As a family we went to the Star for Sunday Lunch. It is well worth a visit , the food and staff are lovely and there was so much choice and everything was so fresh . Can’t wait until the next time. Martha

Traveled up from Swansea, we booked the Star because of the reviews and it was close to our hotel and Bristol airport, I have never seen a pub so full but I know now the food was amazing, thank you so much

It was okay, you pay for what you get with a carvery. The kids eat free with an adult is good value

Terrible experience here recently, I had visited with 4 family members for a meal. We all had steak and it was all so tough, greasy and fatty. Not one of the steaks was cooked to how we requested, we asked for them all to go back and we had the pleasure of the small chef (Shaun I believe his name was) come out to tell us that there was nothing wrong with the meals he cooked and that we was all trying to get something for nothing!! I’m absolutely appalled by this and wanted to email the pub directly but unfortunately could not find an email! Safe to say we shall never be retuning after this diabolical encounter.

We called in to The Star Pub and Carvery - operated by Greene King - on Rhodygate Hill, Congresbury. It's conveniently situated right on the A370 and has a large customer car park, including an EV charging point. It was quite busy, nonetheless, we were able to secure a table at lunchtime without difficulty. The carvery was popular and it must be said, good value for money. The pub is large and has benefited from a recent makeover.

I loved meeting Tom today, he was really accompanying and he's the most polite and old school person. If you want anything.. ask him :) 😀

Had a delicious carvery meal , with good choice of vegetables and superbly cooked meats all at a very reasonable price.

Staff really attentive, friendly & polite. Helped with every need we had. Food was lovely, carvery looked amazing, will try that next time! Defo coming again, will bring the whole family next time. Place was really clean and tidy also, looked well looked after!

It has recently been refurbished and has a nice atmosphere. The food and drinks are good value, it is a chain pub, with a carvery and burgers etc, and it does well as that.

Came for Christmas dinner with my partner and grandmother. The food was amazing as always, atmosphere was great and the staff were lovely. I'd really recommend for a wonderful meal!

My van had broken down and I popped in to tell them that it was in the car park and will be recovered next day, a member of staff believed to be team leader, said it was fine, but at the time I had no money on me or payment card to get a bus home. They gave me the money to get home and wear I can get a bus from and too. Thank you. But as I popped in I saw the carvery and it looked very nice so Im going to pop in to have a carvery, place looked very tidy spacious and very welcoming. Thanks for your help staff.

Always warm and welcoming and looking great after a recent refurb. Great price carvery with a choice of meats and veggie options and you can load up on plenty of veg. Usually come at least once a week for the past 5 years.

Fabulous food and great value for money. Staff are all very friendly and welcoming. We return a couple of times a week as it’s so good. Would definitely recommend.

Family of 7 for Sunday lunch. The only improvement could be vegetables could be a bit warmer for my liking but fine for everyone else. I had to make 3 individual bookings as wouldn’t accept booking for a table of 7 but the manager was very good at allocating a table for 7 for us. As always a superb meal and very good value for money.

Wonderful meal. Tom served me and was absolutely brilliant, very kind and made the experience so much better.

All that's missing from the Christmas carvery is pigs in blankets. There is an option to pay extra for a large pig in blanket, which I tried last year but it wasn't that great, barely cooked, a few small well cooked (not quite burnt, but nicely crisped) ones would be nicer, though I'm too cheap to pay extra for them. The carvery is really nice though, the best for some miles around. The Christmas pudding was ok but nothing special, Christmas pudding in a pub ought to be a bit boozy, or at least have the option to be so, I should have tried one of the other desserts which looked ok.

Great place for a family meal. Eaten here a few times now and they never fails to dissapoint. Mixed grill is marvelous, the burgers are banging, and Sunday roasts superb. Friendly staff too. Parking can be difficult as it gets busy but worth the struggle. I'll be back again for sure 👍

Food was very good, no complaint, beef tasty and very tender. My problem lies with management, I think I lost my credit card on my visit, did not realise at first it was missing, I remember I used it whilst purchasing a drink. On trying to contact the star re this, was impossible. Only whilst trying desperately to contact a human being , let alone management was impossible. I left a desperate message at 8.30. am this morning requesting the management to contact me, this just did not happen. I do not feel that at this moment I would ever visit the Star again.

