The Stackyard in Sunderland

Just a quick thank you to the staff and chef, this was our first visit for many many years. Family occasion, five adults and a three year old. The waiting staff were very attentive and pleasant, everybody’s meals arrived piping hot, generous portion and very well cooked. Everybody thoroughly enjoyed their meal (starters and mains and a couple desserts too). We will definitly go back, highly recommended.

Visited with a friend for a post work catch up. The food was really tasty, I had the mince and dumplings and they got the scampi. We were both impressed, all home cooked, decent portion sizes and well priced. Overall a lush little visit 😊

Came here for an Xmas fayre menu. £25 for 3 courses unbelievable. Everything was cock on. Food, staff, drink, price, and to top it off a live singer in corner great place.

Has the Stackyard been taken over 🤔 The guy who seemed to be in charge spent his time engaging (selfies, really) with three different tables who he was very familiar with, not experienced this in there before. Staff seemed to be in hyperdrive, we were asked three times if the food we had just been served was okay. It appeared as if they had been told to constantly look busy, and were too quick to clear the plates away. We excused this because they were young and doing as they were told, but it’s no way to develop staff. Typically of Sunderland, they can’t make a cappuccino, I was served a small latte that tasted of nothing but heated milk. My friend and I had the chicken breast, with roasted carrots, broccoli and new potatoes, unfortunately, the gravy was made from gravy granules, why, we both thought it was mediocre. Hopefully when/if we return, things will have settled and will be more relaxed and hopefully they’ll have disposed of the gravy granules.

We used to drink her over 40 years ago and it was a must do on our trip to the UK from NZ, it did not disappoint! A trip down memory lane with Panackalty and a new experience with Hanging Kebabs. We were welcomed with open arms and would recommend a visit whether you’re local or a visitor. We had a long chat with the landlady Katrina who gave her time generously as we reminisced about the past. We returned on Christmas Eve and were greeted by Lee and Katrina and welcomed into their group for a few drinks and a great catch-up of what has been happening in the area etc. We cannot recommend the Stackyard highly enough and it really would be our local if it were not more than 10,000 miles away.

Went today for our Anniversary meal. Had starters.main and desserts!! All yummy. Mains were lasagne snd belly pork. Both awesome. All staff were very friendly-Morgan was very attentative and helpful. Will definately go again.

Fabulous lunch today. Mixed grill was beautiful and cooked to perfection. Halloumi wrap with salad and potatoe skins was really tasty with sweet chilli. Staff very friendly and helpful. Definitely worth a visit

Had a lovely lunch time meal yesterday 31October. We booked which we were pleased we did as it was rather busy. The meal took awhile to come but was not bothered as it was worth the wait. My husband got the hunters chicken which he has had before again he said it was lovely I got the Hot beef sandwich it was lovely and the cup of gravy was a great touch. Wish I took photos off these.We will defo return and recommend.Also staff very friendly.

I absolutely love this bar. Down to earth friendly staff & customers. Nothing pretentious about this wonderful establishment, tastefully decorated restaurant area and the food is out of this world, especially the blue cheese sauce! A regular for life now 👌

Dog tolerant pub but not dog friendly. We were put in small bar because we had a friendly Labrador in our group. We also had a well behaved 7 year old child in our party. Evening ruined by foulmouthed customers shouting at full volume. Bar seemingly doubles as a social services creche where 'mothers' can have a drink and a good shout while their kids wander around the bar. We complained and were offered free drinks. We declined : couldn't wait to leave. Long wait for food which was overage. So, Halloumi burger was good but I couldn't cut my vegetarian sausage with a knife! Family reunioned ruined.

Would just like to say how much we enjoyed the food here… delicious. The place had a lovely atmosphere and the service was fantastic. A big thank you to a young lady called Amy… makes a big difference when you have a friendly, smiley and happy member of staff👌

Good service, food was good. Parking is difficult. Lots of groups of women in having their lunch, regular trip out for them.

