The Smugglers Kitchen in East Devon

6 of us dined, but only 5 meals arrived. The other meal had been missed completelyby the staff. That meant us sending all the meals back, and waiting, or one person eating alone. It wasn't a decision we wanted to make when it was a special occasion tbh!

Set perfectly within the lovely village of Beer. Offering a good menu to choose from. The food was excellent, and the service was second to none. Nothing was too much trouble. I can highly recommend this restaurant, and making a reservation is a must as it can get busy.

Had a delicious meal. Been here before. The only thing is that do not serve the food on a piping hot plate so half way through the meal it starts to feel luke warm. This is a shame as there has been a great deal of effort, thought and talent in the preparation.

I do not know where to start with such a fabulous evening. Susie was just incredible in helping us organise a surprise meal for a milestone birthday for 24 people. From communications (which started 9 months prior) to table decor, being available for dropping off of decor and cake to the service on the night which was 5*. We had pre ordered our choices and the food was all ready at the same time, piping hot and not a single person had a bad word to say about any dish. Many that hadn't pre ordered dessert made the decision to add this on the night, not because they were still hungry but because their mains were so tasty. This was accommodated and there was no delay between the pre ordered desserts arriving and the additional. Large tables can be a lot of work, and if we were Susie and her team did not show it at all. The whole night went perfectly, we could not have asked for better. Certainly will be returning. For the service and the absolutely incredible food. A smaller menu but with the largest variety. And every dish perfected. Thankyou Susie and all at the Smugglers.

Really fantastic service. I'm on a very restricted diet for medical reasons and a vegetarian. The staff were incredibly accommodating helping me find options i could eat. Particularly good for gluten free options.

The food and service are outstanding. Booking is essential as very busy. We love it here and visit when down in Beer. The take away burgers are great value for money. The menus is great and never been disappointed with our food. Well done to the team here a real gem.

I am not surprised that this place doesnt have a single bad review because the food in here is just sublime! The flavours are incredible, meat is cooked to perfection, menu is creative and exciting but not crazy and pretentious. I wish I could eat here every week! I take everyone here and nobody has ever complained. Its on a pricey side but it is worth it, you wont leave disappointed.

Staying in Beer for a couple of days so decided to book this for an evening meal. So glad we did, as a lot of people tried on the off chance, only to find it fully booked. And understandably so. Everything was first class - the food, staff, ambience, price. We had seafood linguini, jambalaya, plus a sharing Greek mezze - all of which was super tasty. Would Definitely come back and would highly recommend.

Had an evening meal with my wife and friends. First time we have used the restaurant, and won’t be the last. Good menu choices, and really nice staff, who were very accommodating. The food was well presented and flavoursome. The restaurant itself is very pleasant with a nice relaxed atmosphere.

Amazing little place we have eaten in and taken away many times . And they have the ability too produce some amazing food. This time round we had booked a table but our son wasn't well so we ordered a takeaway instead As usual the food was amazing and well made. It didn't have the same atmosphere as being inside which I would of much preferred. But these things happen. ,I certainly recommend this place to anyone visiting beer. , be warned they book up fast and the cue can be out the door for takeaway so be warned.

We came here Wednesday 13th September for dinner. The first thing we noticed was how nice the ambience was. We both enjoyed our starters and mains which were beautifully presented, portions were just right and flavoursome to eat. Photos are of the beef carpaccio and chicken flatbread.All reasonably priced and very good value. Would definitely recommend and return if we base ourselves in Beer again.

Booked in on Saturday late afternoon for a meal here and what a meal it was, we all had 3 courses and couldn’t fault any of them all were so delicious. The safe were all lovely too and looked after us.

