A group of six went Saturday for early mother's day meal "bar service good" ordered food"2x mixed grills "1steak*1 mixed chicken" 2x carvery "had a 45 + minute wait""So had to go to bar "& ask where food was or how much longer to wait"was told was on way"when food did arrive it was cold" not impressed" with there cold meals""as being very hungry, they waited for a long period "we all wonted to eat at same Time"* Was to long of a wait again for meals to be changed"*a shame"* meat was good on carvery "but frozen roast potato's not good we're dry, tasteless"all other veg was cooked really well, also a very nice mixed selection" *apart from the main meals being cold"which was disappointing"not a bad carvery"not sure why it was not as good as last time we visited" for what ever reasons"for lunch"at the star*"also our tables were not cleared after our meals & had puddings delivered with our plates left on tables" we had to move our plates to another table"to be cleared away, strange not sure why or if common practice here"not the best experience"hot food is not much to ask for"if it's cooked to order" as should arrive hot at least after a long wait"mixed veiws,not sure if will try pub again in the future"

Owner is very accommodating super friendly would absolutely recommend visiting this restaurant you won’t regret it!

Cheap and cheerful. Nicely renovated since the last time I was here. Food has always been great for the price. Did take sometime to come out but, we did go on a busy weekend. Overall, great place for a lunch stop off.

Just had a lovely Mother's Day Sunday Lunch at Star Rhodyate (don't put Starr Inn in Google Maps, it gives you the location and photo of Rose Cottage, Rhodyate Hill).

Pop in for a meal today found a table as they wasn't busy at all ordered our meal which we eventually got to find my meal was awful I had things missing off my plate wasn't many staff about to complain so won't be eating there again

The star was a realy nice pub for a meal and the service was excellent.

The food and service here was amazing! No faults at all for me or my family. Our waiter Luke was especially attentive and polite. Highly recommend.

Came in for Saturday lunch. Food was great even though there was a wait, expected for the time though. Service was absolutely lovely greeted us and talked to us multiple times seemed like a really especially for a young guy! Would absolutely recommend!

Had a few meals there and unfortunately this experience was not great. The wait for the food was over 50 minutes and when the meals arrived the adult cheeseburger meal was cold. In addition to this, one of the children's meals was still cooking. This arrived about 5-10 minutes after the other meals were on the table which was not good. There was no cutlery to be found and when we spoke to a female server had a brush off. The young gentleman we spoke to was apologetic and organised a refund. Very disappointed considering other experiences we had there

Banging carvery really good staff and manager

We went for a birthday meal yesterday, our table was booked for 12, we arrived at 11.30 and the pub didn't even open the doors until 11.45. The manager Adam is rude dismissive and very arrogant, I heard him say to 1 customer - my pub, my rules!!! . In fact I heard a few people make comments. We were sat in a booth by the door so there were people constantly queuing up behind us. We asked for large carvery's but he put through standard so I had to queue again to get it changed. 2 of the party didn't want a carvery and 3 other dishes that were chosen weren't available. We all finished our meals and the dirty plates were left in front of us for well over an hour No toilet roll in 2 of the ladies toilets Basically a complete shambles

Great selection of foods, very well cooked aswell and loved the whole vibe of the place. A go to when visiting the area definitely reccomend.

We decided to book to go for a carvery. We realised it would be busy being a Sunday. The lack of staff wasn’t good. The queues for the carvery were ridiculous. We had to wait over an hour for main menu food. I chose two items which weren’t available. Such a shame as I have been before and it was good.

Came Friday evening, there was a bit of a wait on food, but it was busy and pay day weekend so it was expected! Food came out, hot and fresh and was worth the wait! Staff helpful and friendly, even helping my mum back to the table with her carvery! Can never fault the food or the staff!

Popped in for a midweek week Roast, absolutely delicious, lots of variety of veg, great to see a different selection each time we come. Especially like the new summer windows in the conservatory, brightens up the room ready for Spring. Also seen they’re advertising for Mother’s Day, definitely thinking of booking in with my mum. Staff fab as always, super helpful & attentive! Will be back soon!🥰

First time going here, great food, great service. We went here at 16.30 and it was busy up to 18.00 when we left. This speaks volumes as there were queues for the carvery and to even get in. Would definitely go back.

