First time I’ve been and sorry to say I won’t return in a hurry. Had the full English breakfast, looked really nice, but started digging in and it was cold! So disappointed! Wish I had the guts to say something but it was busy and didn’t feel like having the whole place staring if I told the staff I wasn’t happy. Lovely, friendly staff though, just a shame the food didn’t come piping hot!

Hubby and I called in here on a Friday evening early. We wanted to eat outside which was very sheltered. Ordered two burgers. Food was great. Ordered a bottle of Malbec which was lovely.Service was particularly good so as we are staying in the Grand hotel virtually next door we will be back for breakfast tomorrow and I also expect we will have a lunch in a few days time

Just had one of the tastiest Sunday dinners, the food was quality, the staff very professional, courteous and we were served quickly. Lovely decor and whilst staff were wearing shields, the restaurant was well spaced so it felt very ‘normal’ which was nice. Will definitely be back and would highly recommend it.

Went for breakfast and thanks to Boris’s generosity unbelievable value. Great setting and warming and friendly staff. Poached eggs and the granary toast just perfect match.

Have visited here before a few times so we know that it isn't the cheapest but the quality of food has always been good. This time we left feeling very disappointed and ripped off.Our starters of soup and Ham Terrine were both really nice and good sized portions. For our mains we had the Ravioli in a Tomato Sauce and the Cod Loin Parcel. The pieces of ravioli were big but there was hardly any filling in them and the tomato sauce was just dollops of tomato puree so it was very dry and stodgy. The cod was the smallet piece of fish we have ever seen and I think the vegetables had just looked at the boiling water and jumped on to the plate. The staff were polite and friendly as always but I'm not sure if we would return after the disappointing mains which were definitely not worth the money.

We had a fabulous time and lunch here for my mother in law's birthday. We did reserve a table for 1PM which was wise given how busy it was. We ordered 2x fish and chips, onion rings, potato skins and 1portion of mussels. The fish was huge but beautifully cooked, the chips were golden brown and chunky and it came with mushy peas and tartar sauce. My wife said her mussels were delicious. There was a nice selection of homemade cakes desserts and scones. We order the lemon drizzle for the birthday girl and the staff put a little candle on it. It was also delicious. The wine and beers were good and the staff were friendly and helpful. The price was reasonable and I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone.

A lovely couple, Zean and Chloe who we met the night before at Victors in Sunderland, told us about this place just 8 minutes from Sunderland. What a cosy place right on the beautiful seafront at Seaburn. Fantastic quality breakfast and lovely coffee. It had a real boudoir feel and there were lots of yummy mummies and ladies who lunch there enjoying the velvet cushioned chairs and, no doubt the great cooking. A lovely cosy place with great food and a lovely sea view.

Called in for lunch today. I ordered smoked haddock fishcakes and hubby ordered the cottage pie. Meals cane out after about 20 mins hubby’s cottage pie was cold in the middle so had to go back. I was half finished mine by the time it came back. No apology. The fish cakes cane with a cream sauce which I asked to be served on the side which I was pleased I had cos it was awful. It was like a mix of butter and cream warmed up!!! The fish cakes (3 small ones for a main course) had a very strong Parmesan flavour mixed with the smoked haddock and I don’t like Parmesan. Served with a few spring greens didn’t really do it for me at all

First of all I will start by saying that my Wife an I have visited the Salthouse for coffee and light bites only . I have given 4 star rating ( Very good ) because it is quite a pleasant , warm and inviting venue to visit for a chat over a coffee and the coffee is a very nice blend. The reason I have not given a five star rating is that being connoisseurs of nice coffee and coffee shops as we do visit quite a few , we find that the prices are a little over inflated and the fact that a biscuit is not provided with your coffee a little on the stingey side , so come on Salthouse a little more for your money wouldnt go amiss

This is our first visit on an evening to the Salt House. We have been recommended by a friend. It was an early visit so quite quiet. We were shown to our table by a very friendly young lady. The menu is varied and we struggled to choose as all sounded great. We were served very quickly and the food was hot and delicious. The wine was reasonably priced and a cocktail to finish. Total bill was £90 for three courses wine and cocktails, well worth it. We will definitely be back, first class all round.

