Gave a 2 because the waitress was lovely. Food terrible. Items missing, cold food, congealed cauliflower cheese and overcooked potatoes. Would not return! Did complain but fell on deaf ears.

We had a family meal to celebrate my birthday and what a fab evening, Dave & team were very friendly and welcoming, the food was amazing I’m GF so it was nice to have options and wow my meal was lovely topped off with sticky toffee pudding GF, I would highly recommend visiting the sun x

Lovely pub, great service but very average food which is very over priced. The pub garden could be made into a lovely cosy place to sit and soak up the sun but is let down by lots of aging picnic tables and a plastic covered marque.

Went for lunch today with our daughter who is a coeliac, this can be really tricky at most restaurants finding anything she likes gluten free. We sat in the garden and to our delight the gluten free options were clearly listed and had a good choice. We all really enjoyed our meals, puddings were homemade which was a real bonus and my cheesecake was fantastic, my daughter had the brownies and couldn’t fault them. The staff were super friendly and helpful, If you have a gluten free requirement I can definitely recommend this place. We will be back !!

An awesome country village pub! The lovely staff went out of their way to fit us in for a family Mother’s Day roast dinner (last minute). I have to say it was so lovely. I am a roast dinner lover and this has to be the best I’ve had by far. The beef was so tender, fabulous roasties, lots of veg and perfect cauliflower cheese! Really nice gravy too 😋 Would 100% recommend! ⭐️

Visited today with family, this is a hidden Gem! The food was fantastic (the kids ate everything) and the staff were amazing and caring especially with the children. Thank you! We can’t wait to come back.

Pre booked a table for 1930hrs on Saturday - wasn’t told the kitchen closed at 2000hrs. Drinks and dinner served - fair but very small portions. Went to order puddings and coffees to be told ‘kitchen has closed but we can warm something up and the coffee machine is broken but you can have instant coffee’ Pub very quiet. Emptied by 2000/2100hrs where staff proceeded to hoover and cash up.

Excellent food, friendly attentive staff members, clean and well decorated and a lovely atmosphere. It’s dog friendly too.

Great fun, food, drink and lovely staff. The Monday evening darts competition was really good fun. Highly recommended.

We enjoy visiting our local to meet our friends. The pub has a good warm and welcoming vibe. The fire is a bonus during the cold winter days and nights. The menu is varied to suit all needs. We especially enjoy the fish and chips and Sun burger. The Sun team work hard to make you feel welcome and take their time to understand the customers individual needs. We are looking forward to the events taking place over the next few months. Thanks to the Sun team.

I agree with most or all of the good reviews here, one small thing though.... They were offering only instant coffee because their coffee machine was out of action. Invest in a cafetiére and kettle, just in case. Problem solved!

Fantastic 'service with a smile' and the food is brilliant. Lewis and all the staff are very accommodating and nothing is too much trouble, The Sun Inn is highly recommended. It has the 'wow' factor.

Wow. Have been coming now for several months and has never failed on delivery. The food has always been great and will always return to thus pleasant quiet country pub. Booked the table for 7pm and the staff made us so welcome and made us feel so comfortable. I'd recommend this quaint quiet pub for an evening of great food and a lovely service. Book you won't be disappointed!!!

The Sun Inn at Lydiard is a real gem, lovely old country pub with a warm and friendly atmosphere. Food and drink choices always good and so is the excellent service. Highly recommended and well worth a visit to this cosy, proper village/country pub.

Another fantastic Sunday Lunch in our village pub. Beef for me and Chicken for the better half and both accompanied by all the trimmings (including some extra Cauliflower Cheese). So lucky to have this pub and the team that run it as our local. Whilst we were there they were setting up for the what is likely to be a busy festive season. Tree up, decorations up and lots of treats in store for everybody coming for a Christmas Meal, I might book myself.

We came here expecting to order a Sunday roast. However the pie on the pub menu looked so good that I changed to that. It was exceptionally good! Home made, short crust, totally enclosing tasty steak. Best pub pie I have had in years. My friend had the vegetarian Sunday roast option which was also exceptionally good with great roast potatoes and plenty of veg and extra gravy. I wish I had left room for their puddings!!