Carvery food not good, veg overcooked and cold by the time you get back to your table.

The Star is bringing back what a real village pub should be... proper community, history on the walls, and a warm welcome. It’s been forgotten by some, maybe because it’s up the hill, but step inside, And it’s like stepping back into Congresbury’s past. The old photos, the cozy feel, the good, affordable food and Olivia and Tyler making it a home is all there, waiting to be part of the village again. The staff are some of the friendliest around, and it’s clear this place is ready to take back its spot as the local. Unlike the others around the village (O.I) , it’s not just another pub... it actually feels like home. Staff make this place the most family friendly place ever, they are happy to include all walks of life, and are very inclusive with anyone who walks in, whether its mental health, normal health and additional needs. Its amazing. Long live the star. X

We had a nice lunch yesterday, polite staff but we sat in the TV lounge & it was very cold 🥶 sadly 😥 the heating could have been turned up

Always excellent food. We have never had a bad meal so we like to visit when we can. Atmosphere always nice and the staff are always friendly. Desserts can sometimes take a while but it's a nice place do yiu don't mind waiting. Only critique would be management of the floor....plates and glasses can build up and I do see waiting staff returning to the kitchen empty handed. Maybe a floor supervisor or floor manager could help here. But overall I'd highly recommend. And the carvery is one of the best we've had.

Updated review from my previous 3* rating 5 years ago. We had a lovely carvery meal at The Star today. Generous portions of meat and lots of vegetables and trimmings. Friendly service and good value.

Average in every sense unfortunately...

Lovely refurbished place to eat but could do with some staff that will pull their finger out and get on with the job, customer service skills. They have replied that they will get better but unfortunately a few months later and it's not the case, the carvery is disgusting and the toilets stink, need some decent old school staff who have customer skills....

As a family we went to the Star for Sunday Lunch. It is well worth a visit , the food and staff are lovely and there was so much choice and everything was so fresh . Can’t wait until the next time. Martha

Traveled up from Swansea, we booked the Star because of the reviews and it was close to our hotel and Bristol airport, I have never seen a pub so full but I know now the food was amazing, thank you so much

Terrible experience here recently, I had visited with 4 family members for a meal. We all had steak and it was all so tough, greasy and fatty. Not one of the steaks was cooked to how we requested, we asked for them all to go back and we had the pleasure of the small chef (Shaun I believe his name was) come out to tell us that there was nothing wrong with the meals he cooked and that we was all trying to get something for nothing!! I’m absolutely appalled by this and wanted to email the pub directly but unfortunately could not find an email! Safe to say we shall never be retuning after this diabolical encounter.

We called in to The Star Pub and Carvery - operated by Greene King - on Rhodygate Hill, Congresbury. It's conveniently situated right on the A370 and has a large customer car park, including an EV charging point. It was quite busy, nonetheless, we were able to secure a table at lunchtime without difficulty. The carvery was popular and it must be said, good value for money. The pub is large and has benefited from a recent makeover.

I live local and am a regular. The quality of food is amazing and the service is attentive and friendly. Great family atmosphere and the carvery is one of the best I've had. Never disappointed looking forward to returning Friday!!

Came for Christmas dinner with my partner and grandmother. The food was amazing as always, atmosphere was great and the staff were lovely. I'd really recommend for a wonderful meal!

It has recently been refurbished and has a nice atmosphere. The food and drinks are good value, it is a chain pub, with a carvery and burgers etc, and it does well as that.

My van had broken down and I popped in to tell them that it was in the car park and will be recovered next day, a member of staff believed to be team leader, said it was fine, but at the time I had no money on me or payment card to get a bus home. They gave me the money to get home and wear I can get a bus from and too. Thank you. But as I popped in I saw the carvery and it looked very nice so Im going to pop in to have a carvery, place looked very tidy spacious and very welcoming. Thanks for your help staff.

