Really good service when it was given but once we got our food the staff vanished, so no more drinks, plates cleared or table service was offered . No it wasn’t busy Good Sunday roast but you could tell much of the food was pre-plated due to soggy bottoms! Could be excellent but missed the mark

Visited in evening loverly place very welcoming when arrived cocktails are great was such a disappointment with the food real let down The burger my partner ordered was cold in middle 2 people ordered pie of the week we was told it was chicken leak bacon it was chicken and mushroom luckily I like both but it just wasn't hot a real disappointment cause it was really nice food. Place was quiet in general yet felt ignored when it came to ordering drinks and trying to pay at the end. Overall for the money charged for the food it's a real let down it was not hot when served its not like it's just a cheap crappy pub it's a nice place and the foods nice the cocktails are great but there's issues with service and temp.

Very nice meal out with the family tonight. Excellent service from Tyler in particular and the other staff who looked after us. Been here many times and never had a bad meal or overall experience. Edited on 13 October when I remembered the top member of staff who looked after us was Tyler, not Dylan! 🤦‍♂️

amazing and helpful team there, the rooms were great and bed was comfortable and a nice bathroom, and the food was honestly some of the best I've had!! it's rare to fine veggie options and breakfasts that are so good! definitely recommend :)

Had a meal here last night with friends. The staff were generally very helpful and the food was very good. We were very late due to the terrible traffic but they were very accommodating. My only negative was the guy behind the bar who could have been a little more friendly and smiley! Would return.

Visited the rising sun this evening for a meal with some friends. Upon arrival the staff were very friendly creating a welcoming atmosphere from the get go. The general manager mark gave exceptional service from the moment we arrived to the moment we left! Wide variety of dishes on the menu including daily specials so there is definitely something to please everyone. Mark was tentative and took the time to give recommendations of dishes such as the pie of the week which did not disappoint, was absolutely delicious..the kitchen staff clearly take pride in the food they serve! Couldn’t fault our evening here at all, already planning our next visit..highly recommend it to anyone considering visiting! Overall a 10/10 experience

My friends and I had a wonderful dinner here this evening as served by lovely staff and greeted by their brilliant manager Mark. He went above and beyond to make sure that everything was brilliant. Will most definitely be coming again! food was spectacular xx

Great room , fresh coffee and cookies was a great addition on arrival . Bathroom was a little small but served the purpose . We did hear classical music playing all night and thought maybe the music may have been left on below in the pub as it closed early on a Sunday . Dinner slightly overpriced for a Sunday roast but menu was limited on a Sunday night .. however was enjoyable !! The highlight of the stay was the full English breakfast , amazing ! Must commend Harriet who is a great member of the team . Will definitely stay there and recommend when flying from bristol again .

It is an ideal pub to go with family or friends. The letter is short but exceptional. In terms of price and quality, it is the best. If you're traveling to Bristol, it's a great place to enjoy a good English breakfast.

Stayed on the 11th September for one night. Lovely accommodation very good standard. Big shout out to Fleur, Harvey and Tyler who were excellent asset to your company.

Super find, great character, good welcome, lovely room, nice food (always is at Butcombe pubs we've stayed at) and we would return. However, we were disappointed with the length of time we had to wait for our main course in the evening of our stay - it was Monday 9/9 & not busy. The rest outweighed that so we shall give it another go sometime👍

The rising sun is a perfect place to stay prior to flying from Bristol airport. It’s an olde pub but great atmosphere and the staff are young and couldn’t do enough for you. The food was second to none for dinner we had the lamb and apple pie to be honest I’d go back just for that. The breakfast was plenty of choice and well cooked. So why do you ask the 4* it was the room it would have made a perfect superior single room it was very clean no fault there but for two people a little small and only enough room for one chair so if you wanted an early night one of you would have to sit in the bed. A 5* is a perfect score with no fault at all hence the 4* grading Would I go back definitely a yes

Excellant pub. Room was clean and comfortable, food was fabulous and service friendly and helpful. The location was perfect for the airport, a pleasant 10 minute drive with no traffic even at 8.30am. We will definitely use again.

Stayed for a night pre our morning flight. Staff couldn’t have been more helpful including very kindly making us breakfast earlier than normal. Dinner was great and the room comfortable. Will definitely stay again when flying early.

Stayed here to visit the Balloon Fiesta - excellent location, staff were very welcoming and room very comfortable. Dogs were equally welcomed with no extra charge - a rarity these days!!

disappointed with lunch. My lunch, I couldn't eat even though the first word on the menu was Hot which it certainly wasn't. The trout I expected to be warm but it was as cool as the salad as you would expect, but the boiled potatoes were freezing cold when you put them to your lips as was the green beans. My partners child's roast was ok but noted that the plate was cold. This is one of the biggest mistakes made by most restaurants. Serving hot meals on cold plates. The pudding Sticky date brownie was absolutely the best thing on the menu, and when the waitress asked if we wanted Clotted cream or Ice Cream even better we both chose Clotted cream. ( Guess what we got you've got it Ice cream !!!

