Cute little pub. Great atmosphere good value. Clean.

The carvery was excellent value, but let down by undercooked vegetables & no mashed potatoes!

Brilliant food and great service

Popped in here for food on my way to Bristol airport it's roughly 10-20 mins from the Airport traffic depending obviously. The pub it's self is really nice and tastefully decorated, the staff couldn't have been anymore helpful. The food was delicious I got wings as a starter they were lovely. As a main I went with fish and chips medium and that was plenty one of the members of the travelling party got the large fish and chips it was massive. (See photo) it was absolutely beautiful the batter was so crispy and light I'd highly recommended it, we visited of a Monday and it was starting to get busy around 4.30pm for the carvery.

This was our first time there and Luke was looking after us he was really lovely and made our visit more enjoyable and we are all in our 70 so this was great

Everything about the pub is great the carvery and the service was really good, especially Luke who went above and beyond to make sure my friends and I were looked after

Really disappointed with this place. Booked a table for our anniversary meal which we arrived for at 8pm on Sunday ordered our main course but after we'd finished we went to order our desserts only to be told we couldn't because the kitchen was closed. Nobody came over to give us notice (we were there with one other couple) we had limited time. May I suggest u don't take bookings for this time if u aren't going to allow them to order what they want. Left feeling very disappointed as we'd looked forward to this meal out together.

Just returned from a carvery with the in-laws who we recommend from our previous experience with this pub. So disappointed and a little embarrassed at having raved about the food to our guests. This time however we did not enjoy our meal half as much as our first. Unfortunately most of the veg was cold and the beef we had was either tough or too full of gristle that it was inedible. I did relay our disappointment to one of the waitresses and she said she would pass on our complaint to the kitchen staff. I have to point out through all my moaning that the staff were friendly enough and the Christmas lights and decorations were lovely.

Lovely carvery, best around by far, and very reasonably priced, only would say Sundays are really busy and car park is stacked, but well worth it!!

Friendly staff with quick service and a calm environment even let us in early when our booking wasn't foe another half hour.

Meat was OK. Veg hard and tasted weird. Cauliflower cheese tasted of plastic. Stuffing not even been mixed. Carvery man seemed grumpy. Gravy was OK. Fairly expensive but let down by the veg and tbh no peas??? Had to ask for them and they were microwaved

Younger friends brought me for a Sunday carvery. It was last century that I was last at the Star.. The meal was as enjoyable as I remember it was in the old days . Thank you for making me so.hsppy.

Sunday lunch is VERY BUSY but actually went well for a family get together.. book a time to go early! Weekdays may be better. Food was very good. Not waitress service either altho plenty of helpful staff.

We were seated quickly when we arrived. The food was great as always. Plenty of choice of vegetables and the gravy was spot on. Great afternoon . We will be back

Excellent Service from our waiter and all the staff. Food plentiful. Sadly just almost too busy. Perhaps giving people a time slot to go up to the carvery would help the Chefs.

Prices were good but the food was disappointing and there weren't many staff. My mum had been the week before and raved about it, but when we went a week later, most of the veg was overdone (soggy broccoli and cauliflower, chewy leeks) with apparently a lot less choice. The meat however was cooked wonderfully.

It took an hour for our main courses to arrive, and when it did it was rather underwhelming. The chicken burger was rock solid and the bread was quite frankly inedible. The garlic bread was burned. The curry and chicken parm were actually quite nice. The chips were stone cold when they arrived. I quite got the feeling that the staff working this shift did not want to be there. There was non existent customer service, and while we waited an hour for our food, the staff began to ride the rubbish cart around the restaurant. In fairness, the prices were rather good. However, we were treated as if we were a burden on the staff. I For one will not be coming back to this location any time soon. This is majorly disappointing as under the previous ownership the food and service was exceptional. If I could rate it 0 stars I would.

Visited on the 26th October, will never step foot in this absolute shower of a hole again, service was absolutely rubbish. Food: god knows what it's like it didn't even come out, manager was very apologetic and very professional ( well done to him ) But I'm afraid to say 1 of the worst eating out experience I've ever had, shame: it was always a really good place to eat at, something has gone terribly wrong.

Stopped off due to heavy traffic on A 370.Hadn’t booked, but not a problem. Very friendly welcome. Had the Carvery, excellent value for money.

Busy on a Sunday, the atmosphere is nice. I only went out for a drink. Next time I have food there I will review again. The pub now has extra parking, but it's still incredible busy on a Sunday.

Have eaten here several times and this was the second carvery. The meats are very good and portion size is great (medium or large) side of roast veg, potatoes etc is great and refilled before it runs short. Great value in a very nice setting and very helpful staff.