Always warm and welcoming and looking great after a recent refurb. Great price carvery with a choice of meats and veggie options and you can load up on plenty of veg. Usually come at least once a week for the past 5 years.

Had meals for many years .But gone down hill two few staff one person serving meals and serving drinkks Open your eyes owners as it can go down hill as fast as it when up Not going back are party only had six in queue 30 minutes VERY UNPROFESSIONAL.

Family of 7 for Sunday lunch. The only improvement could be vegetables could be a bit warmer for my liking but fine for everyone else. I had to make 3 individual bookings as wouldn’t accept booking for a table of 7 but the manager was very good at allocating a table for 7 for us. As always a superb meal and very good value for money.

Lovely carvery and fab service from Tom!

All that's missing from the Christmas carvery is pigs in blankets. There is an option to pay extra for a large pig in blanket, which I tried last year but it wasn't that great, barely cooked, a few small well cooked (not quite burnt, but nicely crisped) ones would be nicer, though I'm too cheap to pay extra for them. The carvery is really nice though, the best for some miles around. The Christmas pudding was ok but nothing special, Christmas pudding in a pub ought to be a bit boozy, or at least have the option to be so, I should have tried one of the other desserts which looked ok.

Great place for a family meal. Eaten here a few times now and they never fails to dissapoint. Mixed grill is marvelous, the burgers are banging, and Sunday roasts superb. Friendly staff too. Parking can be difficult as it gets busy but worth the struggle. I'll be back again for sure 👍

Food was very good, no complaint, beef tasty and very tender. My problem lies with management, I think I lost my credit card on my visit, did not realise at first it was missing, I remember I used it whilst purchasing a drink. On trying to contact the star re this, was impossible. Only whilst trying desperately to contact a human being , let alone management was impossible. I left a desperate message at 8.30. am this morning requesting the management to contact me, this just did not happen. I do not feel that at this moment I would ever visit the Star again.

The food was ok put was not told there was not going to be no Yorkshire puddings also they had ran out of some of the puddings aswell the staff was not very helpful put apart from that it was nice a cosy in there

The carvery was excellent value, but let down by undercooked vegetables & no mashed potatoes!

Popped in here for food on my way to Bristol airport it's roughly 10-20 mins from the Airport traffic depending obviously. The pub it's self is really nice and tastefully decorated, the staff couldn't have been anymore helpful. The food was delicious I got wings as a starter they were lovely. As a main I went with fish and chips medium and that was plenty one of the members of the travelling party got the large fish and chips it was massive. (See photo) it was absolutely beautiful the batter was so crispy and light I'd highly recommended it, we visited of a Monday and it was starting to get busy around 4.30pm for the carvery.

Brilliant food and great service

Everything about the pub is great the carvery and the service was really good, especially Luke who went above and beyond to make sure my friends and I were looked after

This was our first time there and Luke was looking after us he was really lovely and made our visit more enjoyable and we are all in our 70 so this was great

Really disappointed with this place. Booked a table for our anniversary meal which we arrived for at 8pm on Sunday ordered our main course but after we'd finished we went to order our desserts only to be told we couldn't because the kitchen was closed. Nobody came over to give us notice (we were there with one other couple) we had limited time. May I suggest u don't take bookings for this time if u aren't going to allow them to order what they want. Left feeling very disappointed as we'd looked forward to this meal out together.

Been there quite a few times but was disappointed with our recent visit. Waited ages to be served, meat choice poor, some vegetables very undercooked

Just returned from a carvery with the in-laws who we recommend from our previous experience with this pub. So disappointed and a little embarrassed at having raved about the food to our guests. This time however we did not enjoy our meal half as much as our first. Unfortunately most of the veg was cold and the beef we had was either tough or too full of gristle that it was inedible. I did relay our disappointment to one of the waitresses and she said she would pass on our complaint to the kitchen staff. I have to point out through all my moaning that the staff were friendly enough and the Christmas lights and decorations were lovely.
