Excellent all round could not be any better

Very good and the food amazing we had a carvery and really enjoy

I really think you need to update your menu on your website .because the prices you are offering ..on your website menu .is most definitely not the correct prices on visiting the premises . I visit once a month with my dad .. we nearly always both have the carvery .. which is lovely .. by the way .. the only criticism is that we arrive for midday ... And all though we can pile up on all vegetables and potatoes etc . The meat .is very very sparring... Whether you are being cautious because it's only just midday .I do not know .... But . I feel seeing the prices have increased quite significantly . The least you can do is offer a good supply of meat .whatever time you arrive . Other than that . We enjoy our meal .

10/10 Carvery, Best in the area

Went back for two free meals due to the standard of food there back in July and for the fact it took a month to get my refund! Sadly the food was just as rubbish. Hot/cold chips, some cooked, some not, cold peas, steaks that were in edible, etc etc. the only plus point I can make is that the chef did a pretty good job of zig zagging the sauce under my desert across the plate. Which lets be honest a 5 year old could do. Won't be going back again.

Today was our first bad experience! We love the star!! The host booking in table is in the way to close to the door. as a result whilst we were waiting for our host, we had to constantly keep moving out of the way of people leaving and entering. Very awkward especially with children We were told on arrival the oven broke. I get that this is out of your control, but considering when I book my number is provided I would expect a phone call to tell us there carvery was closed. Had this been the case we would have cancelled!!! We decided to order off the main menu. Mains came out in good time. Nicely cooked! On 2 meals the crispy chicken was missing i had to ask for it. Then after asking for my daughters dessert we waited over 20mins. Then we had a CAT under our feet. Was told its the managers!!! staff promptly picked it up. Unacceptable to have animal in a restaurant setting. Trouble is now the car park is done the fire exit is in constant use and I found myself and others taking it in turn to close. I feel we should have been offered complimentary drinks. Very disappointed today sadly.

Food was as expected for the price but unfortunately the service was diabolical! .we had booked a a table so we stood by the desk waiting to be told where our table was , seemed plenty of staff but nobody acknowledged us so had to approach a member of staff . He couldn’t find our booking and told us to sit where we wanted anywhere. 2 other members of our party had arrived before us so unknown to us were sat on another table ! This was about 15 minutes until I went to the bar and they also at the bar . They had ordered coffee and had to return as it was cold . Stood at the bar I was the only one there 3 members of staff doing things in the bar but never acknowledged me until I asked to be served!! Starters were cleared away, but that was the last we saw of anybody table wasn’t cleared of empty glasses bottles etc . No excuse for this as it wasn’t busy at all, nobody seem to be in charge. Won’t be going there again been to other Green kings I’ve never had this problem before always greeted at the door or at least somebody speaks to you and ask if they can help you..

We stopped here as we spotted kids eat free at the weekend. We had the carvery, which was not gastropub level, but was fine. Three small plates and a medium for £20.48! Bearing in mind kids ate free. £15 more for drinks. Staff were lovely. Pub and toilets were clean. Would definitely come back.

Ordered two meals on Monday evening table 34 in both cases the fried chicken was overcooked the chips were warm at best and the service was poor. We had to ask for our drinks which hadn’t come either. At no point were we asked if the food was ok and ended up leaving the table with very little of the meals eaten - very disappointed we won’t be back

Lovely food slightly overcooked chicken and bit basic food presentation no garnish or any attempt to make the food more presentable.. Food server didn't ask if we needed anything extra like sauces just plonked the food down and was gone! Very dull quiet atmosphere could have had some music playing in the background perhaps? Pub its self clean n tidy

Lovely pub with great staff. I had the All Day Big Breakfast which was excellent and great value.

The staff were wonderful and the place is clean and inviting. The food was average pub grub but I think people like the carvery, we didn’t try it but it looked tasty. The sticky toffee pudding was the worst we have ever had unfortunately. But they have Madri on tap so that made up for it.

Still waiting for a refund on food we sent back over 3 wks ago now. Don't answer the phone, don't reply to answering machine. Shocking. Hoping they might see this and actually contact me.

Early sunday evening carvery, very good, more choice than Brent Knoll, will be back.

