Amazing , the steak was really good , i have no problems and my pasta and chips was really good , and my drink was really good

Its a bit dark and dated inside but please do not let this put you off! Party of 10 ate here last night It was for an 80th birthday and the whole evening went very smoothly with no problems. We all found the food very, very good!! Everyone loved it. My Dad said it was the best steak he'd eaten in a very long time!. To serve 10 people so smoothly with zero problems at all and staff that showed care and attention is quite rare. Thank you to all as the meal was a very good start to our Birthday weekend.

One of the best stakes I've had in a very long time (12oz medium rare rump),lovely and quick service.

Really good service from start to finish was servers by a lovely lady named kelsey who made sure we were attended to when we entered made sure we had drinks and checked up to see if we needed top ups and if the food was to to our satisfaction. To which I cannot express how good the food fas from start to finish. Which I believe we owe thanks to our amazing chef Shauni who made the most amazing garlic butter mushrooms which just melted in your mouth accompanied with onion rings with barbacue sauce which were so crispy and fresh! Our mains were to die for as I had a surf and turf which was cooked to perfection that I could barely finish the light fried chips which were a perfect a compliment! Would definetly go back again!

Well, what can I say …. Fantastic food, well presented, could not fault it at all. I will definitely go again. I really recommend this place. I think the young lady that cooked this was Shauni. Thank You!

My wife and I decided to stop of in Chesterfield for the night while travelling down country. I did a quick Google search and the Soulville Steakhouse stood out as quite possibly just my cup of tea . It most certainly was , I had crab fishcakes for starters followed by a perfectly cooked 8oz fillet of steak . Everything else on the plate was perfect too . My missus went full pork (ooh err) with chicken and pork starter and pork belly for mains , again perfectly cooked though the crackling could have been on a side plate so it didn't go a bit soggy . The staff were also spot on too , really friendly and polite to a couple of old codgers. Great music playing too , not the usual Coldplay insipid rubbish . Highly recommended. I bet the atmosphere is magic when it's busy.

We visited Soulville Syeakhouse on Saturday 1st June with friends. This was the first time for me and my wife and we absolutely loved the place it’s so quirky and the food is excellent. We have both never had steak so good it was absolutely delicious cooked to perfection. The table service we received was first class and everyone was so friendly and helpful. We would highly recommend this place and will most definitely go again now. The atmosphere in there is lovely and it’s so clean and well presented.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Amazing food as normal. Very quiet for a Friday. Bottle of wine. Pint of beer, starters and mains for two for under £62. Well worth it, lovely staff. Highly recommend this restaurant.

We have visited Soulville Steakhouse in Chesterfield a number of times but this was our first time in a couple of years. We had called ahead and booked a table for 4pm but due to a change in schedule we arrived 90 mins early and asked if we could bring the booking forward. This was no problem and we were seated. As always the staff were wonderful and friendly. The décor still gives the original vibe with interesting posters on the walls from Soul music acts and concerts from the 60’s. The place still looks fresh and clean. That is kind of where the Soulville we remembered finished however. We were given a menu which was very different to what we were used to. The heavy Deep South American soul food influence was all but gone and replaced with items that sounded good but didn’t necessarily fit with the restaurant name or style. Now I should mention what we ordered was fantastic as it was tasty, well cooked and well presented. No way at all could the dishes we had themselves be faulted. However we did go from being spoilt for choice on previous visits to trying to find something that sounded worthy trying on this occasion. In terms of value we felt this was good and around the price point you would expect, although you cannot say this is a fully “affordable to all” place with a shared starter, 2 mains and 2 drinks coming in at just over £60. The big question is would we return? Well on the plus side the food we ordered was great and the service wonderful. On the minus side the menu has changed away from its Soul Food roots and this is a big negative for us. I understand trying to move with the times or freshen things up but the menu doesn’t fit the ambience. This is further added to by the music being played. Where it used to be soul only, this is now mixed with ska and more modern tracks. This again didn’t work for us. It just feels the owners are trying to change the identity of the place. For me this will be a bad move as moving a restaurant called Soulville Steakhouse away from its soul roots is asking for trouble. So to summarise, service is excellent, food is also excellent. Price is ok but the menu needs to revert back to something echoing the name and ethos of the restaurant. Oh and the chef, as good as he is needs to stop whistling to every track as it’s very distracting and not at all tuneful!! We may return but the move from American style cuisine means it might be a long time before we are back which is a shame as this place was always our favourite in Chesterfield.