First I must say the service from the young waitress was 5 star, she was everything you could wish for however : 1, The table we sat at was disgusting it was extremely " Sticky/Tacky i.e. not cleaned properly, We felt uncomfortable putting our hand down on it. 2. The starter was really nice ( no Complaints) 3. Main course dish for my wife ( Panakity ) was covered with a thick burnt skin on top of an undercooked sausage mix, she left about half and complained to waitress who said she would talk with chef and get a reduction on the bill. 4. When bill came later on there was no reduction in bill and no apology. We will not be coming here again, as my wife has been paying frequent trips to the bathroom ever since... need i say more...

Booked for Fathers Day treat. We were 7 and were shown to a table in what was virtually a tent at the back of the building which at some time must have been used for a wedding. Uneven floor, sandbags keeping the walls from moving. Served drinks and informed there was only one choice of menu, Sunday lunch. After ordering we waited 50 mins for the food. When it finally come it was very poor. Very large, dried out, burnt Yorkshire puddings, watery overcooked veg. Meals looked very unappetizing on the plates. The only vegetarian option they could offer was pasta and a basic tomato sauce. We were told, unfortunately, they had a small kitchen and struggled with the large numbers of customers. I would suggest limiting the numbers of guests which would enable them to provide a better service and quality of food to those who book a table. Try more for quality instead of quantity. Staff were friendly and helpful and did their best under the circumstances.

Absolutely beautiful!! My husband and I visit this pub at least once a week, I can say hand on heart it’s probably the best food we’ve had! The staff are always excellent and efficient ( especially our favourite lass Cat). The chicken Kiev is amazing and my hubby had steak tonight which he’s not tried before, just superb. 🙏

Lovely friendly staff however, the chicken kiev had no garlic what so ever!. My partner had steak with peppercorn sauce which just tasted like vinegar, my daughter had carbonara which had no taste at all she didnt eat it. Me and my partner still ate ours as we were that hungry. Very disappointing tbh.

Lovely traditional pub food with lots of variety. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Parking is directly outside.

Me and my partner came for lunch with my mam , all had a starter which was lovely and a main ... lots of choice from the menu .. steaks we're cooked amazingly . And the prawns were huge and delicious ..atmosphere was brilliant and aimee and kat the staff were so polite and friendly will definitely be back again soon 100 percent amazing food xxx

Travelled up from The Midlands for the weekend and was recommended to try The Stackyard. The food was delicious and hands down the best surf and turf lovely welcoming pub staff were attentive and would definitely return next time we are up north

A friendly welcome and good service. Went here with family and we all enjoyed our food and the atmosphere. The menu has lots of choice and the chips were proper chips not those rubbish frozen ones. Would definitely recommend 😀

A wonderful place to stop for fresh, delicious food after a walk in nearby Herrington Country Park. The dog was welcomed and immediately offered water, table service for drinks and the staff couldn't be more helpful. The food was delicious- we had pizza this time...

Visited here for Sunday lunch with elderly parents, we were sat next to fire exit door into outside area ,the door was open more than closed a cold draft coming in constantly ,ate our meal with coats on people constantly walk past as was a main walk way and meals went cold straight away . To finish the meal off my dad passed out with the cold and not one member of staff came over to assist totally disgusted with this place . My partner and I visited today for Sunday lunch as a birthday treat for me. All Covid rules were in place and we did not feel unsafe. We were seated in the marquee which was spacious and had pleasant decor.We both had the prawn brushetta to start which was a good sized portion, nice and garlicky.The main courses were huge, beef for him and the cauliflower steak for me. Both served with plenty of piping hot vegetables, homemade roasties and Yorkshires with more veg served on the side. We have good appetites but didn't manage to finish it all. Two courses and a bottle of wine for under £40, which was definitely a fair price for the quality and quantity of food. Staff are all pleasant and helpful. We will be back for sure, possibly only opting for the small main course next time

Only thing decent was the food.Regulars in this pub are favoured so I wouldnt waste my time again!Staff were exceedingly rude one barmaid when asked for a round of drinks gutted and rolled her eyes! A couple of people on the table next to us were warned not to dance where they were sitting and then when entering the pub at the end of the night my mum and sister went outside and me and a friend to the toilet heard a staff member say very loudly.....why have them 2 gone straight out and the other 2 out the back. I was only going to your toilet.I would not reccomend this place and will never spend another penny! After Covid you would think a little effort would be made but not to strangers!

