Messaged first to make sure we could bring the dog. We were staying locally so we’re on a walk. We arrived a little early so just sat outside till opening. Plenty of choice on drink and food! Popular with locals and the staff were friendly enough. We had a selection of tapas it was very good. Wouldn’t hesitate to come back if in the area again. Use it or lose it! Would also recommend.

We have used this pub a few times over the years but the food has gone downhill sadly. Still great service from the bar staff but the Burito I had was ok and edible but really bland and think they had forgot to put the chicken in One of out party had lasagne that was burnt at the bottom and round the sides so she did not eat it. Everything else was ok but just did not have much seasoning to it and sadly was mediocre.

Sunday lunch for first time, eaten outside although plenty of room inside too.. Friendly and efficient staff and very tasty roast beef lunch served with a Yorkie and good variety of veggies, red cabbage, cauliflower cheese, long stem broccoli, roasted parsnips carrots and potatoes. Managed a tiramisu desert and a crumble and custard between us as well which were both lovely. Not the cheapest lunch (is anywhere nowadays) but very enjoyable, will return 😍

Although we have known about The Shoulder of Mutton for many years, we have never taken that step to visit before as it is sort of "out of our way" for us. Well, we finally did go and we will definitely be back! The food was superb and the service excellent! The specials board looked so tempting. I went for one of my favourite starters, whitebait, and then enjoyed the calves liver. The short redhead tucked into the prawn & crayfish salad followed by the seafood platter. The whitebait was possibly the best I have ever tasted and both mains were delicious! Add a bottle of excellent Rioja and the afternoon was just perfect! Well done to all the staff! Your professionalism makes the Shoulder a very special place indeed!

We visited the Shoulder of Mutton while staying with friends who have recently moved to the area. On entering the bar, I was immediately taken with the relaxed, unpretentious and friendly atmosphere. Unlike many pubs these days, there was no agonising wait for drinks as there were plenty of well trained, eager and friendly bar staff. Not that cooperate friendliness where the smile doesn’t quite reach the eyes but genuinely good natured with chat and laughter. All the staff were like this; going out of their way to share a joke and make you feel that service was a pleasure rather than a tedious part of the job. One example of this excellent service was provided by Claire who waited on our table. We were the worst of customers- asking for a cheese board that wasn’t on the menu. There was a slight pause as Claire considered her options, a brief conflab in the kitchen before we were given the green light. Who knows where this was conjured from, but it was substantial to say the least and absolutely delicious. This was all the more impressive as we had recently eaten at Marco Pierre White’s Rudloe Hotel near Bath and the cheese board there was singular-offering one miserly piece of stilton with half a slice of sour dough bread. I have jumped ahead to the dessert when all the food deserves a round of applause. The venison was cooked to perfection by the chef and all the dishes were devoured with great appreciation. Mr White’s staff would certainly benefit from an educational excursion to this establishment. My enjoyment was only marred by one thing. The unexpected pub singer. What he lacked in talent he more than made up for in volume. Enough said.

We are staying in the area for a few days and decided to eat here. Glad we did. Excellent regular menu and extensive specials board. Our food was delicious. Clearly homemade, fresh and flavoursome and served piping hot. Mains were excellent value at just under £10 a head. Service was friendly and quick despite it being reasonably busy. Local Woodforde guest pale ale went down a treat. A good find and we would certainly visit again when in the area

We went along last night, Saturday evening, for a meal and really didn't know what to expect. We'd eaten several times under previous ownership but not since it reopened so were a little wary. No need though, the new main menu was quite mainstream with some more imaginative specials on the board. I can highly recommend the prawn, crayfish and avocado cocktail, delicious! Hubby had the very retro pear, walnut and goats cheese salad and daughter had deep fried brie which were both eagerly devoured. Steak main was huge and not for the fainthearted but the handcut chips were so good so I'm not sure what a previous reviewer had a problem with. One thing I will say though, bear in mind all food is cooked fresh to order so expect to wait a little longer at busy times. Dessert was great too! The staff were all very friendly and helpful and the beer and cider were all well kept. All in all we will definitely be back, and soon!

Ordered 3 meals 2 with chips. The chips were the worst I have ever seen reallt dark and greasy. Other people seemed to be getting chips that looked like they should do. My wifes steak was supposed to be medium rare, it was very thin and only the slightest hint of red in the middle. Mentioned the chips to the barman, he cut one in half and went off but never returned. Such a shame as the pub had a nice atmosphere.

Friendly with good food at very reasonable prices. Chips particularly were flipping lovely - like the ones you used to get in family run chip shops 40 years ago. Yum scrum!

we went with our two border collies and were made most welcome. the fish pie, haddock and chips and scotch egg dish were all very good and drinks were fine. the new landlord is making a good effort to get things going after the shutdown and we wish him well. prices were fair and it was well attended for a tuesday night. we moved indoors as the wasps were wanting to share the table with us and that was no problem. in the area it matches the cantley cock and beats the reedham pubs.

I last used this pub just over a year ago. What a change. Before it was dirty and the beer was disgusting. The new management has turned it around. The beer is excellent and the bar is clean. The outside area has been smartened up. I look forward to going back and sampling their menu.

Great to see the place thriving once more - and freshly decorated with friendly service and a good range of well-kept beers. Shame about the recent food hygiene rating though so I hope this can be put right quickly.

Lunch for six at the Shoulder of Mutton today was excellent. Choices made were pie of the day, fish and chips ( small and large portions available), coq au vin, crab thermidor, followed by various desserts. Friendly service and a good range of ale.

Tonight we gave been to this beautiful dog friendly pub in Strumshaw. The main kitchen opens shortly but Maz Linford has cooked BBQ- meat and halo mi & Mauritian cajack, sausage rougaille and vegetable curry, then sweet doughnuts for dessert. We played pool, bar billuards, drank from a good selection of beers and had a great time. This was such a treat!

Now open again and under the skilled management of Bob Cameron who many will know from the Coach and Horses on Thorpe Road in Norwich. Early days (only just over a week in) but Bob knows his stuff and is turning the place around already. It's good news all round that the pub has been saved from becoming an 'ex-pub'. Nice pint of Ghost Ship too!