Went for a carvery with the family this was our second time here the food was amazing could only manage a standard size meal as the large was way to big for me. Good service attentive helpful staff will definitely go here again

Good place to eat, very good quality for the price

we come here nearly every thursday & just love the place however as usual we book our chosen table but today another couple had ignored the reservation notice & ovcupied the table how can some people be so rude & igorant we found another table but felt cheated

As a carvery goes, it's OK. Nothing special. The outside seating area all had ashtrays, when the law states there should be a designated smoking area.

Came in Saturday with a booking of four. Upon arrival, a polite gentleman took me to my table. I ordered a steak fondue, the meat was a little underdone however the food wasn’t cold or bland and quite tasty. We had a wonderful experience talking with a polite young lady with a name I cannot spell unfortunately, who cared to ask about the quality of my food and continued to help us despite us as customers being quite demanding. Another staff member who I couldn’t catch the name of, was very well mannered. We were however waiting at the bar for a while, but the man then saw to us quickly. Overall a positive experience with costumer service and food, my family would agree to come again.

Cheap and cheerful decent portions. Update... I haven't been here with my family for a good few years now, and this place has really upped its game. 100% enjoyable the food was great much better quality than before and the experience is all round more pleasing. If you haven't been recently, definitely return.

Everything was great apart from the burger was dry and the parking it has taken away parking spaces to improve the premises now you don't have nowhere near enough parking spaces people booking tables but when they turn up there is nowhere to park will think again before booking

Well priced, big portions, great food.

Booked a table for a birthday dinner. Turned up, no staff in sight so had to hang around to try and get someone's attention to be shown to our table. Ordered and paid at the bar to then overhear there was only gammon on the carvery, no other choice of meat left. None of us eat gammon so we got a refund and walked out. Really disappointing.

Really disappointed. I booked a table for my husband’s 70th birthday. I stated on the booking form it was a special occasion and we would be having the carvery. I paid for drinks and the 4 carveries, only to overhear there was only gammon. We were not told directly. Got a refund, but it spoiled our celebrations. Won’t be back. Also, they have removed lots of parking for electric charging points, which were empty. Lots of cars looking for space, but gave up and left.

On arrival they couldn't find my reservation the the manager came and seated us when to the bar to order and was ignored by 4 different member of staff when we did get seen to the staff member was polite and professional the food was of good quality and a generous portion I will come back and hope that this Miner issues can get sorted

The Star - in Congresbury, Bristol is a recommended Greene King owned restaurant, pub and carvery to visit. It serves classic dishes, simplistic foreign dishes and various alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages; the staff members were friendly and helpful, the parking was plentiful and accessible and on the occasion when visited the service areas were spotlessly clean. It's a definite recommendation to visit The Star in Congresbury, Bristol.

Lovely food in a friendly pub. There didn't seem to be many staff members on. However, they were all polite, friendly and helpful.

Changing my current 5 star review to 1 star and will not be returning. We came Saturday evening at 7 o’clock with the other half and kids ordering carvery’s. I opted for a steak that came out 20 minutes after my party finished. The steak was raw and still mooing at me. I then sent it back and still waiting for it to come out and it is 8:17 And an update that it finally came out to the other extent where the steak was still un eatable and was just chucked back in the grill to the extend the bit I spat out which was raw was just re cooked ! ! I understand people make mistakes but to make a mistake twice is unacceptable and telling them it was raw. The other food on the plate was left under the light making all of the other food dry. This is probably our 20th time here and are very disappointed and will be telling family and friends not to eat here ! One woman apologised that was all we got awful customer service ! We have seen better dog food If you want food poisoning or shoddy customer service go elsewhere ! The stag and hounds is not far or the pop down to Weston. Coming out they even had youths on the roof ! Lovely place

I've been here a few times now, and every time I've been here, the food is amazing, and the staff are very friendly and polite and helpful, and the place is very clean and tidy plenty of parking spaces I ordered from the table as it's a lot easier for me I would recommend this place to anyone including friends and family

Really enjoyed r time there, carvery was lovely, staff friendly, was chattin to the young lad, I 4got his name, lovely lad tho, will def b back.. pleased that dogs r allowed in, will def b bringin my little princess when the weather is a bit warmer as she loves to sit in pub gardens.. 😊😊..