Lovely restaurant, very comfortable layout, really nice staff and the food that we had was excellent. Prices are very reasonable. Children's meals are good and the options are similar to what you may see elsewhere however the quality of them is extremely good and freshly prepared. We ate early but were put under no pressure to observe the 90 min rule as indicated. We perhaps were 5/10 mins over. On booking I mentioned that were visiting for my daughter's birthday and that if this could be mentioned to her on arrival that it would make her day. They went a little further and made a bit of a fuss over her which was nice. This part of the evening was obviously special for us and no- one else. On the basis of quality and taste of the food, the restaurant layout, excellent and friendly service, I can understand why you need to book ahead to visit. I would not hesitate to recommend and if in the area again I would definitely return

I’m always apprehensive when I see Indian, Vietnamese, British and Italian cuisines on the same menu. The Vietnamese salad was the highlight dish, being a perfect combination of sweet, spicy, crispy and herbal. Desserts were also amazing and a great end to the meal. The lotus biscoff cheesecake had that perfect caramel flavour and was complemented by the rich clotted cream ice cream. I found the pizzas a bit of a disappointment due to them having too much cheese and being bit bland.

Booked a table for 4 whilst on holiday to celebrate my 60th birthday. We had such a lovely evening. We asked to move from our allocated table to one by the window, away from the door and this was no problem. Great service, Friendly staff. The food was amazing, 2 tasty pizzas, mussels and seafood linguini - all freshly prepared and generous portions ( the pizza we couldn't manage was boxed up to take away). The puddings were to die for - warm lemon tart, brioche bread and butter pudding and chocolate tart. All priced fairly. Would recommend this restaurant for delicious food ,drinks and atmosphere 😋. Great food,service and staff are wonderful

Takeaway Pizza- that genuinely did not disappoint. Having seen my dream pizza on the menu (goats chees, red onion marmalade and red pepper- I thought myself dreaming!! My friend and I ate them on the beach and it couldn't possibly have been any better!

Fabulous food would recommend highly, a bit loathed to do so makes it too popular. The 4 of us dined on the chicken wings and the cod lion and tahini plus puddings excellent. Staff very friendly really enjoyed the evening. We will be back next week.

We had the pleasure of dining here yesterday with our two small children. Friendly from start to finish. Children very well catered for and they ate more than I've seen before. For the adults, we had an amazing meal, Vietnamese prawn salad was full of flavour and the chowder was best I've had. My wife's risotto was just delicious and washed down with some lovely wine. The information on Google is wrong at least the opening hours, I advice calling if you’re planning to go. We came driving half an hour way as we were heading to a recommended restaurant which was closed as well, so we checked on Google for other options and came up this restaurant so we decided to go, unfortunately we arrived and it was closed as well as the other restaurant, everything was closed and we arrived at 19 and we were quite disappointed. Won’t give one star because it isn’t fair as I haven’t tried the food. Please update the opening hours.

Consistently the Best Meals in Beer! In recent times other venues in Beer have ceased trading or changed hands and then switched to poor quality Beers and drastically reduced their Menu on offer. Fortunately for us The Smuggler's Kitchen remains unquestionably THE Restaurant for quality food in our area. It's very easy to find in the center of the Village in Fore Street and next to the Church. In the nearby Village Main Car Park the Yellow Short-stay Spaces are Free after 6pm. Our latest visit for a Birthday Celebration was easily booked Online. The Restaurant was full but the Service from the hard-working Staff was friendly, and attentive but not rushed. The environment was relaxed, warm & comfortable. Our Mains of Barbeque Chicken Stone Baked Pizza and Branscombe Pork Belly arrived promptly and were excellent, hot, plentiful and very good value for such quality food. Our Deserts of Banoffee Sticky Pudding & Apple & Blackberry Crumble Tart were delicious. The Waitress had a brief chat with each table as they were paying their bill which was a nice touch, as was their overhearing that it was my Wife's Birthday and serving her Desert with a sparkling firework and an unexpected rendition of Happy Birthday! A range of Local Beers are available on Draught or in Bottles. They are certainly not perfect, their Starters are usually rather too fishy for our taste, they don't offer my favourite Nibble/Starter of Bread with Dipping Oil, and their Burgers still use Seeded Buns instead of the more modern Brioche Buns that I prefer, but that's all just personal preference. Now that they have so little competition the Smuggler's Kitchen will doubtless become even more popular than usual, so Booking is essential.