So after 22 years, 2 children and a mortgage! We decided to get married 💐💍🥂 We decided on a small wedding (24 of us in total) and having eaten in the Rising Sun many times thought it would be a great place for our reception. And they did not disappoint 👌.. We had the most fantastic afternoon, the food was exceptional, the service was absolutely brilliant, the atmosphere was spot on and family members who had travelled and were staying for a couple of nights, told me how great the rooms and food was for them. The younger family members loved the outdoor play area and their parents appreciated it too! Their attention to detail and willingness to go the extra mile, like cutting the cake for guests, was much appreciated. Huge thanks to the Rising Sun for making our wedding day so special and enjoyable. 👏♥️

Called in midweek on an evening . Had the dog so we sat in the beer garden . Very pleasant atmosphere and the beer was nice .

Booked Sunday lunch 1.30pm for 3 people waited over an hour tepid when arrived ordered chicken did not state on menu what chicken recieved a chicken leg very disappointed not what we expected for £18 took it home for the dog if your going to charge clifton prices you need to up your game thank you for 1 complimentary drink for waiting so long and water for the table needs to chilled when eventually we got some .

Arrived at the rising sun where nithing was to much trouble they arrange the taxi for is to airport. Rooms were beautiful and clean and food outstanding we are going on holidays in october and have booked to go back

Four ladies visited The Rising Sun for lunch yesterday. We sat in the garden as the weather was so nice. The food was delicious and the staff were lovely. However there was not much flexibility with regards to the service. We asked if we could order sandwiches but were told no, they were on the brunch menu which was only served until late morning. That was fair enough but as there was only one other table occupied we felt they could have made a few sandwiches but apparently not. We then asked if we could leave a credit card behind the bar and run up a tab. That wasn't acceptable- we had to pay as we went along, so one payment for drinks, then a second for food and a third for coffee, then we had to work out who owed who what afterwards. I realise Dine and Dash is an issue but as I say, we offered to leave a credit card with the staff. We did enjoy our lunch, and the staff were very nice, but felt customer service was lacking

This is a lovely place. The service from the staff was super friendly and helpful. The tables were clean and the pizza oven in the beer garden was a nice surprise. We ordered 2 Pizzas and they arrived piping hot and tasty. We will definitely be returning here again in the future.

Lovely service from the team at this gem of a pub. Stopped here for dinner and for those who have never been when you enter the pub, the restaurant is to the right. We really enjoyed our food, I had a delicious burger, and the missus ordered the aubergine curry with chick peas which she also really enjoyed. Highly recommend this restaurant of you are in the area, and hope to return when we are back in the area

We were greeted by a lovely young lady and shown to our rooms. Our room was large and very comfortable with coffee making facilities, a small jar of biscuits and a very comfortable bed. We had a nice dinner and breakfast and overall found the hotel to be well located, well priced and deserving of 4 stars.

We have stayed here a few times and every time it is great. The rooms are very clean and decorated tastefully. Staff are great, even when busy were on the ball serving customers quickly with their great food. Always stay here when we visit family in Bristol

We eat here regularly. Good adult and children's menu. Excellent location and easy to find. We are always met with a warm welcome and staff willing to please. Nothing is too much trouble. It is ideal for adults, children and even the family dog, with a great garden at the rear. There is a pub quiz once a month along with live music once a month. Would highly recommend it.

Super dog friendly pub with a great beer garden, food and rooms. We stayed for a night after working in the area and the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. The room was lovely with great little touches for a comfortable stay.

The Room was fantastic. Could not fault anything. Really enjoyed the food and the service was really good staff were friendly. Will definitely be coming back to stay I would highly recommend to anyone as we were meeting some friends in Cheddar Gorge with it being around 25minutes away was a perfect location for us. Jamie.

We stopped at The Rising Sun yesterday afternoon (Bank Holiday Monday) on our way home from The Mendip Activity Centre. We hadn’t booked and there were 4 of us, plus our small blind dog. The staff were brilliant, despite it having been a busy day for them. They were friendly and helpful, the menu was more than we expected in terms of sophistication and the food was excellent! My Dad loved his steak, my 13 year old son polished off a huge fish and chips and my brother had a burger which he said was really good. I had chicken and chips from the kids menu because I was saving myself for pudding….it was no chicken nuggets…it was tender chicken breast strips in breadcrumbs, so nice to have proper food for children! The puddings were amazing too! My Dad and I had the lotus Biscoff donuts (sooooo good!) and my son had the after eight ice cream! Would really recommend this place, the decor is lovely too! Hope to return soon, thank you!

Went to the rising Sun Backwell with my husband and son and his partner to celebrate my birthday. I am a coeliac and the manager couldn't do enough to make sure that I was making the right choices from the varied menu. Excellent food, friendly staff and a love atmosphere. Would definitely recommend and look forward another visit soon.