We popped in after a funeral, the carvery was delicious and the steak/chicken cheese fondue was exceptional. The drinks were appropriately priced as was the food. The desert were awesome. If I am back that way again I would certainly go back.

Excellent carvery during a weekday..excellent absolutely to die for parsnips and toasties.. inexpensive menu excellent choice for adults and children Certainly recommend Steak was a little over cooked but edible

Shame I had to leave a star for this! Very disappointed me and my partner have been here before n food was fab but on todays visit it was very horrid only decent thing we had was the gammon everything else was either hard or cold! Definitely will not be coming here again!!! 😢 such a shame as it use to be a lovely pub

Car parking incredibly difficult - no spaces. Food very good (Sunday carvery) with wide choice of veg. Surprisingly short queue to be served considering how busy they were. Prices very reasonable. Quite noisy atmosphere making conversation tricky.

Meat was lovely and tender but the rest of the carvery offerings were not hot and the vegetables were cooked to death, lovely warm day and can appreciate them having the door open but there was a draft blowing across the food area so this is why most of it was cold.

The food was Fantastic particularly the roast parsnip and they had two different roast potatoes the ones with season were beautiful please don’t stop doing the potatoes or the parsnip how they were today will definitely be back soon with friends we Sunday lunch a lot and we are a fussy bunch if you look at my other reviews of other food place some expensive and not worthy of a return but this dinner was so so good.

We eat & drink at The Star on a regular basis as our local 😍 Food lovely for the price and always a great carvery these days. Quieter this evening so nice to talk to staff without the usual mad rush 😵‍💫. Great fish & chips and piping hot. Pretty attention on desserts tonight thanks to Emma 🫶🤩

12 of us out for a birthday get together on a Tuesday evening. Relatively quiet in the place. Most of us had a carvery which was of a good standard and at a very reasonable cost. Staff and surroundings very good. Overall well worth a visit if you're not looking to spend a fortune. Just one little complaint, the card menus at the tables should be plastic covered that can be wiped down as many of them were very greasy with food etc, simple to remedy as it's a little off putting.

A carvery experience to avoid. You know it when the guy carving meat is wearing a "bad chef" cap. And they lived up to it. Meat cut so thin, you could see the plate through it. Veg either pure mush (carrots, broccoli, and cauliflower cheese), frozen roast potatoes and the cabbage was hard with plenty of stems that I could not bite through. Oh and the mash was indelible and an unusually darker colour. Yes a disaster But the drinks and waiting staff were nice.

Absolutely love it here, been going for years! My family love it here so much as well. The area Is always clean and the staff are amazing and helpful. Especially emma always so polite and friendly. Would definitely recommend! :)

Impressed, first time visit, friendly, helpful staff. Car park full, had to wait for a party to leave. Tried to book for a party, by phone but was unable to speak to anybody.

It does not open at 11am as advertised. We arrived, walked in, at 11 and were confronted as to why we were there. It opens at 11.30 and they were aware the website was wrong. We had a warm coffee to start and a cold all day breakfast. We were left alone which was nice. Has a lovely relaxed atmosphere.

A lovely range of food at the Carvery.

An early evening midweek carvery meal for two and three drinks for under £35 does, on the face of it, represent fairly good value. However, slow service at the bar and a quickly diminishing meat offering, tired vegetable selection and watery, relatively tasteless gravy puts it more into perspective. To be fair the turkey and ham were quite good as were the parsnips; the rest of the meal was mediocre at best. Update: Replied to the owner as requested on 15th January 2024. I still have not had a response almost three months later!

Bleddy gorgeous carvery in the heart of the west country. Classic ambience and a playlist to die for. I ate up the roast and drank a drink so I could wash down the delicious potato beef gammon turkey Yorkshire peas gravy sprouts carrots cabbage parsnips and horse sauce. If you are in the area for a delicious and taste friendly meal I would even begin to recommend this establishment for its food and precisely it's food. Enjoy yourself and begin to have a wonderful day with the pub and carvery meal in the heart of the west country.

The staff make this place!! It was a really busy day for them being Easter Sunday and you could tell they were up against it but it didn’t stop them from doing an amazing job. The staff really do make this establishment.

