The food is simply stunning. I've never known a ragu to be so soft and yet so vibrant with flavour. The drinks were also great too. Service is great as they will detail and explain the menu to you and the top choices. My only knock for this place could be that we did wait up to an hour to receive the bill but I believe that this was due to only having one working card reader at the time. Other than that, a fantastic gem.

A hidden gem which didn’t disappoint. The atmosphere was great & the attention from the staff was impeccable. The lady who served us had so much knowledge & passion about the food being served, plus I let her select a sake for me which was delicious. Such an enjoyable experience, so different, can’t wait to return. Thank you very much

We’ve been coming here for a few years now - every time we’re visiting Manchester . Another fab meal last night on a packed Sunday eve . We went through the menu & had fun with some of the spirits available at the end ‘ ghost of beetroot ‘ was a winner as was the bottle of Moldavian red we had with our main course . Also don’t miss the speck - you won’t find better anywhere . Will we come back ? In a heartbeat !

Shocking service, very limited menu with exceptionally small portion sizes for the price. Waiter determined to dictate what we should eat. There are much better and definitely friendlier places in Manchester

I would give ten stars if it were possible. This was one of the finest dining experiences I have ever had. Everything was perfect. Service - perfect highly attentive but not intrusive. Recommendations upon what we were considering ordering were spot on. Suggested choices were superb and we left extremely happy but not that utterly stuffed feeling you can get. We had the butter and sage Spätzle, pelmeni, goulash Tirolese, along with raspberry tomato salad and borlotti bean salad, and foccaccia. What you notice is the balance of flavours and the attention to detail in every mouthful right down to the texture of the sage leaf. A fine Grüner Veltliner was an excellent companion and complemented everything we had. Dessert we shared tiramisu and sweet Spätzle with cinnamon and brown sugar - a seemingly counterintuitive mix of the sweet and savoury which again proved to be a marvel. If decorum didn't dictate otherwise I would have picked up every dish and licked it clean. In the end I did my best with the cutlery provided. As my finer half who treated me to this for my birthday said, you can pay slightly less per head than this for something nice but mediocre. And it's worth letting yourself pick up the phone and reserving a table at The Spärrows. A meal I have banked in memory, if you'll forgive the slightly vulgar connotations, and will dream of until the next time we go.

The food was incredible! The atmosphere was very chill, we had been walking the city all day on an 80 degree day and were welcomed in no problem. We had 8 dishes and every one was amazing. Our service was great, the menu was explained very well. It was a great meal.

Very bad smell whilst eating - very off putting strong smell of sulphur from a man hole within the restaurant near our table. Downside of having a restaurant in a former industrial unit - spoilt a special birthday meal with my family of 6 - not sure we would return as it made us feel queasy / nauseous and when we raised it the staff were aware there was an issue but nothing had been done about it. It smelled like the sewerage and makes me wonder if it is hygienic to be eating in such an environment- very disappointing.

This place is amazing. The food sounds pretty simple on paper, but each dish delivered bags of flavour. It was genuinely some of the best food we’ve eaten in the UK. You basically choose around six dishes between two people, and then the staff decide on the order/pairing etc. And while it’s not cheap, it’s by no means exorbitant for the quality of what you get. The only disappointment was the dessert, which was like a sweet version of one of the main dishes and just tasted slightly odd. However, that doesn’t detract from what was an incredible meal. Will definitely be back here at the first chance we get.

We were celebrating 50th birthday with friends. Amazing little place, with passionate staff. You order sharing platter and dumplings to share and pasta individually for the main course. The cured ham was excellent , the pork and beef dumpling was a notch above in flavour. The interiors are simplistic like there flavours. This is one of the best Polish- Italian fusion food in the northwest

This was our first visit to this wonderful restaurant and it certainly won't be our last. We tried to get in on many occasions but always left it too late as it's so popular so do book well in advance. Quite how they have made this such a wonderful eatery whilst being out of town and in a railway arch is amazing. The place has a brilliant atmosphere and our welcome was excellent. That last comment applies to the service throughout and especially about Hayley who is so passionate about the food and you having a good time it is inspirational! She gave us great advice on the food and drinks and helped enhance our evening even further. We had three of the different pastors and all were superb. The flavours in there incredible and it's innovative and interesting menu. The wine by the glass was top class as well and it was a pleasure to eat in an establishment that had very high standards in every element of its business.