My son had fish & chips and I had a homemade chicken kiev, both served fairly quickly, cooked beautiful and very good portion. Whilst enjoying the lunch the display of cakes were in front of us and looked so appealing that we had to try. My son had his usual chocolate fudge cake which he really enjoyed but i was delighted with the mint aero cake! I have honestly never had a cake that was anywhere near as good as this cake. Honestly if we didnt like aroubd 130 miles away, I would be a very frequent customer. Service was also with a good smile from staff who clearly loved their work making customers very happy!

My hubby ordered mixed grill and had to run after the waitress to tell her he wanted his steak well done. My chicken Kiev was burnt and dry, I asked for mustard and another large glass of wine. The mustard arrived after I had finished my meal! no one asked us if our meal was ok!! And I am still waiting for my glass of wine. Visited for breakfast as an early father's day treat. We walked in and our orders taken quickly. When ordering 3 salt house breakfasts, we asked if 2 could be without black pudding, in exchange for a rasher of bacon. Quite abruptly we were told 'no it's veg can only substituted for veg, and the same for meat', we explained that black pudding was meat, to which the reply very much insinuated, take it or leave it, no apology. After this we all felt very awkward by the waitresses attitude. When the breakfasts did arrive they were nice, although my toast was the end of the loaf crust. No one asked how our breakfasts were, for £6.50, I don't think the breakfasts were worth it, nor was it worth to feel very uncomfortable for. When the bill was asked for, this was brought quickly, and forced chat was made evidently to gain a tip as a tip bucket was put on the table. Overall the breakfast was nice, however service needs improvement, I'm still wondering how black pudding can be classed as a vegetable? I won't be back in a hurry, after being made to feel so uncomfortable.

Yes it might be gorgeously decorated and cosy however We ordered two cocktails and one came with 3-5 flies in the cocktail that were clearly visible. I took it back and they were apologetic however also slightly not bothered. They did make a new cocktail. When the bill came I was expected to pay full amount. I didn’t expect a full refund, but I expect a certain percentage off our bill or a at least curtesy drink, since we did order meals as well. I know this is a mistake but still makes you feel uneasy about cleanliness as it wasn’t just one fly but about 3-5 flies.

The Sat House doesn't look much from the outside, but the food is excellent. I had scampi and chips - both hot and fresh. The chips in particular were excellent and there was a salad with a sharp dressing that was probably necessary to cut through the heavier food. A ginger sponge was possibly a little dense but that's nit-picking. The pace of the service and the general air of business means it's perhaps not a place to linger bit for a rapid lunch and a decent price, by far the best place in the area.

Great food as always at the Salt House - mussels starter were particularly good. Their strap line is ‘great food with fast service’ and that’s certainly what you get ( and at a reasonable price). My one minor criticism is that service was perhaps a little too fast. I would have liked a little more time between courses to let one course digest a little before the next arrived. Otherwise another good evenings dining on the sea front.

We visited Seaburn yesterday from Yorkshire. Upon looking for somewhere suitable after a big beach walk we had a dog, and a 6 year old. This place stood out, friendly, inviting and appeared to look after us (including the dog) we sat outside as inside was packed, plus it had stopped raining. We ordered a club sandwich, a childrens pizza and fishcakes. The order took forever! I absolutely understand it was Bank Holiday and busy but they had so many staff working and were very prompt in taking our order and payment. To the point where we would have left had we had to wait any longer. The fishcakes arrived without the poached egg, which I had to ask for, it then arrived once my husband had finished! We had to ask for our chips and onion rings which we had ordered. Again arrived at the end. No apology nothing. We left so disappointed! £30 odd quid for pure frustration!

Pre-booked the salt house Kitchen for Mothers Day. Had to pay a £10 non refundable deposit, whilst I know a lot of places do this to ensure they don't loose business I do think it was a little steep, never the less I paid it. It was very busy as expected, our table was ready and right in the middle. Staff friendly and welcoming. Two of us opted for prawn cocktail and the other 2 soup, my Mum said the soup was luke warm and could have been hotter but nice all the same. The prawn cocktail was lovely, however thought it could have been served with a bit of bread like most places do rather than charging us an additional £1.85 for 2 slices of bread (thought this was a little steep to be honest could have bough 2 loafs). Have to say the Sunday lunch was beautiful, all of us were impressed, I had the pork with the black pudding stuff which was absolutely delicious, good choice of veg all of which there was plenty and served red hot. We didn't do desserts as we were too full. We have eaten here before and always been impressed with the food. Lovely Mothers Day lunch with family.