I have been to the stack yard many times without and issue. Then yesterday I went with my friends and children for food and a couple of drinks. We ordered porn star martinis which did not come with a shot of Prosecco I asked to speak to a manager about it and she came out with a terrible attitude telling me nowhere gives shots of Prosecco with a porn star martini which is obviously not true. When I told her it wasn’t true she told me I was barred and never to return which is totally unprofessional. Also I ordered the crispy belly pork which came out soggy not crispy at all so I sent it back. I waited 20 minutes before having to go back inside and ask how long it would be, in which time everyone I was with had finished their meals. To my surprise the CRISPY belly pork came back exactly the same but the had laid a piece of crackling on top of my soggy belly pork

Great service, arrived on time, food was hot and fresh. My partner and I both had burgers, and both found the meat and sauce excellent. Fries and chips were great too, enough to satisfy, not too many to feel overly full.Will definitely be returning, rother for takeaway or for dine in when possible.

Just want to Thank the Stackyard for our beautiful food tonight. My msm celebrates 70 wonderful years tomorrow and we most certainly would of celebrated at your pub with family and friends as we have done in the past but due to Covid we werent able to. You are an amazing team and your service is invaluable in these strange times. It meant we were able to have a lovely meal together which means a lot when it is a special occassion. Hoping it wont be too long before you are open and welcoming all your customers back to your fab pub. Stay Safe and Thankyou.

Well set up for Covid safety requirements. Friendly owner confirmed order which was then packaged up, piping hot. Very generous portion size and all the food was very well cooked. Gravy was served separately so the food didn't go soggy! Food still hot by the time we got it home - we will be back for more!

Had and amazing take away tonight. Food was just as nice as when eating in person. Ordered two garlic mushrooms for starter, lasagne, stackyard burger and a chicken burger. All the food was great but a special thank you for always catering for my allergy and making my meal dairy free! Will definitely be ordering again.

First time here since it has been refurbished. Greeting good, and details and temperature taken, seated in conservatory.Drinks and food order taken, then downhill from there.Huge group of men walking through conservatory into marquee, then constant stream of men too and from doors slamming with the wind, so that they could set up a tv in the marquee to watch to football.Pate starter, tasteless.Black pudding starter ok but bacon was thick and horrible.Main of thinly sliced steak sandwich and chips. Nothing thin about the steak and it was like shoe leather. Some of the chips uncooked in the middle.Main of chicken breast with blue cheese sauce and mash and veg. Chicken was slimy, mash was lumpy and dry, as for the blue cheese sauce, disgusting. It was just warm runny cream when I put my fork into the jug of sauce there was a congealed lump of something in the bottom, vile.Didn’t bother with desert.I did say all of this to the girl who served us and she did start to say she was gonna reduce the bill but I stopped her, paid the full bill and left.Wouldn’t go back and wouldn’t recommend.

Fantastic night at The Stackyard. Felt completely safe with COVID rules well adhered to and all staff well trained. Staff are brilliant, tapas food was fantastic and the bonus of some excellent live music. This is fast becoming a favourite place to visit and I am never ever disappointed. Had a great night in the Stackyard last night. Management controlled the customers in line with COVID rules without being invasive. All the staff were brilliant, well trained and customer focused. The new Tapas menu was a treat and the acoustic set was a nod towards normality without being a party.The ordering app was easy to use, only criticism is that you can’t tip the staff on it and we’re no longer carrying cash, for obvious reasons!Anyway brilliant place, staff, food and atmosphere. Well done Katrina & Mellisa.

meals , staff, service all great Wife had Hunters chicken, I had 10 oz ribeye steak, followed by deserts. This is the 3rd visit to the Stackyard Our opinion it is one of the best in the area.

Wow, the food everytime we've eaten here has been tasty. I would recommend anyone one to try here. They offer deliveries and takeaway. It's ideal and reasonably priced for a homemade meal.

Visited for a family meal and the staff accommodated us brilliantly, as a larger group we were separated to fit in accordance with social distancing, the Covid procedures are the best I've seen, with both staff and guests following guidance. Food was excellent as always.

