Large premises with plenty on tap. Food is decent for cheap meal out

Very busy. Meal was average. Very slow to clear tables. We found a table which had dishes from previous occupiers, ordered our meal, drinks brought to table, still didnt clear table, brought meal still didnt clear table. We moved dishes on to next table as went empty, so we could eat our meal. When we had finished and left, dishes still left there, aswell as our own. This needs to be tackled, dishes should be cleared up as table goes empty. After speaking to others this is an on going issue. Reason for low star rating.

Always enjoyed this place but over the last two months wait time for drinks and food has doubled, with them even 'missing' our order, food is less than acceptable and staff just don't care.

Partner and me ordered food then same time just to have mine come half hour after my partner's. Surely a microwave curry doesn't take that long. My thoughts they ran to Asda probably. But once food was delivered it took an extra 20 minutes for my poppadoms, onion bahgis and a vegetable samosa which resembles a Gonk. By this time I already finished the cold curry.

My granddaughters food didn't have beans on it so had too wait longer and our drinks were left on the bar for ages. On a plus my Pannini was very nice

I have just come in with my partner for breakfast! Being told we cannot have breakfast as the bread is in the lift and the lift is broken….. There is a Asda supermarket next door so why in Gods name does a member of staff go and buy half a dozen loaves. I cannot work it out,

A solid Wetherspoons which means you know what you're getting in terms of food, service and general atmosphere. Plenty of seating and a large beer garden and service is always friendly and efficient, but there are the normal waiting times when it's busy. Wetherspoons is still good value, especially if you enjoy a pint of cider and you can pretty much get a free meal with a drink compared to buying a pint elsewhere. As with a lot of Wetherspoons there is some interesting local history dotted around the walls, somewhere in Wetherspoons they have a solid researcher able to find local history photos and details that aren't easy to find.

Usually have a great service here. Only thing is the eating area is kept way too hot. Like it is unbearably boiling. Could do with the temperature being turned down!

Popped into the Sirhowy in Blackwood today, we spotted they had a festive roast dinner on the menu. We were served at the bar very quickly and our order taken. Unfortunately our Xmas meal went down hill from there. When the meals arrived one was almost as described the other one had very little veg and no gravy. The waitress actually said "one without gravy?" We responded with they should both be the same. The waitress then said she would get some gravy. When she came back she stated that this was the way the veg and gravy came " in a bag ". I replied there were only 2 tiny carrots and two small squares of swede with a teaspoon of gravy. She then stated that she would get us some gravy but that it would be chicken. After asking for the gravy twice and none arriving. I then went to the kitchen and asked again and was told for the third time it was on its way. I said that by the time you get the gravy our meal was nearly over. The mash which was a packet was cold to start with. We waited a further ten to fifteen minutes and then asked to speak to the manager (who happened to be the person I had spoken to the first time) he advised me that he had informed the kitchen and he did apologise. He didn't offer to reimburse the cost or get a new meal. And quote" it would not be cost effective to give us a new bag containing veg and gravy." I advised him I was not happy, would not be coming back and that a very poor review would be written. So beware don't expect your festive meal to look like the menu.

Quite a wait to be served, but it was a Saturday evening in fairness. Ordered off the app and that was quick. Beautiful building. Staff pleasant and helpful. Ordered the sticky Korean chicken with rice special - not all the food was hot (and you gotta be so careful as rice is volatile!), so I did mention it and we were offered fresh. However we had the same bowl of food brought back! But at least it was all hot. Very tasty dish but what you get isn't what is pictured - no chillies or coriander just in case you pin your hopes on them!

Only giving it a 4 as its a bit tired and could do with a bit of investment sprucing up the place (see tables)

Yet AGAIN the app is incorrect as to what real ales /guest ales, are available. I do not understand why they cannot get this right.

Went in for tea before ordering, no clean cups available ,the place is a shambles only one person working bar .

The food is lovly there but the staff giving out the food is so rude with attitude specially the one young girl that served us wish I took her name to report

Good wetherspoons, cheap beer, cheap food but good service and tasty. Recently the food portions have gone down, chips with the meal were not many, and the Beyond Burger has shrunk to about half size. The piece of lettuce in the burger was particularly tiny. They are little things but show it is not as good as it used to be.

Food was delicious & arrived warm, not hot, but was edible. Good selection of food & at good prices with lots of specials available, particularly on Thursdays when it's curry day. The food arrived fairly quickly but the waiters weren't very polite. I tried to engage in abit of conversation with both of them but they ignored me. I won't be leaving a tip! It won't put me off from going there again though.