This was my first visit to Greene King for a carvery. The service was quick and efficient. Their weekday prices are very reasonable. The food was good. Some of the veggies were a little undercooked for my taste, but I know that a lot of people prefer them the way they were served. I'll definitely come here again

Absolutely cracking today, had 4 carvery’s, an adults burger meal and a kids meal inc drinks for circa £60 !!! Good quality, fast service. Definitely coming back again, well done The Star!!

Finally, a carvery that doesn't taste like things were made the day before and is more like freshly out the oven and carved. Sublime, drink choices are amazing and the staff are delightful.

How do I start this off… there is only one word for this restaurant. Amazing. Me and my wife went here and to say we were pleased was an understatement. I had the beyond meat burger with my wife having a chicken Kiev burger. We were both pleased with the customer service when we went on a Saturday a young boy who went above and beyond for us. We will be making a return to this pub as it was simply perfect. I really recommend here for some good food for a fair price

Yet another good Carvery at this fantastic pub, we live in Bath and come here at least once a month, fantastic atmosphere, friendly staff always greeted with friendly face. Highly recommended.

Best Carvery around, as a vegetarian I love the fact there is a veggie pie option, which is enormous and delicious. Fresh veg with lots of choice, the mash is wonderfully seasoned. Always well cooked and with a lovely refurbishment and cheery atmosphere. Staff are attentive and great.

The food is out standing, great service and staff restaurant is always clear and tidy.

Haven't been there for a while because of a few people telling me that they hadn't had a very good meal there. The night we visited because of staff issues they were only again carvery which was the poor review that we had heard of. It was very busy and we had a very tasty and enjoyable meal, so we will be going again . Had a great meal again, very tasty and filling. A superb pint of Haze to wash it down.

Great little find taking a break from a 5 hour traffic jam due to M5 closure. The silver lining to the day for sure. Great carvery selection, with lots of self serve veggies. The medium option was plenty! We will definitely come again - hopefully with less of a traffic issue. Thanks!

Went here for my dad's 80th. We were a large group but had booked . 5 of us picked the carvery and had to wait in the queue for half an hour while they cooked more veg. By the time we got there all 3 of the roast meats had ran out. We were offered pigs in blankets instead! They did bring out some chicken breasts. However they were tiny and completely overcooked. The roast potatoes were anaemic and the staff were just generally overwhelmed . The staff were lovely just very chaotic and not what you want when you're coming for a planned meal.

Dinner today was lovely, roast dinners are my fave! The staff are so nice and caring! Can't wait to come again!

We've had a few family meals here and they have all been great. We tend to have a mix of carvery and main menu meals and all are fresh and well cooked.

We called in to The Star Pub and Carvery - operated by Greene King - on Rhodygate Hill, Congresbury. It's conveniently situated right on the A370 and has a large customer car park, including an EV charging point. It was quite busy, nonetheless, we were able to secure a table at lunchtime without difficulty. The carvery was popular and it must be said, good value for money. The pub is large and has benefited from a recent makeover.

A group of between 10-20 meet up every 3 months. The food is always good both carvery and menu. Staff are very pleasant. Booked for 2 separate groups for Christmas.

Staff were attentive and accomodating, even when seven of us showed up at the door later in the day. Staff were nothing but nice the entire time and the food was wonderful.

CARVERY great price.!Great selection vegetables BUT sprouts & broccoli only Blanched so undigestible for me!! I felt this spoilt the lovely meat parsnips roast potatoe carrots & other accompaniments Being served!!

After a friend suggested using this pub as they accepted the Blue light card, we ate our meal, and when it came to pay, the First Lady, said she wasn’t sure, how to do it, to have another lady come over to say, she will have to ask the Manager, for her to come back and say they have never taken this card!!!! Said to the lady a friend used it not so long ago, she said shrugged her shoulders. Before booking our I doubled checked to ensure this green king pub was on the blue card list…and it was…..very disappointed and won’t return

Food was great I had off the menu and my wife had the carvery which was also very good hot and fresh. Very good value for money. Staff were also very nice and helpful. Would definitely visit again.

I really think you need to update your menu on your website .because the prices you are offering ..on your website menu .is most definitely not the correct prices on visiting the premises . I visit once a month with my dad .. we nearly always both have the carvery .. which is lovely .. by the way .. the only criticism is that we arrive for midday ... And all though we can pile up on all vegetables and potatoes etc . The meat .is very very sparring... Whether you are being cautious because it's only just midday .I do not know .... But . I feel seeing the prices have increased quite significantly . The least you can do is offer a good supply of meat .whatever time you arrive . Other than that . We enjoy our meal .

