The Swan in Maldon

Friendly staff. Lovely surroundings. Extensive menu with some odd combinations. But the food was tasty, speedy but a little on the costly side. Overall though a good experience.

Lovely restaurant for Sunday lunch

Wouldn’t recommend Sunday lunch .Lamb cold and tough and gravy like thick oil. Veg stewed. Service was good and friendly

Visited here tonight for a quick drink. We are not from the area, but this pub seemed most welcoming and also dog friendly! Helpful bar staff, and a nice atmosphere. Wish we could have stayed longer! 5***

I have sent two friendly inquiries for a room but received no reply at all. Making a booking via their website is also not possible. Very unfriendly place, better look elsewhere. Sad.

We eat in The Swan regularly, they do a burger night every Wednesday, where every burger is £10. I generally have the ribs though which are really good. My wife doesn't eat alot and often has the cheese board which she says is very nice. I quite often hear people saying the food is good while we're in there. Normally there are two ladies that work there, and they're really friendly. Highly recommended if you're in Maldon.

Lovely Sunday lunch. However, when are they going to start offering vegan options. So behind the times.

We are also landlords and must give this venue full credit for the quality of their food and service. I would crown this as the best pub in Maldon

We went to the Swan Hotel Maldon for a birthday meal on Sunday 8th September. We ordered 4 of the trio roast dinners priced at £20 each. We waited ages for the meal, when it actually turned up it was cold. The meat was very chewy, I had a piece of plastic on my Yorkshire pudding and string attached to my meat . Please don’t bother going to this place, the service is so poor, we was left looking at a Yorkshire pudding left on the table after they cleared the plates for at least 20 minutes. I think the waiters just seem to mess around with each other and actually forget about the customer service. We asked for the desert menu which never arrived after waiting 30 minutes in the end we just decided to go. I’m sorry but we won’t be returning.

Stopped for meal on day trip to Malden. Great location just a short walk from the waterfront. Nice friendly staff. Service very good. Food awesome. Burger and chicken burger cooked and presented well. Sweet potato fries lovely. All hot and delicious. Sat in garden, which is more a paved outside patio also serving as a walkway but its okay... as it was hot and sunny the day we were ther and wanted to be outside.

It’s the third time we’ve been to the Swan the first time we had roast beef and I did say to the young lady that’s the roast was Luke warm at the best the second time it was the same so we gave it another go because to be quite honest, the flavour is really lovely.. so we went again this Sunday and it was awful! sent the food back because it was cold when it was brought back to us, it was still lukewarm… and it’s a real shame lovely looking pub really nice staff but unfortunately, the people in the kitchen are letting it down… and I’m afraid to say we won’t be going there again. You’re paying £20 for a roast dinner and it’s stone cold.😢

We had a fabulous dinner here. The restaurant went beyond to make sure our dietary needs were met - and the quality and presentation of both the meals and the dessert was amazing. We were really pleased with the friendly and caring service. Thank you for this experience.

Only popped in for a drink but was really impressed with the place. It's lovely and clean, lovely staff. We didn't eat but the food being bought out for others looked really good, will eat next time.

Didn't stay in the hotel but reserved a table for Sunday lunch whilst away for the weekend. I must say this is a nice pub/restaurant all staff are friendly & prawn starter & the lamb roast was cooked to perfection would highly recommend me & fiancee will definitely coming back

Lovely delicious food, great staff and brilliant service

Despite living locally for over 30 years, I visited The Swan for the first time on Friday evening, for a meal with friends. The online booking system was easy to use, and the dining area was pleasant. The food was good, and I was very happy with my choice of the pulled pork burger, although I would have preferred it to be served on a plate rather than on a wooden board. The three young staff members that we interacted with were all very friendly, polite and efficient. The service was faultless. I'd definitely return for a meal.

Did not stay at the Swan Inn, but had a fantastic meal with friends and a big thank you to Jackie & Gary Whitworth it was a memorable one and definitely good value for your money, the food was superb, the service was great, a young waitress forgot I changed skinny chips to hand cut chips but she served them to me in a jiffy!! Can't fault The Swan, definitely going back to catch up with friends again! (It was so nice a large tip was left!)