The Sparrows is nested amongst the railways arches in Red Bank and is not the easiest place to find. Once inside, the place is intimate, quirky and different. The menu is very different and the food is refreshing and freshly prepared. I will return and would order differently now I know what I know. The pasta, dumplings and main course of goulash were all delicious. The Sparrows is a different dining experience. It does come with a price tag but quality usually does.

I have been here before, with friends and decided to return and bring some clients, who are very particular and know good food. There were 9 of us. It was a busy Friday night. The Sparrows excelled yet again. This place is wonderful. I recommend you put yourself in their hands, heed their recommendations (including wine pairings) and you will have a lovely meal, crafted with a real passion for what they are doing, served by knowledgeable, efficient and friendly staff. Speck, Burrata, Pierogi, Spätzle, Gnocchi, Pappardelle, Guanciale, Ragu or a variety of Swiss cheeses all seem to mesh perfectly in this Dolomite/Alpine/Trentino/Austro-Hungarian weird, (to me) mix of a menu that I can't quite figure out. Add in wines with constant new grape varieties i've never even heard of before (and I have had formal education in Viticulture and Viniculture, so i'm not completely ignorant!). This place is just a whole delight of new flavours and combinations. If you are lucky enough to have the opportunity to go, you'd be crazy not to. btw, liqueur pairings with the desserts are 'a must' too. That plum wine/japanese whisky thing with the cinnamon & sugar spätzle and mascarpone is just divine. My only complaint (!) is that, on paying, I could not add a tip with my credit card. So, one needs to leave it seprartely as cash. Until that is fixed, take some cash, they deserve it. It's amazing. My city used to be awful for food 20 years ago, now it's full of superb restaurants and the Spärrows is one of the finest. None of your brash, crass, fur coat and no-knickers minor-celebrity BS types of places charging for the (dis)pleasure. This is what a good restaurant is all about. Long live The Spärrows.

An amazing meal in every sense. I found it quite exciting that the restaurant is hidden away in a railway arch behind an unassuming door. The service was faultless at every turn. They took the time to explain the wine we had added there own thoughts to what we ordered. It was so obvious they take great care and pleasure in their jobs. Unbelievable food! We had the speck board with burrata, guanciale gnocchi, käse spätzle, pierogi and Daz’s wife’s brownie. Everything was top notch. Personal highlights if I had to pick would be the guanciale gnocchi and the speck board (100% would recommend adding burrata). Not a style of food you see often and after eating it I cannot understand why. Will be back asap and would urge anyone to go.

Me and my fiancé have had a string of rubbish and overpriced dates and then we came here. I don’t even know if we’ll go anywhere else now! The food is so delicious, we had the käse spätzle with the smoked sausage and it was simply incredible. We can a ton of focaccia too which was sooo moreish. The servers are all so nice and the place feels casual whilst also being classy. And our entire bill was under £100, and that’s including a bottle of wine (we had a bottle of Weegmüller which was way too easy to drink). If you haven’t been here, just go, and if you have, continue to go an support this one of a kind establishment! Definitely our favourite place to eat in Manchester and we hope to come here more often and experience more of the menu.

Quite literally hidden... Like an old time speak easy, you ring the bell and wait for the door to open. This tiny unassuming place serves up a delight for the taste buds. Nena our server was sharp, attentive without being overbearing, a delightful addition to an excellent afternoon. Thank you!

Mercado is a mix between a cafe and deli. It's a great place to get a coffee and snack, but does a good selection of panini too (I recommend the Milano). You can sit in or take out, and there's a decent selection of Italian/Spanish food in the deli section.
