect from a British pub. There is also a pool table and a child's outdoor play area

Catered for our table of 5 adults and 2 boisterous boys. Even after a coke spillage everywhere, one of us being indecisive and taking forever to choose, a bit noisy and messy, staff were still friendly and happy to help. Food was delicious as always. Cannot fault the place.

My family and I love this pub. What is not to love?! A beautiful garden for the children to play, outside food, an inside restaurant with filling traditional food and great choices of drinks. They host an excellent bonfire night too. We love it here!

We popped in briefly to get a drink and enjoy the outdoor play area. The kids were very happy. Drinks were reasonably priced, and I will go back if it stops raining!

A pleasant place located in a village which consists of about one house and one farm. You’ll have competition from all the locals to get service. Do as I did if you’re driving past: stop for a pint!

Excellent pub conveniently located off the M6, halfway between the Lake District and London so a great way to break up that particular journey. The pub is warm and welcoming and the service is absolutely first class. Food is very good - nothing fancy but clearly all home cooked using fresh good quality ingredients and they have a terrific lunchtime deal in the week - just £8 for a hearty meal.

Good value food with efficient friendly service.

Stayed in our Motorhome on large car park. Food and drink was great. Our greyhound Winnie was made to feel welcome as were we. Recommended.

Visited on a Friday evening, was seated without any fuss & was made to feel more than welcome. The service & food were of the highest quality, as was the ale selection. Will definitely be returning!!

Me and 5 of my family attended today and we had a wonderful meal. The food was delicious and such good quality, large drinks selection too. Lovely and warm and welcoming and staff were so helpful. Just one issue was there is no disabled toilet which did inconvenience us slightly. Apart from that it was great good at a great price in a lovely setting

Myself and my family have been visiting the Swan for a number of years as we absolutely love everything about it🥰 Not only is the selection of ales and ciders fantastic, the food is even better!! We have never had a bad experience in all of the years we have been coming and also the staff are lovely💕 17 of us ordered 3 courses from the festive fayre menu tonight for my sisters 40th birthday and the food was divine☺️ Thank you Hannah for creating such a fantastic pub!! Good food, great beer and friendly staff.

Visited during the bonfire night with my family and I’ve never seen it so busy before, completely rammed but the staff did so well!! Service was still fast considering, and the staff were so welcoming and helpful even though they were clearly stretched to their limits. They put up with some nasty impatient customers very professionally and one lady behind the bar (heard her referred to as molly? Milly maybe? Sorry - it was loud) was so helpful when I couldn’t decide on what drink to have. Overall lovely event and I will be visiting again soon - huge well done to the staff.

We came here for my sons 14th birthday with his friends and family so a large group of us, they seemed quite under staffed and it was busy, we all ordered mains and my chicken seemed pink, when I mentioned it to staff they said it was from the bacon even though I'd cut into several pieces of chicken and stopped eating it, we spent quite a lot of money and my comment was brushed off even though most of my meal was left as was the chicken and bacon in cream sauce, we were also told to vacate the table at 8pm even though we were all still drinking and didn't plan on leaving straight after the meal and the waitress was quite rude and abrupt about it even though the other part of the restaurant was empty, we said we would go again but would book the table for the night and would definitely not have the chicken again,

Superb Sunday lunch in a lovely traditional pub. Lots of other diners, excellent portions and very tasty. Fantastic price. Will visit again.

We had to book a last minute meal for 10 for the next day. Victoria made sure she got us in. The staff and food were great. We were so pleased as we had never been there before. Thanks all for a good night. I really recommend this place.

Table for five on Thursday 22nd June at 7.30, table prebooked. The restaurant was very quiet for the number of vehicles on the car park. Food very good but service was terrible. All was ok until our plates for our mains were taken away. We were asked if we would like to see a dessert menu and we said we would. We waited and waited. In the end, after well over half an hour one of our group went into the bar to ask if we could be served. A lady then appeared and said she would fetch our server who came to us with a menu on a chalk board and no apology for our wait. We ordered our desserts and the server asked if we would like coffees and she turned the board around for us to see the choice of coffees. We ordered coffees too. A few moments later a more senior lady appeared to advise us that they had run out of milk. She made a joke that she couldn’t serve milk even though they had cows. None of our group were impressed that a restaurant had run out of milk. We were offered black coffees or coffees with cream. We declined. Our desserts arrived and were good. By the time our desserts arrived we were the only occupied table. When the desserts dishes were taken away we were told we could stay but without our coffees to drink and being the only table occupied we asked for the bill and left well before 10.30. Our group go to a restaurant every six weeks or so and have been going out for well over 25 years. This is the earlier we have ever left a restaurant but there was no atmosphere for the whole of our visit, we didn’t feel welcome so we went home. Despite the food being very good we all agreed we wouldn’t be going back there in a hurry. Due to the number of vehicles on arrival, the car park was extremely full, and from subsequently looking on the website I suspect they were drinking in the bar which is renowned for the choice of beers. I noted on the website that Sunday lunch is very positively reviewed and I can only surmise that there are plenty of waiting on staff on Sundays.