Wednesday burger night - great value, substantial tasty burgers!

Great location, parking too behind hotel, check your reg in on screen in the bar, great cosy bed, good shower and lovely selection and quantity of teas, coffees etc!

Fabulous establishment hosting so many people on New Year’s Day. What a wonderful occasion for the local community. Thank you to all the staff at the Swan - lovely to witness a pack of traditional foxhounds and so important for our rural heritage.

Had Christmas dinner, with 2 others, I had vegetarian, was the worst Christmas dinner I have ever had, said sea bass. On the worst bowl of pearl barley and peas floating in a bowl of light brown stone cold fluid ,with no taste at all service very slow had to asked for plates to be taken away after long wait for desert shared veg couldn't cut it as so hard , we were stuck in a drafty corner, i did not coplaim at the time as I never like to make a fuss in restaurants but I have never had to., very disappointed

Best ribs we have ever had the delight to eat, great value too. Was soo full it was amazing. We will return for Bourban ribs and bring family. Everyone should try these ribs. Staff were great to us walk ins.

Had a fantastic anniversary meal, food was outstanding, I had the Lamb which was unbelievable, and the sticky toffee pudding was perfect. Service was friendly, and atmosphere was spot on. Haven’t been here before, but will 100% be coming back! Thank you.

Great room and staff all great stair carpet could be cleaned or replaced a warning sign on steps would be a good idea as you open hallway door and step is there but great service and rooms 👍

Went to the Cygnet Room for a family function. A perfect venue. The staff in both the function room and The Swan were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend 😊

Came here with 3 adults and 3 kids at 8.30pm for food. They sat us down and after 5 mins one of the staff informs us that it’s their policy to not have kids in after 8pm. The website or establishment does not state this anywhere, there website says “family’s welcome” There was around 5/6 other people in the bar area who all smiled and were unbothered by the well behaved children where they sat us. When we spoke to the manager he stated “these people have paid for babysitters to be here tonight, they don’t want kids here.” When I said if the baby makes any noise I will bring him outside to settle him down he replied “no you’re alright” and walked off. Manager has got an attitude and is extremely unwelcoming. Wouldn’t recommend.

Only had drinks here, they have a good selection of beers and gin. The service was friendly and efficient.

Restaurant was terrible. Waited hour for food, lots of menu not available, complained to manager, be was rude and not interested at all. Attitude very sarcastic and had no people skills to deal with the situation. Would not stay or eat here again

Booked over night for family wedding .. let us in the room early to get ready .. beautiful room everything there what we needed. Staff very helpful gave us numbers for cabs. Come & go as we please Didn't eat at the swan but food looked amazing ..very lively place . Would go back again 👍

Couldn't fault front of house staff, but meal was awful,good job we weren't food critics, it was a very long wait & the calves liver was on menu as pink but was dry ,tasted like reheated 3 times ,haven't had liver like that since school days, potatoes with liver were not champ but mash mixed with cabbage,& fish was lovely but batter on base verygreasy,potatoes wedges also been reheated several times. Should have had sorbet with my desert but given vanilla ice cream ,wasn't warned of this fact,may have had allergy.advertised as peach with other fruits but just got peach.

Popped into the swan on the off chance we could get lunch ,the young lady we dealt with was so accomadating,we decided on the roast it was absolutely amazing, lovely thick meat home made yourkshire and potatoes lovely fresh veg the gravy was amazing as well will definitely be going back .Thank you to the swan and staff .

Been here a few times, always a very good grill, the steak was cooked to perfection and very tender, good portion size and very fair prices, would definitely recommend.

Held an event at the Swan Hotel, could not fault the service, food or room area. Staff were excellent and catered for all our needs and requests. Would certainly recommend this venue, you won't find better.

Great selection on the menu both price wise and cuisine. Nice not mass produced chain food. And good for dropping in just for a beer.

I didn't have food so I can't comment. The staff are polite and courteous. Nice place for a catch up until some overgrown child set off the Christmas decorations for half an hour.

