Fishermans Rest Inn in Caerphilly

We ordered two meals and a tea and coffee. Only 9 people in there two of which didn’t eat. 45 min wait for corned beef pie and chips and steak burger. The tea and coffee were served in cups without saucers and nowhere to put the tea bag. Food was ok but nothing special. Nicer places about or similar price. Staff nice enough but they need to work on things. The carpet needs cleaning too.

Worth a visit. Tried a Rib Eye steak this time. Was up there with the best. Really tasty, Well cooked (Med/Rare) . Staff very attentive and happy ;) .... The quality and atmosphere has definitly improved 100% lately. Great little pub.

Very disappointed with the service provided, ordered bread and butter which never arrived but they tried to charge for it and tried to charge for 3 drinks when we only had two. If you want to keep trading change your way or the next restaurant in caerphilly to close will be yours

My friend and I visited last week after work for food and drinks. The restaurant was very busy which was nice to see but this resulted in both our food and drinks orders taking longer than usual. This wasn’t a problem for us though. All staff were friendly and food was delicious. It is a little overpriced in my opinion but we both enjoyed.

We've just had a very enjoyable family meal. The landlord and staff provided great service and were very hospitable.

Called in after quite a long time. The Fisherman's rest has always been a good local pub. Tonight the service and food was excellent. I had the fajitas and the wife had the corned beef pie. Both really nice. A reasonable priced bottle of wine, sharing starter and a shared dessert. Came in at around £60.00. Definitly worth giving it a try.

On the whole, the food pub and staff were lovely, however 3 of my party ordered potato and cheese pie,we were very disappointed to receive a bowl of cheesy mash potato with one slice of tomato on the top!! We also ordered fries so basically ended up with a plate of potato with baked beans and 2 slices of bacon..this was definitely not the definition of a pie!! And not clear on the menu.

Just pulled over for a pull over a drink, no food so can't say. A lot went passed us food on trays.

I visit this pub occasionally. The service is OK, to be expected. The general feel of the place is poor. The carpets could do with a really good clean. The toilet areas are the worst I have seen for a long time. The hand drier has thrown enough water onto the radiator beneath to rust the cover. Generally poor.

We booked here for my son's birthday for 19 of us last night and we are so pleased that we did. Everything about the service and food was amazing and we can't thank you enough, everyone said how good their meal was and the staff all worked so hard. Thank you for everything.

Had a delivery through Caerphilly eats food was really poor share box was inedible prawns Iver cooked chicken over cooked wedges under cooked soggy and stuck together garlic mushrooms soggy steak and wings were only thing that was eaten awfull had this befire and it was lovely don't know what happened waste of 30 quid fish and chips was lovely cooked dinner was bland roasties may aswell of been just boiled potatoes. Won't be ordering again

Nice dinner , just needs a good deep clean Had a dinner here on a Sunday it was nice . The place needs a clean , I might have a takeaway next time

I’ve been here so many times over the years. Hadn’t been in a while, always fould it good despite the dirty seats, carpets and the toilets not being great. i called to make a booking on sunday morning hoping they could squeeze us in. They said just turn up as they were quiet. I arrived and my partner got me a drink while I went to find a seat, The table was encrusted with food, it had obviously been there a while with streak marks from the wipe over, and some weird reason blonde hairs stuck to it..not one or two, a clump, I unwrapped my knife and fork to use the napkin to rest on. My partner came over with a can of Coke and a dirty glass that was covered in food and again a weird blond hair!! I then noticed my knife had food on and I thought bugger this I’m off, the can of pop had what looked like mud on the top, I just left. My partner went to the toilet and when he came out he said it was unbelievable, I dread to wonder what the kitchen is like. No wonder the car park was empty 12:1 30 on a Sunday They obviously won’t be going for much longer - which is a shame because it’s a lovey building in a lovey spot. I ended up in the casa Mia, £2 more a meal and it was amazing.

Toilets were disgusting and filthy. Prices have gone up a lot considering the quality As we was a big party we pre ordered to be told on the day they hadn’t had certain meals we had pre ordered. Wasn’t even told until we had arrived. The food came out in drips and drabs & was “warm” By the time I had finished my meal another member of the family only just has theirs.