Can't fault the prices and great selection of drinks, but can be quite noisy.

Panicked at the bar and ordered the mixed grill. This was a grave error. As other reviews have said, it is mostly inedible. The staff are lovely though, and good vibes too - I assume everyone else ordered other dishes!

It's a wetherspoons pub, you know what to expect. It has a nice layout but it's a bit grubby in places Generally found the food to be ok but lacking quality or care with presentation.

Met with friends it was ok but wasn't impressed with cash only had to go and find a cashpoint

We are regulars in this weatherspoons, have been for years, Unfortunately standards have gone downhill for a while, just simply not enough staff, it could be a goldmine if managed right as it is so popular in blackwood, it is disappointing to see how standards have slipped and the problem could be easily rectified, Area mamagers should visit on a fri of sat afternoon and see exactly what it is like.

We three had : the ramen bowl, steak & ale pie, mushy pies & mash and a jalfrezi curry with garlic naan & poppadoms. For drinks pint of blackcurrant & lemonade (70s pop & black) & two corona 0/0s with lime. Hubs and me also had hot chocolate 🍫 We enjoyed our meals at 'spoons and will return :)

We are regulars of the Malcom uphill Caerphilly. We came here today for a change and we were absolutely disgusted. Most empty tables were full of glasses and dirty dishes. Our food arrived ten minutes before our drinks, my drink was wrong (we double checked it wasn’t our fault on the app) then it took me 2 staff to ask for the correct drink which took another 10 mins. Defo won’t be returning

Food is often hit or miss. I've had great food and service and I've also had terrible food and service. Recent visit items were missing from my plate, we complained and was met with hostility. Made me feel like it was my fault the kitchen missed them off because "he saw them on the plate when he brought them out". No apology. Won't be back for food.

Best value breakfast around. No idea how they do it. Loads of tables. Easy to order, reasonable delivery and a really nice big breakfast for silly money. The machine-made coffee won't make a lasting impression sadly, but didn't really expect anything better. Great company but they didn't provide that 🤣🤣

It is purely a convenience to eat at a Wetherspoons to be honest. Abergavenny branch is the only one I would go to to eat again. So back to Blackwood branch. Lovely big pub, outside area is good, service was relatively quick after ordering through the app. Good service at the bar although staff seemed stressed. Lots to choose from the menu and reasonably priced to be fair. However lacking chef skills as my chicken strips were slightly overcooked.

Shame the food wasnt very warm especially the eggs usually i find it very good

I do like this place but why oh why can't they keep their app up to date. I am fed up of ordering drinks only to be told that it isn't available. Today I looked on the app and there were no Guest Ales available. I was in the area so I popped in.... There were 3 available. Can it really be so difficult to keep your app up to date. No wonder you are only rated at about 2.5

Like Ronseal - does what it sais on the tin. Was the original. Find myself going more and more often. Always clean and the prices are amazing and the quality of the food and drinks is exceptional.

One of the best Spoons I've been in loads of rock memorabilia and Stephen the manager was always around helping out.

Had a lovely lunch in Spoons Blackwood today. Food was good. Service was good. Shout out to the manager Sam x

Generally good service however lacks a leader at the front to muster the young staff to clear tables rather than walk past empty handed. Lacks the big screen ambience of Spoons Caerphilly (large screen TVs and projectors) dislike kids using the adults only area (so if not policed remove the sign) Jarad was exceptional this week. When other staff ignored dirty tables Jarad was superb, never stopped, always asked if we were having a good time and deserved praise.

Great atmosphere, good service and the wee Scotsman was a dream. Wonderful. Highly recommend. Only problem with Witherspoon's is the stairs, but they have a lift.

First we ordered coffee the coffee machine wasn’t working we had to wait 15mins before someone filled it with milk the area was dirty no sugar sweetners our meal came i sent it back there was no fish it was all batter the bread was like toast where it had been under the lamp for so long when my meal come back it was totally different my granddaughter had ham she thought it was bacon it was that dry from being under the lamp the sauces were all empty the poor waitress was rushed off her feet but so lovely it was a disaster wont certainly eat there again

Worst branch in UK. Real ales rarely available and are usually undrinkable. Other local Wetherspoons are good. Why is Black wood so consistently poor

Stopped in for food here, food arrived very quickly wasn't hot just warm, bog standard microwave meal that was probably left on the pass while my partners food was being cooked. Now feeling rather unwell. Shall definitely not be returning!! Cheap food yes but least serve it properly! All about making money.