Went back for two free meals due to the standard of food there back in July and for the fact it took a month to get my refund! Sadly the food was just as rubbish. Hot/cold chips, some cooked, some not, cold peas, steaks that were in edible, etc etc. the only plus point I can make is that the chef did a pretty good job of zig zagging the sauce under my desert across the plate. Which lets be honest a 5 year old could do. Won't be going back again.

Today was our first bad experience! We love the star!! The host booking in table is in the way to close to the door. as a result whilst we were waiting for our host, we had to constantly keep moving out of the way of people leaving and entering. Very awkward especially with children We were told on arrival the oven broke. I get that this is out of your control, but considering when I book my number is provided I would expect a phone call to tell us there carvery was closed. Had this been the case we would have cancelled!!! We decided to order off the main menu. Mains came out in good time. Nicely cooked! On 2 meals the crispy chicken was missing i had to ask for it. Then after asking for my daughters dessert we waited over 20mins. Then we had a CAT under our feet. Was told its the managers!!! staff promptly picked it up. Unacceptable to have animal in a restaurant setting. Trouble is now the car park is done the fire exit is in constant use and I found myself and others taking it in turn to close. I feel we should have been offered complimentary drinks. Very disappointed today sadly.

Food was as expected for the price but unfortunately the service was diabolical! .we had booked a a table so we stood by the desk waiting to be told where our table was , seemed plenty of staff but nobody acknowledged us so had to approach a member of staff . He couldn’t find our booking and told us to sit where we wanted anywhere. 2 other members of our party had arrived before us so unknown to us were sat on another table ! This was about 15 minutes until I went to the bar and they also at the bar . They had ordered coffee and had to return as it was cold . Stood at the bar I was the only one there 3 members of staff doing things in the bar but never acknowledged me until I asked to be served!! Starters were cleared away, but that was the last we saw of anybody table wasn’t cleared of empty glasses bottles etc . No excuse for this as it wasn’t busy at all, nobody seem to be in charge. Won’t be going there again been to other Green kings I’ve never had this problem before always greeted at the door or at least somebody speaks to you and ask if they can help you..

We stopped here as we spotted kids eat free at the weekend. We had the carvery, which was not gastropub level, but was fine. Three small plates and a medium for £20.48! Bearing in mind kids ate free. £15 more for drinks. Staff were lovely. Pub and toilets were clean. Would definitely come back.

Ordered two meals on Monday evening table 34 in both cases the fried chicken was overcooked the chips were warm at best and the service was poor. We had to ask for our drinks which hadn’t come either. At no point were we asked if the food was ok and ended up leaving the table with very little of the meals eaten - very disappointed we won’t be back

Lovely food slightly overcooked chicken and bit basic food presentation no garnish or any attempt to make the food more presentable.. Food server didn't ask if we needed anything extra like sauces just plonked the food down and was gone! Very dull quiet atmosphere could have had some music playing in the background perhaps? Pub its self clean n tidy

Lovely pub with great staff. I had the All Day Big Breakfast which was excellent and great value.

The staff were wonderful and the place is clean and inviting. The food was average pub grub but I think people like the carvery, we didn’t try it but it looked tasty. The sticky toffee pudding was the worst we have ever had unfortunately. But they have Madri on tap so that made up for it.

Still waiting for a refund on food we sent back over 3 wks ago now. Don't answer the phone, don't reply to answering machine. Shocking. Hoping they might see this and actually contact me.

Went for a carvery with the family this was our second time here the food was amazing could only manage a standard size meal as the large was way to big for me. Good service attentive helpful staff will definitely go here again

we come here nearly every thursday & just love the place however as usual we book our chosen table but today another couple had ignored the reservation notice & ovcupied the table how can some people be so rude & igorant we found another table but felt cheated

As a carvery goes, it's OK. Nothing special. The outside seating area all had ashtrays, when the law states there should be a designated smoking area.

Came in Saturday with a booking of four. Upon arrival, a polite gentleman took me to my table. I ordered a steak fondue, the meat was a little underdone however the food wasn’t cold or bland and quite tasty. We had a wonderful experience talking with a polite young lady with a name I cannot spell unfortunately, who cared to ask about the quality of my food and continued to help us despite us as customers being quite demanding. Another staff member who I couldn’t catch the name of, was very well mannered. We were however waiting at the bar for a while, but the man then saw to us quickly. Overall a positive experience with costumer service and food, my family would agree to come again.