Great food at great price! We had carvery and could only manage shared deserts! Bit of a slow queue to order but well worth it. Nice touch to find a quiet place for our group as I am hard of hearing. And lovely setting with period beams.

This pub was great many many years ago but I've always avoided it over the past few years as it went significantly down hill. Fabulous to see it is back to its former glory. Had a carvery yesterday for a very reasonable price, the food was fantastic, the decor lovely and the staff were attentive, friendly and provided great service. Will definitely be back for many future visits!

We ordered the carvery for me and vegetarian for my wife she had the very potato and cheese pie we had eaten our meals before the pie came out not very good at all if you're vegetarian stick to the veg only

Amazing mothers day visit. Very busy but served quick and food was amazing.

First time visiting, was disappointed that no tvs had shrek the third on, but I shan't make this an issue. Shout out to Thomas, had a lovely chat about mushrooms and the hospitality industry. What an absolute gent, asset to the business and for him alone I shall be revisiting since not much places in the area give good service. Thank you Thomas (Ryan) see you again hopefully on our next visit, the chicken wings are to die for too :)

Management and team are so so lovely. The food was amazing and we only waited a short time even though it was very busy. The drinks came quickly and the restaurant was clean and tidy. I was really impressed and cannot wait to come again soon!

Had a few drinks this evening, an old lady was very rude I think she was having a sheriod or something?! The frog dies in Shrek 3 :( But cannot fault Thomas for his service, we had some issues and he did very well to turn it around. We will definitely be coming back again, he made our evening much better! :)

We had visited the star Oct '23 when we felt it was a bit 'tired'. We have had a lovely surprise when visiting again today to find it has been fully refurbished. My husband and I had a carvery meal which was superb plus nice and hot. The staff were friendly and accommodating. Plenty of seating as it is a large place but keeps a cosy feeling. With a drink each we spent £23 which we felt was very reasonable and good value for money. We are here to eat as it is near to Bristol Airport where we are headed. We will certainly return. Thanks for a perfect lunch! 👌

We called in to The Star Pub and Carvery - operated by Greene King - on Rhodygate Hill, Congresbury. It's conveniently situated right on the A370 and has a large customer car park, including an EV charging point. It was quite busy, nonetheless, we were able to secure a table at lunchtime without difficulty. The carvery was popular and it must be said, good value for money. The pub is large and has benefited from a recent makeover.

Great food and friendly .. 10/10

Rubbish experience at this pub, booked weeks in advance, turned up way before our slot and couldn't get parked took forever. Once finally parked, was greeted with a rather rude women trying to tell us we hadn't booked even though she had already sat half our table. Pub was heaving, we was cramped in against a wall as a table of 12, we all ordered at the same time, but after 4 meals came out we waited after 40 minutes before the rest came out, when the food did finally appear it was stone cold and inedible, we sent it back by this time we had been in the pub for well over 2 hours and 3 of our table hadn't eaten so we decided to leave. We wasn't checked on once neither plates, glasses cleared. They did refund 2 of out meals which was kind. Unfortunately it wasn't just us and at least 3 tables around us had problems and had to send food back. Most of the waiters/waitresses are lovely but shame there manager was shouting at them in the returant about bringing cold food out, hardly there fault more the kitchen. We sadly won't be returning, which is such a shame as we had high hopes being as my husband is an ex greene king area manager. I think you would be better off doing carvery or mains meals not both as it clearly isn't working.

Sadly we find this place has not improved after the refit. We book for 12noon, otherwise the car park is full. After waiting several minutes at the carvery, and then only because someone saw the queue and went to the kitchen, a lad arrived to serve, looking thoroughly fed up. Admittedly the beef was lovely, I had two thick slices of pink meat, but it and the vegetables were just lukewarm. As for the gravy, it had the consistency of wallpaper paste. I like it thick but this was beyond it. I left some food on my plate because it had gone stone cold. It all could been much better had the food been hot.

Food was absolutely fabulous! Really hot and fresh. The staff were incredibly helpful and welcoming. They couldn’t do enough for us! Can’t wait to come again soon.

Ended up seating in the car for over 20 min as there was not enough parking. The place was very busy which effected the quality of service. The food was average. With that being said , the bar service was prompt and friendly. The prices are very acceptable.