Terrible food! Waste of money terrible service and cold food, disappointing!

Terrible food😢, £33 for xmas menu, staff do, starters was apparently smoked fish, but was chunks of different fish that was rubbery and tough unsmoked flavour! Tasted raw! Shocked, main Beef was cold on arrival but only 1 waitress for 30 of us, others meals arrived 8/9min later on any vegetables arrived about 5 min after that and again cold, Yorkshire pud was fab but cold, really disappointed! But service was good from waitress concerning she was on her own, but honestly if it wasn't a staff do I'd of refused to pay really sad so appalling!!! Save yourself £15 and go whetherspoons, hate leaving bad reviews but was really really poor show!

Room was nice, sadly customer service was really poor. No staff onsite before 12.00 or after 11.00 pm. No refreshments or snacks, let alone meals are available before mid-day. There are tea/coffee sachets and a kettle in the room. At check-in no information was provided about opening/closing times or check-out. On my day of departure I was quite rudely told by the cleaner I had overstayed my welcome (it was 10.45) and I had to leave my room now! At no point was I told I had to leave the premises, let alone my room by 10.30 am. There was nowhere to wait inside the property for my taxi because it was closed to the public until mid-day so I ended up waiting on the street with my suitcase. One wonders why they are marketing themselves as a hotel when it is a room in a sometimes open pub. Such a shame.

The food here was okay We had no pictures but the food did look good but could of been better but I guess it was more of a drink oriented pub. We would probably not recommend it for food. Sorry just an honest opinion

It's ok pub it's our first time in there had dinner with 3 other friends I had spare ribs which was really nice but the 2 ladies had the fish fillet was very disappointed as the portion extremely small it's like starter not a main course.....had order 2 sides of vegetables to go with it ... unfortunately they arrived after the ladies finished the small portion of fish ... really disappointed and felt guilty as us the guys had the ribs and which was adquat portion .....so if you going to order the fish fillet make sure you order the vegetables otherwise you will end up hungry

Came here Saturday night with 5 other people and had a fantastic meal so booked for Sunday roast for 2 of us the next day! The whole meal was gorgeous, proper fresh veg, crispy roast potatoes, massive home made Yorkshire Puddings and really tender meat. Definitely be coming back again and highly recommend you try here

Very oily/greasy food. Even the scallops were drenched in oil. Terrible service - slow and miserable staff. The highlight of the night was the door :)

Very nice place, excellent service and food. Laid back atmosphere. Only thing that let us down was seated by the window on a sunny day, we all had to keep our sunglasses on. Recommended they add curtains or a blind!

Amazing food the Swan burger was delicious. The staff were excellent. Only downfall is the price of drinks especially a small soda and lime it was very expensive a pint of a lager and soda and lime for the driver nearly £8 Next door in the weatherspoons just over £3 for exactly the same

The food ambience were excellent. The service a little slow but did not affect our enjoyment of the evening. Gambas pil pil starter, cod in Parma ham mains & sticky toffee pudding to finish we're delicious. Strongly recommended albeit a little pricey at around £40 a head including voluntary tip.

Lovely little beer garden out of the way and not crazy busy like the pubs down the road. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The food was fantastic. I would highly recommend the club sandwich from the lunch menu. There was 10 of us and we all enjoyed our food. Kids meals come with French fries, some of the adults are with chunky chips that were like big roasties. I would really recommend the Swan.

Tasty Sunday roast! Good portion of meat, perfect potatoes and plenty of veg. Even squeezed a table of 6 in at last minute.

We stayed here the night before my wedding. It was very safe and quiet. The staff were friendly and helpful. As the bride, I would’ve like room 4 (nicer than 3 and 5). All the rooms are very different and quirky. My friend stayed in room 3 and the corridor smelt of smoke and the bathroom was tiny. Sadly, the bar and restaurant was closed on a Sunday evening. Thankfully, there’s a Wetherspoons down the road and you can come and go as you please from The Swan. Plenty of parking at the back - sign your car in at the bar. Overall, fairly good 😊