I Like the setting and the decor. Have been a few times for meals and found them quite nice so there was nothing to put me off afternoon tea and I was looking forward to it. Staff were unusually flummoxed and we were served two teapots of coffee instead of one of each. When we asked for the pot of tea, a coffee pot of tea was delivered with a mismatching top which ultimately went down into the tea like a percolator plunger - it did cause us to laugh a lot so maybe it was a plus! We had opted for the traditional afternoon tea, and it came beautifully presented the scones (we had a choice) were massive and looked amazing. Unfortunately they looked a lot better than they were and most was left uneaten - which because of their size left an awful lot on our plates. The sandwiches were a mixture of white and brown bread and were nice but uninspiring. Basically everything looked nice but we left a little disappointed. For the whole experience we expected more, but sadly it was not delivered, hopefully it was only on this occasion.

Her birthday was in September and we only got chance to come to the cafe today (6th April) - after having twins you just don’t have the time. At the point of paying my mam took the voucher out of the envelope which she had received it in only to discover that the voucher was only valid for 6months. A totally genuine mistake. The faceless manager refused to accept the voucher as it would mess up the books as they write off (click more likely) the cash paid for vouchers that aren’t used. Totally shocked and appalled by this.. I mean who would do this to a 70 year old lady and what place only has vouchers valid for 6 months? The whole experience has left a bitter taste in my mouth and I won’t be returning to said restaurant.

Salthouse kitchen has two positive things going for it: great location and nice interior decor. That is all. I can’t comment on the food quality as we didn’t receive our food order. After over an hour we got sick of waiting and left for fish & chips around the corner at Minchellas! (Can’t be beaten!) This is despite being told after 40 mins our food was on its way - and only because a member of staff could see we were trying to get their attention, which was difficult in itself! After over an hour, we ended up putting our coats on and going to the bar to tell staff we were leaving, as again we couldn’t get anyone’s attention! We received a half hearted apology from a staff member, but no explanation. He didn’t seem at all surprised we were leaving to be honest! As we paid for the drinks we’d cradled the whole time prior to leaving, another disgruntled customer came to ask why her table had been waiting so long! I get that it was a busy Saturday afternoon, however, customer service goes a long way; being told in advance there would be a long wait for food and/or regular updates or acknowledgement from staff in the form of a smile while waiting wouldn’t go amiss. Had the service been half decent, I probably wouldn’t be wasting more of my time on trip advisor writing a negative review. I spent plenty of wasted time there yesterday to observe that the staff do not engage with customers unless taking an order and serving said order. It seems Salthouse Kitchen aren’t listening though having read other negative reviews about the service there. I won’t be back as there are plenty other bars and restaurants in Sunderland that knock the socks off this place all round and which Salthouse should be taking leaves from the books of!

The coffee is good too, which I can be. But fussy about! The staff are very friendly and their chat is great, they know their stuff! Such a great menu from full breakfast to eggs Benedict, pancakes to porridge. Loved it! The staff were friendly and the feel of the place was very welcoming. If ever in the area again will definitely revisit.

Came here today to hopefully have some lunch with my grandparents who don't get out much. We got there and we weren't sure of the protocol of the tables so we kind of hovered for a bit then decided to sit down at a table. We weren't acknowledged by one single member of staff.

It’s been too long since we all visited The Salt House and tonight, Saturday 17th, we were surprised to see a near empty restaurant, as the food was exceptional. Orders were Chicken Goujons x 2, Fried Goats cheese with Beetroot purée and Ginger, chilli beef and Asian salad. Absolutely marvellous!! Mains were 2 x Bloody Mary Chicken...Delicious, 2x North Sea fishcakes in a really tasty ‘Broth’ aka buerre blanc sauce. All of these were as good as any ‘Big City’ restaurants that I have been in. Honestly, this restaurant should be as it is throughout the day and FULL. The drinks and deserts were top draw too and less than £90 for 4. As said. It’s been a while since we have been but shall return again very soon. Thanks to the Chefs and front of house for making a usual Saturday night fantastically tasty.

