We googled 'Good coffee near us' and it brought up The Spotty Dog on our journey up to Aberdeen. It didn't disappoint. The coffee was so good and the brownie we had was wonderful too. A great selection of products to buy in the shop. I wish we lived nearer and could go regularly.

The best hot chocolate I have ever had with a lovely fresh tuna and tomato roll - very nice. My husband had ham with chilli jam which was good. If I hadn’t been with my husband I would’ve spent a fortune

We stopped again at this excellent deli on our way from England to the Highlands as we remembered the delicious baps from last year when we were travelling. Great choice of all sorts of special food stuffs in the shop and baps made to order. Very pleasant, remembered us from last year. Very useful as a toilet stop too! We will be back! Thanks.

Really good coffee, excellent blend and generous amount goes into making your brew. Cakes are delicious too and often they have a gluten free choice. Because there are very few tables you pay a bit more to sit down, otherwise you take it away and it's very good anyway. Good selection of cheeses and wines. What more do you want?

I have meant to write a review of this lovely little establishment since I visited in July 2017. I was cycling from Lands End to John o'Groats and in need of sustenance. I was really impressed by the wide range of food that they had (much home made) and the lovely staff. When they learnt that I was cycling LEJOG for charity they offered me the food for free - bringing a smile to my slightly weary face. I've not managed to go back since but am determined to return again!

Popped in with my 92 yr old father in law and my husband. Gorgeous fresh coffee, but the cakes are to die for ! The Almond/Plum was terrific, but the Chocolate orange cake (still warm) was divine !!! Dads Tomato/Basil soup was perfect he said. I met the lovely lady who owns with hubby and does the baking and complimented her on her baking skills. What a lovely wee place. Bought cheeses too, such a array of mouth watering types.

The Spotty Dog is well worth a visit if you are passing through Lauder. They have a wonderful array of local and artisan food and beverages including bacon jam. Their bacon roles are really delicious as well as their meringues; however, my favourite of all of their gorgeous Scotch Eggs, their is a wide variety to choose from and they are so tasty.Definitely worth a visit!

A country holiday can be defined by local food and coffee options. The Spotty Dog was amazing! We went on the first day of our holidays and ended up going back every day. The coffee was amazing (the large flat white was perfectly done every single time and there was a top quality decaf option!). Croissants - perfection! In addition the Spotty Dog sells an impressive range of gourmet and speciality foods - the vegetarian scotch eggs are to die for :)

Two of us had lunch here today. Warm and welcoming inside as blustery snow fell outside. It's a quality deli plus tiny café. Pleasant relaxed atmosphere with a few tables alongside the produce on sale. Spicy first rate lentil soup especially memorable, along with delicious ginger cake. Plus decent quality coffee, served hot (not at 60C!). Recommended.

Best coffee shop in the Boarders in my opinion. Visited friends over the weekend, who moved up from Yorkshire many years ago. We always make sure we have a wander in on a Sunday before the drive home. There is always a little treat on the shelves that I want to take home, and this visit was no exception. Great choice including cheeses and other local and homemade produce. They do great coffee too for takeout or drink in and soak up the atmosphere. A little gem of a place.

We were looking for a place for coffee on the way north up the A68 and were disappointed by the indifferent reception at an earlier stop in St Boswells so moved on, saw the "Coffee and Home Baking" sign outside The Spotty Dog and stopped. There were two table indoors and one outside.

Me and a friend went here for a quick coffee a few months back. It’s very easy to find as well, saying that we almost walked past (glad we didn’t!). There was a handful of seats inside, but wasn’t too busy when we were there as we managed to get the seat in the corner. The atmosphere inside was so peaceful, very clean and relaxing! The decor is gorgeous too. Reasonably priced as well. Our barista and the server that was on that day were ever so friendly, very smiley and bought our coffees to us when they were ready. The cake we had was very delicious and tasted freshly made that day, server gave us two forks so we can share. There were other lovely traybakes on offer as well with well documented prices near them too. Overall highly recommend popping in if in the area. Will be visiting again if have the opportunity to do so.

Excellent café - pretty sure I would call this my favourite café within cycling distance from Edinburgh (and I've tried most of them!). A good range of sweet and savoury food options, most (all?) vegetarian or vegan. The waffles are my favourite. Staff always friendly. It is quite small and so can get a little bit busy - but can't really fault the cafe for being popular, and service is still reasonably swift. The only thing I will say is not great is the communication - I have, on occasion, arrived to find it closed with no notice on their socials etc.
