The Sirhowy JD Wetherspoon in Caerphilly

Blackwood Wetherspoons are always running low on certain foods and drink I’ve had pizza before without pepperoni and rocket when it states on the menu also dirty tables staff take the empty plates off the tables but don’t spray them clean when they do take the plates!

Visited while on holiday in Newbridge area of Wales.. Went To Blackwood, nice pub.. 👍😊

Shame to read this was the worst Weathersppons in whole of Wales. Can do better, we suppose.

Had great dinners here love fish chips just like old times As they say dint knock it tillyou tryiedit

Can't fault the prices and great selection of drinks, but can be quite noisy.

Had a mixed grill, lamb and gammon were rather dry, meal was lukewarm. Had to find a waiter to get the ordered sides delivered.

Love this place, when everywhere does cooked dinners there's always other options on a Sunday. The furniture and decor is a little dated/damaged but overall a good experience.

I feel I have to inform all customers that Blackwood Weatherspoons unfortunately has ableism amongst their staff( anti disabled).I am only writing this because this is what I observed at this pub towards another customer by a female member of their bar staff.I can only presume that this ignorant person is prejudiced against disabled people thus making her feel superior.How wrong can she be!!I hope the next time I come into your establishment I am not privy to a repeat performance and hope that those less fortunate are welcomed with good heart and respect.

Ordered food came chips where cold the pizza was disgusting hardly any cheese the crust was rock hard worst food Iv had

Came in for basic lunch ham egg and chips came out looked ok still not fan putting cold ham on hot plate but that was not the problem tucked into it flipped ham to find blue mold. Took back waiter showed to manager who tried to pass off as blue off package but I'm a chef of 40 years and know what mold looks like.. total disgrace meal should never been sent out chefs need training before there kill someone worst place around...

Lovely place lovely views and lovely staff

Visited for drink with friends, no draught beer due to staff forgetting to order stock in , this was all over the weekend. Tables full of dirty dishes and glasses. Gone downhill.

Ordered a smaller portion as I don't have a large appetite and dislike waste, but I was shocked at the portion size, I had fish and it was mainly batter and the actual fish was smaller than a fish finger! I raised my disappointment and dissatisfaction with staff and I was told that it is the size of a child portion. I was upset by this as it's trade discrimination in my opinion! Shame on them!

Nice Chil out after work really enjoyed, should have more than 2 barstaff on the weekend though

Visited here in Friday 2nd Feb with my friends and daughter we arrived at 7pm ordered a round of cocktails pitchers and some soft drinks as my daughter who is 20yrs old is pregnant. At around 9.15pm the door staff came around and asked my daughter for ID which she did not have, she was immediately asked to leave with a stinking attitude. We asked if we could finish our drinks as we had just had another 2 rounds delivered minutes b4 we was told 3 of us could but my daughter could not. We could not get a taxi for 40mins and they refused to let my 24week pregnant daughter wait inside so threw her out in the rain. We also had 4 full jugs of cocktails that they would not allow us to drink either. This place is happy to take your money but the attitude of staff there stinks !! I won't be rushing back to this place in a hurry !! We was also about to order food b4 she was asked for ID so glad we didn't as this would have also gone to waste.

Really poor service. Children's meals came with a drink & fruit snack. Half way through our meals I kindly asked and made the waitress aware we weren't given fruit snacks which children were patiently waiting for. Waitress did not come back to us after we waited 20mins. My partner then went to bar to enquire and we were told they would bring them to our table. By this point, we had long finishes our meals. Still waiting, I asked one of the male waiters same question to which we were told he would bring them to us. Yet again, no luck after half hour of waiting by the door ready to leave. Fourth time asking I went to the hatch were I was met with the same waiter who told me it had slipped his mind. I appreciate you may have all been busy but what I don't appreciate is paying for a service that we clearly aren't getting and it seems both waitress and waiter need to be mindful of their forgetfulness when children are waiting on something we have paid for. Very poor quality of service today. Will not be going back!

Horrible manager, banned my friend for no reason.... Prejudice little man, doesn't like dreads and piercings. Avoid this place. Someone like that shouldn't be managing anything! Absolutely disgusting human being!

Busy Saturday afternoon,close to Christmas.food arrived quickly and was lovely.

Had £6+ breakfast. Food was cold, egg tasted like plastic. Toilets on upper floor so had to climb 4 flights of stairs. All in all an awful experience I won't be repeating

Ok food, always a scummy atmosphere as in every Witherspoons due to the cheap booze attracting human filth who'd rob the eyes out of your head for beer money. Nice clean toilets.

It’s cheap and cheerful. Never waiting long for food and never been let down either. Big fan of brekkie there, my kids love the pizza and I recently tried the burger and was so happy with it. For the price it’s a winner.

