The Smoking Goat Bar and Grill in South Ayrshire

Been here a few times. Nice relaxed atmosphere and allows dogs. The Cauliflower buffalo wings are awesome.

Food isn’t cheap but happy to pay for good quality, unfortunately the ‘handmade’ pizzas are not handmade based. Very tough and difficult to eat. Tempura over cooked and dried out. Lemonade is more expensive than a vodka dash…how? Was asked if I wanted to take half the pizza home and said no, it’s not good at all. No questions were asked, no apology, just taken away and binned. The server was friendly but other staff not and I wish they addressed the comments around the food. Atmosphere was good due to a quiz.

Far too loud, don’t bother coming here for a meal, not worth the time, money … nor headache.

Been coming here for over a year, but the visit today was very disappointing. Not sure if there was a short staffing issue or something but waited 20 minutes for a single can of cola to come to table, the food wasn't to the usual standard and portion size has been reduced massively yet prices remain the same. The quality of food has dropped massively, the drinks are in very small glasses compared to normal, and overall not the same produce being bought. This was especially noticeable with the hotdog meat quality, tasted like 40p asda hotdogs from a tin, not real meat.The dessert portion size was £7 for literally a10cm x 5cm piece of brownie, used to be a fair size brownie and could be shared between 2 or 3 people, everything should be cheaper to reflect the drastic change in amount of food served. Clearly more staff are needed, 2 people left to manage the whole bar was way to much for them to juggle, and this lack of management affected the usual enjoyable atmosphere, turn around and overall service.

We go to the smoking goat quite often for the monthly comedy night on the first Thursday of the month at 9PM. The goat has good vibes, and the food and cocktails are nice but a bit dear.

Mixed feelings about this place Had drinks and meal on a Saturday afternoon. Food was fine but £8 for jalapeno poppers that were fairly small - not good value. Burger was that pressed breaded burger your mum got from Iceland 20 years ago. Filled a hole and tasted okay but when other places are doing Angus or mince smashed burgers this disappointed. Staff were very uncoordinated, even with 5 you had to go to the bar to pay or get service, other staff seemed to wander - this is where a manager is needed. However it's a lovely pub, the atmosphere and decor are great. The food is okay but not great, the drinks selection is fine (except they ran out of some draft beers). I liked it and would try it again. The portions are okay for burgers but sides felt pricey.

What a wonderful delight in Ayr 😁 Ace basement bar, food looks great, and staff are lovely. Despite being fully booked on a Friday, they found space for us to have a few beers at the bar while listening to Davie Galloway play some cool acoustic tunes. Thanks, guys ❤️

Spent a while in the area and absolutely loved going to this pub. So much so I couldn’t stop talking about it once back in Canada. One of the most unique pubs I’ve been to. Staff are welcoming, food is delicious, and the vibe is chill. Definitely going back when I get to visit Scotland again.

This was our third visit to The Smoking Goat and we again loved everything. Service by Holly and PJ was fabulous, nothing was a bother and we were well looked after! Huge vegan selection and I even got a dessert! Deep fried pickles are an absolute must and the portions are really big!!! Great atmosphere and food. Be back soon

Fist time in here just to get a feeling for the place after discovering it. Inside is beautiful with stone walls , little coloured lights. One back area into smaller areas. Also outdoor seating with shelter & patio heater making it a special lil gem . Checked out the food menu for a later date & there's also entertainment. Staff were lovely so definitely coming back Street parking outside

We have a tradition before the whisky festival every year we eat and have a few drinks at the smoking goat. Absolutely love the atmosphere, the drinks and meal are amazing and very very reasonably priced. Waiter was fantastic. This tradition will continue as we couldn't ask for a better place to be before we get full of whisky.

Brilliant experience for lunch today. Food and service were absolutely top notch. 2 cracking cask beers from Fyne Ales to top it off. Will definetly return for the relaxed vibes and 5* service.

Lovely day outside but staff couldn’t be bothered putting out cushions so not allowed to sit out side. Boss needs to review staff as can’t be bothered attitude will obviously effect his business

Great pub with a great atmosphere. We went on a busy Saturday lunch without a reservation and staff still managed to accommodate us ! Food was great with great prices and cocktails were brilliant also.

The girls serving where helpful and polite, nothing seemed a hassle. I visited early during the day so was relatively quiet (which I like) but heard it does get busy. Food was nice, the cocktails are a little different to what I am used to. I would remove the sugar from the bloody Mary as they shouldn’t be sweet. The bars bar brownie is decent.

