Were do I start on this one Warm welcome,Pleasant Staff Fantastic food we will definitely go back highly recommend this pub. Ps double the staffs pay there a credit to The Star Inn.

Lovely traditional local pub. The bar area is small but there is a decent sized restaurant area at the back. There is a good selection on the menu with daily specials board as well. The food was delicious, with good portions and all good quality.

Been coming here for a few years now as it’s normally a great experience , that’s why we booked . It was a birthday lunch treat . Starter wasn’t what I expected . Salt and pepper ribs ? Ribs were pork belly ribs . Guess I was expecting ribs in salt and pepper spice but they were like pork chops with the peppers and onions had a little spice on . I asked for some salt and pepper spice but was given more peppers and onions with really hot chilli spice so I left them . Mentioned it to the waitress but she just walked away . Prawn ciabatta was lovely . Fresh with great bread , Really enjoyed that . Cheese cake was frozen in the middle . I can’t eat frozen cream due to a bowel condition so I just ate the defrosted bits . Waited 35 minutes to have anyone come for coffee option , more drinks , clear dessert plates so I could mention the frozen cake ect It didn’t happens so it turned into wanting the bill ?? There was no one around so it could have been end of peoples shifts . I mentioned the cheesecake and that was knocked off so that was nice . Came away hungry but they could have just had a busy short staff day ? As a chef I understand that . It’s normally brilliant when we go so don’t let this review put you off.

First of all, the waiting staff were excellent! Very friendly, accommodating and attentive. The food was tasty, although I do think a little on the pricey side for what you receive. I ordered from the "Specials" menu and paid £23.95 for the New York Strip, which came with some hand cut chips and some vegetables, which I discovered I had to share with my mother and her Slow Roasted Lamb Henry. I had presumed, wrongly, that we would get our own individual portions. That being said, it was a very pleasant dining experience, made all the more so, in part, due to the staff and the general atmosphere. There was no rushing us, food came out swiftly and hot and the staff genuinely seemed to care.

Amazing food, great service from both bar and restaurant staff - a little on the pricier side, but you fully get what you pay for here.

Love this place, everything about it from the lovely, friendly staff to the restaurant standard quality food. We came for my husbands birthday, The Star never lets us down, this family run inn and restaurant is well worth a visit, but make sure you book in advance.

so glad that we had booked as this place was really busy (we can now see why ) good sized car part ,extensively extended inside meals prices slightly on the higher side but you are getting quality. we had a combination of the fish's dishes the stroganoff and the curry had large bowl of veg and a large bowl of chips between is all so there was plenty quality of all the items was very good then had the cheesecake and sticky toffee pudding these were also very nice well worth a visit

went with some friends to this pub, and wow, it was it busy I'm so glad we had booked had a combination of the fish dish,s the curry, and the chicken stroganoff all were very good followed by the cheesecake and the sticky chocolate pudding again, these were also very good prices were a bit on the high side, but you paying for quality

Went for Sunday lunch today, lovely treat for my sister’s birthday. Great atmosphere and fabulous food as always. All the staff here are lovely. Looking forward to next time.

A large group of us had Christmas lunch there. It was really nice ... plenty of gravy. Asked for some extra veg and staff were helpful.

Love this pub. The food is always excellent, home cooked, good value and with lots of choice. Emma and everyone who works there are so friendly and helpful. The Christmas meal tonight was brilliant too. Thanks to everyone at the pub for a fabulous time. X

It's OK.. but that's it I ordered the fish & chips ...large when it comes out there was 4 fish goujons wasn't worth £19 and when I questioned it to a member of staff they the chef makes it like that.. but really it's not it's one made into 4 meals so the star in is making 150% profit!! So avoid being disappointed don't order the fish and chips... the farm house grill was OK but overpriced..

Visited Saturday for dinner. As soon as we walked in we were greeted and made welcome. Short wait till our table was ready. The excellent food was only bettered by the excellent service, the young staff who served us were very friendly and efficient. The bill was a pleasant surprise also. Will definitely be visiting again.

Came to the restaurant with a large party of 10 adults and a bunch of kids. The staff were excellent and handled our table with ease. Always had a drink, we never had to wait for someone to see to us, just always on the ball. The food was outstanding. All of it was great quality, fresh ingredients, piping hot and absolutely delicious. All for a reasonable price to boot. I would definitely go here again. If you're looking for this type of food, then give it a go, you won't be disappointed.

Truly great food with a fantastic range of menu options, nice cask ales available. Would have been nice to be asked for any mid-meal drinks top-ups.

First class service, excellent food.

First visit to this pub for lunch and I will be back. The staff are all friendly and the service is excellent. It's not the cheapest but you get what you pay for. Good menu selection with specials. I would recommend that you book as it does seem to get busy.