Shocking. What has happened to this place? Ordered food an hour ago for two people and still no sign when the place is empty. Went to the loo and then didn't bother because the toilets were absolutely stinking. My dog didn't even want to lay on the sticky carpet .... Bank Holiday Monday and the place is abysmal ...... Won't be back! 😩 Update: over an hour later, we requested a refund, which they gave us. We then went to the Church Inn and had a fabulous meal 😋 Highly recommend!

Overall decent experience. We went for a Sunday roast and unfortunately it wasn't anything to rave about, the meat was a bit lack luster, veg was watery and cold, the cauliflower cheese was cold cauliflower submerged in a cheap watery cheese sauce and left us all hungry - not usually the outcome after a Sunday roast! The saving grace was the dessert options. I had the Chocolate Fudge Cake and others tried their various cheesecakes - these were great and a welcome treat after the dinner. The staff were nice and accommodating though not as warm as it was in the past - could've been better. I enjoyed it enough to go again and to try their other food options though!

Bit of a let down. Sunday lunch,by the time veg came main plated food was cold, veg very hard so sent back. Complained but told don't give Ny kind of refund etc. Also the toilets were disgusting dirty walls floors the whole level if hygiene was poor

Waited 1 and half hrs for food when brought it it was absolutely disgusting struggle to eat half of it toilets dirty no toilet roll in them will never go back to this pub the worse one I have ever been too , used to be a nice at one time . If toilets are that bad I dred to think what kitchen like differently need checking by health and safty

Lovely place . Food ok. A bit of a wait even though only about 8 people in there including us. I had the vegan tart and a very small jacket potato. Side dish of fried onions and mushrooms. Partner had the corned beef pie with peas and gravy . He said no to the chips. Originally wanted the chicken korma but sold out. Nice experience. Last went to this place 34 years ago before I became a vegetarian

Me and my wife had out wedding evening doo at the fisherman's rest, the staff went above and beyond to make our evening extra special. The bar staff- incredible bunch of people, so friendly, attentive and made our night extra special The buffet- the food was fantastic, fresh and plentiful, everyone raved about this The atmosphere- absolutely amazing, was decorated and organised perfectly Thank you so much for making our special day absolutely perfect from Laura and Simon Adams 😊

Every ones food was good, fish was lovely except the batter was soggy As of it had been waiting for rest of meals to be ready. There were 4meals 2 were fish. 😪

I've been all around Wales for 2 weeks, and this is the worst place I've been into. We arrived at 1.30 pm and after 2 hours we had our starters, the wrong one by the way. We complained and after 45 minutes we still didn't get anything! Anything! The " pub " ( not a pub ) was dirty, service really awful and we just walked out! I won't recommend it!! Was at this rather nice Inn a few nights ago with a friend for a meal, when the barmaid forgot our food order. No problem, as we all make mistakes. She, nor the manger, could not have been more apologetic and friendly when we pointed this out to them. We were treated to free drinks and had the option of a free desert each. More pubs should take a leaf out of the service offered here. Would definitely go back again.

What an amazing meal on the 12th December, the chef was amazing, well done Jason the food was absolutely stunning you should be very proud will definitely be there again the chef deserves his own restaurant the waitress on duty was very polite and cheerful

We've been there for lunch and evening meals. The food is always excellent and the staff are friendly. Good atmosphere too.

Could not fault waitress.45min wait food hot but dry.Conservatory freezing cold.To me standards have dropped. First time visit since new owners never had a bad meal in past.Hope they can read reviews and have a reset to make a great eating place again.

Distinctly average. OK pub and food if you have nowhere else to go. Whoever cooks has no real idea what great fresh home cooked food is. Obviously just buy in everything pre made.

60th birthday celebration Staff were friendly and really helpful Buffet food was excellent. Great value for money,tasty and plenty to go around. Would reccomend with no hesitation

Booked table for 130 . Two cooked dinners after waiting 1 HR asked when food would arrive we were told another 10mins. Why wasn't I informed on ordering meal there would be a delay of up to 1 hour. Apart from that food was very nice.

