Southern fried chicken is a pack from a supermarket that is processed chicken in breadcrumbs from a supermarket 4 pack. Absolute crap, would have been better putting some in oven ourselves.

Not good. Order a large portion and after a 10 minute wait because they were cooking to order J received a large bag. Excited we went to our accommodation. How disappointing, Soggy chips, smallest fish ever. The battery was full of fat. So much so it upset.my tummy.

The lady serving us was very nice, food was really nice as always, it was £32 too feed are family of 4 so I’d say value was 4 stars but all round I know that I’ll be coming back.

Best Fish, Jumbo Sausages, Chips & sauces I’ve had for years. Will return without a doubt. Soft chips not too crispy & Batter was Battery and not Greasy.

Only went in to buy a bag of chips. Girl serving at counter was alone and busy packing a large order. However I was the only customer in the shop and didnt get any acknowledgement of my presence either visually or verbally. Bit ignorant I thought and left after 5 minutes.

My partner brought me home cod and chips for tea. I don’t have any complaints. The cod was nice and crispy and chips was cooked to perfection definitely recommend and I will be visiting for food again soon. My son also ate all the chips ( fussy eater ) so thumbs up from him too. Thank you Surrey chippy :)

Absolutely awful food chips were bitty and like mash potato and roe was so thin inside the batter Poor food will not use again

Fish was great and lovely batter but chips where over done hard and cold. Staff were friendly but looked as if they needed more training.

Let's be honest, you don't have to be a Michelin starred chef to cook fish and chips in a chippy. Literally, you had one job. How hard can it be? I'm no chef but I'd bet my house that I could do better than this. Here's a tip from someone who isn't a cook. . . Make sure the oil is HOT before you put the food in! Because if you don't, the food will absorb the oil and produce a mushy, oily mess that you'll end up having to pass off as fish and chips. Are you serious? You'll end up with a pale and totally inedible pile of rubbish that will not only look awful, it will taste awful. Add to that, that it will give you the trots for the whole of the next day, and you might just consider a different career. Whoever cooked our mess has earned the unenviable title of "Worst cook of the Century!"

Queued quite sometime for food but then it was during peak serving time My title "Had better" is the right statement to use we only bought some chips for ourselves and our peckish children Chips were pale tasted undercooked and where slightly soggy ,not sure the poly tray really helps to be honest I did contemplate driving back up from our site to complain but my children were hungry and didnt want to disappoint them

Lovely fish and chips today but please bin the tartare sauce sachets as they were nearly a year out of date and tasted off!

Our new treat on arrival at Borth is fish and chips onthe beach. THis fish is exceptional - all fish and a slight batter! (Opposite of usual experience else where - all batter and less fish) Thick chunky fish, superb.

Such a shame to end a lovely day with awful Fish & Chips. Fish batter undercooked and soggy in the majority. The chips were the worst chips I have ever had, soggy, greasy and undercooked. Even the children did not want to eat them. The best bit was the mushy peas!! Will not return or recommend.

The best gluten free fish and chips I have had anywhere. Us GF people tend to seek out friendly eateries - places that know what they are doing and understand food allergies. And then we keep going back to them. Well, that is me and the Surrey Cafe. Whenever I'm in Borth, I go there for muy fish and chip takeaway. (Worth noting, they also have a really good COVID safety setup. Simple but effective.)

The worst chips and veggie burger I have ever eaten. The chips were pale and soggy; I said ‘yes’ to salad and cheese on the burger, big mistake, it was served on a modgy bun with just the tasteless plastic cheese, no salad! My husband’s dried up half chicken and soggy chips were no better. We won’t be using it again.

Really quick and friendly service and good hygiene standards we loved our fish and chips! It is just next door to the Glanmor Hotel where we stayed so really convenient and on the beach to sit and eat.

Goto chippy for gluten free fish and chips. GF always available, generous portions, cooked fresh, friendly staff. Has become our Friday night treat. Even has GF curry sauce.

A certain man behind the counter with straw like blonde recieding hair thought it was clever to ask my 12 year old daughter ( who I will admit looks alot older) what she was up too over the weekend and if she ever fancied a drink with him!! Chips were a strange kind of brown colour and shrivelled. The worst i have ever seen. They were overpriced. This is the only chippy in Borth now.