Had a lovely time here, food is superb for its category, their deep-fried dishes have great crunchy batter, quality ingredients, good selection in the menu, fair sized portions for the price, enjoyable atmosphere. Defo will be on the list of the favorites in Ayr.

Lovely bar and good list of cocktails. Waitress helpful and provided table service last night. Did not have food here but will definitely check this place out next time I'm in Ayr.

Very cool venue. Was super busy on a Saturday but still managed to get sat with no reservation. Visited with family got seated outside in a very cozy wee beer garden. Highlight of the visit was our waitress who sat us when we came in and served our table throughout the stay. Never got a name but was Sat 23rd of September blond with hair tied back. Very welcoming, personable and attentive couldn't fault an absolute asset to the team. Would definitely visit The Smoking Goat again and will recommend to anyone visiting Ayr.

Great food, service and atmosphere.

Food was a bit self consciously odd but tasty enough. Disappointed to find the waffles were not fresh but supermarket thick, sugary Belgian waffles. We waited a long time for our food (nearly an hour) despite it not seeming very busy. I imagine they're under staffed because our (charming and friendly) waiter was constantly whizzing about.

Great place, good ambiance they have a « month special » scotch if you like. We went for lunch and ate outside. I had the burger, was very good.

Great hidden gem in the heart of Ayr. As you decend the worn stone steps steeped in history you get the feeling you are in for a treat and trust me you wont be disappointed. Bustling little joint with a great atmosphere and lovely pint of the 'black stuff' on tap. Stick it on your Ayr to-do list for sure!

Popped in for a drink and bar drinks were fine. We were directed where to sit, Possibly as they had parties coming in, but it felt a little unfriendly. Decor could do with a revamp, but it's generally fine . Didn't try the food.

All the food on the menu is delicious. You will not be disappointed. Utilize the shot wheel it's only 2 pounds per shot.

Atmosphere was good. Fun place, but the burger was very very average and expensive for what it was.

Great bar and restaurant. Menu has good selection of food to choose from. Food is delicious. Highly recommend the black pudding pizza! They do great cocktails. Staff super friendly and willing to help. Had birthday celebrations there recently and the night was awesome. The acoustic night with Nick Morgan is definitely not to be missed.

The Smoking Goat is an Ayr Favourite. Their cocktails made by the fantastic barman Curtis (best chat in the town), the delicious tempura and solid portions, basement dungeon vibes, and confetti fun lights make for a great afternoon into a blurry evening. Favourite spot in ayr and a must visit, if only to look at the coveted goat painting.

Food was a little pricy but excellent quality and really tasty. Attentive and helpful staff. Massive plus for letting dogs in too.

1st time in this place, in for my friends birthday must admit very quick service free shot for my friends birthday, for starters I had bbq chicken wings then a meat feast pizza with some loaded pulled pork fries, 10/10 outstanding the waitresses are so friendly and served extremely quick, next time I'm in ayr I'll most definitely return here again! Lovely wee bar ,but food was awful .waffle with goats cheese at 14 pounds was uneatable had to send it back ,I got a fresh one which was just as bad .no fresh food all frozen burgers or pizzas .won't ever eat here again

Amazing food and great atmosphere

I've given it a four star because of it's unusual position and, for me, being a secret eatery. Visit was part of a CAMRA pub crawl.

I’ve lived in Ayr a while and only just stumbled upon this little gem. Good food and friendly staff. We will be back.

Nice cozy atmosphere and pleasant staff but the food ( pulled chicken, waffles) looked like the contents of a can of chicken and corn soup splattered on top of a bought waffle. It tasted as bad as it looked. The next table to us were served burgers. Thier plates looked horrible. Heard them talking to each other saying burgers tasted cheap. Im sure the smoking goat could do better. My course was taken off my bill and the staff were nice. Leaves me thinking the kitchen 'chef' needs to re think.

Good food, nice interior, waiting staff are nice and was pretty quick too, was abit on the dear side but I enjoyed it :)

Looooved this place! As a warning, the door opens right onto a stair case down. So try not to throw yourself down it. The food is amazing in here! Absolutely loved it and it is very reasonably priced. Cocktails are also great price and there is a sneaky wee outside seating area that is brill on a warm night. Staff are all really friendly and smiley. Totally recommend this place and will def be back.