Nice open feel to seating area, clean and well looked after. Service good food nice but lacking presentation...bit of side salad or few crisps would help.

Tables left literally for an hour or more with dirty plates on them. We along with other customers had to remove the plates ourselves to be able to sit down. People sending drinks back because the hlasses were dirty. I took my strongbow back as it tasted awful, was told by the staff member its probably the glass. We didn't bother with food after as there was a family complaining about their food. Cheap beer is good but not when you have to sit on a dirty table.

I called in today. Although not busy, the place looked like a tip. Rubbish on the floor, uncleared tables, toilets not cleaned or inspected. Hygiene standards need vast improvement.

Well, my personal experience here was bad. I will not return here no more. 1st time here and having food too. I googled Sunday dinners and this place showed up. I got there and they didnt do Sunday dinners. I ordered a double cheeseburger with fries and a coke. The waiter brought my food. Did not even greet me. Just put the plate on my table and walked away. No "enjoy your meal" or told me where the sauces were incase I needed them. I had to go get a microscope to see my burger. Tiny thing. The chips were around 20 of them. The burger was wrong. They sent me an american something. I had to go downstairs and complaint. The girl who served me hid inside the room behind the bar becauese of her mistake. No need for that. It was just a mistake. Of course I had to pay the extra for the cheese. So, almost £9 for my meal that was definetly not worth it. £3.50 would be more than a fair price for that. No waiters about to see if all is good. I would have been better off with a Tesco meal deal like I normally have. This is my honest review, with no intention of bashing people and the place. I will not return here again. I will try out other local places to see if they are better. Businesses are too focused on profit and dont care anymore about good service and reputation.

Very nice venue recently expanded, drinks are well priced and the food is a bit hit or miss - most is frozen, comes in packets or prepared in microwaves (knowledge attained from ex employees) and fried eggs are consistently crucified to inedibility under heat lamps. The service and the staff however are brilliant and super friendly.

Blackwood Wetherspoons are always running low on certain foods and drink I’ve had pizza before without pepperoni and rocket when it states on the menu also dirty tables staff take the empty plates off the tables but don’t spray them clean when they do take the plates!

Visited while on holiday in Newbridge area of Wales.. Went To Blackwood, nice pub.. 👍😊

Can't fault the food for the price it was lovely ,the toilets r clean so is the bar area only negative comment is the tables very sticky and things left from last customer plates etc and it wasn't busy ,the glass separating each booth could do with cleaning apart from that had a lovely time .

Only problem was the toilets being be on upstairs

Had a mixed grill, lamb and gammon were rather dry, meal was lukewarm. Had to find a waiter to get the ordered sides delivered.

Love this place, when everywhere does cooked dinners there's always other options on a Sunday. The furniture and decor is a little dated/damaged but overall a good experience.

I feel I have to inform all customers that Blackwood Weatherspoons unfortunately has ableism amongst their staff( anti disabled).I am only writing this because this is what I observed at this pub towards another customer by a female member of their bar staff.I can only presume that this ignorant person is prejudiced against disabled people thus making her feel superior.How wrong can she be!!I hope the next time I come into your establishment I am not privy to a repeat performance and hope that those less fortunate are welcomed with good heart and respect.

Ordered food came chips where cold the pizza was disgusting hardly any cheese the crust was rock hard worst food Iv had

Came in for basic lunch ham egg and chips came out looked ok still not fan putting cold ham on hot plate but that was not the problem tucked into it flipped ham to find blue mold. Took back waiter showed to manager who tried to pass off as blue off package but I'm a chef of 40 years and know what mold looks like.. total disgrace meal should never been sent out chefs need training before there kill someone worst place around...

Visited for drink with friends, no draught beer due to staff forgetting to order stock in , this was all over the weekend. Tables full of dirty dishes and glasses. Gone downhill.

Ordered a smaller portion as I don't have a large appetite and dislike waste, but I was shocked at the portion size, I had fish and it was mainly batter and the actual fish was smaller than a fish finger! I raised my disappointment and dissatisfaction with staff and I was told that it is the size of a child portion. I was upset by this as it's trade discrimination in my opinion! Shame on them!