My husband and I visited today for lunch. I ordered a ham salad sandwich in sliced brown bread. My sandwich came and it was made up one half sliced brown bread the other half they obviously used the end of the loaf as it was a thick crust!! I suggest they don’t do that in future as it spoiled what would have been a lovely sandwich,

This is on Seaburn sea front - less than 5 minutes walk away from the Mayfield guest house where we stayed recently - and we visited on a Saturday evening - without pre booking (most other venues were packed out) this venue was busy, being a Saturday evening, but the food was prepared fresh and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Pop along, have a look at their menu - and ENJOY! We did!

- confused decor, bit of a mix up with the order, but food good and excellent service - a bit rule-bound re when breakfast ends and lunch begins - not sure brunch exists - (and have to wait - seems to be a half hour when neither is available) - so overall, ok

Breakfast at The Salt House Kitchen sets me up for the day! It’s always delicious, everything piping hot, good quality sausage, bacon and eggs. Always good coffee, I usually have Americano or cappuccino or both! Rarely leave without a scone or slice or cake for tea time! Lovely staff and clean, modern seating area. You can go to greasy spoons if you want cheaper food and plastic table cloths but here you get lovely food and pleasant surroundings and Iv always found very nice staff for a little bit extra.

Came here for breakfast. Very nice decor. Sofas, lots of pillows and nice smells in the air. Full English breakfast was so clean and well presented. Didn’t taste greasy at all. Recommended

Visited for snacks and hot drinks whilst out walking with the family today. Whilst not particularly busy, we had to wait a while at our table to be served. A little frustrating trying to catch the attention of the waitresses as some chatted behind the bar whilst eating crisps. The scones were huge! Fruit scones were great, but the cheese lacked flavour. A nice pot of tea, but the cappuccino was more of a watery latte. Other diners were there for larger meals - the fish and chips looked particularly tasty. If I do return then maybe I'll try them next time :-)

I have had dinner here many times and brunch as well, it is not cheap, actually quite expensive, however the food is top-notch, the service is top-notch, and the view is absolutely the best. You cannot ask for much more from a restaurant, it is perfect in every way, every time. I absolutely recommend ordering the Black Pudding or the Homemade Fish Finger Sandwich.

I don’t know why it’s taken us so long to try out this restaurant however the food and service were perfect. I opted for the good morning gin martini cocktail with marmalade and it was divine. My mussels starter was superb, the juicy sauce was so good I asked for some bread to mop it up with. Mains were steaks which were cooked perfectly as requested. The salad was the best I had ever eaten , it had a sweet dressing. The triple cooked chips were amazing. Desserts we had cheeseboard which was plentiful and the creme brûlée was delicious. My calypso coffee was hot and just right. Puglister cabernet was a good choice. I thorough recommend this restaurant and will be back. Only things I would recommend for next time would be to supply or suggest if anyone wants any bread with the mussels to ask, the waitress was more than happy to supply. The creme brûlée was supposed to come with caramelised strawberries however these were missing , it didn’t detract from the brûlée as it was perfect. We did have 4 fruit flies as guests throughout the meal which was annoying as we tried to eliminate them however they were too fast for us. I would probably suggest removing the fruit bowl from the bar and storing the fruit another way. Honestly the staff and food were Devine. The food was freshly prepared and piping hot to table. Thank you guys, i definetly will be recommending you to everyone.

Visited for breakfast and it was faultless, service was quick for our drinks and food and tasted great, only criticism I would have it when you go in your not sure whether to sit yourself or wait as there are no signs indicating what to do, and again when paying the bill, I watched people go to the counter to pay but again nobody tells you to pay at the counter at the end so this could be confusing however, we will definitely be back in the future.

A great small restaurant who serve delicious breakfast or lunch. If you are staying at the Grand or close by, this is an excellent option with very reasonable prices. It is all cooked to order so slight wait but certainly worth it

I went with many colleagues for an evening of the 23rd of August and with Vegetarian option available I requested a Vegan starter and main which although off-menu were a fantastic and tasty options. This included a stuffed pepper for a starter that really impressed and a main that included mixed vegetables with butternut squash that was a delicious as it looked. My only criticism would be to put those options on the menu so others may enjoy them too - I couldn't recommend them enough and the starter and main made for a great surprise Vegan option that was far beyond anything I could have hoped for!