Lovely atmosphere, all the staff were very nice and polite, service was excellent, the food was really good we had the panko brie and goats cheese for starters for main we had Tallahassee chicken and the Wexford steak which was cooked just right medium .lemon meringue and jam Roly poly and custard for dessert both were amazing and the price was very reasonable a pint of coke 0%beer and 0%gin and tonic . Would highly recommend this family run pub to anyone. It's an old pub but good food and service done the old fashioned way no iPads or iPhone taking your order just pen and paper the way it should be . I'm a chef myself and hated the new systems in restaurants doesn't give the chef and the kitchen team any time to think . Writing the order down helps give the team time to prep so we're not rushing around like headless chickens . Well done to you for keeping to the old ways as they are the best . Your food is amazing thank you for a lovely evening after a traumatic day at the hospital .

Great food, great service and great atmosphere. My only slight criticism would be that there was not enough fat on my gammon steak , but otherwise perfect.

They have a system in England that if your party is over a certain amount you preorder your meals! Very efficient!

Whent for my sisters birthday dinner ,was a great dinner food was superb especially the beef and lamb dinners, I had the fish hake which was very good nice and tasty ,vegetables where the best we had in any pub or restaurant we will be back,staff very friendly and welcoming nothing to much for them they're a credit to the team .

Love this place ,great service and amazing food

22 of us booked in for mother in laws 80th. Dropped off balloons and banners and was welcomed and staff/owners were extremely helpful and friendly. One family member got held up but they were happy to hang on before bringing starters. We'd pre-ordered and food came swiftly with a decent gap between courses. The food itself was delicious. First visit for me but I'd heard good things. So good I went for 3 courses. Highly recommend and will definitely pay another visit. The bar itself looked nice and country cozy👍

Traditional British pub/restaurant. My latest visit with my wife was a very pleasant experience as what we have come to expect. As always friendly atmosphere and very good food. Plenty of choice from the menu and they have a specials board, which changes every week. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend. Friendly, efficient staff, happy vibes , what more would you want?

We go regular and take friends there, because you know the meals are 5 star plus. Unlike some local ones who let us down very, very badly.

ALWAYS amazing food, great atmosphere and great staff. Some resturants may be good one visit and poor on another visit. At the Star you never worry as you know they have a great chief who provides brilliant food, every time. THANKYOU xx

Lovely place in Rainford village. A wide choice of real ale was on offer, my Coach House - Postlethwaite was in fabulous condition. The food menu looked amazing, although I didn't eat. Quite busy for a Sunday night on my visit. Well worth a visit and I will again 👍

We always like going to the star, when we are over from Spain. To meet up with my cousins. Fantastic food and service at a good price. Very friendly, good services, the steak pie today was delicious. Thank you. See you again next year we hope.

Best pub in rainford by far. It's got everything but sky sports.

We called in on a Monday, so I couldn't comment about the food, but the place was welcoming and the choice of beer was very good and well served . I will definitely be going back on a food serving day, when I am next in the area

We've been coming here for ever, and the service and quality never faulters. If you want great food cooked from fresh in comfortable surroundings, served wigh a smile, or just excellent pint, this is a really great place to start.

Always great food. I'm vegatarian and love Hallumi and chips. The chef always cooks it in a separate fryer than the fish as I become ill with fish oil. Thankyou

Pork too tough to chew, all three meals, everyone left half. The staff didn't apologise when told just took the plates away. Very poor compared to our previous visits.

Not been here for a long while as you really need to book to get a table but the reason for that is because it's so nice. We managed to book a table Good Friday evening and took friends who were over and so glad we did. The food was lovely, the service ladies good and we all really enjoyed the meal. Would recommend.

From when we entered to when we left, the welcome, the service, and the food were excellent. Our party was there for Sunday lunch, but A'La carte menu was available. Staff were helpful and friendly and always around. If you go, you will need to book in advance as it gets very busy. And because of how busy it gets, parking can be a problem. Highly recommend

Really brilliant meal at the Star Inn in Rainford.Had the fish combo a yummy dish and generous portion with Salmin and Sea Bass.Very busy for a Wednesday lunchtime. Could do with being doggy friendly and that would attract even more patronage. Have 2xKing Charles Spaniels that enjoy being with us and a sausage each as a treat!! Overall very enjoyable lunch meeting up with an old school pal

Had a 3 course Christmas lunch and every course was exceptional. Such a lovely well run family pub never had a bad meal and was not disappointed either, the roast beef was melt in you mouth the gravy rich and the roast potatoes had a nice crisp edge with a fluffy centre, plenty of vegetables to top your dinner up with and the brie wedges with a rasperry sauce was a perfect combination. This was finished off with perfect tirramusi. The staff and service was faultless as it alway is, just wish i wouldn't leave it so long in between visits An excellent meal out worth every penny. Thanks to all staff at the Star.

Great restaurant with some great lunchtime specials and a full extensive menu. Lovely staff and great beer from Wainwright's, we have been going to the Star for years and have never been disappointed.