Just been here for a birthday lunch and was very impressed indeed. A well kept up together village pub and very clean inside and out. There was 6 of us and the food was amazing. We all had something different and they all came out together. Very generous portions indeed and would not hesitate to return for more lovely home cooked grub. Added bonus is its dog friendly so on return will be taking our dog. 10/10 for me 👍

We stopped into this gem of a venue and were amazed at the size and facilities that it had to offer we booked one of the quaint yet modern rooms and had lunch. We took a walk around the local Coates Water nature reserve that was adjacent to the pub garden and after a pleasant walk we returned and enjoyed a few of the many real ales with an evening meal. There was a good choice and reasonably priced, it was nice to see that families were very welcome with special kids meals and packs and a large kids play park in the garden, we were then treated the next morning to a good portioned breakfast and the local American muscle cars that meet here. All in all a very enjoyable experience and we have already planned to return in the folowing months

Popped in here for a late lunch with the family. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The food was reasonably priced and served promptly on hot plates. The pub was quiet when we dined and the atmosphere was nice and cosy. Would recommend a visit.

visited on Friday 25/03 with my wife for 53rd Anniversary. Alas a bit of a let down, menu very restricted, agreed meal was ok and staff very polite but less than I expected.

No menu except on a chalk board so all 12 had to get up from our table and order including children. When the food was delivered waitresses did not have a clue which kind of steak was on the plate. About 6-7 of us ordered steak some median some well done, they did not have a clue what sauce was with what steak. When I asked for a knife to cut the cake I was given a red handle meat knife. When ordered drinks, wrong ones ordered were bought out. Appalling service. Green beans served with steak and chips onion rings, I have never heard of it. Terrible and this was a ruby anniversary.

Don't hesitate to book this hotel, its AAAAA all the way!We booked here based on TripAdvisor reviews and they are all correct, the place is wonderful.If you get offered a deal, take it.The rooms are less than 2 years old and the beds are very comfy and there is lots of room. Showers are great. Food is great. Swindon is apparently questionable according to the locals but you won't experience anything other than a great night great food and good value. Four adults and two children made it a little trying for the waitress but she was very patient and helpful and went out of her way with suggestions to finally satisfy our requirements. The wait for the food was long enough to reassure us that it would be freshly cooked, which indeed it was. It was hot and it was excellent.

Nice atmosphere and ambiance, cosy dinner for two but it took two hours and we only ate one course, with a small nibble of whitebait while we waited. Friendly helpful staff, and the food was good with one exception. Dauphinoise potatoes too salty to eat. Chips replacement appeared after I had finished eating my main course (cooked specially). A warm summers evening meant the pub wasn't particularly busy, so why does it take so long to serve the meal?

White bait was first class and the goats cheese tartlet was wonderful. Must go for an evening meal. Very attentive staff.

Bargain basement price but for excellent and stylish accommodation. Looks good from the outside, and even better inside. Probably the best shower I've ever had! Rooms spacious and quiet at night, with no noticeable traffic noise, or even from the people above, so well insulated. We would recommend it to anyone, and all with a good pub next door.

My husband and I and our five children stopped off here for lunch on our way home from Cornwall, having found this in the 'Good Pub Guide'. It took the two girls behind the bar some time to acknowledge us as they were far too busy sorting glasses, despite us being the only people at the bar. Having finally got drinks from the rather offhand young madam behind the bar my husband asked if we could order food, to which we were told catagorically that "No, we aren't serving anymore food because we have a function later and the kitchen needs to get ready for that !". We settled for crisps for the kids and sat outside to quickly drink up and leave. A man was tidying up the garden and I asked him if he was the Landlord, he confirmed that he was, so I suggested to him that he might want to put a board outside saying they were not serving food to save people's time, he looked annoyed and said that they were still serving food and he couldn't understand why we had been told otherwise !!, he offered to refund the money for the crisps but by this point we just wanted to leave, and promptly did !! .