Lovely meal. Mushroom starter was a little over cooked and we're hard and too crispy. It was a shame the vegetables took a while to come out of the kitchen after plated meat had been delivered. Puddings were good. Our little groans didn't spoil the meal

Great food and atmosphere. Has a large children’s play area in the beer garden which is safe and secure. Very relaxed atmosphere. My son loves to visit the chickens when we go .

Service and food was excellent.

I oderder gammon egg and chip it came with no chips and I algo orderder hunnters chicken it was very hard you will need a chain saw to cut into it.

First time visit and very pleased with this pretty pub. Sat in the smaller of the beer gardens as we had our dogs with us, and it was a lovely little sheltered spot with the bonus of a cage of pretty parakeets to watch! Bar staff were friendly and helpful, everywhere was clean and tidy, and the outdoor food was simple but delicious - the 6oz plain beefburger came with piping hot chips and a good dollop of fresh salad, while the scampi was crispy and tasty. Portions were perfect for a lunch, not too hefty but enough to fill you up, and prices were very reasonable for a country pub - two meals, two pints and a half cost us a little over £26. The pub also has another larger beer garden down at the side of the car park, where you can watch the farm animals in the surrounding fields, as well as large play area for children. All in all, a very pleasant find and will definitely be back to try the more extensive indoor menu at some point this summer.

Great rural pub with a large emphasis on serving food. There is however a decent sized, dedicated bar for drinkers. Good selection of 4 cask ales.

Booked a birthday meal 2 months in advance for my wife.Rang day before to ask if staff could decorate table ..balloon bit of glitter ect I said when I arrive I would pay gor any decorations. Meal was booked fir 7.30 we arrived at 7 NO ONE new we had booked ???????after 30 minutes we finally got down to our table .Starters tasteless chicken apparently I had ..chicken???? Could have been anything. Some of my family had steak waiter came up to our table and dropped knife and forks at the top of the table help your self ???? Strange.Main meals arrived chicken in blue cheese sauce I had ...I did want fish no fish on a busy Saturday night no fish ???? Anyway chicken in Stilton sauce really not impressed at all tasteless. I've eaten at the Swan about 5 years ago meal was good that's why I came back this evening..I will 100%never go back and I will tell my friends ect ect that I wouldn't recommend the Swan inn wife's birthday very very disappointed..... RUBBISH

The staff were amazing. So attentive and friendly. We had a lovely meal. Reasonably priced too. Good beer. Lovely setting. Looking forward to walking up there over the fields in the summer.

Lovely location, lovely food, good service & friendly staff. My only negative opinion (hence the 4 stars, not 5) is that it lacks a bit of ambience in the restaurant area. Twice I've been now for a meal & felt it both times. Maybe some tea-lights on the tables & some background music - it all just feels a bit quiet & makes me a bit self-conscious when chatting & having a laugh. But don't let that put you off; the food & beer is worth it 👌 & I'll definitely be back.

Very popular, some of the meals were a bit overcooked but others were fine, drivers penalised as the non alcoholic drinks a bit pricey eg bottle of full fat coke £2.60 but overall a very pleasant evening with friendly staff.

Found this little gem yesterday and we were not disappointed. The food and desserts were fab and all freshly made. Will be coming here again very soon.

Very very nice place service was good and meal, I had stacked burger missus had chicken from the special board, Well presented and tasty, a little too much American cheese for me but it was simple enough to remove it, a cider drinkers paradise + lots of choice in ales. Well done ladies we shall return soon

Pleasant country pub. Visited for lunch. Not packed but enough customers to make a friendly atmosphere. Good choice of food. Lunchtime menu, main menu and specials board. All food freshly cooked, and a good selection of home cooked delights. A good selection of beers, ciders and soft drinks. Well worth a visit and good value for money. It's getting much busier now, so I think booking a table may be a good idea. Another visit. November 2022, and busier than we've ever seen it at lunchtime. Food still excellent quality and prices appear to have been held, very helpful given the economic situation. Still an excellent variety of draft beers and ciders, again at reasonable prices.

The Sunday roasts looked amazing....but get there early as the had all gone! Staff were pleasant, but drink orders were forgotten or slow. The food we ordered was good and generous.

Had a meal here and although some of the meals looked okay the curry for me and my ppartner was awful,it was more like a bowl of Tomoto soup ,had better in weatherspoons and so over priced.

Fab traditional pub. Went for lunch at 12 and within the hour it was really busy so would definitely recommend booking. All the food is cooked fresh to order so there's a little wait and it states this on their menu. This isn't an issue for me as I prefer it this way. The lunch menu was great value for money. All the food we had as a party of 4 was excellent. Will definitely be visiting again soon.