Visited here in Friday 2nd Feb with my friends and daughter we arrived at 7pm ordered a round of cocktails pitchers and some soft drinks as my daughter who is 20yrs old is pregnant. At around 9.15pm the door staff came around and asked my daughter for ID which she did not have, she was immediately asked to leave with a stinking attitude. We asked if we could finish our drinks as we had just had another 2 rounds delivered minutes b4 we was told 3 of us could but my daughter could not. We could not get a taxi for 40mins and they refused to let my 24week pregnant daughter wait inside so threw her out in the rain. We also had 4 full jugs of cocktails that they would not allow us to drink either. This place is happy to take your money but the attitude of staff there stinks !! I won't be rushing back to this place in a hurry !! We was also about to order food b4 she was asked for ID so glad we didn't as this would have also gone to waste.

Really poor service. Children's meals came with a drink & fruit snack. Half way through our meals I kindly asked and made the waitress aware we weren't given fruit snacks which children were patiently waiting for. Waitress did not come back to us after we waited 20mins. My partner then went to bar to enquire and we were told they would bring them to our table. By this point, we had long finishes our meals. Still waiting, I asked one of the male waiters same question to which we were told he would bring them to us. Yet again, no luck after half hour of waiting by the door ready to leave. Fourth time asking I went to the hatch were I was met with the same waiter who told me it had slipped his mind. I appreciate you may have all been busy but what I don't appreciate is paying for a service that we clearly aren't getting and it seems both waitress and waiter need to be mindful of their forgetfulness when children are waiting on something we have paid for. Very poor quality of service today. Will not be going back!

Busy Saturday afternoon,close to Christmas.food arrived quickly and was lovely.

Had £6+ breakfast. Food was cold, egg tasted like plastic. Toilets on upper floor so had to climb 4 flights of stairs. All in all an awful experience I won't be repeating

Ok food, always a scummy atmosphere as in every Witherspoons due to the cheap booze attracting human filth who'd rob the eyes out of your head for beer money. Nice clean toilets.

It’s cheap and cheerful. Never waiting long for food and never been let down either. Big fan of brekkie there, my kids love the pizza and I recently tried the burger and was so happy with it. For the price it’s a winner.

Meals were on a set Wetherspoons menu but had a bit of a problem with WiFi coverage so using it to have new qr code scan from menu to access table service was tricky and ordered at bar. With my family member who ordered great value afternoon special comes with a drink hot or cold. Great meal and good portion. My meal was a chicken cheesy burger meal and so delicious. Did not wait long for food, which enhanced our experience. More attention though to clearing tables as many areas were left unclean and cluttered with glasses and plates.

Banned and kicked out with no reason after spending lots of money on drinks and food after many hours. Very rude manager with horrible attitude.

I suppose this company doesn't care but our visit to The Sirhowy pub yesterday was horrendous. My sister, my grandmother and I went in to have a meal and celebrate my sister's 20th birthday. My grandmother paid, bought me and my sister a pint of cider/lager and we were chatting while we waited for our food. 20mins later, my sister had drunk about quarter of her pint at this point and a staff member came over and asked for ID, my sister didn't have it with her, we had a copy but not the physical card (we didn't make a fuss and we fully take responsibility for my sister stupidly not having her ID) so they took away her pint and and replaced it with a coke, my grandmother quite rightly and politely asked if she could have the difference in money back for the drink. (A pint of cider is not the same price as a soft drink.) The staff member said no very rudely (and we could here the manager and the other bar staff talking about us and pointing at us at this point.) We were of course made to feel uncomfortable and unwelcome so we just asked if we could have a refund on the food so we could eat elsewhere. They said they'd ask. Another staff member from the kitchen overheard and said our food is ready and do we want it. We said we were waiting on a decision on the refund for a second so just hold it until someone comes back to us. 15/20 more minutes had passed and no one came to us until the manager then comes bursting out of the kitchen and asked "are you having the food or what?" Very aggressively and very rudely. So we explained the problem again and no one had come back to us with a decision on the refund. The manager leaned over the table and got in my grandmother's face a bit and said she's not given us a refund and the whole situation was out fault anyway. (Like we said we did take responsibility for the ID problem but we don't feel welcome anymore which was their fault) So as we had paid for the meal we obviously begrudgingly had the food. While we were eating we also heard 3 other tables had complained and left quickly as did we as soon as we had finished we left and went to the caerphilly Wetherspoons instead. Were the service and staff were lovely and we had no problems at all and spend a few hours and had a few drinks there. On speaking to other people in the caerphilly wetherspoons, a lot of people apparently will not go to The Sirhowey because the staff and the service are always terrible. They definitely all need to learn customer service and general manners. We of course will never be eating there again.

Really nice pub, looked after and clean

Lovely cosy and clean restaurant. Recently been extended with a larger outdoor beer garden area with heaters and they now have a fire place in the extended restaurant area. Good value for money, friendly and quick service.