Stayed midweek for just the one night. Lovely room, decorated well. Good section of drink sachets etc. Had our evening meal there which was very good. Tasty breakfast the following morning too.

We decided to give it another go here after a few disappointing experiences food wise since it changed hands. We used to eat here regularly and really rated it but put the bad meals down to teething problems. Came on a Sunday, staff friendly etc not too long a wait for the roasts to come out but I'm sorry to Sunday they were not hot . The only hot thing was the meat. The rest was tepid as though it had been sat on the pass. We could of sent it back but everyone was so hungry they just ate it. Now I can overlook that in a low end pub but when you're charging clifton prices for a roast it really needs to be on point and come out hot. There is also an issue amongst a couple of the more junior staff acting in appropriately behind the bar, whilst customers are waiting and some inappropriate comments overheard whilst serving us. Again not the end of the world but lowers the tone a little bit. Perfectly good for afternoon drinks I. The garden with kids as they have a lovely play area and lots of benches, when it's sunny its a great spot.

6 of us came for a leaving meal. As soon as we walked through the door through to when we left we had great service! Everyone really enjoyed their food. Would highly recommend.

Finding a decent pub in this part of Somerset is difficult, fortunately there is this one

2 nights, 2 breakfast mistakes. The first morning, the Shakshuka was forgotten, so we accepted smoked salmon and scrambled eggs instead, which ended up as poached eggs. Asked four times for marmalade. The second day, Shakshuka was excellent, but the avocado on toast was hard and chopped rather than soft and smashed, mushroom like cardboard. We were sorry because we so wanted to love this place

Apart from noise coming from opposite side to room 2 everything was great.

Pub is looking good after it's recent makeover, fireplace looks nice, but lacking real fire or woodburner, probably will not visit in the winter as it was cold! Could do with a log burner being fitted to make it nice and cosy!

The family and I visit The Rising Sun about once a month on average for a meal as it is a couple of miles down the road. The reason we go back isn't so much the deals and offers, but more because of the quality of the food, the great selection of drinks, the location and also the quality of service. We are always made to feel very welcome and the fact the beer selection is spot on is just a bonus. There is always a deal to be had and I'd be lying if I said we don't often make use of them, but don't think that the portions sizes take a hit as a result, as they dont. We will be back.... often!

The food here is always of a very high standard, but the valentines special we had last night was something really special. Out of this world!!

My wife and I had lunch at the Rising Sun Backwell on 14/01/24 with 2 friends. It was very busy but nevertheless we were served quickly. 3 ordered the roast and 1 the roast mushroom wellington. The portions were very large and 3 would have preferred the option of a smaller portion. However the food was properly cooked and very nice. Unfortunately we were all too full to have dessert. It was a very enjoyable visit.

Stayed NYE as attending a party nearby, the staff were warm and welcoming, the bedroom spacious and clean, we had a quick meal and the burger was very good and portions generous. We were running late for the party and struggled to get a cab, Simon went above and beyond to make sure we got to our party on time! The breakfast was lovely. First time visiting Bristol but we will definitely be back, this pub is a real gem with great decor

Xmas day ruined took over 3 hours to get main course appalling...speechless, felt sorry for waiting staff getting abuse One woman left with her family in tears Will not be rushing back!!

Xmas meal and overnight stay with breakfast before flying from Bristol Airport. OUTSTANDING from the minute we arrived to the minute we left. Staff were simply wonderful. Festive meal was beautifully cooked and worth every penny. Thanks to everyone. This will now be a regular staying point before flights which are only 10 mins away.

Food was tasty and good size. Swede mash was a bit watery. Not sure about the mandatory 10% service charge especially on drinks we collected at the bar. Butcombe Gold was lovely

Accommodation very clean and comfortable, the staff were very friendly, service was exceptional. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was superb. Looking forward to my next visit.

Great beer, especially the Goram IPA 0% on draft. Fishcakes were delicious, decor and ambience perfect for a good meet up with friends, staff very friendly, food could have been served a bit quicker but we weren't in a rush.

What a lovely place to visit. Brilliant staff, Sarah and Molly, are genuinely nice people with great customer service and baraista skills. The food here is amazing. The garden is great for the kids with a big play area for the kids. Disability serves available and will cater to your needs. I will return and advise you to do so also.

Rooms and location are wonderful! Check in was easy and the gentleman that checked us is (assuming it was the manager) is very helpful and kind. Sunday roast was served bearly warm and dry, I'm sure it would have been lovely fresh. The breakfast took 45 minutes to come out after having to ask for it and then it had been sat on the pass for so long the bacon could be used to drum a tune on the plate. The poor server had to tell us that the hash browns still weren't ready and he would bring them out when they were done. The chef (who came out into the dining room to cough up a lung) had obviously not put the fryers on ready for service and the hash browns came out inedible with raw frozen potato inside and swimming in a pool of its own oil. Probably just bring a packed lunch next time.
