Lovely hotel, staff friendly very clean and great location. The full English is worth a try.

This hotel is a gem! Second time staying here and asked for the same room (24). Room is amazing, with views out to the church. The hotel and the management are superb and omg the pub is perfect for a cold February with its open fire and historic features. All finished off with a hearty home cooked breakfast. Trying to find another reason to come back to Maldon 🤣

This is a pleasant pub, it offers a wide range of drinks including well presented ales. The buildings are historic and the owners have upgraded them enough to make a welcoming and comfortable pub without spoiling the historic charm. Highly recommended.

Lovely overnight stay at the Blue Boar. All staff have been friendly and efficient. The room was spot on, nice touch of a coffee machine in the room. Good parking and convenient for the town. Would definitely return if in the area.

We paid our first visit to Maldon for a weekend music workshop. The Blue Boar is located in the heart of the town centre, one of the oldest inns in Maldon and the building reflects this charmingly in its original wooden beams and squeaky floorboards. It contains sash windows, hence no double glazing, but even in January, was heated sufficiently. The cosy bar is a few steps across the cobblestone yard with a huge original stone fireplace and above it is the Long Room, with a stunning beamed ceiling. Our ensuite room has been modernised to reflect C18th style furniture plus flat screen tv. A generous breakfast choice was included in our booking. The staff were friendly and helpful. I would stay here again but probably in the summer as the dark grey skies did not show the town in it's best light.

Nice hotel. Well located in the centre of Maldon. There is unreserved parking available. The staff were very attentive. Small issue that our room, despite asking, was not cleaned on the first day. Breakfast was good.

Good old blue board, spit and saw dust good ale and central location ,open fires and a good talking spot .

Good range of beer served from the keg. Real fire.

Visited overnight to attend a wedding and I wish I had booked the week. The rooms are lovely with all details to ensure a comfortable stay. The breakfast was delicious and fresh! Clearly cooked to order. The staff were wonderful and attentive, chatty and generally a pleasure. The building itself gave me butterflies. Authentic, gorgeous decor and beautiful hallways and the lobby made me want to curl up in an armchair with a book ♡♡ the history is interesting and truly honoured throughout. I think it's worth saying too that the place was spotless - with all the decor yous expect some neglected bits but the place was impressively immaculate. If you do stay find time to wander the main street, the independent businesses are beautiful and inviting. Thankyou to everyone on shift during our stay. We will see you again soon.

We met a friend here in the evening for a drink and parked in the car park whilst in the pub garden, at a glance, the signage said it's good to park there after 5pm... Apparently you have to also leave your reg plate and get a digital permit from behind the bar... we found this out as we got FINED £60 for not doing this?! Are you serious? We even contested it after paying within the 2 weeks, and you still said no refund, even after proving we were patrons of the pub. Maybe you can use that £60 towards making a clearer sign... What a scam, NEVER coming here again.

Lovely place to stay food and drink good

We recently had a wedding reception here in the long room it was fantastic the staff was amazing helped as set up and where fantastic and on hand all night long the honeymoon suite was immaculate would highly recommended to anyone it was a brilliant night thank you all so very much for being part of a big day will definitely be coming back for a stay in your wonderful rooms and when I next have an event, I will be definitely using your long room as it is fantastic from mr and Mrs Davis the newly weds

Absolutely lovely hotel, very friendly staff especially the front of house staff, room spotless, great location, there was a private party going on, but this just added to the atmosphere in the beautiful pretty courtyard as we sat there having a drink, Breakfast superb nothing was too much trouble, a total little maldon gem we will definitely be back...thank you blue boar.☺️

Room was snug, couple of stains on the pillowcase, hair on the bedsheet, but was laundered, and a bit of dust in hard to clean places but it was a great stay with great service in a great location. Breakfast was ample too & cooked very well.

Lovely historic bar attached to the hotel. Colin provided a good service & the 1555 beer is delicious.

Very different experience. The room was nice, but there was no lock on the main entrance door. The area was busy with passing. The pub was very old and authentic. The main hotel was very interesting, and I believe a lot of historical inside

Nice little pub good selection of beers and spirits. Love all the taxidermy animals and fire place, gives it a real oldy feel.

a uniquely fascinating and historic pub and hotel dating back to the 1400’s - the new owners are sympathetically restoring and improving the fabric of this truly wonderful building whilst also bringing back,after a six year absence, a very welcome, albeit a pretty basic food menu - hopefully this will be expanded upon in due course. My favourite Essex pub situated in Maldon being the town of my birth - always look to visit whenever I’m back working in Essex or visiting my dad.

Overall, an average hotel with plenty of history. We were initially given room 21 on the top floor with plenty of steps to navigate. However, on entering the room, we noted a large wet patch on the ceiling with mould-like growth and a nice white stain on the chair. Happily, the staff on duty provided us with another room, which was meant to be the deluxe version our original booking. We had booked 3 rooms for the overnight stay. Although historically decorated, the bathroom was not cleaned particularly well. We noted a black mould-like substance in the corners of the shower and flaking paint on the coving. Although we were not aware of the church bells ringing all day and night, we had a very comfortable sleep in the bed and were oblivious to the bells chiming regularly overnight. In the dining room, there appeared a mismash of furniture and peeling paint on the walls. Not a very inviting room! The breakfast was adequate for our needs and freshly cooked and served quickly from the attentive staff. There was no room service or food offering in the evening, which we would have liked, however there are plenty of restaurants/ cafes in the high street a very short stroll away! Having watched the owner James Sinclair on Youtube over the last few years, I expected a more professional presentation from his offering. Overall, the rooms could have been better cleaned with more attention to detail.