The waitress with the moon boot was really friendly and efficient.Everything is really clean and well organised.The burger I ordered was really nice and my partner loved her steak pie and chips. We’d have liked to have sat in the conservatory, but unfortunately couldn’t due to a lot of bookings. So I would advise booking ahead.

Made a secod visit, once again Covid 19 monitoring very good, what is advertised is what takes place. The best venue we have visited since pub/resturants reopened that are doing these safety checks.Staff very welcoming and friendly and always happy to please.We found the menu that's available upto 3.00pm more suitable for the younger members of our party. All enjoyed another beautifull meal. Again all plates cleared.

My first visit to this lovely bar/restaurant and will not be the last. Decided to go to the Stackyard for a long awaited catch up with a friend i hadn't seen for months, and a great choice. Plenty to choose from on the menu, printing could have been larger though, excellent service, staff very friendly and efficient, good atmosphere and very good covid layout and checks.

We have just had a wonderful Sunday lunch, relaxing atmosphere with full table service, never had to leave our seats for anything. Food was freshly cooked and nice and hot and there was plenty of it too. Waiting staff were very friendly and nothing was too much for them. This is the way a pub should be ran since COVID, bookings, temperature checks and spotlessly clean. We have been coming here for years and will definitely book again.

Visited the stackyard with family and will definitely be back again! Food orders were taken promptly and food didn’t take long to come at all. Chicken Kiev was beautiful and even had the garlic separate to add to your own taste which I loved! All food was fresh and everyone enjoyed. Staff were lovely especially Melissa who served us throughout. All safety precautions were in place which made us feel very at ease with how well things were ran. Can’t wait to visit again!

Visited for lunch with a friend. The order was taken promptly but the food took ages to arrive, despite it not being very busy. A table that came in after us and ordered later were served their food before us, even though theirs weren't quick meals.Our desserts were then given to another table. The people accepted and ate them even though it was different food to what they'd ordered! They then got their correct food for free, being told it would be binned if they didn't eat it, so they ate the lot! We did get our desserts soon after that though. Aside from that, the main courses were very tasty, staff were pleasant and it's a nice place to sit in. Can't complain about the prices either. I would return in future.

Just had lunch. Food was lovely, service was great, couldn’t fault it. We were lucky to get a table as we were walk-ins. It was very busy as they were taking part in the help out to eat out scheme. They were very safety conscious with the covid 19 restrictions. They checked our temperature with a contactless thermometer before being seated. They have implemented a one way route through the restaurant and all the staff wore face coverings. We ordered mixed grill and a Parma burger, followed by sponge of the day (biscotti) and a banana split. All in all great service lovely food. We will return.

Ate at the Stackyard for the first time last night, and it didnt disappoint! My wife and I know friends who eat here regularly so we decided to give it a try for ourselves.The food was really good, well priced (even better on the 'eat out to help out' scheme!), and even on this deal they were doing the full menu. I can definitely recommend the Mixed grill, it was huge, and the chips were fantastic! I couldnt eat it all there was that much! My wife had the steak pie which was crammed full of meat, and really tasty.The service was of a really high standard, from start to finish. A big thank you to our waitress, Hannah, she was very pleasant, refilled our drinks without having to wait, and regularly asked if we needed anything else and if all was OK. A great credit to the Stackyard.Covid - this place is all over Covid measures from entering the building to leaving. Temperature checks on the way in, a one way system, gel stations well placed, everything was non contact which is exactly the way it should be at present, and taking our details on the way out in case of the need to contact us.Unfortunately they were so busy with bookings the following week (which is a testiment, not a complaint) that I couldnt get my mother in law booked in.However, this only means we will be along again and may even treat the mother in law to what we found was a very well priced, very good service, and great food establishment!Well done to Hannah all the team at the Stackyard! A very pleasant experience!

AMAZING, AMAZING, AMAZING!!! Starters, mains and deserts were all fabulous. Can highly recommend the calamari starter. My daughter said her chicken curry is one of the best she’s had and the homemade bread delicious. Will be back even when the eat out deal ends .

Visited here last night as a party of four. We ordered two chicken Kiev’s, a vegetable cannelloni and a cote de boeuf steak, which was cooked perfectly. Despite being busy, the service and food was fantastic and there was plenty of safety measures in place. Excellent menu too with plenty of choice.Highly recommend!