Today we brought pie and chips from Surrey chip shop on route from North Wales to Tenby in our motorhome and the food was lovely and fresh and piping hot.The people working there were lovely and friendly (even if they did take the Micky out of my Arsenal shirt!!!) my daughter loved the kids meal in a real small bucket with spade. Definitely worth a visit recommended.

Called in for fish & chips - kids meals are served with a bucket & spade. Mini fish & chips were huge but the seagulls waited for the leftovers as we sat on the sea wall eating them

The cod and chips was nice, good portions and they do gluten free batter cooked separately. They sell all the pies, sausages, fish and of course mushy peas you expect at a fish and chip shop with tasty hand cut proper chips. The great bonus is they do gluten free with care.

This is the worst chip shop ever, The chips were cold and tasteless and multi coloured, one of the chips looked chewed and spat out, please see top tray in picture top left corner. Pie pastry was hard as a brick and the fish was dry, old and tasteless.

We regularly stop off here on the way back from Ynyslas. The fish and chips are always tasty (lovely fresh fish in particular) and they've now started doing kids' meals in a bucket with a little spade, which our children loved.

It's a chip shop. It sells tasty fish and pretty good chips, also the usual pies etc. And if the weather is nice you can sit on a bench on the prom and watch the waves.

Oh dear... I can’t say much else but how bad this place is... anaemic, cold, old, rotten chips. I mean, how hard is it to make golden, crispy potatoes? Obviously too hard for this place. I would avoid at all costs and would rather spend the time making my own. Utter rubbish

We bought 3 cones of chips that came in the thinnest cones I've ever seen, wrapped in paper, the cones were so thin they had no choice but to wrap them. The chips, which wasn't even the size of a potatoe each were a soggy & undercooked lump of mush. They cost £1.45 each (15p less than a full portion) disgusting price from rip off owners, who are just looking to make profit from greed, will never use them again! Thanks for ruining a planned moment, eating chips on the beach with our 5 year old daughter!

we drove nearly an hour to get to borth as we had previously been to the surrey before and as it was our day off and a lovely day we fancied a trip to borth we looked online to see when opening times were and the listing we found said it was open 11.30 am untill 11.00 pm every day and being the start of the easter holidays we took this as being right so off we went from tywyn only to find when we got to borth that the surrey is infact closed tues wed and thursdays we were not very amused as it was getting on for 1,30 so we knew that probably other chip shops would we closing at 2 pm .we drove on to aberystwyth and found a lovely fish and chip shop there that is open all day 6 days a week .

You might have to wait a little for your fish and chips but it is worth it,and the staff were allways polite and freindly

Went here on the way home, just what was needed. The kids had a actual small beech bucket with chips and fish fingers came with alittle spade, great idea. We all enjoyed what we had. Service fine and tidy inside.

Average chip shop, i regulary use this chip shop as i have a caravan on one of the local sites,portion sizes of chips can be questionable i regulary order large chips as the standard portion is way to small, but often the larger portion can be quite disappointing, eg a lot smaller than you would expect,very dependant on who is serving you, Have had in the past very greasy portions but this does now appear to have improved since new owner has taken over,Not bad but not brilliant

This the second visit here and Found that the Fish and chips were Tastier than on the previous occasion I suppose it really depends on how freshly fried they are so its down to timing Would try here again when in the area

This place must have changed hands. We ordered fish and chips, which I failed to fully eat, although I was hungry. The chips were far from crisp and the fish batter came away on the paper it was wrapped in. Very disappointed. I will avoid in future...not sure where is good though?

We got fish and chips here on our way to the campsite , the couple behind the counter were friendly .The food was nice , it seemed clean and did not smell when we went in .

I'm sorry to say I only went to the Surry on one occasion and it really put me off. I think the fish had been warmed up and was very rubbery and the chips were very bitty. Add to this the smell of rancid fat and you get the picture. It's a shame really as this is the nearest chip shop to the caravan sites at the far end of Borth and could do a roaring trade if it got it right. In the meantime I shall be going to the other end of Borth to the other chip shop where I've found consistently good quality.