The Smoking Goat is a cool venue. Basement. Exposed brick. Nice ambience. Their food is delicious and fresh. One of the few places I've seen in the UK where you can get a fried pickle. (Although I'm not sure why they serve it with stinky Bleu Cheese dressing instead of the traditionally delicious Ranch dressing.) It was one of my favourite places for lunch and to take family and friends from out of town. It's funky. Different. Top quality. Like I said.. it WAS my favorite place. I follow them on social media and this spring they had 2 for 1 burgers every Tuesday. They also have Trivia on Tues as well. I had family visiting from the states back in May, so I took them to th Goat for lunch. We were seated in a cozy little dark booth. Our waitress was a blonde lady I hadn't seen before. She looks a bit like Rosanna Arquette used to. She took our drink order. We ordered 2 Margaritas and 2 cokes. We also asked for a jug of water. The margaritas came with no salt on the rim. I've never seen that before. Still, no water. She took our order. We had the bbq chicken fries, one of their massive hot dogs, and I told her the guys wanted to order their "2-for-1 burgers". She asked which ones and they told her. My teenage son asked if he could get cajun fries w his burger. The goat has cajun ckn fries for a £3 upgrade. She asked if that was what he wanted. No. I just want the cajun seasoning. I asked if that was possible - to just get the seasoning but no chicken. She said it was. My other 2 guests also asked for cajun seasoning. My guest reminded her she would like a glass of water with her Margarita. The food came and it was delicous. Generous portions. Cajun seasoning on the fries. But still no water. We asked a third time for water. She brought one glass. We gave up on the idea of a jug of water. At the end of our meal, she brought the check. £81. I was a bit shocked when I noticed the burgers were not 2-for-1 and she charged us a £3 upgrade x 3 just to sprinkle cajun seasoning on the fries. I didn't want to say much in front of my guests because I didn't want to make them feel lke they had asked for too much or it was costing me too much to take them to lunch. But I did ask about the burgers. "Oh." she replied. "That promotion ended last week. We're not doing it now." I'm not sure why she didn't correct me when we ordered the "2-for-1 burgers" and she asked which burgers. The burgers are £15-16 apiece. If I had known the promotion had ended, I would have suggested we order from the lunch menu. The wraps on the lunch menu are about £7. Instead, I didn't argue. I just paid the bill and didn't go back for 2 months. I realised that I hadn't given them an opportunity to rectify the situation as I hadn't made the manager aware of it. When I did go back in, I ordered lunch and paid my bill. Afterwards, I spoke to the manager about the £9 charge for cajun seasoning and the waitress's failure to tell me a promotion I was ordering had ended. In total, that was an additional £9 (cajun) plus £16 (burger) - a total of £25 on my bill that I hadn't anticipated. He did listen. He said he was sorry. He said he was a new manager and it wouldn't happen again. I appreciate that he listened, but £9 for less than £0.50 worth of cajun seasoning? It would have been nice if he could have offered a free appetizer or dessert on my next visit. That's just good customer service. It ensures the customer returns and orders more food with the bonus of a free side item. If they don't return, then it cost the restaurant nothing to be nice. I think my mistake was treating the Goat like a restaurant instead of a bar. Restaurants care about the quality of their customer service and about bringing their customers back whereas bars are more focused on the drinks they sell at quiz night. The goat is definitely a popular local at night with the younger crowd. Maybe this old gal is just out of their demographic. ;)

Came here to see goats and was disappointed there was none. The staff however went out of their way to dress up with goat masks on and perform some sort of ritual with candles and chanting. Dinner and a show! Ever since then my eyes won't stop bleeding and I hear the voices of the old ones from the deepest part of the sea calling me. Popped in today for lunch with my husband. The food was amazing, and such a relaxed atmosphere. If we didn't live over 6 hours away we would definitely be returning!

Love this place. I was traveling Europe and we stumbled into this bar one day. Trivia night was phenomenal and the beer was perfect. Very warm and friendly place. Safe for travelers.

Had lunch, beef burger £17.95. Beautifully presented BUT definately wont be back, way overpriced. Was no better than a fairground van burger. When asked, when paying, If my meal was ok, I pointed out my issues and was told they used beef from a local butcher, with a shrugged shoulder. ABSOLUTELY no other reaction, Zero concern, no customer service protocols. Great bar for a drink but steer clear of the burgers.

Was in tonight for my birthday 🎂 and anniversary. Lovely staff and good atmosphere. Food was lovely BUT the starter, which tasted lovely, was only luke warm. Returned it but wasn’t much better. We ate it as my son had finished his and didn’t want to hold main meals back. Wouldn’t stop us coming back though.

Booked table for 6.30. Arrived on time and seated quickly. Waited about 10 mins for waitress to take order, then waited for another 50 mins for food to come. When we finished, waitress came to take plates and told us we had to vacate table in 20 mins, she then came back in 5 mins to take payment and reminded u we had to leave in 15 mins as they needed table. After all the waiting, we were being rushed to get out. Food was delicious though.