It's been awhile since we've been to this pub. Told us a bit of a wait for food,but waited over an hour. The burger I had was really nice.

Ordered 2 meals plus extra bread and butter which never arrived even after i asked them for it.on payment they tried to charge for 3 drinks when we only had two and the bread and butter. Been here a few times over the last couple of months and it seems like they've gone down hill and they don't care .(never reply back on reviews)

Great fresh food at great value delivery time really great service with a smile you won't be disappointed they also do loaded tiger rolls, ice cream great for you to take on your walk and if you walk past and your dog is thirsty they have put out water bowls,great atmosphere plenty of parking, plenty of choice to eat with very reasonable prices, children are welcome as there is stuff for them to play on and its wheelchair friendly too, if you have any dietary or allergies just let them know and they will assist and you menu's highly recommended this place

Took my boys here the other day, I had the fish, which was lovely, but the chips were just warm, and my boys had ribs. As you can imagine, eating ribs gets messy, so I asked a staff member for some napkins, and they said they don't do them, shocked as I've never been to a restaurant that doesn't have napkins, it's a must when serving food surly. The staff were nice and friendly, and prices was OK.

A pleasant little public house set just off from bedwas Town centre with great food and ale and a warm atmosphere friendly staff and great service and reasonable prices ,well worth a visit 😎💙👍

Food has gone down hill and prices gone up, used to love eating here but last 2 meals have been very bad. Ordered a tuna jacket for lunch £9! Expensive for what it is but thought it would be a good size and large salad, nope small and burnt bottom jacket and small salad. Then again ordered a Cajan chicken baguette for lunch this weekend and was actually chicken covered in thick mayonnaise sauce with Cajun flavour sprinkled on top!! I’m not a fussy food person but it was disgusting! That’s not Cajun chicken! Real shame to be honest as friends who used to eat here have said the same thing.

Just called in for food and were totally ignored by the barperson. He was serving but we got no greeting or apology for delay. We walked out.

Food is good. Unfortunately, too many tables are making movement difficult. Also, no disabled parking saw some older people having difficulty moving from carpark to pub

We had two vegetable curries. There were onions, mushrooms, tomatoes, perhaps a few strands of pepper. Sadly, the whole dish was smothered with curry sauce. The sauce, however, was absolutely smothered in salt. This was overpowering and almost certainly detrimental to health. We left most of the dish. All in all very disappointing. We have been here before. The change in management has not been good.

Two weeks ago had a lovely meal, today, chicken curry was burnt and dry. The response from (James I think his name was) aww, was it? I'll let them know 🙄🙄🤔. When you pay £10.50 you expect a decent meal

It was so good. The brilliant place to have food and nice drinks. Starters were soo delicious and the garlic cheezy bread was the best one I ever had. Mains are also really lovely . We were so full at the end but I won't give up chocolate fudge cake with cream. As I hoped it was also amazing. Thank you for the nice service . Will be back soon for a lovely moment .

Had a roast lunch delivered on Sunday 12th February 2023. Dont know if they have changed the Chef as this meal for 3 people was awful. Beef like a doorstop and like leather so we could not eat it. The veg was not cooked properly and gravy like water. Was so disappointed as we have had meals previously delivered and they were delicious It has put us off ordering anymore.

Was recommended by a friend so we gave it a go. So glad we did. What a lovely place. Food was delicious. Warm welcoming place. The staff very nice, especially Racheal, what a lovely bubbly young lady a credit to your pub/restaurant . Will definitely come back. I would highly recommend. Probably the best in Caerphilly.

Food was lovely especially the parsnip soup although took a while but it was a very busy night there. Visited again last week 15th Jan 23 for Sunday lunch, very nice meal and meat was beautiful, plates could have been hot though as dinner generally cooled quick.

Excellent service and the food 10 out of 10 will definitely be going back.

Our group waited over an hour and a half for our meals as we watched everyone else get served. The whole evening was spoiled even further by a very loud group shouting at each other at the other end of the pub. To be fair the food was not at all bad - when it eventually arrived after we had made a number of complaints. Can't see me visiting again.