Meals were on a set Wetherspoons menu but had a bit of a problem with WiFi coverage so using it to have new qr code scan from menu to access table service was tricky and ordered at bar. With my family member who ordered great value afternoon special comes with a drink hot or cold. Great meal and good portion. My meal was a chicken cheesy burger meal and so delicious. Did not wait long for food, which enhanced our experience. More attention though to clearing tables as many areas were left unclean and cluttered with glasses and plates.

Banned and kicked out with no reason after spending lots of money on drinks and food after many hours. Very rude manager with horrible attitude.

I suppose this company doesn't care but our visit to The Sirhowy pub yesterday was horrendous. My sister, my grandmother and I went in to have a meal and celebrate my sister's 20th birthday. My grandmother paid, bought me and my sister a pint of cider/lager and we were chatting while we waited for our food. 20mins later, my sister had drunk about quarter of her pint at this point and a staff member came over and asked for ID, my sister didn't have it with her, we had a copy but not the physical card (we didn't make a fuss and we fully take responsibility for my sister stupidly not having her ID) so they took away her pint and and replaced it with a coke, my grandmother quite rightly and politely asked if she could have the difference in money back for the drink. (A pint of cider is not the same price as a soft drink.) The staff member said no very rudely (and we could here the manager and the other bar staff talking about us and pointing at us at this point.) We were of course made to feel uncomfortable and unwelcome so we just asked if we could have a refund on the food so we could eat elsewhere. They said they'd ask. Another staff member from the kitchen overheard and said our food is ready and do we want it. We said we were waiting on a decision on the refund for a second so just hold it until someone comes back to us. 15/20 more minutes had passed and no one came to us until the manager then comes bursting out of the kitchen and asked "are you having the food or what?" Very aggressively and very rudely. So we explained the problem again and no one had come back to us with a decision on the refund. The manager leaned over the table and got in my grandmother's face a bit and said she's not given us a refund and the whole situation was out fault anyway. (Like we said we did take responsibility for the ID problem but we don't feel welcome anymore which was their fault) So as we had paid for the meal we obviously begrudgingly had the food. While we were eating we also heard 3 other tables had complained and left quickly as did we as soon as we had finished we left and went to the caerphilly Wetherspoons instead. Were the service and staff were lovely and we had no problems at all and spend a few hours and had a few drinks there. On speaking to other people in the caerphilly wetherspoons, a lot of people apparently will not go to The Sirhowey because the staff and the service are always terrible. They definitely all need to learn customer service and general manners. We of course will never be eating there again.

Really nice pub, looked after and clean

Lovely cosy and clean restaurant. Recently been extended with a larger outdoor beer garden area with heaters and they now have a fire place in the extended restaurant area. Good value for money, friendly and quick service.

Lovely venue, disabled friendly, good value meals with a drink, table ordering via app or order at the bar. Table service excellent and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

I enjoy going here, the food is good, but tonight was like a youth club. There was a group of young men, most appeared to be under 18, noisy, swearing and vaping inside. I for one was intimidated by them. Not an enjoyable visit at all.

We usually go to Whetherspoons after the cinema . A girlie time. The meals are always good. The service is good. . Great price plus a free drink.with.my meal .

The food was warm but chips were cold not for the first time also we sat up by the window which was a bit chilly, in the past we have returned our food in the past for being cold

Came to the spoons for breakfast ordered food specifically asked for bacon to be crisp burnt came as normally cooked ??? Asked if they could just take bacon away so I could carry on eating and they couldn'tcame back looked like the fat had been ripped off with their fingers not even cut off Not happy food has to be taken away and redone hope the rest of the food is still warm upon return ? And it wasn't Also families Sat here in the lower part with kids while the odd language spoken by the P--S HEADS on the upper tier. Also had to move cups off table to sit down and brush mess off with a menu Honestly couldn't wait to get it down me and get out

Worked here for about half a year. Left the company pretty amicably. Had a falling out with a few workers but not management. Headed in today to eat food with my nan and was told I was banned for no apparent reason and got kicked out. The food is okay not the best but it's also decently cheap. Originally had better hopes for this place but it let me down. Would not recommend eating or working here 😕

Quite a lively place, there were a few gatherings, and the staff were friendly and approachable. All in all, a god night was had by everyone I was with

We sat upstairs and ordered using the app . The food came fast , hot and fresh . Staff seemed nice.