This was our second visit to this chip shop still with lots of choice on the menu .we were served by the same gentleman who served us last time and there was a lady doing the cooking .I ordered the southern fried chicken and chips and my partner ordered the jumbo sausage and chips .The southern fried chicken was so very nice the chicken was moist and the southern fried coating was the nicest i have ever had it was not overcooked i could taste all the flavours in it and then the flavour of the chicken ,the chips were freshly cooked and again very very nice a really nice potato taste not dried frozen potato and there were no hard bits left in the tray when finished ,all the dish was all chips no waste .My partner said his jumbo sausage was really nice too not over cooked .The chip shop wasn't busy there was a family in front of us and a couple came in behind us and as we sat outside eating in our car we saw a steady stream of people entering the chip shop .The gentleman who served us again was very friendly and the family in front of us asked for certain food items to be packed a certain way and the gentleman serving did all he could to oblige no problem . we will definitely go here again .Our food came to just over £7

Batter and chips were greasy. Chips were hard with black bits on them. Peas were dull and tasteless. The actual fish inside the greasy batter was nice and the Lady serving was very pleasant but for £6.50 it was poor food overall. Half the chips and all the batter went in the bin.

Terrible food the oil it's fried in tastes off.not good food?I would not recommend this chippy.If the other chippy is closed I don't bother going here.It's not a one off I gone a few times and when I have been on the evening close to opening time the chips taste as though they are from lunch time.

We called in to buy our grandson some food , he had so much choice he choose chicken nuggets and they were lovely I really don't know but I'm sure they were home made . The two ladies in there cooking and serving were lovely and friendly .

Last Sunday just to finish my visit at Borth I had to try this place and u know what it was great chips nice and crispy , had only a cone but next time I go for big fish and chips .I looked and smell good , no smell of old oil or smelly fish. I recommend this place ! Simply delicious classic.

The shop looks a little tatty from outside, but there is a good range of chip shop food available, including children's meals and vegetarian options. The chips were very tasty, much better than others in the area, I thought. The pricing was good too, so didn't get the usual feeling of being ripped off at the seaside!

Since when has mini fish and chips as a special been £4.30 got ripped off 16-8-15 looks like they need a Subway that will wake the place up lol

While spending the day at the beach we visited the Surrey for that must have fish and chip lunch and was encouraged by the 5 point hygiene rating in the window. I always expect fish and chips at the sea side to be excellent and felt that although everybody liked the fish and chips here, I would say it's good rather than very good, so only gets an average as good rating is not an option.

This was handy with not many other takeaway food shops available in the nearby area. reasonably priced with the normal food on offer. nothing exceptional.

We usually end up at the Surrey at some point during our frequent visits to Borth, unlike one of the other reviewers on here I've never had an overly 'greasy' meal. The food is cooked in oil, obviously, but I've always found their stuff crispy and fresh tasting. The staff are friendly and the bucket and spade for serving the kids food is quite a sweet idea.I have noticed that the portion sizes vary quite a bit, but it's reasonably priced and the staff have always been absolute sweethearts.

Has to be the worst chips iv ever had greasy crispy old made me and the kids feel ill after eating would defo not recommend this place at all

I had plaice from this shop and it was so so fresh and succulent, tasty and melted in my mouth, the batter was to die for it was crispy and thin, it was delicious. My family had the chips and sausages and beefburger and all of it was great. Will def recommend to others.

I have used this place many times over the years (mainly 10+years ago it was ok then) and had been told that it had gone right downhill and was not fit for human consumption undercooked greasy chips, abysmal fish that stinks so bad a starved cat wouldn't eat it,, anyway whilst i was visiting Borth I fancied some chips so I thought I would see if it has improved, WHAT a mistake that was thankfully I only ordered a portion of chips £1.50 for a very small portion of what can only be described as a very greasy portion of chips packaged away from you so you can’t see how bad they are, even the poor young girl looked ashamed of what she had to do to earn a wage, the chips would best be described as cold inedible very greasy half cooked half smashed with the scoop dead potatoes. what I don’t understand is the boy cooking them should have a bit of self respect and only be prepared to serve what he would eat himself, as for some of the previous reviews, “real potato chips not pre frozen you could taste the potato not the oil the fish was delicious too” I’m sorry I’m not sure what planet you have just arrived from.

Searched everywhere in Borth for fish and chip one night and everywhere was closed bar this place. Lots to choose from on the menu and all in all it was a pretty standard fish and chip story.

Quick serviceLovely fish and chipseat insideeat outside, but only 2 small tablesor take on to the beach to eat as that was accross the road.Parking outside if you are lucky, or use pay and display also opposite.