Excellent meal. 3 course special for £18.95 My wife had a wonderful 6 Oz rump steak for £11.95. Absolutely no waste on the steak. I had breaded mushrooms, 8oz gammon and Ice Cream Sundae for a grand total of £18.95. (We shared the sundae). We apparently arrived just before they closed for 2 hours in the afternoon which explained the lack of any customers but at no time was it even hinted at that the staff wanted to go for a break. Everything was very well cooked and presented. I’m not a great Motown fan but the music just added to the atmosphere. Thank you

We dined here for my Aunty’s 80th birthday. We were given a table upstairs to accommodate our booking of 22 people. Upstairs is a pleasant venue, similar to the downstairs restaurant theme but seemed to have a humble cosy vibe about it. We had pre ordered our meals two weeks beforehand. A member of our party had been disgruntled that they did not have the opportunity to order a starter - there is always one isn’t there - the staff were more than apologetic, though there was no need, and gave the whole party menus to order a starter if they wished. I hope this didn’t make the staff feel bad, as they were fantastic all night. They were attentive and extremely courteous, not just with us but with all customers as I noticed them working when I passed through the downstairs dining area. The food was cooked to perfection. I ordered a rump rare, it was beautiful and I dare say I probably didn’t need to use the steak knife that was provided and could have used the knife laid on the table it was that tender. After dinner plates were cleared we had the birthday cake presented by the waiting staff nicely, and were left to have more drinks at our leisure. A truly and thoroughly enjoyable evening, we will cherish these memories. I would like to say a big thank you to the staff working this evening for their brilliant service and food!

Great atmosphere and service and tasty steak! I had the set menu 3 course for £18.95: teriyaki chicken wings to start, 6oz Rump steak with salad and peppercorn sauce and sticky toffee pudding with custard. Everything was delicious and the service was fairly quick. We did book for midday when the restaurant opened though, so it wasn’t too busy. steak was cooked perfectly for my liking and the salad was fresh and well presented.

We had our belated Valentine’s Day meal here on the weekend and it was lovely, a really chilled and calm atmosphere which is exactly what we wanted. Due to how busy it was we were waiting a little while for food but the manager gave us two free drinks because of this, as well as this when we arrived the table had rose petals and little hearts on (even though it wasn’t actually Valentine’s Day anymore) which was a lovely surprise and the staff clearly went out of their way to do this even though I didn’t request it. The food was very nice and we were both very happy. I want to thank the staff for making our night really special and how hard they were working which was so very obvious.

Lovely food ,friendly staff. Quick service. Food was piping hot and great prices. Atmosphere was a little bit of a let down. But that might have had something to do with the time of day we went. Definitely would recommend.

35 for a steak that come with frozen chips and a couple of mushrooms is poor but the fact that my steak had been cut to check how it was cooked was pretty bad and the worse pint I have ever had

So many places to eat when you google a town so you hope for the best. We did and we got the best. One of the tastiest ribeyes I've ever had, cooked to perfection.The atmosphere was wonderful, the decor interesting and fun and the soul music was superb. They're not too pricey for a nice treat and the staff were all knowledgeable, friendly and helpful, working very hard to make peoples' evenings memorable. All good and all designed to take us back there happily without hesitation.

Ordered BBQ ribs for starters which were very tasty and that nice I should of ordered 2 of them.. And for mains I had the gammon which was perfectly cooked and plentiful.. Service was good and quick and managed to get fed and back in time for the end of my dinner break..

Rump steak was beautifully cooked and melted in the mouth . Lovely waitress and service . Only complaint is the heating wasn't on . So we kept our coats on .

I've visited Soulville many times, both in groups and as a couple, and we've always had a great time here. The service consistently hits the high notes, and the food has always been fantastic. The atmosphere is really nice, with great music to enjoy your meal. The decor is a bit tired in places, but you could argue it adds to its charm. The staff is really nice; last time we were there, we stayed for drinks after, and we were the only ones in. I asked the lady at the bar what time they close, and she said anytime, adding that we could stay as long as we like. I would totally recommend Soulville for its friendly staff, great food, and lovely atmosphere.

pre- booked a meal for 10 at 12am , 6th dec -food was very good BUT the heating had only just been put on and it was FREEZING- we all sat with coats /scarves on which spoilt our visit. The meal was for our friends birthday. As we had pre-booked surely someone could have put the heating on earlier!!!!!!

Toughest ribeye I've had to try to tolerate in a long time. Not paying for it is no compensation for a spoiled meal.

Within the centre of town we found this pub with a groovy 80's layout, vibe, a decor. 😎 (apart from their clothing)😅 Hospitality: 5/5 Exceptional service for our huge crowd; (additionally as-well before we even arrived). Food: 5/5 Everything we had was done to the highest quality. My food was fresh; with a taste of orriginal craftsmanship. My cheescake was deliciously creamy. 🎂 Layout: 5/5 Great size; with great character a style. A timeless location from the 80's with modern touches here a there. The upstairs private loft; (booking); sounds quite interesting Note: bathroom could do with a slight renovation, or modernising. +1 🌟 - very friendly, a reliable when booking at last minute. Note that unlike most eating establishments; this one typically shuts before eavening arrives.

Poor we was at your establishment last night for a 60th birthday surprise ,we was told to pre order our meal which we did ,but there was a mistake with our meal one of our party didn't even get his ,a child had to wait for his, his parent complained, your response was you hadn't ordered ,this was not acceptable, what was supposed to have been a celebration turned out to be a real disappointment, and to make matters worse, four members of our party had pork belly for starters and they are now ill a very disappointed customer x

We went to celebrate a birthday and it was so nice. There was 9 of us and all the meals came out together and hot. We also took a birthday cake and they kindly sorted it all out for us, it was perfect. Will definitely be going back.