Lovely Chicken Tikka Masala, good value

First impressions was not good, when notices on the door said 'No draught available due to technical issues' and then we had a job to find a table that had been cleared of dishes & glasses. Ordered drinks and food for 4 people on the app. The food was served first after 15-20 minutes. I had the lemon & herb chicken which arrived with overcooked chicken and just 10 chips! No problems however with the other meals. Drinks were delivered 10 minutes later after asking a waiter where they were. No draught, so had to order bottles, but although we asked for glasses, none was delivered. Even after asking a waiter for a glass for my wife, it didn't arrive. During our time there, surrounding tables were left uncleared. This was 15:30 in the afternoon, and not a busy period, so after a previous 5 star rating for The Sirhowy, unfortunately on this occasion it only deserves one star, if that. Some serious regional or national managerial intervention is drastically required to regain the JD Wetherspoon's reputation at this particular venue. Tim Martin can't possibly be proud to have the majority of reviews showing 'terrible'.

Great friendly service prompt and good food but not very warm had big breakfast

Wanted a quick meal in Blackwood so popped into the Sirhowy. No problem getting a table, however, due to staff shortages, there was quite a queue to order food. I had cod and chips, the cod was tasty, nice white fish in a fairly light batter. Not a massive meal but good value for the price. Serving staff were polite and helpful & the surroundings pleasant. Ideal for a reasonably priced meal & drink.

My friend and I had steak which was lovely but the lady who served us forgot to add our garlic bread to the order, I then had to go and order it separately which cost more , in the meantime my food went cold , and when it arrived we’d nearly finished eating, really disappointed with the garlic bread which was wafer thin, wish I’d not bothered now, as I said the steak was really lovely, as was the onion rings, just really disappointed , I know everyone makes mistakes, and I appreciate that it can’t be added to my order as I’d already paid , but my friend and I spend a lot of time and money in Witherspoon in Blackwood. The lady that served us was very apologetic and although this time wasn’t perfect we will be coming back.

Full of people vaping openly, staff ignore it

This Wetherspoons is by far the worst I ever been. We do the orders and after they inform you the the food is finish. Sometimes 45 min waiting for food. Every time I came here there's a problem. Today they only accept cash Unbelievable

Mixed grill was the worst in a JDW. Small portions of meat. No mushroom or tomato and when asked I was served up a single small mushroom and half a tomato. Waiter thought it was funny which cheered me up so I gave him 4 stars. Sadly don't think I will be in a rush to return.

Went in Sunday, as in most wetherspoons now, the staff were ignoring people vaping. Wont be going in their pubs again until they've cracked down on vapers.

The manager, who I am unaware of his name due to him stating he didn’t have to give it when asked, so therefore can only describe him as middle aged and Scottish is an absolute disgrace to call himself a manager, individuals like him do the brand (jd Wetherspoon) no favours at all. His mannerism tonight towards myself was plainly poor, inexperienced and disrespectful. He spoke over myself whilst I was having a conversation with another member of staff of which was more than capable of dealing with my request herself, he raised his voice at me. This not only undermined the young lady I was speaking to but also infuriated me as I wasn’t addressing him. When I asked him not to shout at me he disagreed with me saying he didn’t, we at this point disagreed with each other again which led to me asking his name, when I asked his name he loudly informed me that he wasn’t willing to provide this, and didn’t have to, all in-front of a bar full of people and his staff. Setting a poor example to his staff. Degrading his staff as there was no reason for him to be involved. Embarrassing myself by making a scene. The young lady later apologised to me at my table to which I replied there was nothing for her to apologise for as she did nothing wrong, she was very polite and friendly, a great member of your staff. I am a manager myself of a large company and can only say that this gentleman needs re training, before he does further damage to your company.

This establishment is a typical Wetherspoon's - no more, no less. I'm always quite happy with them. You get a good value meal in pleasant surroundings. I enjoyed my meal of 3 Irish sausages with chips and beans (lovely hot chips), although I heard other people complaining. Personally I found the food reasonably priced and it's one place I can get my favourite beer, Worthington's Creamflow. A half pint meant my total meal cost under £9.

Wetherspoons.. They have better places... Unlimited coffee if machine working.. Rarely Just revisited .and improving ever so slightly

I was very disappointed, Wetherspoons was always good value. Not any more. The food was very poor quality and very small portions for what they charge. The only reedeming feature was the beer. Leffe on draft, very good, but the food is just poor, poor quality.

My first time here, myself and a friend had Sunday breakfast and it was lovely. Definitely be back 👍

It is purely a convenience to eat at a Wetherspoons to be honest. Abergavenny branch is the only one I would go to to eat again. So back to Blackwood branch. Lovely big pub, outside area is good, service was relatively quick after ordering through the app. Good service at the bar although staff seemed stressed. Lots to choose from the menu and reasonably priced to be fair. However lacking chef skills as my chicken strips were slightly overcooked.