We pre booked breakfast with Santa as advertised on their Facebook page. Where do we begin. After arriving 9:45am, breakfast was booked at 10am, whilst parking someone assuming “the chef” put his hands up informing us to give them 10 minutes, which we did especially as our booking wasn’t until 10. As we walked in we seen a couple sat on the tables drinking hot drinks which confused us & the check suggested they hadn’t yet opened when we arrived . We ordered hot drinks first, then after about 5 minutes as we was still deciding we ordered breakfast. It took 45 minutes for our coffees to be brought to us even going up twice asking where they were. Our food arrived in dribs and drabs. Pancakes come first which was my youngest daughters meal - which was cold & you could tell they were store bought and not made in house. All adults breakfasts came (they were okay, nothing special), we all finished & still my eldest daughters meal hadn’t come to our table & the waitresses went off to serve other meals from the kitchen to the other tables (we assumed they would come back to us) I then asked where my daughters breakfast was to be told “oh what was it you had ordered again” It clearly hadn’t been made as waited a further 15 minutes for her food. As soon as Santa come out, we left as that’s all we was there for. I would not recommend nor sadly would I return for the breakfast with Santa & for a family meal. Service was terrible considering there was only 4 other families in there with us.

My lunch today was lovely, but both my friends chicken & gammon were sooo overcooned, they cudnt eat them, but they wudnt, complain.

The food was great. Service could have been a bit quicker. However 2hrs of screaming 10 to 12 old kids was more than enough. We could not even have a conversation. We could not hear each other whilst sat side by side. To top it of the table with the screaming kids ( not toddlers) turned out to be the owner. Very poor display of respect for your customers. They should have closed the section we were in for a private party.

No draugh beer, only ice cold gassy worthy or Atlantic ale. There is no cheer in a pub with no beer. Won’t see me again

Ordered via the app whilst we were there, after almost an hour we enquired as to why we'd had nothing and the app was down. Watched other people come in and be served food but we were left twiddling or thumbs. Got a refund and left

We phoned early Sunday morning to see if they could squeeze us in last muinit for Sunday dinner. It was no problem at all. Alot buisyer than we expected but all the staff were Lovely and friendly. Brilliant atmosphere. Both the kids really enjoyed the food (and especially the play area) The Food was beautifull and excellent value for money. We will definitely be back!!!!

Disappointing lunchtime experience. Arrived around 12.00 for a 12.15 booking for 4 people and a toddler. Only 2 other people in pub at that point. A party of 10 then arrived and their order was taken before ours and we had to go to bar to ask. At the point of ordering about 12.40 we asked about time as the toddler would get restless. We were told ours would go through before the larger order. That was not the case and we had to ask again how long. Whilst we were enquiring the manager just walked off. We had to wait another 25/30 minutes before a young waitress brought the food. The order for the toddler was wrong and the overall quality of the food was average . A very disappointing experience for my birthday and not a cheap one with the bill coming to nearly £70 with no alcoholic drinks included. Can’t see us returning unfortunately which is a shame as we live locally.

Great Sunday lunch for 6 but experience spoilt by service that was so slow and chaotic. The main roast of meat and vegetables was very tasty and well cooked at a reasonable price - good quality and quantity. But service took overly long even allowing that it was very busy. On the other hand, the dessert was poor quality and just not worth the price. Furthermore not only was delivery unacceptably slow for the desserts but arrived for the 6 guests in staggered stages - so that we ate separately in sequence, with the accompanying amount of custard served reducing with each delivery and served by a variety of staff who did not seem coordinated or well managed. To book a table for lunch starting at one o clock and not finish the meal till long after 4:30 is just not acceptable, even if all the food had been top notch, which for us regrettably was not. Disappointing.

Ordered meals for 3 adults starters and mains. After 40 minutes a waiter advised that the mussels I ordered as a starter wasn't available. Asked why it took them so long to let us know not much of a response. Asked for our money back and left. People left waiting over an hour for food in a pub that was half empty. Wouldn't rush back.

Dog friendly pub. After a lovely walk the dogs had sausages and water, so great place to stop by for refreshments for them, as well as us.