The food was ok put was not told there was not going to be no Yorkshire puddings also they had ran out of some of the puddings aswell the staff was not very helpful put apart from that it was nice a cosy in there

Popped in here for food on my way to Bristol airport it's roughly 10-20 mins from the Airport traffic depending obviously. The pub it's self is really nice and tastefully decorated, the staff couldn't have been anymore helpful. The food was delicious I got wings as a starter they were lovely. As a main I went with fish and chips medium and that was plenty one of the members of the travelling party got the large fish and chips it was massive. (See photo) it was absolutely beautiful the batter was so crispy and light I'd highly recommended it, we visited of a Monday and it was starting to get busy around 4.30pm for the carvery.

Brilliant food and great service

Everything about the pub is great the carvery and the service was really good, especially Luke who went above and beyond to make sure my friends and I were looked after

This was our first time there and Luke was looking after us he was really lovely and made our visit more enjoyable and we are all in our 70 so this was great

Really disappointed with this place. Booked a table for our anniversary meal which we arrived for at 8pm on Sunday ordered our main course but after we'd finished we went to order our desserts only to be told we couldn't because the kitchen was closed. Nobody came over to give us notice (we were there with one other couple) we had limited time. May I suggest u don't take bookings for this time if u aren't going to allow them to order what they want. Left feeling very disappointed as we'd looked forward to this meal out together.

Lovely carvery, best around by far, and very reasonably priced, only would say Sundays are really busy and car park is stacked, but well worth it!!

Just returned from a carvery with the in-laws who we recommend from our previous experience with this pub. So disappointed and a little embarrassed at having raved about the food to our guests. This time however we did not enjoy our meal half as much as our first. Unfortunately most of the veg was cold and the beef we had was either tough or too full of gristle that it was inedible. I did relay our disappointment to one of the waitresses and she said she would pass on our complaint to the kitchen staff. I have to point out through all my moaning that the staff were friendly enough and the Christmas lights and decorations were lovely.

Friendly staff with quick service and a calm environment even let us in early when our booking wasn't foe another half hour.

Meat was OK. Veg hard and tasted weird. Cauliflower cheese tasted of plastic. Stuffing not even been mixed. Carvery man seemed grumpy. Gravy was OK. Fairly expensive but let down by the veg and tbh no peas??? Had to ask for them and they were microwaved

Always good carvery but time states 1100 hours opening when is 1130 apparently, but then opened 1140.

Sunday lunch is VERY BUSY but actually went well for a family get together.. book a time to go early! Weekdays may be better. Food was very good. Not waitress service either altho plenty of helpful staff.

Prices were good but the food was disappointing and there weren't many staff. My mum had been the week before and raved about it, but when we went a week later, most of the veg was overdone (soggy broccoli and cauliflower, chewy leeks) with apparently a lot less choice. The meat however was cooked wonderfully.

It took an hour for our main courses to arrive, and when it did it was rather underwhelming. The chicken burger was rock solid and the bread was quite frankly inedible. The garlic bread was burned. The curry and chicken parm were actually quite nice. The chips were stone cold when they arrived. I quite got the feeling that the staff working this shift did not want to be there. There was non existent customer service, and while we waited an hour for our food, the staff began to ride the rubbish cart around the restaurant. In fairness, the prices were rather good. However, we were treated as if we were a burden on the staff. I For one will not be coming back to this location any time soon. This is majorly disappointing as under the previous ownership the food and service was exceptional. If I could rate it 0 stars I would.

Visited on the 26th October, will never step foot in this absolute shower of a hole again, service was absolutely rubbish. Food: god knows what it's like it didn't even come out, manager was very apologetic and very professional ( well done to him ) But I'm afraid to say 1 of the worst eating out experience I've ever had, shame: it was always a really good place to eat at, something has gone terribly wrong.

Busy on a Sunday, the atmosphere is nice. I only went out for a drink. Next time I have food there I will review again. The pub now has extra parking, but it's still incredible busy on a Sunday.

Have eaten here several times and this was the second carvery. The meats are very good and portion size is great (medium or large) side of roast veg, potatoes etc is great and refilled before it runs short. Great value in a very nice setting and very helpful staff.

This was my first visit to Greene King for a carvery. The service was quick and efficient. Their weekday prices are very reasonable. The food was good. Some of the veggies were a little undercooked for my taste, but I know that a lot of people prefer them the way they were served. I'll definitely come here again

Only been a couple of times, but every time has been an outstanding experience. Food is brilliant, staff is friendly, and it's overall just a good time.