Had a lovely afternoon yesterday with the parents, brother and nieces. We booked up for a table of 7 and managed to get seated no bother. Food was amazing and so filling and greedily, we decided that we would also have a dessert. If anyone is looking for somewhere to eat out over the summer or whenever then I’d highly recommend visiting The Stackyard Sunderland We ate here on a Monday which also qualified for the Eat OUT to Help Out scheme and we ended up having 50% off deducted from the bill. Gutted I didn’t manage to get a photo of the others’ meals but they had all dived in fork first as soon as the food was delivered to the table

Haven’t been here for a few years but thought we’d give it a try while the eat out to help out was on. Firstly, really good COVID set up. One way system, temperature taking, details taken and even saw them sanitising the seats after customers left. The service was excellent - really genuinely friendly, attentive and quick. Now to the food - absolutely delicious! Starters of potato skins with garlic dip (really good portion) and I had prawns in white wine and garlic (beautifully cooked and tasty). Mains were belly pork with mash and cider gravy and veg. I had chicken Kiev with garlic butter. Both piping hot, generous portions, beautifully cooked and very very nice. Will definitely be going back and the full cos prices are reasonable too.

My friend and I had a lunchtime meal and it was superb. The staff were lovely and we were made to feel very safe during these challenging times.

Family if 6 here for the 1st time. Later afternoon booking but very busy, just starting to get the early 'teatime' crowd. Staff welcoming and pleasant.Good Covid 19 measures in place everything clearly explained before entering restaurant. Quickly shown to our table, drinks orders taken while we veiwed the menu. Potato skins x 3 for us all to share, followed by a selection on dishes, Pizza, Burger, Sirlion steak, Gammon, Crispy belly pork, and Chicken with pancetta . 3 Desserts, Banofee sundae (Delicious as it was my choice), Chocolate brownie, and a Cheese cake. All meals very tasty well presented and at the end of each course all empty plates going back to the kitchen. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals, bonus the restaurant was signed up to the Goverment 50% meal offer. The bottom line would we come back again definately YES with or without any deals. Thanks for our first lovely meal after 'lock down' and what it made more enjoyable it was our daughter/son in laws 20th Wedding Anniv.

We attended this pub for an evening meal as a group of couples following on from the lockdown period. Very professional set up all our temperatures were taken on entry to the venue. Very good and varied menu offered. As a group of six we were placed in the bar area made to feel very welcome on arrival plenty of meal options on the menu no one in our group ordered the same and all meals were very good. After the the meal we moved into the outside area of the pub to the rear where we continued to drink for as as long as we wanted to. Once outside drinks were ordered via their app. We wil return for another good night out.

Lovely pub with outdoor seating options. Name and phone number given for track and trace purposes, one way system in place. Two courses - black pudding, bacon with peppercorn sauce for starters. King prawns meal and rump steak meal for our mains. All tasty, good quality and presented well, served by friendly staff, thank you!

We visited on the evening of 30th July. One way system and screens at bar, the whole pub felt well organised. We had steak, cooked to perfection and washed down with a beer or two. Staff really attentive and friendly. Overall really good.

Food was amazing especially with a large group booking and the service was fantastic! Couldn’t be more accommodating for our little girl with food allergies and she absolutely loved her meal! Can’t recommend enough! Such a good set up to feel safe and comfortable, thank you and see you soon (Saturday) xx

We've been to The Stackyatd a couple of times of late but only during the week and this pub has to be one of the best in the area, if not the best, in my opinion of course. The food is great, the staff very efficient but friendly and you certainly get value for money. We've never been here for Sunday lunch so thought we'd give it a try this week. All the usual new rules are in place with social distancing etc and everything went smoothly with no inconvenience whatsoever. The food, as usual, was top notch and everything was perfect from entering the pub to leaving the pub. Looks like we are going to be regular eaters here from now on.

Family time at The Stack yard. Service was fantastic Social distancing was in place aswell as a one way system and hand sanitiser stations all around the pub. Food was amazing. Staff were all in ppa and very attentive. We had a lovely safe visit. Well done The Stack yard team.

Food was lovely and fair priced, as well as the drinks. Staff were polite and helpful. Will definitely be coming back.