Had been wanting to try this place for a while now - the lady that served us was great but the food was a huge disappointment. Ordered the pork and chicken bites to start and they was tough as old boots… ordered the lasagne and that seemed to be saltier than the Dead Sea. At least the lasagne was refunded but we’ll not bother in future if simple dishes can’t be done right.

As we was in Chesterfield for a long weekend and also celebrating wedding anniversary we decided to go to the Soulville steakhouse for a meale, it was very good value for money the food and drinks where of the highest standard, and really enjoyable. The next time we're in Chesterfield we will make our way there, the staff were very friendly. the restaurant was very clean and tidy with plenty of space and they did not rush you to clear the table to get the next customer in.

Been coming to The Soulville since it first opened in 2010 and still coming monthly 13 years later. A few changes have been made but its still a good place to eat. You get a good plate of food and never go away feeling hungry. The staff are very friendly and helpful so keep up the good work. Jane n pat

I visited here over 10 years ago and it was quite nice. Myself and my partner visited on a Friday evening and I was disappointed. The food was "okay" nothing to shout home about. We had starters, main, pudding and two alcoholic drinks each the total bill was over £85. The service was quick and friendly but the atmosphere was a little dull. I think I expected more from a themed place. It's an okay place but I don't think we would go back any time soon.

Stumbled across this place as we were passing by, would highly recommend. Everything was cooked to perfection and the portions were great. Staff also lovely, could not fault it at all. I haven’t been here for about 10 years as the last experience wasn’t very good. Gave it another go tonight the food was beautiful I had the stuffed chicken and my friend had a rump steak with Stilton sauce then we finished off with biscotti cheesecake which was amazing. The girls were so lovely and attentive 10/10 can’t wait to come again thankyou x

Still my favourite steak house, staff are brilliant but my last few visits my main meal was a little disappointing, not much garnish and only a handful of chips, the steaks are still top notch 👌 and I will still recommend it to others.

Me and my family went on a Friday night. We were shown to our table by a very friendly young man and our drinks order taken straight away. There was a great selection of meat dishes and selection of non-meat dishes also, our order was taken: vegetable lasagna, rump steak, ribs and rump steak, when the food came it was piping hot and presented very well. We also ordered pudding which was very nice. Would highly recommend for a family night out or if you are celebrating anything special

Waiting ages for drinks, the server totally forgot about the second round until we went up to the bar. ... not the best of starts. The starters in all fairness were good, the mains not so. The steaks were over cooked, and when we complained to the server she said she'd ask and then we didn't see her again. It's not a cheap Wetherspoons type place, and there are alternatives available. We won't be back.

Me, my wife + another couple eat at this restaurant probably 5-6 times a year and overall always come away well fed and watered and generally pleased however, and maybe it's because of Covid, the standard of service from the staff is definitely declining. I would seriously question whether some of the staff have received any training at all with regards to waiting on. Some of the things that we have experienced are staff collecting plates from the table whilst others are still eating, not knowing what food they don't have, not knowing what drinks they sell, or don't sell and the best of all, which occurred on a visit about two months ago was when we had all finished and were just about to settle the bill one of the staff asked "ave you dun wi yer cups"!! meaning had we finished our drinks and could she clear them away, minor things i know but come on, show a little professionalism. The music is generally great, some of the tables though are in drafty areas from the door, my wife was perished to be honest, nothing worse than eating when you're freezing. The desserts were microwaved so much they were hard on the bottom and stuck to the bowl however we mentioned this and they did remove them from the bill but i/we just wanted a nice dessert... The manager comes across as being very assured and helpful but to be truthful i found her to be a little too forceful and borderline rude, just my opinion! It probably won't stop us going back but they really do need to have a look at these things and make a judgement for themselves whether visitors are really having a nice experience or not, for sure places like this will not survive in these post Covid days if they don't deliver value for money!! The evening wasn't cheap either!!

We were welcomed by a friendly lady who took our drinks order & served them promptly. We then placed our order & our food arrived in good time. It was well presented & my half rack of ribs were very tender - the meat fell off the bone - & the BBQ sauce was great. My husband ordered a rib eye steak & it cut like butter, was perfectly cooked & only had a tiny bit of gristle, he said it was the best steak he’d ever had -he used to be a chef & knows his steaks! We definitely recommend this restaurant.

This restaurant was recommended to us by the barman at our hotel. There is a varied menu - steaks, ribs, burgers, pasta etc). We both opted for the 8oz sirloin, which was cooked exactly as we had asked for it and was very tasty. The food was filling, and good quality for the price. We were served quickly and efficiently. It was early in the evening, but the restaurant was filling up which added to the atmosphere. The ‘Theme’ is soul music, which I love and there was a very interesting selection being played,madding to our enjoyment. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes good steak and soul music.

Not great, very average in fact. The restaurant was empty. This was a birthday meal out which had been mentioned when booking but they didn't even bother to light the candle on the table.