Went tonight, had a large mixed grill, wife had Steak. Steak was supposed to be with a Mediterranean salad but came with chips. Stated to waitress that it was supposed to be salad, she came back with there was no salad. 1st we heard. Large mixed grill supposed to have 6 onion rings, came with 3, steak had 4 and didn't expect more than 2with it. They also need to clean up more often, see pics. PS, No butter was used by our party.

I had the worst customer service experience and that’s coming from someone who works in hospitality . I ordered a panini with bacon but it came undercooked and elastic and when we explained the problem to one of the managers ( Chantelle ) she came across quite rude and was acting like like it was my problem and not Weatherpsoons. She was speaking to me like she was from the streets, (completely rude), not sure that what you want from someone you employ… we will never go there again, and that may not seem like an issue, but speaking as someone from the hospitality industry, I know that number quickly builds up and costs the company a lot of money which can make the higher up managers look quite bad. And yet again this is all because of a silly employee . Shame

I've been here plenty of times before but never experienced someone so rude as Shantel the "manager" or so I'm told. This woman came to address an issue with the bacon as it looked like it was cut fresh off the pig. (This was on the 8th of July 2023). When she approached my girlfriend and I, she began to lecture us on how the bacon was pre cooked before arriving to site. I accepted this but still wanted the issue resolved, which was hard enough. She needs a good lesson in manners! Then once I was made to pay the difference on an item that would replace my unedible sandwich, she lectured me again on how I should just deal with it because of how hard it is working in hospitality, boo hoo... here's a lesson "I'm sorry, please and thank you". You can start there. Her attitude was so terrible I asked one of the staff "jokingly" if she has spat in my girlfriend burger, as that was the attitude she gives off. Yet to have received an apology

I had a meeting with a client here, it was my first time visiting. The atmosphere was ok but they need sound deadening on the walls / ceiling. Staff member who served me didn’t know what Earl Grey tea was and thought it was some sort of cocktail.

We have always had good meals here. Great value and fast service.

Lovely meal in the beer garden on a Saturday evening. Fast service, excellent food that was great value for money. Clean surroundings and a friendly atmosphere. Staff super friendly & attentive. Special mention for the manager Joshua who clearly works hard to run the place smoothly and ensured the service we received was high. Will return and would definitely recommend 👍

Ordered steak along with some sides. The steak was absolutely plastered in some obnoxious seasoning! It was a shame because the steak was actually cooked as requested, the baked potato was barely warm and the portion of roasted vegetables barely covered the bottom of the small bowl! We regularly eat in various Wetherspoons this has to be the worst, no one came to ask if our meal was ok which we've always had in other Wetherspoon establishments. Will defintely not return here!

The one meal of chicken and halluomi fries were over cooked and greasy. The chips looked and tasted like yesterday’s chips and the bacon on the one dish was undercooked. When brought to the attention to one of the staff, they dismissed it. Would not recommend and will not be visiting here again! Shocking!!

One of the worst Weatherspoons I've ever visited and I spend a lot of money with Weatherspoons throughout the Country. The recently promoted Shift Leader with bald head, moustache and bad teeth obviously was on a power trip and trying to prove himself! I sat upstairs for approximately 30 minutes when I was abruptly told that the upper seating area was closed even though there was no sign informing customers of this. For sure customer service goes out the window and I can understand on speaking to other Weatherspoons employees who work at other establishments in the South Wales are why Weatherspoons struggled to employ a Pub Manager for Blackwood! If I could award no stars or minus stars for Blackwood then I would definitely do so! For the Gentleman that I mentioned my Father taught me 'Manners maketh man' and your Customer Service Skills definitely need working on if you don't want any further negative reviews.....

I went to The Sirhowy twice as my son was staring in Dreamcoat Stars across the road. The first time my food came out cold, the second time yes the food came at cold and dried out but it really is self serve my rice came out in its plastic bag and you had to clear a table to sit at. The garlic pizza bread was missing the garlic and the poppadum were like rubber. When mentioned to the waitress the reply was oh sorry and walked off. The warmest part of the meal was the ice cream. When the desserts were served they didn’t even bother taking the mains away. Needless to say it was a means to and end. Fortunately the show was fantastic

Popped in for a drink and some food. Mixed grill was awful and was violently sick in the night from the lasagna. Would never eat here again.

Very clean friendly Wetherspoons . Beer top notch would recommend only had drinks but all good. Nice beer garden shady and sunny spots .

Good food great price can't fault at all .

Food was disappointing, ordered an All Day Brunch and it was cold. Eggs were overcooked, cold and dry. We had to send the whole meal back, and looking around the room we were not the only ones. Staff were however very apologetic and understanding. They did send us fresh hot food and it was delicious.

Food and drinks always as expected. Staff lovely, they all work hard, but could do with a few more of them to keep on top of wiping tables.
